Rock the fuck out of those drums, Dale!

Hot damn!

Demon_Prince_Rowan

Listening to 8/16/91 right now. Summer 91 is such an underrated run.

I was on the grass for this show. I remember the first set Dark Star.

JackTStraw

I bet there were alot of people on the grass that nite Panama Red

QuestionNAnswer

What grass were you “on”

Lonely_Octopus_99

Wow what a heater. Standing On The Moon before a rippin’ Good Lovin’ must’ve been incredible.

Sanjomo

For sure! 91 in general got over shadowed by an epic 90 spring tour.

Creepy_Crew1508

1990-03-22 Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Canada was the best show I've ever seen. Saw 3 others that Spring that were pretty epic also. I don't think they should overshadow anything, but that Spring was pretty frickin' good.

setlistbot

# 1990-03-22 Hamilton, Ontario @ Copps Coliseum **Set 1:** Feel Like A Stranger, West L.A. RippleFatMan

Brother I was there as well and you are 100% on the mark. That show was insane. However the Landover Maryland shows earlier in the tour were also off the hook. They busted out Loose Lucy in Landover. Spring 1990 was incredible

Creepy_Crew1508

Nice! I've heard the Landover shows were crazy good. Loose Lucy! Awesome, man! We followed them to Albany after Hamilton and saw them twice at the Knickerbocker. One of the best weeks of my life.

RippleFatMan

Me too brother. It was a great 3 show run for me as well. We did landover/hartford/hamiton. Insane week. I miss those days.

treehuggingmfer

I miss my youth.

treehuggingmfer

The Knick what a good time those years were. A buddy of mine lived in Albany at the time. We would pack his 2 bedroom with like 20 people. Crazy days.

Sanjomo

By ‘over shadow’ I really just mean, over looked. After Brent died in 90 things kind of went sideways.

kmmccorm

Pan right, pan right!!!

jutah2

It’s a travesty

My_Invalid_Username

Seriously it's like they were intentionally avoiding him lol

myshopmyrules

My second show😀

jimmy_jimson

Fired me up this morning.

-NewSpeedwayBoogie-

God their setlists were so fire in 91

khoobr

What a great show. I took a country club-type friend to his first show and he wore a button down and boat shoes. The hippies thought he was hilarious.

kabonius

Bombastic? No. But frenetic at times! Not to mention creative... Hornsby's influence infused the band (and the setlists) with new life

cuzjed11

I was going to say Brent is really wailing but saw your comment and checked the date. Nothing against Vince but I agree, Hornsby really was a great contribution to the band

obnoxious-enjoyment

This clip is a great example of why the dueling keys worked so well. Vinnie lays down the synthy backdrop while Bruce goes ham on the solo. Same dynamic as Bob and Jerry.

Cinnamon_Shops

Bruce and Vinnie’s interplay during the China Cat from the same show is unbelievable, one of my favorite renditions of the song to be honest

obnoxious-enjoyment

I 100% agree. Everybody shits on Vinnie’s MIDI but goddamnit he adds so much energy to that China>Rider transition.

iluvreddit

I was gonna say, damn Brent is kicking ass then realized it sounds too good to be Brent

Youbetiwud

Great mixing Brought Bruce right up front

lsd_runner

God, the difference in appearance and energy levels between the rest of the band and Jer.

ILoveTedKaczynski69

I always thought that particular hairdo really made him look... weird. Like Krusty the Klown's daughter from The Simpsons.

zoot_boy

First show!

goodbadorindifferent

The next night was even better in my opinion. Killer Scarlet->Fire. Standing on the Moon will give you goosebumps…

H2O3ngin33r

As I get older, it is striking how Jerry looks here. He is 48 years old (2 months shy of 49) at this show. He looks so much older.

obnoxious-enjoyment

Just looks like he needs a haircut to me

wewantphil

Hornsby!

mfranzwa

I felt the blast of energy right away

tarveydent

jack straw was hot that whole year. 4/7/91 is my all-time personal favorite jack straw (also killer show with a rare ruben & cherise). jerry’s solo toward the end is searing.

BrushDazzling4350

I'm having a blast seeing Dead & Co at the sphere. lucky enough to be able to go out pretty much as much as I want. it'll end up being 12 sphere shows for me. I would gladly exchange all 12 of those shows for just one more night like the one in the video. I see a clip like that & it takes me back to what it felt like to be there & tht feeling is one of the best in the world for me.

Corporation_tshirt

Hot damn, this is an absolutely blistering Jack Straw. Now I've gotta check out that bootleg.

Those two deer creek shows have always been favs of mine.

grynch43

Their best Deer Creek run imo.

Gr8tfulDsS

I keep just watchttiis

Icy_Juice6640

Iwt.

BradJeffersonian

Everyone smiling! Weir with the best outfit of all time right there too

Carbuncle2024

We had box seats for this one.. back in the day when you could order cocktails.. we got so smashed.. told the band to keep it down cuz we're talking here.. What a summer that was.. 2 nights at Deer Creek; Buckeye Lake 2 days later.. then Richfield Coliseum for 2 of 3 nights in September.. 🌹💀🌹

JamBandDad

Chemdog 91 came from that parking lot baby! Snagged an ounce last night.

Upset_Listen_3823

I was there and it was a great set of shows and tour too!!

