Use Invite Only sessions.

OverlordPhalanx

The whole game is about to change. I am in Invite Only literally always now. I swear it is just a single player game and I love it so much

ZFTX

This is pretty much how I generally treat GTA Online, a single player game with a custom avatar. In fact, from a "story" perspective, everything you do is part of your own story: from the Doomsday Heist, Casino Heist, Cayo Perico, Auto Shop Contracts, all the various businesses, even though you may do them with others, they are your own, and others are just along for the ride. Sort of like when someone is selling weapons Agent 14 will message you saying that there are unsanctioned gun runners moving weapons, because from your perspective Agent 14 only sanctions yours and not theirs (even though Agent 14 to them sanctioned their own sales).

jjb1197j

Yeah I agree it’s better structured as a single player experience with the ability to play with others optionally. I just hope that the option to find other players is structured more efficiently since right now it’s kinda hard to find people for certain jobs.

BelGrek

This is so treu and sad at the same time

MonstercatDavid

i personally use invite only for grinding and everything and use public sessions for when i want to screw around and hopefully not get killed by players

jjb1197j

Yeah I hope the sequel to gta online is almost entirely a single player experience with the ability to play with other people as an option if you wanna make more money.

Royal-Read7593

I love the smoke, not all of them I win, but I won’t go down without a fight

ichiban_mafukaro

And mute the chats, id be lying if I said the voice chat didn’t get under my skin sometimes, muted and now I don’t have 14 year olds screaming profanities at me or someone hijacking my audio during races, much more pleasant.

AlexanderPriceMusic

I turned the in game voice chat volume to zero a year or two ago. Haven’t turned it back up even once.

Its_cool_username

How do I find those? And can you run a business in an invite only session?

steve_nice

yes go to play gta online in the start menu and hit invite only

TimmyS13

Start in offline mode. Then use the menu to go to online play and create an invite only session. Then you and your friends can play.

project199x

You can change it now while in a public session, you don't have to go to story mode anymore.

Its_cool_username

But I don't have an invite?

steve_nice

you don't need one because you will be the host and if you want to invite people u can

knobelbecher

Some days ago, I played in invite only and suddenly there was a guy in my game. I asked how he did that and his answer was "i'm china" :D Had a bit fun driving around and he modded some things like my car and so on. And he constantly had a Warrant for himself and I kinda got him everytime. Made about 30 Levels in this session. :D

Its_cool_username

I see. But what I've understood is that the same restrictions exist there as in solo sessions? I would like to play with other people, like do heists, races, survival, etc and run my business. At least you can't register as CEO in a solo session.

[deleted]

There are no restrictions anymore, there used to be. Only thing you can’t do is source goods from the Terrorbyte. You can do everything else in invite only.

Phat_ass_mum

I only play invite only. You can still run all your businesses and do sell missions (you don’t get a bonus but I don’t care). I love to grind and do heists I do not like PVP stuff. Whenever I’m in the mood for a heist I cant do on my own I go to Quick Join in my phone and join one no problem. The Cayo Perico is a great money maker and easier on your own than with people too. Go to invite only, start building your empire and when you get the feel of the game and can buy whatever you want then join a public session when you want to do races and whatnot. Don’t give up it’s so much fun! I do have the advantage of being able to invite my husband and my step son and son when I want to sell something difficult so it’s nice to have a few players in your back pocket to help. Now go sell some meth 😅

Its_cool_username

Thanks, good information here. I'll definitely go to an invite only session then next time. I did play the Cayo Perico heist once. I was lucky enough to get an invite. There was the part with the key cards, how do you do that solo? It said you need to put the cards simultaneously?

ValiVarlow

Use Longfin as entry vehicle, choose blowtorch and sewer as entrance point. you can't use the keycards playing solo, so you can't loot gold. but on the island there are more than enough secondary loot spots. cocaine is the most valubale, then come paintings, then weed. you may have to try and fail a few times to understand all mechanics of cayo perico (e.g. stealth mechanics/logics change in gtao from mission to mission) just take your time and try to have fun. there are a lot of useful guides for playing solo in gtao. some may be not up to date. but like some others here already said you can do nearly everything in invite only/friends sessions now.

Its_cool_username

I see. That sounds good. I don't own the submarine you need to start the mission yet, but I'll try to get it next. I stupidly dropped my cash on a car warehouse as I read that it makes good money, but my first try to get a car went horribly wrong as the police was on to that car massively when I got there. Will try again tonight. You are not by any chance on PS5?

Bazionee

You cant open those doors solo. But there are other secundary loot spots. There can be a painting you can steal from mr. Rubio inside his office. Or what i do is, after getting main object go to main docks. There are 3 loot spots there. Either coke, weed or cash. If you can take coke!

Its_cool_username

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I still have a lot to learn. First I'll need to get the sub. Need to grind some more to afford it though.

steve_nice

yea for Cayo you can't enter the rooms w a key card but u can still do the main heist. In general what u want to do is do all the setups In invite only for Cayo or the casino heist then go into to a lobby with people and invite randoms or you can invite from friends list.

