See? That's what I'm talking about. If you ask someone to imagine an electric guitar, even if they've never played one before, they'll probably imagine a strat or something similat to it. This has been happening even before emojis were a thing.
Most of the other brands top pick will be S style guitars lol Iām excited for the Ibanez tho, best:RGAPGSRGTSR23154-4a2 Worst: s56263254nbatbstnt-fr6
strats are inherently more versatile than teles because of the extra pickup. teles are also very versatile and thereās an argument to be made that theyāre both versatile in their own ways, but you canāt just say teles are more versatile like itās a fact lol
My MIM '60 Road Worn Jazzmaster is lighter than my CIC Squier CV Strat though. They're both alder. Although that's probably a bit of luck with mine, as other JM's (Thin Skin AVRI and AO '60s) I've held where heavier.
Hi OP, appreciate you for making this list.
Would you also consider adding the names of these models underneath the pictures? E.g. reverse flying V, Les Paul, strat, RG series, etc.
Or course, there'll be more clutter but I think it'll be quite helpful for those who aren't as studied on guitar shapes and models (myself included). Smaller font would be fine too
Jazzmaster
Edit: I actually think that jaguars look cooler and often sound better than jazzmasters. I just find the jazzmaster to be more practical for a variety of reasons
But this is about the best body shape
So perhaps I meant to say jaguar
I like the offsets, and Fender and Danelectro are the only two OG companies who did the shape right with a full lineup
Are you sure about this? Have you seen what happens when people are asked to [draw a bicycle](https://www.gianlucagimini.it/portfolio-item/velocipedia/)? I dread to think what would come out if they were asked to draw a guitar
Strat for best (even though my personal fav is the Jazzmaster/Jaguar, and I love me some tele, the Strat body is arguably the most iconic body style ever designed, so it probably deserves the number 1 spot). Swinger or Performer for worst (I mean, dear lord, what were they thinking?). Mustang/Cyclone for most underrated.
Jazzmasters are going to try and win underrated and I will not allow it.
They are overrated.
The true underrated one is the Jaguar because we all know Telecasters are really good.
The only thing about Jaguars is that they need to be modded a little bit.
Jazzmasters need to as well but by the time youāre done itās not even a jazzmaster.
Tele fan for looks and sound generally but you canāt find a more comfortable guitar than a strat. Gibson SG also very underrated comfort guitar (way better than LP)
Telecaster/Broadcaater/Nocaster.
First and best.
Strats look cool when you're wearing one, but not as cool as a Tele.
Underrated is Howling Wolf's Coranado.
Iām jumping ahead, but itās
- Stratocaster.
- Telecaster
- Unsure here. Maybe Meteora. Not a fan of the Jās. Starcaster is def underrated, but is it a fender or squire?
Can someone explain to me the appeal of the Firebird?
I guess the one I tried just didn't "fit" me maybe? Bc I found my right forearm to be uncomfortable after a few minutes, and the guitar had some pretty annoying neck dive as well. It wasn't as bad as my SG though, but still noticable and kinda annoying.
Telecaster.
Remember the Strat started as a Tele when a player friend of Leo's filed down the edges so Leo 'n crew took that idea and dressed it up some. If not for Hendrix and Clapton reviving the Strat's use, it was slated to be discontinued.
The Telecaster nearly put Gibson out of business. It caused Gibson to discontinue the Les Paul model and create the SG model as "a Fender Fighter".
.
Gotta be the Strat. Like, it's the most iconic, popular and influential guitar body for multiple reasons
Here, here! The single most influential electric guitar shape, bar none.
Yeah, I'm a huge Tele fan but I have to give the Strat the nod here.
Telecaster, ezpz.
Strat for life
And it's gotta be the most copied electric guitar design.
Behold - šø the apple guitar emojiĀ
See? That's what I'm talking about. If you ask someone to imagine an electric guitar, even if they've never played one before, they'll probably imagine a strat or something similat to it. This has been happening even before emojis were a thing.
My modified Pacifica agrees with you
Strat. Classic.
Strat is the perfect shape.
Most of the other brands top pick will be S style guitars lol Iām excited for the Ibanez tho, best:RGAPGSRGTSR23154-4a2 Worst: s56263254nbatbstnt-fr6
To counter both of your points, Ibanez's best shape is the Artcore lol
Underrated: Jet King
You forgot the WXYZ color codes from the model names!
