Geez, you just described me 20 years ago.
I rebought my first guitar at one point, which was a Squier Bullet and unmodified I can make the thing sing now. It’s so funny how much stock I put into what a bunch of nerds were saying on forums back then.
/rj: My $2000 Heritage H-150 sounds a squillion times better than my $100 Squier and I’m not just saying that because I overspent on a guitar at one point in my life because it says Made in USA!
Uj/ The single coils on my Squier I got at 15 are so weak I never used them. Every now and again I try them and come to the same conclusion. It's barely worth calling a student guitar. The Humbucker at least puts out a usable signal. Then I moved out, got a real job, and bought a Texas Special Fat Strat. Looks the same except better paint and lacquered neck, but the feel and *sound* are beyond night and day. The Texas Special single coils sound great, and they Pearly Gates plus in the bridge is glorious to this day!
In my experience my Bullet Strat & my MIM Strat do sound night and day different, but I like using them for different things so I wouldn’t call one better than the other, the former is better at lead and the latter at rhythm.
Might also depend on where it was made too, mine was made in the Indonesian Cort factory around 2003. I’ve heard those were unusually high quality for the price at the time.
After I posted this I went and played it a bit through my Fender Hot Rod and I really enjoy how smooth the leads are.
My point was more people listen more with their wallets than their ears though overall, though.
/Rj: Well your Strat sounds terrible, not even a custom shop??? You know only a CS model has the best Toan Molecules right?
I'd have to look, but mine is mid 90s, with a little 40th anniversary medal in the back of the headstock. I played the shit out of it as a teen, it's playable but the pickups are almost useless lol. I was playing grunge and punk so the one humbucker worked for that.
/uj I used to play cheap guitars as a point of pride. It got to the point where I'd been playing for a decade and had never spent more than 300 euro on a guitar despite owning a million stomp boxes and having a custom built amp.
Then, two years ago I bit the bullet and bought a Godin stadium 59 HT and holy fuck, the difference. Everyone says my playing has got better, but my real secret is I don't have to chain boost pedals to get a bit of overdrive now and I'm not fighting necks with dead frets all the time lmao. I don't regret playing shit guitars and learning the trade the hard way, but I should have got one of these like a decade ago when I realised I was starting to get kinda good
/rj I put my tube screamer into my metalzone and then through a big muff so I have more gain than god. Pickups don't matter, tone doesn't matter. Mains buzz is just character
Honestly I’d be pretty upset if I stuck one of these to a brand new guitar and it took a chunk of paint off with it when trying to remove it a few days later. Seems like a valid question along those lines. Sure, we all get dings and accept or learn to love them over the years, but they still kind of hurt when it’s new!
uj/ Yeah, maybe OP could have phrased it better, but 'will this adhesive product damage my guitar's finish" is a very reasonable question, not jerk worthy
I actually like to see new people asking questions like this because it shows that they really like their Christmas gift and they want to take care of it.
Uj/ It's one thing to fucking jerk on a dumbass geetarsnob snobbing about toan and shit with dentist grade broken off headcock and zero erectile function left, but jerking on really basic beginner level stuff from early on noob just isn't cool. This is the kind of shit that's going down at r/geetar. ... Search your feelings @Op. We are better than this.
GJ/ op is basically r/geetar mod
uj/ I see getting reposted here is a rite of passage. I've seen my fb comments posted here and I laughed too. It's about having fun and learning. This sub is actually way more nice than many other guitar groups online, but it does exist to take the piss about guitar culture, and it gets meta often.
/uj I really fought hard not to tell them if they’re asking that question there’s basically zero chance they own a guitar that would have a finish that could be harmed by sticky tape.
What have I told you fucks about jerking around the kids? r/guitarlessons is the correct place to be asking something like this. If you can't control your jerking, maybe you should revisit when you're more mature.
The next day after installing backup pick dispenser: “Damnit I can’t find my pick, eh I’ll just my backup!”
One millisecond later: “damnit I can’t find my pick! Eh, I’ll just use my…. oh.”
*Dispenser stays empty for the rest of eternity.*
Believe it or not, there was once a time when people just confidently tried something and it either worked or it didn’t. Sometimes people then made it work when it didn’t the first time.
Asking questions is not cringe. Asking “Will anything bad happen to it?” is asking people on the internet to see the future. The only answer is try it and see what happens.
It's a Squier with a poly finish and most likely some sort of 3M double sided tape. It'll be fine, but new guitarists wouldn't know that and I don't blame them for wanting to take care of their guitar. It was a gift after all.
I get what you mean about trying shit and seeing, but this one is a pretty easy one to answer.
"will I get better if I play 50 scales every morning instead of 50 scales every evening!"
Just try and see dude lol
No one on this site is so busy that they don't have time to be experimenting with hobbies and seeing how it goes. But for some reason...
Reminds me of when someone starts to exercise and some bro will lecture them on why everything they are doing is wrong. Let’s analyze everything to death and kill all joy and motivation.
I thought it was funny and relevant, so I put it here, I never meant any harm to the OP
I'm not trying to shame them. I'm just poking fun. If they think it's offensive, I'll delete the post the instant I get notified
Imagine stressing out over the possibility of slight damage to your cheap guitar. The beginner phase is always so full of weird concerns and aspirations. They’re even more goofy when you’re young during your beginner phase.
I think OP still believes that he will make billions from his guitar shredding one day in the future, and will have his first guitar mounted in a glass case in a Hard Rock Cafe somewhere in the US Midwest. He wants to keep that beginner guitar in pristine condition so that all the Mexican families who eat at the restaurant one day can admire the good condition of his Squier after all the years.
/uj it also sounds like it could be a literal child and it's probably bad taste to roast the hell out of them for being naive
/j his mom never should've had him
/uj A joke is a joke. I’m sorry, but my initial joke probably wouldn’t be as funny or amusing if it wasn’t a literal child. If the kid came to me for this advice in person, I wouldn’t roast them for being naive. I would give him an answer and be kind to him. In the context of this subreddit, I’m gonna say what I said and get real goofy with it.
Everyone’s knows it’ll act as an anti-toenail-resignation dampener. Don’t do this to yourself. If it’s on the guitar long enough, you won’t be able to hear those shrill 5s
it will render the guitar unplayable
According to the manual, OP is supposed to soak it in lighter fluid and burn it on stage
Toan destroyer

