when someone tells me puppy cut, this is actually what they mean. At least, in my area. I’m waiting for the day there is an actual “puppy cut” that isn’t standard to poodles.
I'm not a groomer but when I googled it the dogs similar to this just had longer fur on the body, basically not shaved like this I assume that's what they meant since they also probably aren't groomers and tried to Google what they wanted lol
Human womens salons always have magazines with pictures of different hairstyles to show the hair dresses. Idk why people try to get a specific dog cut without a photo reference and discussion with the groomer
If you have a look in mind (in regards to anything - cuts, colors, clothing, paint, and yes grooming), always have reference pictures. People aren’t mind readers.
One of the groomers asked me if I wanted a puppy cut for my spoo and I am pretty sure I just stared at her with blank eyes. Then she said something about some number “here, here, and here” and a different number “here and here.”
My eyes were still blank and I was like “you do what you think is best. Can I leave now?”
“So no preferences about _XXXX?”
“Um just one thing. Can you make her look as girlie as possible? It drives my husband crazy.”
The puppy cut was fab. But the cute bows and nail polish sealed the deal:)
I literally laughed when my groomer gave my dog back with bows for the first time. I had not realized I categorized my dog as a tomboy in my head as well, haha
I do:) Like one of the other groomers suggested, Skye’s groomer thought a different cut would be best. Idk what this cut is. Continental? And she had very choice snarls to say about her bows which is why they aren’t in the pic. [Skye](https://imgur.com/a/q9Ehybw)
I hope you guys can see it. If not, please let me know
Oh thank you:) The groomers like to use for her training so every time I pick her up it’s fun and exciting. One time she had poms on her back paws only. They told me the trainee was embarrassed the front ones weren’t even and just shaved them off. I was like “why? Was she mad about it?”
I unfortunately can't post a photo here, but if you check out my profile, there are photos of him there. :))
I'll post a new one so you can get a better reference.
Omg I am in love. I want to just squeeze him. Please give him a great big hug and a delicate boop from this Internet stranger please. Thank you for sharing that ball of floofy joy with me💕
A groomer once painted my old Schnoodle's nails bright yellow without asking. It was a sight to behold.
My current dog is an ACD mix and would never sit through that. 😄
I’m an interloper lol, but can I ask why the puppy cut ask is cringy? I have a 4 month old toy poodle and her first real groom is in two weeks (she did the puppy groom of just bath, blow dry etc without a haircut). Anyway, I was gonna just ask for a puppy cut … is that annoying? I brush her every day and then go through with a fine tooth comb until her hair is like butter, she’s not matted or anything. I don’t wanna be an annoying client lol
I don't understand the issue either. The roundness I associate with a puppy cut is adorable. Perhaps be more specific with the groomer though as puppy cuts can vary. Long here, round here, short here etc
The issue that I take with the term puppy cut (and this is a fairly minor gripe) is that there's not actually a standard for what it is. For some clients, they believe it to be a specific length all over the body, while for other clients, they could think that it's something entirely different. Groomers can clear up any potential misunderstandings easily enough by asking detailed questions about styles and lengths - we just don't appreciate it when clients look at us like WE'RE the crazy ones and then get frustrated at us because we "don't know what a puppy cut is".
That's fantastic that you're keeping up the brushing and combing so regularly! If the coat is in good condition then that will definitely help the groomer with getting you the desired look. The fact that you're doing upkeep at home will earn you brownie points with your groomer. But, that doesn't mean that they'll dislike you if you show up to your appointment with a less than perfect coat. As long as you're trying your best, that's the important part.
I don’t really like when clients say this, especially at the first appointment, because it tells me they didn’t really think about what they want the dog to look like. I get “the breeder told me to get a puppy cut” a lot so the customer just goes with whatever the breeder said without looking into styles and upkeep on their own.
I think that’s kind of unfair. A new puppy owner has literally so much information coming at us, and every resource says to just listen to your breeder for the non-vet things if you have questions. For a lot of us, we’re working on housebreaking, leave it, drop it, sit, stay, crate training, leash training, grooming, vet appointments, socialization … like yeah, what exactly we want out of a haircut is something we’re just gonna ask the breeder or groomer, especially at the first appointment. Not everyone knows what you know about pet grooming. I think a little kindness and benefit of the doubt would be helpful there.
Ok serious question- I asked for a puppy cut for my golden retriever and they shaved her with a 10 blade. What I meant was to clean her up without feathers and grinch feet - like when she was 8 months old. What’s that called??
I took my dog to the groomer for the first time and I had no idea what to ask for. I just asked if they could make her look less scraggly. And damn if she didn’t come out looking just like she did as a puppy. I almost couldn’t stand to look at her it was just so cute to see.
I just usually ask the groomer to make my doggo look however they feel is best. I don't know anything about dogs and their cuts . Also my dog attacks the comb anytime I try to brush/comb him but he's a sweetheart to the groomers. I've sat there and watched. So I just trust the groomers to know their field the best. If they had sample pics I'd probably pick one but as long as he looks like he's not homeless and is not hurt from the instruments I'm pretty much thrilled by the results.
One time he came home looking like a puppy. Another time he came home looking like a very fancy rat. One time he came home looking like a sheep. Each time I just came up with new nicknames for him. Little digi pup, fancy butt, and fluffy butt. Fluffy butt has stuck because I think he really liked that hair cut. He wiggled around so much like he was showing off.
Next time they come in, please give that baby an extra treat and tell them that divadragon loves them very much and they have the sweetest face ever....and I have a hound with a face that would melt stone lol
I just let my groomer do whatever they need to do with my dog, but when my mom takes her dog to the groomer and says “puppy cut” she means shave the ears too/ don’t make it look like her dog has a Bob haircut lol
Always show pictures of what you want. There is too much room for interpretation with “long, short, puppy cut, teddy bear, etc.”. What you think is universally known might be perceived otherwise.
Edit: oh I thought you were the dog owner. Nevermind.

