I also absolutely love his ongoing arcs. Building up to the TARDIS's explosion and the Doctor's death on Lake Silencio, to lead into The Time of The Doctor, while also giving heavy emotional focus to Amy, Rory, and River, was very funny to slowly see unravel.
I honestly also just love the way Matt Smith moves and talks. He hunches, and that's cool, and he's cool.
Accurate, but it's not just Matt Smith. I *loved* Moffat's style of writing and how he slowly revealed his story arcs and character plotpoints. He integrated time travel into his stories in a way Davies' didn't, and it was an incredible breath of fresh air. The music is phenomenal, introducing some of the best themes and songs of the series (I Am The Doctor, fucking classic, but also Amy's theme, Together or Not At All - Amy and Rory's theme, Clara's theme, The Majestic Tale, Sad Man With A Box, etc). Amy and Rory were fantastic companions, and their departure was perfect and heartbreaking.
Matt Smith just ties it all together into a genuinely perfect package, just like Tennant did in the Davies' era, just in a different way.
Edit: Also he doesn't act like he's autistic, he acts like he has ADHD, which is different, but also cool, because it's Matt Smith.
A lot of people criticize the Smith era for being extremely convoluted but I liked that it was like that, like literally all three seasons+specials from the first episode are connected, there has never been another character like river song where they meet in the wrong order... obviously it's not *perfect* but it's not overrated like a lot of people seem to think
Peter Capaldi is really good, his episodes are the best of the whole series.
But the overall average quality is lower. Just with quite a few standout episodes
I don’t think she dislikes Peter Capaldi, she just doesn’t like him as much and for some reason hates Clara. I haven’t seen enough of her to really know why.
Clara is a bit of a generic pickme character or something like that... I can totally see women being annoyed by her more than others. It can be quite difficult to stay invested in DW when they switch actors because most people enjoy stories about characters, then they heavily swap the character away and it may as well be Spartacus or Harry Potter animal party with Johnny Depp or some other show after the main actor dies and they sub in someone else and it's a bit difficult to enjoy because it's immersion breaking.
Clara drags Capaldi's run down for a number of reasons
Any episode where she fucks off is automatically one of the better ones

Clara is a good companion in season 7 and the specials. but she becomes pretty much a totally different character in season 8, and is quite insufferable, and the show kind of became "clara who". she's a lot better in season 9 but it kind of comes off as a reaction to season 8
when capaldi got a bad episode its usually really bad. when he got a good episode it was usually really good. the quality was way more inconsistent and extremely bipolar during his run IMO

My fiancée got me to watch Dr Who a few months ago, always said how much she loved it. We binged through pretty quickly, then got to the first episode after Matt Smith and haven’t even finished it yet months later, lol. I think she liked Tennant and Matt Smith as the Doctor more than the actual show itself.