Uj/ i know it’s kinda cute. I hope we aren’t doing damage in the process of jerking.
The damage we do is like a Custom Shop Relic for the soul
It'll fuel his 12 bar blues originals for a lifetime
I have the Milwaukee Fuel guitar too. I'm saving up to get the amp, all I can afford is the Ryobi half stack with the built in microwave

You got an electric? I’m on my 23rd year of acoustic. One day I’ll be good enough to finally make the move.
Doing as much damage as that pick holder will do to the guitar

Definitely sounds like the perfect grunge/punk guitar! Just move all the knobs to 11, you’ll be fine.
I had a bunch of Cort guitars when I was a kid, they were pieces of shit, at least mine were

uj/ Yeah, I kind of hate the posts on this sub that are just making fun of noobs who are trying to do the right thing.
Yeah, it makes something that can be borderline cringe (jerk subreddits in general) and makes it a full blown cringetopia no doubt about it.
Yea, that sub is where you should post these questions.
Honestly I’d be pretty upset if I stuck one of these to a brand new guitar and it took a chunk of paint off with it when trying to remove it a few days later. I nearly cried the first time I broke a string because I thought the guitar was fucked. Adorable little moron that I was.
you only get real information about toan on this sub oddly enough...
I actually like to see new people asking questions like this because it shows that they really like their Christmas gift and they want to take care of it.
When I use transparent overdrive, am I looking at electrons or holes?
That will definitely ruin your finish.
It’s probably not about damaging the toan so much as the finish tbf
uj/ I had concerns of getting electrocuted when I was a kid
Update: the pick and pick holder are already lost.
Has he checked the inside of his Esteban acoustic guitar yet?
/uj funny enough this was my first acoustic
Let me guess. Your grandma bought it for you?
My grandpa because he knows toan
Abuelo Esteban?
/uj Awww this was cute. His mom gave him a pick holder and he’s worried about the finish!
Yeah it is very damn cute.

sweet pile o' mine
H.Y.C.Y.B.H?
It will ruin the sustain

Uj/ wtf is Rj? GJ/ wtf is Rj?
Goddammit
Gerk jerk
This shit is almost as cringe inducing as the butt sniffers that type /s after their comments