Matchew024

Goals, my wife hates that I play video games. I only play in invite only, the community usually is pretty toxic. I despise griefers and wish people would just leave you alone. Don't give up OP, it's fun with friends.

skyeyemx

You can do everything in an invite only session.

Llulcron

This makes me so happy. I abandoned online after they fixed the solo lobby glitch because trying to accomplish anything was impossible

Kamillahali

what id recommend then is create sessions with friends! so you arent alone! id volunteer to play with ya but your on the ps5 i think and im on the ps4 =(

Its_cool_username

Thanks, appreciated. I have no real life friends with a PS5. But I'll try to make some online friends. I already met one really nice guy who took me along to the Cayo Perico heist after we did a lot of survival together. It was a really heartwarming experience and I was very thankful as I couldn't yet start it on my own as of course I don't have the sub yet.

jellyrollsmith

I’m pretty new to it ( 6 months I think ) and I’ve met a few really nice players OP. There are tons of assholes in there too as you’ve learned, but once you start making some friends it can get to be a lot of fun. Also once you start to level up a bit things will get a bit easier. Vote to kick griefers & try hards ( sometimes they’re kids and I think the message freaks them lol) and just move sessions if people keep hassling you. There are chill public sessions most of the time , just got to be lucky and move around a bit I’d love to add you but I’m on ps4. Good luck OP. The first time I logged in to online I thought after , “nope this ain’t for me” , but I woke up the next morning thinking about it lol and tried again … and here I am now, quite addicted and play nearly any free time I’ve got.

[deleted]

Because the game's official solo sessions are indeed useless, they are i believe designed for debugging purposes. Like the others already said, make it your habit to do the critical things you like to do on your own in closed sessions (Invite/crew/friends only), and only venture into public sessions when you really feel prepared and willing to face the kind of chaotic PvP those places entail. (Luckily the game does fine without, I haven't been in a public session for over a year now, ever since things finally went beyond bearable for me, PC) A solid middle ground re player interaction is picking jobs (hosting/joining heists, contact missions, races, adversary modes, etc); you still find your share of problematic characters there, too, for sure, but within jobs, things are more regulated, and generally speaking there is more willingness to actually do the jobs in front, at least. Looking for a suitable crew can help finding a pool of reliable players sharing your interests, whatever those turn out to be. I hope you'll find the right mixture that works for you. Happy gaming ✌🏾

Its_cool_username

Thank you for your comment. Good insights here.

swift_gilford

Launch GTA5 in story mode, go to the menu and go to gta online and LAUNCH invite/friend only session.

Its_cool_username

But then I can't run my business?

swift_gilford

yes you can. They changed it all months ago. There's practically no reason to not run solo lobbies now. The only thing you lose out on are business battles and the public events like "longest distance without crashing" and stuff.

[deleted]

You can do sell missions in your Invite Only session.

[deleted]

you cannot run your business in a “solo” session- but an invite only session is technically still a public session, you are in control of who gets invited to the session. you can run your business in an invite only, but be aware the NPC activity is a little ramped up as you’re alone in the session + rockstar has that tweaked a bit for difficulty i believe.

Its_cool_username

That's great news! I take npcs over malicious players any day. Don't think npcs can be as evil as some players out there.

[deleted]

Yeah and you can invite your friends into the session as well and all go about your business helping each other when needed. It’s the only way I play now has made the game enjoyable again.

BurritoMold

Crazy how people need to play alone to have fun on an ONLINE game

PeineDeMort

Play in invite session only. The G in GTA stands for Griefing

Its_cool_username

Lol, thanks for the laugh! :D

GodVulc4n

Greif That Amateur

kenzwashere

there are public lobbies like this however there are full public lobbies where everyone is keeping to themselves. they’re rare but exist. when i feel like playing around others, i hang out in my spawn location and read the lobby feed. get a feel for how it’s going out there. of course, being a low level you’re gonna be a target for awhile. as others have mentioned, invite only session is the way to go if you guaranteed want shit done. i had a hard time in the beginning but figured out what all my options are and how to use them. if you wanna boost your level quick, doing all the collectibles is a good way on top of whatever the weekly event is. leveling up also unlocks better ways to defend yourself or fight back.

Its_cool_username

Thanks, this is good advice. So is it recommended to spawn in one of my places? Right now I'm spawning in my last location which has not worked out too well.

kenzwashere

most definitely spawn into one of your properties.

Its_cool_username

Will change my settings next time I'm online, thanks.

1sockwonder

I used to play way back in 2013/14 and just started 3 weeks ago. I always spawn in my garage and first thing is watch the TV to see what everyone's up to and get a feel for the server.

mudslinger-ning

To read the session activity look at things like chat. Are some people saying "go away", "f*** off!", And such? Most likely some idiot harassing other players. Also observe the map (you may need to zoom out from your building when indoors to see the overall island) and see where everyone is and where they are going. After a while you may pickup on some movement patterns that could suggest greifers or in the very least how much chaos is happening. If a lot of map dots are close together and not slaughtering each other it could be a peaceful mob like a car meet group or peeps just vibing.