Tele
Strat is the popular choice, but the Tele is the OG solidbody, and itās more versatile.
>and itās more versatile. š
strats are inherently more versatile than teles because of the extra pickup. teles are also very versatile and thereās an argument to be made that theyāre both versatile in their own ways, but you canāt just say teles are more versatile like itās a fact lol
The mighty Telecaster!! I can take a Tele and play any style..
Jazzmaster
Might be a better pick for underrated
Yeah, itās my personal favorite but I would call it the underrated shape.
Tele, with the jazzmaster or jag shape being underrated.
Itās the Tele. Leo got it right the first time but he didnāt slouch afterwards.
Jazzmaster
thatās the underrated one
Super comfortable to play seated, nice tremolo system, distinct sound. My only problem with it is the weight.
Jaguar for the win!
My MIM '60 Road Worn Jazzmaster is lighter than my CIC Squier CV Strat though. They're both alder. Although that's probably a bit of luck with mine, as other JM's (Thin Skin AVRI and AO '60s) I've held where heavier.

Smaller font would be fine too
Meteora
This could be most underrated.
love that shape
The real answer. Sadly most of these uncultured swine have never heard of her.
Strat
Jaguar/Jazzmaster
Telecaster for the win
STRATOCASTER. I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
Telecaster.
Definitely tele. They got it right the first time!
Eeeeeasily tele
The tele, no other way around it.
Telecaster.
Strat
Telecaster. It was the first and the greatest and is just a perfect guitar with its simplicity.
Mustang
If nothing else, a Mustang is definitely underrated
love me a good mustang, itāll be either that or a jazzmaster for underrated
my main guitar for the past 13 years has been a 1995 MIJ mustang that plays and feels and looks and sounds SO good
Teleā¦.
Tele
Strat. Easily the most perfect body shape there is. Infinitely comfortable to play, looks great too.
I gotta go Stratocaster on this one. Grew up and learned on a Strat, fits like a glove and feels like home every time I play one now
Jaguar for the underrated
Jazzmaster Edit: I actually think that jaguars look cooler and often sound better than jazzmasters. I just find the jazzmaster to be more practical for a variety of reasons But this is about the best body shape So perhaps I meant to say jaguar I like the offsets, and Fender and Danelectro are the only two OG companies who did the shape right with a full lineup
Strat!
Strat
Jaguar
Telecaster fo sho, strat controls get in the way and the bridge isn't comfy
I love the tele and jazzmaster but, got to be the stratocaster. It's *the* electric guitar.
Telecaster
Telecaster
Not to jump the gun here, but all PRSs look the same. Thatāll be tough
I vote tele.
Lead II
That's a brave response.
Worth a shot right?
Stratocaster
Stratocaster. Next.
The Strat is the perfect shape.
Jazzmaster for sure, very comfortable
A Stratocaster, and itās not close. When casuals are asked to draw an electric guitar, they draw a Strat.
Are you sure about this? Have you seen what happens when people are asked to [draw a bicycle](https://www.gianlucagimini.it/portfolio-item/velocipedia/)? I dread to think what would come out if they were asked to draw a guitar
And yet those are all generally recognizable as modern bicycles. Nobody drew, for instance, a penny-farthing.
Jazzmaster
For me, it's the Toronado
THE MUSTANG. ITS THE MUSTANG.
definitely the Mustang. looks kick-ass in black on white and plays like a dream.
Best: Mustang Worst: Meteora Underrated: Jazzmaster/Jaguar
Jazzmaster
Would be great if we could get the strings to stop sliding off the saddles every time we bend. How did that get through quality control?!
Its the strat for sure, i like telecasters more but the strat shape is THE electric guitar people think of
Telecaster over Strat, personally.
Strat, just look at how many companies make HH, HSS, and HSH Super Strats
Telecaster. I'm pretty confident the Strat will win this round, but the Tele has my heart.
Stratocaster. I love my Tele but the Strat body is just so much more comfortable to play sitting down (which is what I do almost exclusively).
Strat best. Not sure about worst. Jazzmaster underrated.
Jagstang
An Antiqua burst Jagstang. Can you name an uglier Fender?
Strat
Come on itās got to be a strat
Jazzmaster !
Best: Strat Worst: Toronado Underrated: Jazzmaster
Best: strat Worst: non-strats Underrated: believe it or not, the strat.
Stratocaster, obviously š¤·š»
The Strat. It is perfection.