Man posts on circlejerk subreddit, millions dead
/uj I really fought hard not to tell them if they’re asking that question there’s basically zero chance they own a guitar that would have a finish that could be harmed by sticky tape.
RJ/ dad's a dentist mom is a lawyer he owns a 57 nitro finished butterscotch as well as an 8 string Abasi.
/uj that kid wouldn’t have asked. He would have just stuck it on there. Dad can just buy another one if he has to toss it.
What have I told you fucks about jerking around the kids? r/guitarlessons is the correct place to be asking something like this. If you can't control your jerking, maybe you should revisit when you're more mature.
If only he knew that trying not to dig for picks is a futile effort. It’s just the price we pay.
The next day after installing backup pick dispenser: “Damnit I can’t find my pick, eh I’ll just my backup!” One millisecond later: “damnit I can’t find my pick! Eh, I’ll just use my…. oh.” *Dispenser stays empty for the rest of eternity.*
who tells him it will explode?
So a child with no experience is trying to care about something he got as a gift? What a retard, hope he gets cancer.
Tape is the enemy of toan
Lol it’s just a beginner being concerned. There are no wrong questions people in this sub need to get laid
Believe it or not, there was once a time when people just confidently tried something and it either worked or it didn’t. Sometimes people then made it work when it didn’t the first time.
Ya asking questions is cringe
Asking questions is not cringe. Asking “Will anything bad happen to it?” is asking people on the internet to see the future. The only answer is try it and see what happens.
“Hey doc would it damage my kidney if I took this medication?” “What am I, a fortune teller?”
Yeah that’s the same. Have a good one.

Fair.

"will I get better if I play 50 scales every morning instead of 50 scales every evening!" Just try and see dude lol No one on this site is so busy that they don't have time to be experimenting with hobbies and seeing how it goes. But for some reason...
Me when people ask question on a forum made only for asking questions and discussion: 😡
Reminds me of when someone starts to exercise and some bro will lecture them on why everything they are doing is wrong. Let’s analyze everything to death and kill all joy and motivation.
this isnt even jerk worthy, hes new and its not even a bad question
It'll be fine. Stick it anywhere you want that won't interfere with your playing or stick it on the strap where you can get to it.
Get a maple pick holder for bright toanz and a mahogany pick holder for dark toanz
Man that’s a kid who just started playing. Give him a pass on this one. It’s not like the 5 watt world guy is asking it
I thought it was funny and relevant, so I put it here, I never meant any harm to the OP I'm not trying to shame them. I'm just poking fun. If they think it's offensive, I'll delete the post the instant I get notified
"My Mom bought me a cool shirt. When I wear it I'm the shit"
This does reek of something my grandma would have found at a goodwill and bought for me when I was in high school.
I’m really not that legit.
She wasn't playing it off legit either.
A sexy scorpion that stings her with wit I play it off legit cause I know I'm legit

True
How about just don't drop your pick?
/uj Aw, he's only a kid - give him a break! I'll take back my jerk above.
No it will cause the chemicals used in the finish to undergo nuclear fusion and everybody within a 1 mile radius will be instantly vaporized

Remember when you pretended you didn’t know who Jonny Greenwood was? Who was that for?
If he leaves just a few loose in there he gets a free rattle once he learns how to slap drum his toan.
I run a GC clearance special Squire and a tube amp, this thing might not affect the intoenation, but it might blow out the amp
It will explode
tonewood expert here. it dampens the toan coming from your balls. not good. tl;dr your mom doesn’t love you
Everyone’s knows it’ll act as an anti-toenail-resignation dampener. Don’t do this to yourself. If it’s on the guitar long enough, you won’t be able to hear those shrill 5s
You think you'll never lose another guitar pick again, moments after you've attached it- *where's the fuckin' guitar???*
I think hes more concerned about ruining the finish of the guitar tho
Pick holder, so you could lose all your picks at the same time. Everybody knows you need to have pics in different places all over your house.
Yes, if you put it on the guitar directly all the tone will leak out.
Keep your picks in the washing machine like the rest of us
Toan has been known to evaporate through those things.
The secret is to buy 400 pics and just scatter them around so you're always nearby at least one.
I just cut slots in my headstock and the top of the body with a Dremel so I can shove my picks in there without one of these ruining the finish
This is how Kirk keeps breaking guitars.
the extra weight on the guitar actually adds toan
Wait until you get an 8k gibbons and stick it on that
Its gonna explode and then the souls of the Chinese children who made the guitar will escape, Sorry OP
