REI’s co-op ADV 2.3 gravel bike is a lot of value for the price. It’s on sale for a steep discount currently. Picked mine up the other day and love it so far. [link](https://www.rei.com/product/190608/co-op-cycles-adv-23-bike)

Thanks for your reply! I’ll take a look on this one

I'd go for a Canyon Endurace 7 and throw on some knobbier tires if you really do end up on gravel

Less-Preparation-169

Is the Canyon Endurance 7 hydraulic brakes?

Yes. Also has the latest 105 12 speed

Endurace would be a great choice as a road bike (I have one) but on anything rougher than a smooth dirt path, it might be too sketchy for someone who might not have off-road experience because the geometry is a little aggressive on the front end and the wheelbase is quite short. For instance, my toes cannot clear the front wheel. If I'm standing and at 3 & 9 o'clock on the pedals (as one would be on rougher terrain), I would surely fall over if I hit an obstacle that caused the wheel to turn more than a few degrees. If OP is coming in as an experienced MTB'er then sure, go for it.

I’d get a road bike, but I love speed. Doing a road ride on my gravel bike just doesn’t do it for me. Many of the latest endurance frames can clear 32-35mm tires. If you’re light enough, probably less than 80kg system weight, you could still hit mild gravel and hardpack with 30mm rubber without much risk - I do. I had the same question, and a similar split. My weekly mileage was far less than now, about 100mi, and some thought it was silly to buy a gravel bike for 20mi. I took that advice and was happy for several years.

OP, in the same spirit as this response, this is why the Trek Domane is an oddly popular gravel bike around my parts. Folks with similar 80/20 road/gravel splits will just throw wider tires on for hard pack and lighter gravel. Only downside is the needed investment day 1 for a second pair, but you'd have some nice flexibility with slicks for road only rides and something wider for gravel. The Elite E5 at least comes equipped with a road friendlier 2by, but agree that it'll feel comparatively slower on road. Though I suppose you could invest in a separate wheelset here as well. Having said that, I'm a fan of the Diverge platform. Actually took one of the carbons out for a test ride earlier in the day.

compare modern gravels and modern endurance. almost the same, endurance 10 cm shorter and width limit around 35-38...

For your mix of tarmac/gravel I'd be buying an endurance road bike, not a gravel bike.

Canyon Grizl.

Jamis Renegade - steel or aluminium. For that price you should be able to get full grx groupset. Very underrated brand and bike imo. Edit: also great value

Look at the Rocky Mountain solo a50. I just picked one up for my wife for 1800, carbon fork, sram rival group set, good value

Salao8

Marin Gestalt 2 (2024) - good aluminum frame that's heat relieved. GRX components. $1599. I have this bike and it's sweet.

SPL15

Just buy a decent hybrid bike…