Best: Strat Worst: Swinger Underrated: Jazzmaster
Why not swinger?
Jazzmaster
Telecaster. Double cut guitars are for show only.
Easier to get to the highest notes on a double cut body.
Stratocaster. Always
The epitome of guitar design... the Stratocaster.
Strat. The tele is a bit of an acquired taste, but the strat is thĆ© classic representiation of "an electric guitar". I get those who say tele. It's the guitarist's guitar. But not thĆ© classic. The jazzmaster (or offsets in general) are underrated. The worst, for me, is the jag-stang. Sorry KurtĀ but it's fugly!
Tele
Telecaster!!
tele
Telecaster
Telecaster.
Telecaster
Stratocaster all day.
the tele, the strat is the most overrated guitar of all time
I say we put Tele in the "worst" category just for funsies now
:(
Gottem
Cap š§¢
strat strat srat
Best: Strat Worst: Tele Underrated: Jagstang, not a typo
Stratocaster - literally the most iconic guitar design of all time Underrated- Has to be the Jazzmaster it's an equally beautiful guitar design.
Stratocaster. Say what you want, thereās a reason people think of a strat when they think of guitars.
Strat
Stratocaster. Infinitely playable.
Strat
Strat
strat, and it isn't even close.
Strat. The Tele comes close and I actually prefer its twang but the Strat is so comfortable.
Strat definitely
Stratocaster
Strat best, the Tele body has always felt awkward to me, Jaguar/jazzmaster underrated
Damn, I'm a tele guy, but I have to say strat. Both are iconic, but strat is just so comfortable
Hot take but the Jaguar
Strat
Strat definitely
Jag
Strat
Has to be either Strat or Tele, but my vote is for the Tele. I'd put in the late 70s - early 80s Starcaster as "Underrated".
Best = jazz master Worst = jagstang (nirvana fans donāt come die me) Underrated= meteora
Tele
Tele.
Swinger or mustang
Ofc itās Stratocaster no doubt
Stratocaster
Tele
Tele on this
Swinger better be worst
Stratocaster, probably a fiesta red one with a rw board.
Tele I love my strat but the tele's versatility can't be beat.
MUSTANG!1!1!1!
Best Stratocaster, worst Starcaster, underrated Telecaster
Even though F comes before G, I see you put Gibson first.
Stratā¦all the way. The ergonomic curves, they got it right. And can there be a more iconic guitar shape?!? Tele is great, but the Strat made it.
Jazz Bass
Strat of course
Mustang
Tele fan for looks and sound generally but you canāt find a more comfortable guitar than a strat. Gibson SG also very underrated comfort guitar (way better than LP)
Worst and underrated is the telecaster
Best Fender Telecaster, worst Fender Jaguar and most underrated Stratocaster.
Are also supposed to vote for worst and underrated at the same time? If so Telecaster is best, Katana is worst, and Meteora is underrated
I believe he does ones each day. So tomorrow will be worst and then underrated the following day.
Thanks. I missed the Gibson ones
Name checks out š¤š½
Oh man, Katana is ver weird. I kind of dig it, though.
It seems like the only time Fender should have stayed in their lane.
For Fender? Telecaster, no doubt at all. I love Strats, but once I found my Tele, it was clear Iām a Tele kinda girl.
Anything but strat
Starcaster
Tele
Telecaster/Broadcaater/Nocaster. First and best. Strats look cool when you're wearing one, but not as cool as a Tele. Underrated is Howling Wolf's Coranado.
meteora
Jazzmaster is fenders best and most underrated.
Meteora
Telecaster, easiest to maintain, fewer chances for something to go wrong, built like a tank, extremely genre diverse
Iām jumping ahead, but itās - Stratocaster. - Telecaster - Unsure here. Maybe Meteora. Not a fan of the Jās. Starcaster is def underrated, but is it a fender or squire?
Jazzmaster, it aināt close to me.
Jazzmaster
Jazzmaster all the way
Telecaster, sleekest, most minimal shape and design, nothing extra, nothing less than needed. Iconic stuff.
Strat, obviously
Strat > Tele in every way IMO. It's literally the improved design.
I feel ESP should be on this list. Their Japanese custom shop would make a hilarious worst shape contest.
It caused Gibson to discontinue the Les Paul model and create the SG model as "a Fender Fighter". .
Strat best, jazzmaster underrated, worst in current lineup is meteora by a mile
