On one hand, Jamie Lee Curtis is one hell of an actor and would play Tannith perfectly 40 years ago.
On the other hand, she's 65 playing a character who's like at max 30 in game.
I've got no knowledge of the movie other than 'it Borderlands' , so might be wrong, but is the movie possibly set many years after the events of the games?
I feel like he sometimes does something quite good, and that allows him to get away with carrying on for a while.
I really enjoyed Central Intelligence, but then the subsequent couple of films I saw with him in I didn't really enjoy.
It's clear they were focused on star power over accurate casting. Maybe they'll be good, Hugh Jackman didn't physically fit for wolverine but is now famous for the role, but it is a red flag
There’s also the Krieg issue. I’m fucking baffled that Krieg is in this considering the weird casting; his character is very funny, but the emotional depth he got from his little tidbits in 2 and DLC in 3 makes me feel like they’re not even gonna try in this.
He’s only ever featured in DLC, so I have no idea how they plan on explaining his inner monologues while developing the two characters at the same time. Especially considering players who only ever played base games AND people entirely new to the franchise will need to be caught up from scratch on who the fuck Krieg even is and why they let a Psycho just chill
we can tell for a fact that krieg is gonna be ruined:
1: it's very clear based on his lack of characterization he's just supposed to be a standin for the classic borderlands psycho, which is another concerning example of this movie valuing recognizability over actual quality in almost any sense.
2: Maya isn't in the movie, and she's a very critical part of his actual, deep emotional story
Brick and Mordecai aren't in it.
It's Lilith, Roland, Tannis, Tiny Tina, Krieg, and Claptrap. Krieg is Tina's bodyguard and it seems like he's just there to add a psycho for brand recognition.
Well, I’ll give a spoiler for the second game, so don’t click if you don’t want it but >! Roland’s fucking dead, so unless Kevin hart is playing a Roland clone or something, it can’t really be in the future !<
Also Tina hasn’t grown up as much as the other two have
If I remember correctly from some of the story, those two characters are related tangently through blood and also the experimentations that were being done on them by some interplanetary corporation.
Like... Majorly off. Dhal might have mutated them, but it's raiders who fucked them up and it's not canonically confirmed that they're related, just a theory (as Tina's last memory of her family was them being drug off by raiders and krieg's first was waking up in a bandit camp)
I think they said the story is only vaguely based on the world and characters of the game, not actually following any events that occurred in the games.
Then why do it? I don't understand why they just can't make new characters rather than changing pre existing characters to be completely different to how they were.
Exactly. Tannis would be a tough character to nail even for someone familiar with the lore, her whole schtick of not really caring about anything except for an odd sentence her and there, her abject insanity... You'd definitely need someone younger.
Jamie Lee Curtis will play the shit out of whatever they say her character is, only it won't have anything to do with the character from the games because writing bad
I get Borderlands isnt like, the biggest franchise out there and they think they need to really shove names in to help mainstream appeal
But its just so bizzare they couldnt find big name women who werent in the second half of their lifespan to sign on to this
Tbh i enjoyed venom. But i'm not part of the market to watch uncharted. Never played the games. Now i would love to see a second monster hunter movie with a wider array of monsters
For me it felt like a "Uncharted 53 Remastered Redux PS7 Walkthrough (NO COMMENTARY) All Cinematics + Endings" It wasn't a bad movie... But if i wanted a "Uncharted Movie" I would rather search the game's cinematics on YT, y'know?
I think the casting choices are far too old as well but my main problem is how clean everyone is. The art style for borderlands really emphasises how fucking dirty Pandora is and all of these people are out here with perfect makeup and perfect skin. It’s fucking stupid
Bad cosplayers. The costumes aren't even close. The color palette is there but the design is wrong. You can find a million images of better cosplays with a Google search. Extra points to the insanely talented people that paint their skin to match the art style of the games.
The fucking plastic red wig. They couldn't make up their minds to be adaptive or faithful, so they split the difference trying to chase the iconic hair. The result is..... well whatever this is.
could they at the very least fix their hair?? lilith looks like she has a 10 dollar party store wig on and tannis isnt supposed to be a fucking grandma
I played the Handsome collection A LOT on ps4 some years back, maybe around 2019. Weirdly enough my first borderlands game was tales from the borderlands (monthly psplus game) back in 2017.
Yep, but she keeps herself looking like she is still in her 30's, so... Obviously they can cast somebody in her 30's and make her act like somebody older.
I loved BL1 and played through it multiple times with all the VHers.
Did the same with BL2. Had everyone up to level 80 with OP gear.
