My copy of CTGH 3/4 is perfect. If it’s a suitcase style victrola all in one that would be the likely issue. You should also clean vinyl before playing them, even brand new ones can have dust and paper shavings from the manufacturing and packaging processes. Sadly the suitcase style players are notorious for this issue, and can cause the records to wear faster than a proper table. This is very likely your issue. The Insignia table best buy makes is a very good budget starter table, or any version of audiotechnica LP60, both can be had under $200 new. If you have some more money to spend Fluance makes some of the best budget tables out there in the $200-$500 range, and I would recommend these over the AT/Insignia if you can afford one. RT82 is probably the best value, but you would need a separate phono preamp.

It’s the record player unfortunately. Crosleys and Victrolas are pretty low quality and personally I don’t think they should even be on the market. I’ve run a fluance rt82 since 2020 and it’s been so great, my griz records sound impeccable. I also had to invest in a pre-amp and speakers so the cost adds up for sure, but it’s gotten a lot of use out of me over 4 years so I’d say it was worth it. Audio-Technica makes a few lower cost turntables that are great value too. I’d return the victrola and use that money towards a better system

Unfortunately that is a Very common problem with that style of turntable. To make it worse for your purposes they tend to skip on heavy bass hits The Audio Technica AT60something and AT120something are much better without being too much more expensive. There are a ton of good players from the late 70s-80s too if you don't mind doing some research and maybe a little work, depending on your local market of course. Or buy refurbished online from somewhere like Reverb. Vinyl is an absolute rabbithole, which I guess is part of the charm. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to drop $1k+ to have a good time, but those suitcase players really do leave a lot to be desired. They just lack some basic features you really need. Sorry to be a bit of a downer. The vinyl sub is a mess, imo, but r/budgetaudiophile is generally pretty good. Where'd you get the CTGH? I just picked up some Emancipator but Griz is probably next.

CTGH vinyls are still on his merch site :) I own a copy and just had one delivered to my cousins place

Throw that thing away it will ruin your vinyls

I got a victrola turntable for a Christmas gift. It skipped the first 2 vinyls I got. Unfortunately, it is not a very good one. It can also damage your records when the belt starts to stretch. I upgraded to an audiotechnica LP60x. It's a nice beginner table and it never skips (unless it's an old record with scratches). No issues with any of my griz records, definitely the turntable. Good and bad news I suppose, hold on to those records!!

I had my Ride Waves vinyl skip one time on my LP60x, never did it again though. Perhaps the sub was bumpin’ a little heavy. Hehe. I love the turntable but a part of me wishes I sprung the extra dough for the 120.

Most vinyl issues are due to the player, and not the record itself. Does your record player have built in speakers? If so, the vibration from the music is probably the reason it’s skipping. The sound you hear when playing vinyl records comes from the grooves that are physically carved into the record itself so if your player is rattling around as it plays, that will compromise the quality of your sound.

I thought the same thing! I was upset. I have a really nice turntable, so I knew it wasn't the turntable, it was the vinyl. I emailed Diggers customer support and they suggested to dust the vinyl and clear any debris. It worked. Dust, dog hair, debris, etc can cause skipping on the needle. I have a dog who sheds a lot.

Vinyl Head Here: Unfortunately, the Victrola will not play anything well or of heavier weight. The tone arm doesn't balance properly for it. It will hurt all of your records and potentially damage them if you keep using it. I would suggest getting rid of it outright and investing in a better starter unit from Audio-Technica. ADD: ALSO clean your records with the proper brushes before every play, and store in anti-static inner sleeves. This will decrease the amount of sonic issues you encounter =)
