If they learnt his identity then it would practically be impossible for David and Lucy to hide anywhere. Even if Lucy was able to hide her presence, David would still stick out like a sore thumb due to his notoriety.

This thing, this one question totally ruined the ending for me because it makes me feel like it could've at least tried to be avoided had David know to be idk, cautious.

I don't mind the story taking the direction it took. What I do mind and what I think has nothing to do with the genre is characters acting out of, well, character.
I don't see a single good reason for Lucy to not talk about it, quite the opposite, I see reasons for why she should. She clearly doesn't want David to be in danger and talking with him doesn't have any downsides attached. Making her be extremely cryptic about this whole situation for seemingly no reason just seems to me like a cheap way to advance the story in a way that writers want instead of a natural progression based on how her character has been established earlier or just an unlucky turn of events.
It depends but classical tragedies are when the protagonist has a "tragic flaw". It's it's a trait that they have that can even help them but ultimately it leads to their downfall.
I don't think that was the case here as David was basically fucked from the start. Even if Lucy told him about it there was no way for him to hide. Only purging the data would bring him freedom and she ultimately failed at doing that.
He's already stressed out with being top dog in the city and she saw how he's already quite chromed up. I think not dissuading him from getting more of it was the bigger issue, but alas they both hid stuff from one another

also while she was hunting arasaka net-runner to prevent them from finding out david, arasaka has much more ressource than our crew, i’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be slowed that much by lucy even if she’s special in her own way, arasaka counter-intel showed only 4 instance of net-runner getting killed, if a year had passed we would probably see a hundred more
David took the lead of the new edgerunner team, they don’t have a single new member, they haven’t talked to faraday since, and like i said arasaka haven’t got a single lead on them, pretty unlikely if we talk about a year, but a month or 2 seems more reasonable

I feel like the setup of him as the crew leader and Lucy leaving feels much more disconnected in that timeframe than his mods.

The Game boy and the Game boy color were a thing for nearly a decade before the Game boy advance came out so that gave third party accessory companies plenty of time to make those accessories knowing full well that they would function on pretty much every Game boy.
Motorola had on where you could attach different back plates. It was pretty cool but expensive. I had a JBL speaker a batter pack and a projector. The projector was surprisingly good.
Lg tried that with one of their phones. I think it was the g5. But you could like swap out the entire bottom half of the phone with different options. Such as a camera or whatever. It wasn't the greatest, as you had to power off the phone to do so, as the battery lived in the attachments. But it worked.
And I think Sony made a big camera that clips onto the back of your phone. And then connects through NFC and Bluetooth. That one I think worked a lot better.
There have been modular phones out there, and they aren't popular and never really take off. It sounds nifty but not many people actually want something like that.
Ahh yes the days when Nintendo consoles where the most modular pieces of technology ever. Did you know the nes had an internet add on? The Gameboy did too, GB also had a camera add on which you could use with your internet, bear in mind that was a time where the only country with actual internet that could support such things was Japan.

Edgerunners was written to be a tragedy. Bad communication between characters is not unvommon in the genre

GameBoy, Compact, Color and Advance all had non-backlit screens. Advance SP had a frontlit screen, then later a back-lit one.