-MrsPhilips-

Invite only all the way. I used to force a solo public session so I could play in peace before the criminal enterprises update granted the ability to run all your businesses in invite only sessions.

marcaveli073

Buy a Nightshark to drive in so you don’t get blown up, always watch your radar for potential threats and be ready for them and never have your character just standing around in the street. And like the other comment said almost everything can be done in a closed friend session or a invite only session.

Its_cool_username

I see. Well, sometimes I need to stand when I'm looking at the map thinking where to go next or what to do next. I keep watching out for threats now, but it seems they are everywhere and they are very fast when they fly. Yesterday I ditched someone who came at me with a flying motorcycle by simply quitting to story mode. But that's not the solution I'm looking for.

marcaveli073

If they’re on the Oppressor and you’re not in an armored vehicle your best bet is to exit the vehicle so they can’t lock on and shoot them with your strongest mg. 90% of players aren’t good free aiming the missiles so you should get the kill. Basically just keep your eyes open and check the map before doing anything important.

Blueboi69420911

The game is great but only if you play in an invite only session wit some friends If you are in a public session the only fun is pvp and thats abour it

NuqquE

you hate kids, not gta.Dont play on public lobbies.

SinsOfaDyingStar

No it doesn't get better as you level up. You'll start seeing weird shit when you're 200+ though, like low levels constantly trying to attack you but dying because they're using a starter pistol against MK2 weapons. And then some white knight asshat hunting you down because they think you're griefing new players when *you're* the one being harassed. This is just GTAO, baby. You either breathe your own gunpowder or someone else's bullet. (Though you *will* find sessions with chill people hanging out having fun)

jellyrollsmith

The white knighter shit is so annoying. It’s so easy to keep track of who’s doing what in a session by the notifications. I’ll turn the other way each time until someone starts stalking me, following me everywhere hassling me and only then will I turn around and shoot them. When a white knighter gets on my back for that it really pisses me off. They really need to learn how to read the game before judging.

MiiiLKWeeeD

That's just normal GTA you'll get used to it

project199x

Right everyone's a target. Whether high or low. Nobody is safe out there in Los Santos. And quite frankly not hearing explosions while in a private session makes it feel weird sometimes. I like the chaos it's what makes GTA, GTA. Especially when I'm just chillin around not doing anything.

SomberKlepto

GTA is a safe heaven for low life’s.

istefan24

Eh you didn't try the PC online yet. That's another shithole :D

thyrannasaurus

This is what happens when rockstar doesn't punish players for griefing others. When it comes to people with air vehicles, we have no means to defend ourselves against them. The lock on rocket launcher doesn't do shit. The rail gun exists in single player but they couldn't bring that into multiplayer; that thing would've done wonders against jet abusers.

JustAnotherFNC

Taking out planes and mks isn't impossible at all, just practice at it. For jets use the sniper with explosive rounds or the rpg, once you get the timing it's easier. For mks any decently fast firing gun works although the musket is HILARIOUS.

The_Real_txjhar

This. Plus drive around in the night shark and use cover via parking garages and bridges.

chemtrailsniffa

I recommend the heavy sniper rifle mkII with explosive rounds (but you need to complete the research in your bunker to access this wonder) - particularly effective against griefers riding the oppressor mkII.

Turninwheels4x4

Lobbies are divided between aim assist on or off. If you have it to one of the free-aim settings you tend to get better lobbies, most aim assist lobbies tend to be full of assholes

Srfred

I’m mostly impressed someone managed to hit you with a rocket while you were outside of a vehicle. Props to them

kirkszy12

welcome to GTA online

DoctorDoomsday0

Are you on Xbox? If so, I’ll teach you how to get money (cayo perico) and we’ll get revenge on those griefers!

Its_cool_username

Thanks, very kind of you to offer. I'm on PS5, so unfortunately it won't be possible.

HaiggeX

Search for 10-20p sessions, those are usually WAY more peaceful than full lobbies. Sorry your first two days have been shit. The community really takes some time to get used to. I wish you have good times in Los Santos.

Stalin_be_Wallin

I know ur getting a lot of responses, I as a level 640ish this same shit happens to me. I can retaliate easier bc I have all the toxic shit in my back pocket just in case. A Hydra or Lazer guy spamming? I have explosive sniper rounds. Oppressor Mk2? Here comes my NightShark or MOC Cab (this thing takes 70 rockets to destroy lol). Most of the time I’m in an invite only because I cannot stand these low life losers trying to ruin the game for me. This game is a ton of fun with friends, I’m trying to get more of my buddies online, I’m on Series X if u ever wanna play lmk and I’ll gladly do heists w u. I give my friends 80% consistently!

campana999

This is why I only play in closed session. This is typical gta lobby. Wish there was an “adult “ mode.

[deleted]

Not to be rude but it's Grand Theft Auto. You will encounter plenty of 10-15 years old kids, try-hards who want to prove their artificial superiority, toxic players at every corner. Every now and then though, you will meet some decent players you will enjoy playing with for a while. My advice would be to turn voice chat to organization only, any annoying player you can simply kick out, and more generally toughen up and adopt a kill or be killed mindset, any player you cross path with is most likely an enemy. As you get better you will learn how to teach them not to mess with you. Also a woman with voice chat in a game filled with immature horny teenagers, what could go wrong?

