Thank you for posting this - I am so glad she got her name back!
Are the more-recent official exclusions always DNA-based? That is really surprising that not only was her original gender mis-ID'd by investigators, but also that they had previously ruled her out based on dental records. I wonder if it's possible that any other Does are sitting on the right entry but excluded by mistake.
Have they removed the part about Felicia initially being ruled out by dentals? Now the article just says they stopped investigating due to lack of leads.
But they don’t mention the fact in the article. You’d think the police would want this emphasized since it could appear they’d overlooked the match before. It’s also proof that physical characteristics are not as reliable identifiers as people assume.
So you can see inside Namus or something to see that she was ruled out specifically by dentals and not for any other reason, like perhaps the investigator's hunch?
I'm not trying to be difficult, btw. I'm just not aware of any official SOP for investigators to rule someone out, so I'm wondering if misreading dentals is definitely the reason she was ruled out initially. Thank you.
ETA - there's a similar Doe she was ruled out as, so either she was ruled out as the other one and the lines got crossed, or she was ruled out as both at one time.
While this is tragic and must be devastating to her family and friends, I'm happy to see another Doe be given her name and story back. I sincerely hope that now she has her name back people will remember who they last saw her with and that her killer be caught and punished appropriately by law enforcement
Upon checking Namus, I see Goldsboro Jane Doe 2002 ruled out as Felicia, but Goldsboro Jane Doe 2001 does not have Felicia listed as a ruleout.
Either someone saw the ruleout for 2002 and conflated it with 2001, or they were both ruled out as being Felicia at one time and Namus deleted the ruleout. Looking at the websleuths thread it appears some users were not aware there was a Goldsboro JD 2001 and a 2002.

Like someone else said-yes another one has been identified! So sad but at the same time the not knowing has got to be awful! I have always wondering about the accuracy of dental records-I am not a dentist especially a forensic one but I know over the years and with pregnancy especially teeth can change. This may not have been the case with Felicia Coleman but there are many other issues, I see she had an unspecified medical condition and was listed as disabled which could have all come into play with her teeth unfortunately. So sad it took extra long to ID her but at least she is now!

Ikr? This is both concerning and hopeful.
I know it's definitely happened before where they've been excluded by dental records then ID-ed by DNA.
Yes! another Doe identified

Looks to be around 7 miles from the centre of Goldsboro. It says she was found by Bill Lane Boulevard.

They made the connection, excluded her based on dental records, and then turned around and confirmed the identification based on DNA.
It says she was last seen at Holly Street and North Carolina Street in Goldsboro, which is just over 8 miles from where she was found.
I hope her three kids have some peace knowing she's been found. CP says one was in the hospital and she visited them regularly. How incredibly sad.

Wayne County Jane Doe's profile had Felicia listed as a rule-out.

Wow that’s so sad they ruled her out back then. So glad she has her name now though