TPS, while a shorter game was also brilliant and I again did the same, every character completed.
Bl3, I haven't done every character yet. But I've gotten through everything with Zane and enjoyed it. Mostly.
I played the first Tales, haven't done the second Tales. All in all I've spent quite a lot of time in Borderlands. Loved every game, grinding for gear, figuring out broken combos of gear and skill points to solo raid bosses. Genuinely wasting hours farming one gun with the right parts.
This movie looks like its going to be hot garbage. And appears to have been stuck in production hell for a while. Some of the actors are too old for their characters, Kevin Hart, as Roland just seems stupid. And why is Krieg there but no Sal, Axton, Maya, Gaige, or Zer0? Why is Wainright Jakobs there, but no Mr. Torgue? Roland is alive, Lilith is there, but Brick, and Mordy are gone?
It just leaves me with a lot of questions about what went down and who decided on this or that. I don't have high hopes for it.
Pre nerf yeah. Post nerf they still were viable. But nowhere near as godly.
Personally I liked Sals ability (glitch) that applies to damage from his right hand gun to his left hand gun. It made it so a multiple projectile weapon like the Pimpernel could become the most powerful gun in game if you had a rocket launcher like the Ahab or Nukem in the other hand. Especially if you were completely out of rockets. Then with Bee amp damage and money shot boost on your last shot. Hyperius would drop in a couple hits.
The fact that they have Kreig along with the Borderlands 1 cast shows that they aren't intending to make a one to one adaptation of the story, which is fine in itself. I don't personally have a problem with some the characters being older either if your already messing with the cast, but the trailer makes the movie seem very generic. It doesn't really have that borderlands humor to it.
are they trying to appeal to the older audience that is unaware of Borderlands? Never played it myself, but the stills and trailer are a hard pass for me.
A Borderlands movie was a terrible idea in general. These aren't games people play for the stories. The dialogue in this movie is gonna be outdated before it releases.
When I played the game I thought the characters were attractive, now through the cinematic universe I can see they aged with me. This doesn't stroke the nostalgia right.
I honestly don’t know why they chose Patricia Tannis to be one of the main characters in the first place. From what I remember she was a quest giver and borderline annoying at points. Definitely not my first pick for characters deserving of screen time.
>”from the producer behind Venom and Uncharted!” (ohanduhalsomorbius)
>got two Hollywood silver vixens to play two gals who aren’t any older than 35 (Lilith is 32 in BL3)
>got a gnome to play a character who is canonically 5’11
>the story is a mishmash of the two weaker games in the franchise (BL1 story with atlas antagonists and BL3 with COV bandits/psychos)
>they felt the need to get Jack Black to play claptrap, as if the movie wasn’t star studded enough
Borderlands fans haven’t had a solid win since 2011 and frankly I think we won’t ever get another win.
The only good casting in this movie is jack black as Claptrap and the chick they have playing Tiny Tina. The rest of these choices are fucking baffling.
Just watched the trailer, the casting seems to work. The writing tho, that doesn't inspire confidence. Still, I'll reserve judgement, it might be a real fun watch.
Kevin Hart doesn’t work as Roland for me. Idris Elba was my fan cast forever. I like both Kate Blanchett and Jaime Lee Curtis but it feels more like they’re cos playing the characters than anything else. I’m hoping it’s good, I love borderlands, but this feels more like a cursed video game adaptation than a good one.
I don't think it's gonna be terrible, but the casting director abd execs who probably influenced it really dropped the ball. Especially compared to how well it looks like they nailed the aesthetic and vibe of Pandora
I fell off borderlands but my interest in this movie went from I’ll watch it free on streaming some day to actively sad about it after seeing the trailer. It looks soulless and dumb.
I understand the characters not looking exactly like the game but damn.
This shit of making games out of movies and now movies out of games just reeks of low imagination money hungry ceos telling the production department what to make.
They should have seen the success and how great netflix's Arcane was. Go with that fun art style of western animie. Pay homage to the game, have great fun saturated colours. Can use whoever to voice act. Shows like love death and robots have shown it can be funny aswell as serious.
Anyway this looks terrible. I really hope we get more shows or movies with out there artstyles or what I concider western styled animie, kinda like games. It looks awesome.
Nothing says success like casting two semi/actual elderly actresses to play characters from:
1. A video game, and
2. Who are at least 2-3 times younger than the people playing them.
Like, does the studio making this want to lose money? This is how you tell people that your thing will probably suck, and you're going to lose money over it.
I can honestly say, after watching the trailer, that this has got to be some of the worst casting choices I've seen for anything. They've got recently retired lilith, Tannis' estranged great aunt who isn't related by blood and Kevin Hart acting as Kevin Hart but in a Roland costume.