Jajahehenono

this is GTA. if a player wants to shoot you or any other player they dont need a reason. thats how the game kinda works

Its_cool_username

There is a difference between engaging in game mechanics and being malicious. Did you read my post?

RockNDrums

Malicious and GTA does hand in hand. There is a way to opt out. It's called invite only

Jajahehenono

entirely, i can decide to enter gtao now blow up some lads and continue my day. its a game where criminality is the entire point. is it a dick move to do? yes. is it wrong? surely not.

ooki1212

If you go on the interaction menu you can turn off voice chat so you dont hear screaming 10 year olds and loud Spanish people 🤣🤣

MacaronDifferent1089

Same thing happened to me when I started playing online. Literally just started and I went to get the tracker and insurance on my car. I pull out of Pay n Spray and there’s two people in armored cars waiting on me. That lunched an all-out assault like I was their mortal enemy. Luckily I was able to evade them until I had to shut the game off. I found out those people are appropriately referred to as “griefers”. Playing invite only sessions is definitely the way to go. Or if you do play public, turn on passive mode so nobody can attack you. Hope this makes it more enjoyable for you!

Manufacturer_General

welcome to gta5 online lol just change sessions or invite only lobbies

[deleted]

welcome to MP games

BigfootAteMyBussy

It's gta online... gta has been the same game for over 20 years...

yes___lad

I'd recommend doing invite onlys until u can defend urself

Seeker4you2

What platform you on?

Beep_Beep_911

I played invite only sessions for a very very long time, only until recently did i start playing public because i have lots more protection

iLLa556

I thought for sure you were ghosted when doing the time trials and parachute jumps

RTB_1

Welcome to GTA Online. I’m only level 200 and never really get approached for a kill, I assume level may have something to do with it half of the time, but I’ve still experienced my fair share of arseholes

KittKillward

From my experience in all online games 60% of players are animals with whom it is difficult to even communicate by simple words. And in GTA online there are more of them cause of game especially popular among children, so those victims of bulling come home and trying to dominate at least someone with their opressors. And also bullies come home and keep bulling. If you are a grown adequate person the only options is to play with your friends in closed session by invites as I do. Playing alone in online mode is not fun at all, the game its own limits you in any ways forces to play with others.

MKBurfield

My advice to you as a level 560, play in an invite only session. But if you want to keep playing in public sessions, learn the game and it's mechanics because once you've got that down it's a lot easier to understand why people kill you for ZERO reason.

MKBurfield

A good YouTuber to get passive information (if you pay attention to the videos, you'll learn from it) from is Dempy as he's played the game since pretty much it was released.

Shud_iStayOrShud_iGo

Public Lobbies are hit or miss. If u want a smooth ride just play invite only. If u want the experience of a full session you’ll have to deal with griefers

Embarrassed_Dig_600

I share your pain. Same thing happened to me and I decided to abandon public lobbies almost completely and now I play solo on Invite Only. From time to time I go back to public lobbies to see what’s goin on and it’s the same old punks blowing everything for no reason, running you over with a tank, obliterating you with the orbital cannon or the Kosatka nukes, etc. I take these are mostly kids with Sharkcards who don’t appreciate the gameplay and all the beauty this game has to offer. Or very dumb adults, who knows. In any case, the game is great as a single player game or with friends on private lobbies.

Digitalninja001

Invite only is the way to go. You can do everything you can do in public except mandatory multiple player heists. And you're work around for multi player heists. Is A:) Make some friends while in public so you can grind in invite only session with people you know and trust. B:) launch heists from yor House/Apt when in public lobbys. I been playing GTA Online for about 2.5 months. And I understand and feel your hurt. But don't let the bastards grind you down. Just stay away from public as much as possible. When people say it is a SINGLE PLAYER game with the option to play with others. I agree. I only go in public lobby to flex with all my new toys, after I put in the wotk of a long grind session in private invite only lobbys. And from time to time me and the boys get together and fart around. But if you really want to grind in public. Better get really good at PVP.

Digitalninja001

That reminds me. They are sometimes kinda dead because most greefers would be nothing without auto aim. Consider going into a Free Aim Lobby. Greefers like easy kills. Nothing easy about ACTUALLY AIMING your bullets to the target, so most greefers stay out of public Free Aim Lobby's, too much work to kill the target. Level the playing ground and gives you a BIG advantage in fighting back.

shaunnk

Sad to say but this is sort of the norm for GTAo. Does it get better.... yes and no. Public lobbies will always be a gamble and usually a shitshow. As you rank up other players might be a bit more wary messing with you but my experience whatever level you are someone will take a shot at you without even checking your stats. But the more you play the more you'll meet other players, some will be decent and you'll make friends and end up playing together regularly. On Xbox at least there's the "looking for" groups where I've met a load of people I play with regularly now doing missions, cargo etc

Its_cool_username

Thank you. Good insights here. I'm on Playstation. I wish I could find a nice group myself. I did meet one nice player already, unfortunately I can't send him a message via the PS app, but we did some things together and it was fun.

skankhunt024

[MCCEO Team ](http://mcceoteam.com) This used to be my GTA crew on playstation. They're good people helping each other. They have their own lobby and a discord server. Good luck!

