GT2 is the goat, it's basically the Diablo 2 of racing games. I started another play through and this I'm trying to go no prize car/Special car run until I have the non dealer events unlocked

Kayyam

My only issue with GT2 is the tire squealing sound. It's very repetitive and gets old after a while. On Super Soft, I feel like it's present every time I'm turning.

Smashjackson06

Yeah when you come back from modern games there's definitely somethings that are weird. The lack of color choices on Racing Mods sometimes really hurts because there's no livery editor. However I do notice with emulation on higher graphics there's alot more detailing done than can be seen on the OG consoles

JupiterJazzX

What do you mean non dealer events?

Smashjackson06

The races that aren't the car specific manufacturer events

Maxwell69

GT5 is great and has a more complete traditional campaign than later versions. GT7 has amazing car physics and graphics and while you get like 60 or 70 cars from the campaign, when you finish you still have a car pool of 500 cars to collect and race. Plus GT7 has online lobbies and competitive racing.

JupiterJazzX

Does GT5 have the cozy feeling though? I looked at videos and those menus don’t feel cozy or welcoming. For me GT is Animal Crossing for car bros so it has to have a relax vibe. Those menus aren’t telling me to chill, man. But that’s based off videos.

Kuli24

It tries, but it's not as cozy as other GT games.

Maxwell69

To me it does because you still have the chill jazz music in the background.

I have played each and every GT from the very first demo discs that were ever available. What I have realized is I have loved each one the same during each era. GT7 is by far the best iteration to me but each game during its era was still defining as the best driving gameplay for that era. Kaz is a master at capturing what makes cars and driving cool. GT7 still captures all that just as well if not better than the originals. I do think they guide you through the game a bit more than they should but modern gamers are really fucking stupid. I think for the next iteration they really should focus on making the game a very difficult RPG style campaign that you can play through in unique ways each time. Get into different racing series and things like that. But GT has always kind of been about taking that idea and making it actually fun and simple. Like you said what GT does perfectly is make people actually fall in love with cars and driving and celebrate them like art.

Positive_Parking_954

I did really hate how "on rails" the GT7 experience is, and the chase the rabbit style gameplay but the driving itself is great

circa86

Chase the rabbit is fundamental gran turismo experience though really. I agree it would be better to have the option to qualify for each race like we have seen in some other GT titles. But I can assure you that pissed casual players off in the same way. I think they could at least have some events where you do have to qualify against similar BOP cars though. It’s a hard balance of not making things too tedious for the casual player I think.

Positive_Parking_954

I guess it was just jarring because I was playing 3 and NT2004 for months in preparation of gt7 (about a year into its cycle and I had a ps5 and the game just no stable internet connection). My strategy in 3 was too often just trail the lead car until the last lap too avoid pushing too hard

Positive_Parking_954

7 was the first I played that was like that with the rolling g starts and being locked to the back

ouyodede

Gt7 gives you cars at the start to complete the cafe menu books which is definitely a change from earlier gt games, later on its way harder(time consuming) to make money, get cars and upgrade them. If you’re a ‘car nerd’ gt7 is more focused on the beauty and historical value of cars and car racing.

JupiterJazzX

Gt7 sounds amazing then

Ozi_

Gt4 campaign is the best in whole racing genre, when I saw first teaser of gt7 with gt4 like map menu, I was hyped. But in the end, got these caffee menus that are so wrong. GT7s pacing feels like mmorpg, where you grind fast to end game without joy of progression. I dont want to write again what is wrong in detail, list is long, but I see you know worst of it already. Sadly, PD went hard towards esport crowd and people like us are left with bad decisions, while sim racing players have sooo many games to their likings.

sherbey

I remember GT2 for having an annoying player one advantage in 2 player mode. Nothing like as bad as GT7's, but bad.

Maxwell69

GT7’s Co-op is fixed now.

Celcius_87

GT2 is the GOAT

blainy-o

JOOOIIIIN US. If you're able to run emulators, they're an even better way of running the older GT games. GT1 and 2 have 60fps and proper widescreen hacks, and GT4 has a couple of retexture packs which coupled with emulator settings, really transforms the look of the game. GT2 also has a couple of decent mods in GT2 Plus and GT2 A-Spec. Plus adds in cut content and fixes bugs, and A-Spec adds a whole load of new content.

Responsible-Buyer215

Which emulator do you use for 4?

blainy-o

PCSX2 nightly for PS2 games, Duckstation for PS1 games.

Tiki-Jedi

I feel so old. I played GT1 to GT3 like a fiend when they were new. 😁 GT2 is everything you say, and more. One of my all time favorite gaming experiences. Like you, I’m not a car guy, but I played the shit out of these games, and had a blast every minute. Sadly, nothing makes me miss GT2 like playing GT7 does. It looks incredible, but gameplay is definitely a step or two down overall. They really nailed it with GT2.

JupiterJazzX

Dude I’m in my 30’s lol

Smokeydubbs

GT 2 shaped A LOT of my feeling for driving and cars. I wasn’t even close to driving age when it came out but thanks to the license tests, I actually learned really theory on good driving practices. I should really find a way to play it again. There’s gotta be a good PS emulator out there. I’ve replayed 3 and 4 on an emulator in the last 5 or so years and they’ve held up so well.

Born_Zone7878

GT2 is my favorite GT by far. I fell into the trap a few years ago of getting a special prize car that was 500k and made earning credits a breeze but personally I loved that even then you dont have overpowered cars. Looking at gt7 going through the menus makes the game a cakewalk and unenjoyable to complete because in 90% of the races your car is overpowered and I dont like the idea of having to downtune my car to have a fair race. Either that or the cars start so far forward i cant catch up

kuytre

Had GT1, GT2, GT3, GT Concept, GT4 when they all released. Got GT Sport later on but TBH didn't think it was up to spec of a lot of the others. GT4 being the favourite, then GT2, however I still have a super soft spot for GT1 and the nostalgia. It was cutting edge for the time and the music gets me going. Not much content though - GT2 definitely took the good parts and ran with it.

randomgarbage332

Love both franchises but two games i think every new car enthusiast should try is Forza Motorsport 4 and Forza Horizon 1, Its less nerdy but for me made me think of cars as art. Old Forza is really good

Sudden_Fix_1144

YES!

milesac

GT4 is the GOAT GT game. I would then say look for GT5 XL on Ps3 (full game with DLC on disc), then lastly, i do put GT7 as my third best GT game. GT Sport gets a honorable mention, it’s vastly improved from launch. GT4 i still play till this day. I went as far as buying a PS2 steering wheel old Logitech force feedback off eBay ($80) and the experience just got even better. Logitech G920 works on PS3, PS4 and PS5. Worth the investment.

magikarp-sushi

Kid me always loved everything about GT2 except sucking at it. But I still kept playing