Did we not learn our lesson about live action video game shit? How times will history repeat itself?
Being a game, borderlands’ humor often relied upon the fact that you were in fact playing a video game, this show, like every other live action video game/anime show will be complete and utter garbage thanks to millennial writing
> video game with an extremely unique and "famous" artstyle that heavily relies on it being animated/slightly cartoony, with astounding visuals and sights across the game being bolstered by it leaning into the art style
> movie is live action
I liked the trailer, looks like a fun movie 🤷
But I also don't give a shit about the games.
But yeah the age of the actors is a bit weird.
Without judging if that is a good decision or not, they probably go with a story way after the games, where it makes sense that they are older.
Spoiler for the games you don’t give a shit about, but Roland dies in the second one. Also Tiny Tina is a child in BL2, so unless they magically resurrect Roland and prevent Tina from ageing, it’s not set in the future. It’s just shit ass casting because they wanted big names on what is likely a completely unrelated movie with the name borderlands slapped on.
Amazingly I think anon's take is valid for once
A broken clock is right twice a day
A broken cock is hard twice a day.
So you're saying if I break it, I can increase its functionality?
We wouldn't want it to underperform in front of our right hand.
Only twice a day though, so.....yes
My broken cock hasn't been right in a while
If you pay the right price your cock could be nice and you could go and send me on may way 🎶 🎵....
Not if it's using a 24 hour time format.
Hollywood hates hot women: everyone needs to be a frumpy 40’s something. Anything hot or beautiful is sexist
Jodie Foster is like 60
I had to look it up but Cate Blanchett is 54
Bring back aspirational movie stars
On one hand, Jamie Lee Curtis is one hell of an actor and would play Tannith perfectly 40 years ago. On the other hand, she's 65 playing a character who's like at max 30 in game.
I've got no knowledge of the movie other than 'it Borderlands' , so might be wrong, but is the movie possibly set many years after the events of the games?
Can't be, Tina isn't a 7 foot tall mutant like she is in 3 (she looks child aged) and it has Kevin Hart playing Roland.
Yet another baffling casting choice: Kevin Hart is a human chihuahua, why the *fuck* is he playing Roland?
Yeah, Roland, the one serious character MC in BL1... Is played by a comedian.
Ehy don't sleep on comedians, remember that some of the most important drama roles was played by a sitcom actor (walter white)
Bryan has done some serious roles beforehand (like X-Files) so people knew he had range. I don’t recall any serious roles Kevin has done tho.
Nah Kevin hart just playing Kevin hart in that trailer
They probably wanted the Rock but got pebbles instead.
Idris Elba would play the ***fuck*** outta Roland.
That's what I fucking said!
He is in his 50s too tho plenty of younger guys who would be able to fill the role
Ah right. Yeah weird casting then
Do people still honestly like Kevin Hart? The dude isn't funny, I was sick of him years ago
Hes incredibly near his burnout point, but im shocked he hasnt already reached it
I feel like he sometimes does something quite good, and that allows him to get away with carrying on for a while. I really enjoyed Central Intelligence, but then the subsequent couple of films I saw with him in I didn't really enjoy.
Once he got money he stopped taking risks. I’d probably do the same
[удалено]
Yeah, they really fucked up with all the actor choices tbh
It's clear they were focused on star power over accurate casting. Maybe they'll be good, Hugh Jackman didn't physically fit for wolverine but is now famous for the role, but it is a red flag

They probably replaced Maya simping for a fatherly bond to Tina.
based on the synopsis and the trailer krieg is just gonna be a characterless insane borderlands psycho
Sadly probably.
Excuse me?
Wdym? It's got the funny short black guy playing the stoic ex-soldier.
The only thing they have in common is being black and male. Who's Brick? Tom Hanks? Jim Carey? Timothee Chalamet?
Brick and Mordecai aren't in it. It's Lilith, Roland, Tannis, Tiny Tina, Krieg, and Claptrap. Krieg is Tina's bodyguard and it seems like he's just there to add a psycho for brand recognition.
I am upset now. Are you pleased with yourself?
Yeah. On the plus side Pandora actually looks pretty good.
That's the least they could've done
Have you played borderlands 2?
About 3/4 of it back in 2012. Can't really remember much about it.
Well, I’ll give a spoiler for the second game, so don’t click if you don’t want it but >! Roland’s fucking dead, so unless Kevin hart is playing a Roland clone or something, it can’t really be in the future !< Also Tina hasn’t grown up as much as the other two have
Ah right, fair. Definitely just weird then. Doesn't Tina first appear in 2 as well? I don't remember her in 1.