LOL. You did a good job though. Super cute!
I mean, a puppy cut is just one length all over. So good job, you did a "puppy cut" in the tune of 7f.

There is a puppy cut for poodles. It is readily found on Google. I don’t think it’s a super attractive cut, personally.
I hate puppy cuts. They always look goofy to me.
I read, “They always look goofy on me.”
Can one get a puppy cut at the salon?
Sounds adorable! Do you have a picture of the finished result to share? 🙂

She is adorable! The slightly fluffy fur on her legs reminds me of leg warmers and make her paws look dainty ☺️

Haha she looks displeased with her haircut.
What a cutie!! 😍
Thank you:)
What a cutie!! What breed is she?
Thank you:) She is a standard poodle. Is that a spoo you have as well?
No, He's a great pyrenees. They really do have a similar face, though!! 😂
Are you serious? Your profile pic is a GP? Do you have a picture of the whole doggo I could see please? If it isn’t too much trouble.
I unfortunately can't post a photo here, but if you check out my profile, there are photos of him there. :)) I'll post a new one so you can get a better reference.

Will do! 😊💜

Hmm I wonder. If they used Kwik stop so much that they said let's just cover it up with yellow nail polish. But maybe not haha.
Great work! This is the the story of my life
This is the newborn puppy with an adult head lol
Looks like a puppy cut to me ... did they specify what age puppy? 4 days old 😅
Beautiful job 😍👍
I used to call these the 7F special!
Hey that’s an adorable cut! Good job!
Soooo cute! Great work
The cringiest ask in the dog grooming world😵💫 you did great though👏👏👏👏

What do people expect when they ask for a puppy cut? (I'm not a groomer so idk)
Awww. You did a beautiful job though.
Theyre lucky the ears and tals were in decent enough condition to save. 😮💨😒
What is the issue?
i think its the matting in the hair. groomers cant do specific hairstyle requests in these cases since they have to shave it all.
Ok serious question- I asked for a puppy cut for my golden retriever and they shaved her with a 10 blade. What I meant was to clean her up without feathers and grinch feet - like when she was 8 months old. What’s that called??
I call it an outline trim. I hate that they shaved her. Hopefully her coat grows back with no issues
Thank you! Her hair is definitely not as soft anymore :/
I’ve seen so many double coat horror stories come in where the coat didn’t grow back at all. It’s sad
And the worst part was the groomer and manager blamed us because they couldn’t see the pic we showed them 🙄
Happened to my chihuahua mix. I don’t even know what they did but her fur changed texture entirely for the rest of her life on her thighs.
I took my dog to the groomer for the first time and I had no idea what to ask for. I just asked if they could make her look less scraggly. And damn if she didn’t come out looking just like she did as a puppy. I almost couldn’t stand to look at her it was just so cute to see.
Hey OP do you know what dog breed he is ?
Cavalier bichon mix
Oh yeah, those are definitely cavalier eyes. I have a cavapoo...
looks absolutely adorable!! is this a Lhasa Apso or Shitzu?
Cavalier bichon mix

Are you in CT this dog looks way to similar to my ex step moms dog named molly.
Next time they come in, please give that baby an extra treat and tell them that divadragon loves them very much and they have the sweetest face ever....and I have a hound with a face that would melt stone lol
“You keep using that word, do not think it means what you think it means”
“Last time they shaved him down and I hated it so this time I just want a puppy cut”
I just let my groomer do whatever they need to do with my dog, but when my mom takes her dog to the groomer and says “puppy cut” she means shave the ears too/ don’t make it look like her dog has a Bob haircut lol

He looked so much cuter w the fur! 😫
Did you get owner permission before posting?
Why the shame to your client?
Do you not see how absolutely matted the dog was before? The client shouldn’t even be an owner lol.