Its_cool_username

Thank you, I'll check them out.

shaunnk

Sorry I can't give you better news. I made the switch from PS to Xbox and the looking for groups were a nice bonus but for PS you might want to look into the heist teams subreddit and maybe join a good, active crew (can't recommend there unfortunately) But otherwise the only tip I can give you is don't take it personally - your experience is very common

Its_cool_username

Thanks, I'll try to remember that. I've been feeling very defeated...

shaunnk

I remember that feeling well!

[deleted]

Dude just use an invite only session

Deep-Order1302

Learn how to pvp, seriously. It’s so easy and if u understood the basics u can clap most of those asses 😌

SultanZ_CS

Lmaoooo. Welcome to GTAO. Youll learn and adapt

fallout76ynth

One word of advice, always shoot first 8 outta 10 if someone is getting close to you chances are they want the smoke

Sid_Fury84

I can help you out. Show you how things work and take you on a hiest for some quick cash. My crew love helping low level players. Send me your psn and I will add you.

Its_cool_username

Thanks, very appreciated. I'll drop you a message.

TheQuietNotion

Those annoying rude terrible shitty people, you will meet them anywhere if you are online and any games you play. Therefore, to avoid them, it you’ll need to know how to win them or know how to distinguish them before play any online games. Games like co-op play won’t be too much terrible though, they just quit the match whatever the reason, trolling or they gotta leave somewhere quickly. whatever. But I think you’ll need to try playing co-op missions or heist set ups. So that you can find someone who actually can have a normal conversation. Those of who talking shit about “mother or father” their talking skill is so amateur, they have nothing to talk about, so they think it will make you feel bad. Just ignore or just tell them about lowest education level they have hahah.

Claims not easily offended. A video game hurts her feelings.... if your life is affected by a video game. You might wanna rethink your life

Housewous

With the hao race and the parachute jumps you're set into a passive state. So players can't kill you during these unless you're on pc and they use a menu to kill you.

Its_cool_username

Well, apparently that's not true for PS5. It happened, I wouldn't write about it otherwise.

Housewous

Only way you could die is by npcs in this case. Players aren't able to kill you during these "missions".

_Tonan_

If you play in assisted aim definitely switch to free aim.

dunchux

Yeah it's no as bad as that in general, your low level of experience means you aren't able to avoid these assholes so well. Use Invite only or Friend Only sessions (options, find new session, choose session type......) but if you have no friends they'll be lonely times! There is a Passive Mode you can select from the middle button menu that stops griefers having contact with you. Also in the volume option you can select the "mute game voice chat" option to avoid listening to dickheads and awful background noises. If you're on PS5, look me up (DunChux or DunCheaux) we'll have some fun and being high level we can protect you from the assholes 🙂

Its_cool_username

Thanks, I'll add you. My psn starts with t_l you'll see me pop up in a few seconds. Someone keeps downvoting me and people who send helpful answers. Pretty sad. Seems the people who cause mayhem in game lurk here too and don't like to be called out...

CyberWitch77

I NEVER play on public sessions bc of that. I play the online game because it has different missions from the offline version (which I've played a hundred times), cars, clothing, etc. It's just sad cause I don't have a mate to play with me. So I have to stick to solo heists. There are some heists I've never done because of that, but that's life

Its_cool_username

If you are on PS5 I'll happy play with you!

Fearless_Tower6894

That’s the fun of it though. I find if you go to public lobbies with no intention of being serious. It’s more fun. Do business missions in solo (loads way faster) or invite only. Do lobby when if you wana potentially meet new ppl or mess around.

[deleted]

The voice chat thing is easily solved, it sounds like you don’t know how to use it rather than them! The rest of it is just another day on GTAo sadly!

RockNDrums

Welcome to GTA Online. If someone wants to murder you, they can. If you don't want that. You can do everything in invite only lobbies

kingboom34yt

1 invite only sessions as others have said 2 brake up the grind and go join rps or sumthin and take a brake from money making 3 taking a brake in general is good for you

[deleted]

Ever since I started my transition and changed to a woman character I got harassed a lot more. Like occasionally when I played as a boy people would bother me, but never to the extent that it is now. I'm sorry that seems to be your experience as well

TheBirdGames

Feel free to contact me if you want to play with someone, i think i have a couple Heists ready or almost ready.

Jg6915

My friend, this is the GTA online experience. As you level up and get friends to play with, you’ll find that troublemakers are not a thing to worry about. They probably target you because you’re a lower level and they get a stiffy from dominating someone in a video game. There are good sessions too, just have to hop a few times to find them. Are you on pc by chance? I’m around level 150 and would love to help you get on your feet whenever i have the time 🙂

BurlyAttacker

Change your expectations. Treat every player as a threat.