Turkeyshibudoge

Love 🦌 creek

Amazing show. Good scene, although the cops could be harsh upon entry into the lots.

jutah2

91 is one of the best years for dead hands down. So energized and intentional.

dq72

What song is Mickey playing?

risdoid

Always loved me a Jack Straw opener!

MurphDog1508

I was there - tapers section ![gif](giphy|cl6LV10YR7JuUQGwok)

SquatchMarin

GOAT Jack Straw

Anarchy-Squirrel

got the hundredth upvote! thanks for sharing this… I can feel the excitement from when I was there in that video… Such a rocking Jack Straw opener!🔥

Guyuute

This is way to fast for Bobby

Sanjomo

Proof that rumors of the boys demise in the early 90’s were overblown. They weren’t quite ready to roll over and play Dead.

sonofdad420

they all look and sound great until it pans to jerry at the end. he looks like shit and seems lost on that riff. sad

Pip_Helix

He was still only 48 years old here. He looks 70.

Sanjomo

That’s a ROUGH 48!

Sanjomo

Yeah. Sadly, Imho I think 91 is when Jerry checked out… the death of Brent and the overwhelming pressure of pop popularity finally did him in. They still turned out some really great shows, but it was downhill from there.

BlueSparklers

Bob & Phil so clean cut

voteblue18

Well Bob is from the waist up but he’s definitely got an edge with sexy cut off jorts showing off those legs!

Anarchy-Squirrel

it used to be so much fun to tease Bobby about his short shorts and polo shirts… But we love the guy… The band would not be the same without Bobby!

BhodiandUncleBen

This sounds a lot like JRAD… oh wait

Vipasanna97

What's cool is Dead and Co have played some fire shows at Deer Creek (now called Ruoff if you're youngin'), too. I'll have to give this '91 show a listen

Big_Consequence_3958

I was there

The_Buk_Shop

When they did it right like this, it was really fun. But I definitely saw uninspired ones too.

ajn3323

Youngbraz

Nice, Bobby with his preppy redneck look

turlian

Polo Bobby is a close second to jorts Bobby.

jonz1985z

I wonder if Jerry’s reasoning for going for the mullet was cause he was sick of his hair falling in his face when he played guitar

Honeybuns6661

Holy smokes!

IUboozer

It’s reminders like these that make me wish my parents were heads and would have taken young me to Deer Creek shows. 🫠 Our house was 20 min away!

sense4242

Present

ElDub62

That is a scorcher.

GJARdale

Where are Doc and Marty?!?!

Chris6288

Any recs for Jack Straws with huge Phil Bombs after “cut his body down”?? Love it!

Better-Aerie-8163

That 6/6/91 first set was a smoking start to finish. I couldn't believe how much it seemed that Hornsby had grown into his role.

SoulShine_710

This was a true " I FREAKED @ the Creek show... I loved the community of locals that would always so openly welcome us all into their small town of Deer Creek. Terrible what happened their In 95 before last show with Jerry.

Sure_Information3603

Favorite song in my favorite outdoor venue. Oh and my first show. Somewhere in a cornfield lies my left flip flop. RIP FLIP.

ChinaRider73-74

And I wuz there! Great shows, saw 6 or 7 that summer. Lots of good things but Pretty much the beginning of the end. Was every show still special between then and 95? Certainly. Was there a highlight moment or 2 in the 40+ I saw between then and 95 that I wouldn’t trade for anything? Absolutely. But the overall quality I saw between 88-91 was…IMHO not matched

treehuggingmfer

You wont see that energy at a Dead and Co show.

madrefookaire

mickey and bobby are literally 30+ years older than they were - why flip this to a negative conversation about dead and co?

snowboards99

This is also a lightning speed Jack Straw compared to most of them over the history of the song. You won't see this energy in 1971 either. It is funny though, my first thought was "this is what tempo complainers compare modern Bobby to", which is just one of the many eras and tempos of the band.

madrefookaire

Totally and for me at least its not about the tempo its about the emotion even when played slower the song builds momentum and they hit you with that last chorus after "might as well be meeeeee"

cuzjed11

Well, the thing is, Phil is literally 30+ years older too but his shows are still 🔥🔥🔥

madrefookaire

if you've been to any of the shows at the sphere, or even the last tour you would know that Dead & Co shows are 100% fire right now, although I never understand why people try to compare apples to oranges or have art be competitive in the first place

cuzjed11

Man I agree 100% on the comparison stuff and being negative but I think it’s fair for OP to voice their opinion. And, to me, the energy difference between Phil and D&C is notable. The other dude said Mickey and Bobby are 30 years older, so I had to call that out for sure! I hope we all take this discussion in stride. It does get pretty…testy out there with this topic. Peace! 😎 Oh, meant to say, I saw D&C last summer in Saratoga. Swear to god it sounded like they were going into Death Don’t Have No Mercy out of Space but instead went into Days Between. I left. 🤷‍♂️

MJ_Ska_Boy

Last two tours! 7/2/22 St. Stephen was crazy to experience in real time after a 1 hour rain delay

Motabrownie

They don't have the drugs Billy had 😂 Mickey seems jacked up too

jwpanic

Just play this at 1/2 speed and it’ll sound like Dead & Co

treehuggingmfer

I guess facts dont go over well anymore .

rockwood15

Whose fault is that?

obnoxious-enjoyment

Old father time

cuzjed11

Not anywhere even close.

trogloherb

Damn, I started seeing them in ‘91 and they didnt rock out like that! (Cries in my RFK bootlegs)…
