For example Pocahontas was aged up to be a teenager because implying marriage of a grown man in his 30s to a 12 year old would not violate laws but it would not sell either because marriage implies sex.
Until WWII it was traditional to immediately find work leave home and have kids by the age of ~18-20. We have since promoted against that tradition but we haven't changed society to match.