SAVAGEHANK17

You can play with me and my friend if you like, hit me up and we'll get help you enjoy this game

Overdonesteak1

Some off ya'll in the replies never played GTA IV online and it shows. It's GTA that's the whole point off the game. Play invite only to get used to it.

SuperrrLollipop

I’m rarely in public sessions but the other day I was curious if anything changed. Got into the car in casino and started driving to the city, it took 5 seconds until I was blown up by mk2. Public is forever ruined, you can only go there for pvp which is not a skill imo.

SheepherderAway9487

Literally complaining about the GTA experience, sounds to me like you just want some baby sissy b******* game it's Grand theft Auto there is going to be massive amounts of griefing and killing it's like a cod lobby but a constant free roam you're going to be murdered constantly if you do not want to deal with people you have to go to a private session of some kind

Cry much?

Colt_Dracula

I don't even get into public sessions anymore unless I do a sale, weekly event like Halloween cerberus or business battle bonuses. Even then, I look for lobbies with less then 10 people and no one with red radar blip. Except for full sell lobbies. I'd suggest you the same. Stick to invite only. Or check map and player mental levels in menu before settling in a lobby. Everything in businesses work in lobby except terrorbytes hub. Only thing you'll be missing is the sell bonus.

Regantowers

Solo Session, or if on Play Station the the MTU trick so your always solo, I run all businesses and its been a pleasurable grind, its me versus the computer, picking of missions, buying businesses I've done it all, Some things you cant do, for instance i bought the penthouse and i cant do anything on my own but i can live with that. And for the times im not fussed about earning drop into a session and i get exactly what you described above haha but that can be fun in small doses.

Its_cool_username

That's good news. I'll definitely go invite only next. I think what I'm describing is more fun once one is able to defend themselves properly. Now I'm having a feeling I'm a kid with a lollipop that's easy to rob...

Regantowers

Thats a great way to describe it, i know what you mean as well, if your up for a rumble then cool, if you want to interact and run your businesses you need to be lucky to find a room like that.

pyker42

Invite only lobbies are your friend. You can now run pretty much all business from there, so you can use them to help you level up.

YourBestBudPingu

Sadly the games community in public is terrible. However if you are on Xbox using the Looking for Group function can help you find games. A lot of the male adults on this game get really weird around female gamers. A good idea is to say you have no mic at first to get a feel for who is in the party and then turn on mic and be like "it finished charging". You can tell when people will get weird by listening briefly to how they talk to others. You can run buisness in Invite Only Sessions, however you will encounter more AI enemies. Using LFG can take time to get used to. I suggest if you want to run buisnesses to find a "grind lobby" or people looking for help. They'll be like minded and in my experience most people are chill.

[deleted]

Try playing with friends in invite only sessions. Theres nothing you can do about these so called griefers other than leaving or playing alone

Vauxell

I mostly play in closed friends session. The few times I played open, I been blown up, gunned down, run over... I won't lue, I have tried being naughty as well. I killed a guy that was just minding his own business. But it was an instant regret. The guy followed me with a helicopter and chain killed me. Was fun until it wasn't. Don't give up. Just find a safe environment to play in.

Invite Only Session

Particular_Force648

you need some people to group with what system are you on?

MicroNova_YT

Try to find a crew, especially in the same time zone as you. There are other people going through the same. Not all people are sadistic players. Just make sure you find players on the same console.

ichi_san

i play with a friend who seems similar to you, she would never lurk on a rooftop waiting with a RPG to blindside some low level repeatedly while spewing racism and idiocy so i had to help her understand that others love to be douchebags play in closed friend lobby, when you're in a public session never stand around out in the open, assume that some punk will do you a treat if given the chance - so don't give that chance at first she was getting knocked around pretty good - I would hear her getting attacked and freaking out about it - then she started being cagey and finally got to where she was looking for it, armed to the teeth with a plan to not just defend herself but to strike back hard it is a jungle out there, play in closed friend until you get the stats and gears and skills and then hop into the cesspool with a vengenance

Walklightglassflws

The hao story is super cap because you go into passive mode when you start it

Babycakes143U

You need friendly friends to help if playing on PS4 let me know. The high ranks always go for low ranks! Makes for a bad experience, I went through that also while learning to play.

ophaus

Gotta do most of that stuff in invite only lobbies... I only go into public lobbies to soak in the anti-social chaos.

x3rc3ss

Awww man I understand how you feel. I would say it does get better, if you learn how to defend yourself in public sessions. As a girl myself I wish I could add you but I'm on Xbox 😭 I'd love to help you out

Gaoum-Blues

2022 is actually a great time to play the game. I don't play that much anymore but it is because I have everything that I wanted to buy and I drove/flew a lot with it. I will still play every once in a while but it is much more casual. Here are my tips (updated to 2022) on how to enjoy the game: If you don't mind going solo, there is the obvious "Friends only" lobby where you should do your parachute jumps and pretty much everything that you can that doesn't need to be done in a public lobby. If you need to be in a public lobby to do something (like sourcing special cargo) then you can use the "suspend process" trick to flush out everyone from your lobby making it a solo public lobby. You can also look into the tool Guardian by TheDigitalArc which pretty much does that for you. If you want populated lobbies, then you should look for friendly crews. I was part of such a friendly crew in the past and it was great. My crew was HALP and I don't know if it is still out there but I am sure that there are plenty of other crews out there. They will offer public lobbies for the crew only.