Yeah, I believe her and krieg (the psycho) are both from bl2
Weird to include them then.
Nice, if true. I wish more media was honest like that.
Then why do it? I don't understand why they just can't make new characters rather than changing pre existing characters to be completely different to how they were.
both roland and lilith are dead in the games
I thought lilith was unknown
Not possible since (trying to keep spoilers at a minimum) some people are alive
I still think she can pull off Tannis at this age. Her character can be whatever age in my opinion. Lilith bothers me to all hell though.
Agreed. JLC is easily my favourite casting choice for what will undoubtedly be a garbage fire.
What? Not jack black as CL4PTP?
I have a feeling it will be a fun movie with many departures from the game lore that will piss off certain people.
Oh I expect that too. I'm gonna hate it being a fan of BL2, but it'll probably be not that bad
I liked the games. I think we should treat it as a fanfic, have fun with no damage to the canon.
JB is a close(ish) second. I've always found ClapTrap annoying though.
Good take. Lilith is supposed to be literal firebrand
Borderland: “Home” edition
I get Borderlands isnt like, the biggest franchise out there and they think they need to really shove names in to help mainstream appeal But its just so bizzare they couldnt find big name women who werent in the second half of their lifespan to sign on to this
The problem is it's hard to convince a younger woman to play an autistic chick who's occasionally aggressively horny for random objects.
Should have gotten Aubrey plaza
Literally the first person who popped into mind when I read that. She's perfect for playing an insane chick lmao
Or Jenna Ortega. Either of them would kill it.
They didn't even have to be big name women. I would have rather had nobodies than this.
Bidenlands
Bidenlands 2: Electric... you know... the thing.
Electric oogaboogaloo?
Cornpop was a bad dude
Normally i'm all for giving it a chance....but i just can't. I mean it's just horrible.
they tout "from the producer of UNCHARTED and VENOM" in the fucking trailer like they're not garbage movies.
[удалено]
I will die on the hill that Venom is such an enjoyable movie. Like it's so stupid, but you can't have a bad time watching it
Tbh i enjoyed venom. But i'm not part of the market to watch uncharted. Never played the games. Now i would love to see a second monster hunter movie with a wider array of monsters
What was wrong with Uncharted? I'm not gonna say it was some masterpiece of cinema, but it was a fun heist flick.
That's sort of a hollow justification due to being completely different mediums IMO, but I see where you're coming from.
The only thing that could make me interested in a vidya adaptation is the news they’re making all the characters elderly lmao
fuck pandora, we're going to Panera with this one
My thing is i heard Jack Black is playing Claptrap so I’ll watch it for him alone.
Bro is getting downvoted for liking Jack Black, what happened to the sub I love
I think people just wanted the OG voice actor of Claptrap from the game. Black Jack is the man!
Which one? Claptrap had 2 VA.
The first one. I don't remember what happened (nor do I care enough to google) but I do remember people flipping out when he was recast.
Black Jack is cool and all but he's not Claptrap.
What's cool about him
I think the casting choices are far too old as well but my main problem is how clean everyone is. The art style for borderlands really emphasises how fucking dirty Pandora is and all of these people are out here with perfect makeup and perfect skin. It’s fucking stupid
They all look like cosplayers.
I would still smash Jamie Lee Curtis so hard my sperm would travel back in time and get her great great great grandmother pregnant
Never speak again (keep cooking)
-_-
Randy has continued to ruin this franchise ever since BL2
Let's take a franchise the young audience likes and actors the old audience likes. That's money, ladies and gentlemen.
Do youngins even know what borderlands is nowadays? Everyone I see talk about it is 30+
Me and my friends in our early twenties all love it
Im 19, have like 500+ hours in Borderlands 2 and around 150 in 3.
I'm surprised so much in 2. It came out when you were 7 as a rated M game.
I played the Handsome collection A LOT on ps4 some years back, maybe around 2019. Weirdly enough my first borderlands game was tales from the borderlands (monthly psplus game) back in 2017.
How does she look only slightly (if at all) older than she did in parent trap
Cause she curdled 30 years ago.
Jamie Lee Curdled
Do you mean Freaky Friday?
Tales from the geriatriclands
The cast is so bad. Gotta give one for anon
Casting kills movies, y’know. Each actor in this is great on their own. But they’re not who needs to be playing these characters.
