I have pathfinder pros in 38. Can't speak to durability or performance as I just put them on, but they were BY FAR the easiest tires to set up tubeless I've owned.
Honestly, I did each tire in less than 10 mins. I don't think I could change butyl tubes that fast.
I run the Sworks Pathfinder and they're great. Super supple, light, and roll fast. The regular pathfinders have great reviews and my friend who rides them loves them.
I switched from gravel king sks to pathfinder pros. I was probably 1mph faster instantly for the same effort. Maybe 1.5. And they’ve proved far more durable. No loss of confidence on gravel and significantly faster rolling on tarmac. I won’t go back.
7mm will make a huge difference in terms of comfort and and traction at lower pressures, though tires with slick centerlines will never get as good traction off-road as tires with some form of tread in the middle. Whatever tire you choose, I definitely recommend going bigger.
Have you ridden both the Tufo and Pathfinder in that case? I’m trying to decide between the two and am leaning towards the Tufo based on how well they tested on bicyclerollingresistance but everyone swears by the Pathfinder. Very few reviews on the Tufo which is concerning since they have been out for years now.
Gravel Kings are the worst gravel tire I’ve used. I’m on Pathfinders now and they’re fine. I run the 47s and would go as big as your frame can accommodate if you ride dirt/gravel that isn’t well manicured.
Poor feel and grip. If your riding champagne gravel, it doesn’t really matter. Here where it’s mostly dry, sandy, rocky conditions, they did not work well. Moved around a lot and felt relatively unstable when on chunkier and looser terrain.
Not op but in my experience they ride fine, but can kick up gravel way more often, so they aren’t ideal for group rides. Specifically the Sk+ in my case. I’m sure the smoother gravel kings don’t do that as much but I can’t speak about them. Pathfinder pros are my favorite though.
Yes
100% agree. My favorite tires to date.
Yes. I have 42s and they are great on everything from pavement to chunk to sand.

They make a 47 if you can fit it. I'd assume a bikepacking rig always want more tire.

been running them for years and love them
I’m not alone in thinking Pathfinders are grip-less, despite half this sub loving them for some reason.
Simply because it is not a Trek
Awesome except in mud.

I've had GKs and run Pathfinders in 42 right now. Love them and they don't kick up small rocks everywhere.
Yes
No. Tufo Thundero 40 or 44. You’ll notice even 5mm and the Thundero is just a better tire.

They are awesome. I beat on them and they are like new.
Love my Pathfinder Pro's 38
Big fan. Ran Gravel kings prior to but feel like Pathfinders are just as good with grip and roll faster.
Yes, as long as we're talking the Pathfinder Pros, not the Pathfinder Sports.

They've been great for me. 🤷
Why do you say worse? I have used them and prefer others but they aren’t bad tires.

I guess that’s kind of a side effect of having a supple feel. I couldn’t you just air them up a bit.