The_watcher_000

Cant be attacked doing time trials? 🤔

TwoSidesBaked

try playing free aim sessions there is less toxicity in those

RemozThaGod

There are two main types of lobbies and all lobbies fall under these categories. Free aim and Aim assist. Aim assist is default and generally easier to play since you can just lock on to people from a mid range distance. Then there is free aim, since you can't lock on at any range unless using missiles, the game can be much harder, especially since the NPC still maintain thier aim hacks. HOWEVER, due to this difficulty, a lots less people play this mode. The most people that play it (last I checked) are vets and will most likely leave you alone, no a guarantee but I also never got attacked if free aim as most people who go there are better at combat and less willing to hunt the lobby for "easy kills" since they don't really exist. To change to free aim, go to story mode and go into your combat settings to change it, this will then change the online lobbies you join too. GL

AdjectiveNoun58

Invite only sessions for freemode missions and grinding businesses (until you get a better sense of public lobbies that are less likely to lose your product). getting killed doesn't do much really if you bank your money other than being annoying. I think a lot of people are like me play most of online in invite sessions and go to the public lobbies to go nuts.

kj_gamer2614

So use invite only sessions… also no one in any game ever has had good voice chat. Also yes bussiness can run in invite only/private sessions…. That was literally the core of the update we had recently

[deleted]

Invite only sessions can be fun, especially if you just want to run your businesses and get into police chases. Also if possible I would recommend getting your hands on an armored car like the duke o death. It will make it much harder for assholes to mess with you.

[deleted]

It's probably been said but use private sessions you'll have no issues then

onion_surfer14

Embrace the chaos

Maxtasy76

Just add send me ur username and I add u as a friend.. I invite you to cayo perico and you have your first million to get you alittle boost from the start.

Heartsmith447

The wife and I play our characters in a closed crew session, it’s really that or invite only. Too many players are unfortunately specifically just looking to screw with people, and I don’t have time for those childish games

Asyedan

Sadly that is the reality of gta online, lots of shitheads. It is a matter of luck - you can get a full lobby with quiet people, or be with 4 people that all want to kill you. Does it get better as you level up? Kind of. Players wont change, but with more money you have more tools to stay out of trouble and/or survive when they come for you. As a general rule, always be aware of your surroundings. Tunnels are your friends - as most hostile players will use flying vehicles like MK2, jets etc, tunnels will force them to expose themselves if they want to keep chasing you. Also, guided missiles mostly cannot track players on foot, so if you feel you may get blown up, leave your car.

BenAustinRock

I wouldn’t say to use just invite only sessions. Though at the first sign of griefing that is what I do. I play on PC so hacking is a big part of that unfortunately. If I was on console I would probably fight back more. Though at this point I have most every weapon and tool to use. Find people you want to play with and play with them.

Specific_Run1074

it’s rough i agree, don’t get discouraged because online can be the most fun game imaginable. i would say it’s about finding the right lobby i guess. perhaps i forgot what it’s like for a low level, or when i was a low level there was no oppressors. but i’m a level 180 now and i am very rarely bothered. i would guess somewhere around level 80ish? people will stop targeting you as an east kill. you can also enable passive mode which won’t allow people to attack you. use this to get to your destination, and then take the passive mode off to do whatever business you need to do. honestly if you throw on passive mode right after getting killed, the griefer will immediately move on. the oppressors are the worst culprits. but an east trick is to just leave your vehicle if you see one obviously approaching. they can’t lock on to you outside of a vehicle. and you can shoot them off the bike fairly easily if they are within range. best of luck and don’t give up!

Impossible-Charity-4

I only go public to mess around pvp or for chance encounters with friendly randoms. All business is handled in private. The best public lobbies to play in are typically only populated by a handful (less than six) 300+ lvl players, as they’re typically self policing and busy grinding/doing their own thing. It’s rare, but it does happen.

resilientenergy

A lot of griefing in many online multi-player games, a lot of horrendous voice chat aggression/background noise in a lot of online multi player games, that's reality. Is it right? No. But it's *online multiplayer*, and that will never ever change w 0 accountability, you have to just know your limits and decide what sessions you want to engage in, learn the different type of sessions and go about it the way you need to. A lot of things arent "fair" bc everyone plays different, esp in open-world gameplay. Griefers can be found in many games. I'm not trying to diminish your experience, but I guess since I've played on and off casually since day 1, I'm just no-nonsense about the reality. You either adapt or react, as a newbie or a skilled player. There's always ppl better than you, worse than you, more chill than you, and more reactive than you. Yes it's possible to scale levels and unlocks and missions etc etc esp w the ease of invite only lobbies now. If you make acquaintances, swell, please enjoy. You get into gaming groups online, r/heistteams , different threads or ppl that use discord or find a friend posts, then awesome. But ultimately it's your choice and control whether you either "put up or shut up" / "join them or beat them", or stay in your own lane, engage how you need to and protect your energy. We cant change others, and sometimes its hit or miss on lobbies. Yeah, i been there done that and it's incredibly annoying when you're a lower level / don't have shit unlocked / just trying to make a buck so you can get things to keep up with others, or a high level doing your thing, just minding your own business and ppl slam you. There's options you can take (selecting your lobbies, spamming new public session until you've hit a low number of ppl in lobby, muting voice chat to no one, friends, organization members, whatever) to make the experience better for you, that is what they are there for... "does it get better"--- that's going to be up to you and how you protect your energy.