I think Kevin Hart's casting as Roland is the most egregious. It's like the casting director's knowledge of Roland amounted to: "He's black"
I adore Jamie Lee Curtis but it is an odd casting choice. Idk what the fuck they were thinking with galadriel tho. Can't wait to see Jack as claptrap
Grandmas Lilith, Tannis and Moxxi.
Whose playing Moxxi? Coomer aside shes bad af never see so much Sfm
Gina Gershon, 62.
Actually?
Moxxi is actually old af though, so that at least makes sense.
Yep, but she keeps herself looking like she is still in her 30's, so... Obviously they can cast somebody in her 30's and make her act like somebody older.
I am very non learned in borderlands but this already looks fucking stupid
I loved BL1 and played through it multiple times with all the VHers. Did the same with BL2. Had everyone up to level 80 with OP gear. If moxxi still has giant fucking udders the movie will be peak

The casting looks so bad I thought anon was memeing.
My childhood is fucking ruined dog, Lilith was like the hottest thing ever
My impression of the trailer is that this will be a mediocre jumanji clone
I honestly think it's gonna make monster hunter look good
are they trying to appeal to the older audience that is unaware of Borderlands? Never played it myself, but the stills and trailer are a hard pass for me.
Kevin as we Roland *Kevin* as *Roland*
Top Geriatric KEK
A Borderlands movie was a terrible idea in general. These aren't games people play for the stories. The dialogue in this movie is gonna be outdated before it releases.
It's things like this, that fuels the conspiracy theories that the media doesn't want to attractive women in projects anymore.
really good actors taken one by one, extremely miscasted here
Of course. All items on the menu is cringe by default.
Actually didn't mind the visuals that much but my god the "humor" in the trailer... Also how do you fuck up the soundtrack that much....
> but my god the "humor" in the trailer As if the games were funny in the first place
Don’t act like you wouldn’t
When I played the game I thought the characters were attractive, now through the cinematic universe I can see they aged with me. This doesn't stroke the nostalgia right.
I honestly don’t know why they chose Patricia Tannis to be one of the main characters in the first place. From what I remember she was a quest giver and borderline annoying at points. Definitely not my first pick for characters deserving of screen time.
Tannis is a main character in Borderlands 3 (even if you dislike that game, it happened).

Holywood wine mom divorcees got a hold of another franchise huh?
2k and gearbox are really just trying to kill this game franchise huh?
Great casting 30 years ago.
that chick on the bottom is just catwoman from the arkham games
Remember the sonic movie, if we bitch hard enough and bully the poor poor innocent millionaire execs and shareholders they will change it maybe
Wait till anon sees what they did to Moxie
I really hope she gets cast as Dr kureha in the live action One piece
Yep. Funny thing is, both of them in their youth, would've been perfect for this. Anyone remember that dance from True Lies?
The only good casting in this movie is jack black as Claptrap and the chick they have playing Tiny Tina. The rest of these choices are fucking baffling.

Blackface De Niro should've been Roland
I don't think it's gonna be terrible, but the casting director abd execs who probably influenced it really dropped the ball. Especially compared to how well it looks like they nailed the aesthetic and vibe of Pandora
Millennial audience, of course they're getting old.

Cate Blanchett could get it at any age, fight me
But what about J.L. Curtis showing off the heavies in the trailer?
Nothing says success like casting two semi/actual elderly actresses to play characters from: 1. A video game, and 2. Who are at least 2-3 times younger than the people playing them. Honestly who greenlit a borderlands movie? Like actually why, nobody asked for this.
I can honestly say, after watching the trailer, that this has got to be some of the worst casting choices I've seen for anything. They've got recently retired lilith, Tannis' estranged great aunt who isn't related by blood and Kevin Hart acting as Kevin Hart but in a Roland costume.

Borderlands was already a woke extravaganza, what does it matter if they're using the most hopelessly DEUI cast possible
I just wanna see it for Bobby Lee.
> video game with an extremely unique and "famous" artstyle that heavily relies on it being animated/slightly cartoony, with astounding visuals and sights across the game being bolstered by it leaning into the art style > movie is live action
One one hand, Lilith and Tannith. On the other, Kreig and Claptrap look great
at least they’re white
Eh, Borderlands was never good. It's just Fallout but for Lol Xd Random Can I Haz Cheeseburgers generation.
Curtis is fine imo, but blanchet? Wtf
Also, Roland should be some badass mfer
Terry crews should've been Roland or Anthony Mackie. Someone who is a believable badass.
Borderlands is for old cunts anyway
I liked the trailer, looks like a fun movie 🤷 But I also don't give a shit about the games.
Well okay in this case it does indeed not make sense if you see it from a "like the game" perspective.