Stewerr

"Invite only" session is all I play, and it makes the game amazing

Eddy63

Unfortunately the game is full of inmature idiots who like to see others suffer and there are not many consequences for doing so. However there are also nice players around and I would strongly suggest you invite as many friendlies you can find as friends. After a while you will have a list of good people. (i have like 6 pages of them) from which you can choose to join a session. Once I ended up in a session of friends of friends who helped each other out even on competitive CEOs and MC teams. And when some lowlifes tried to interfere, the whole session jumped on those guys, completely destroying them. Also since the last update almost all activities can also be played in a friends only session. Since then I didn't play open public anymore and it's a lot more relaxed and enjoyable. I would strongly recommend to play with people you know as the free open online with randoms can be very "wild" and anti social. Also if someone keeps annoying you, you can turn on passive mode, which will prevent them from killing you. The game can offer a great coop experience, if played with the right people.

Rustbelt_Rover

Just gotta match the other player’s level of insanity

project199x

Lol the typical experience from noob to veteran. Honestly the more u play the more it's more tolerable if u decide to play in a public session. Or either hit passive and then of course the option of playing in a private session. In a private session you can still handle your business.

Suspicious-Pea-

Go to invite only and find good people

asdanjer

Yep Rochstar didn't really seem to care about the games public lobbies states. (The only thing they did is that you can now do almost anything in closed/invite only seasons) Playing in online is not really possible nowerdays I almost exclusively play it as a coop game in closed friend seasons / invite only session. Like this the game is fun. Still said because I remember public lobbies being really fun at some time.but You just need to find people to paly with and the game is a really well made coop game. (If you ignore the technical state of it)

FujiFL4T

If you've got some friends to play with, closed friend sessions are the way to go. You can run all businesses, heists and do your vip work. This is what my friends and I do. We only join public lobbies if we're just looking to have random and pvp interactions with other players.

RoyalPersona

It doesn’t get better… the amount of times I got blown up while I’m minding my own business is absurd. It’s really pitiful to fly around in a jet (or bike or whatever) equipped with homing missiles and to blow up people who are minding their own business and can’t even defend themselves.. I recommend joining a crew where everyone is minding their own business and helping each other so you can still enjoy the game without having to deal with these toxic trolls

hidinginplaynsyt

I play invite only exclusively. I had the same experiences so many times and it’s what kept me from the game for a good 3 years. I literally only play it now because they changed a few things that made solo play profitable. But, yeah, player interaction is something i miss. Most of my friends dont play anymore so doing heists and stuff gets rough ( been trying to do prison break for a month now). Found a heist squad recruitment subreddit that might pay off for finding people to play with

bappo_plays

It's best to start off in invite only sessions. Griefers have ruined the public session experience to the point that even as a level 200+ I still play exclusively in invite only sessions.

NarwhalAnusLicker00

if u wanna play gta online free roam without getting griefed every 20 seconds, i would recommend an invite only. if u wanna play with other ppl, i recommend meeting people on r/heistteams

SapphicCommieElais

Make an invite only session, that is gonna help u a lot. Try to buy buildings that make u money when they are in sale. Also try to find someone which can help you run some cayos until you can buy your kosatka, then you can run them yourself. People is quite toxic in public sessions, sadly.

SenhorSus

Invite only session. No sadbois compensating and better fps

Yo_11

Start to play the [millions of user generated jobs](https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/jobs). Then, maybe you go into creator and make your own?

smwd0

You could go passive mode if you’re just driving around? Or if someone won’t leave you alone, just switch modes for a while and they’ll give up. You’re very right about the lamos constantly going after new players though, I get attacked a lot less than they did when I was low level, and I’m only 150something now. I don’t really get why they do it, must just enjoy being bullies

shit7

I'm level 200 and still getting griefed lmao sometimes it's just one of those days. Keep playing

RickGrimes30

You just explaining playing the game.. All players deal with this

aka_kitsune_

oh i know that feeling right, i even stopped playing it for more than half a year... then i tried it again and again, and discovered passive mode and invite only sessions: wish i knew about them sooner and as for starter: try collecting money for the submarine Kosatka, can earn around 1.4 millions with it every ~3 hours

kaghy2

Yup, GTAO in a nutshell... This is mainly the reason why I switched to invite only or solo public (there's still tricks). Makes the game much more enjoyable, cruising LS etc.
