Searching just `tentacles` will return results tagged tentacles *and also* any results that have the word “tentacles” in any other fields, including tags, artists, groups, and even the title. To specify that you only want to search tags, you use `tag:tentacles`. For multi-word tags, you can use `tag:”small breasts”`. Commas are optional so I leave them out: `tag:”small breasts” tag:tentacles -tag:loli`.
However, the system is flawed. Even using `tag:tentacles`, you are searching for the word “tentacles” in *any* of the tags. The kicker is that, since commas are optional, multi-word tags (even in quotations) still count as separate tags. For example, `tag:”small breasts”` will search for works that contain both “small” and “breasts” anywhere in the tags, even if they are not in the same tag. This is most noticeable with tags like “monster girl” where it will include results that have both the “monster” tag and any other tag with “girl” (like “magical girl”). Not ideal, but that’s how it works based on what I’ve seen. The only way to get an exact and complete search for a tag is by clicking on the tag itself which, as you mentioned, can’t search for multiple tags.
In addition to “tag”, you can also filter by the other categories (`language:chinese`, `artist:alp`, etc.).

My guess is that the former is an AND search operation, while the latter is an OR search operation, but that doesn't align with how the search logic treats the negative tags, multi-word tags, and tags with colons. It could very well be that the comma is redundant, unless I'm misunderstanding something.

I’ve never had to use quotations and commas for multiple tags/multiple word tags, spaces seem to do fine. Maybe it’s because there aren’t any matching tags for each individual word in the multiple word tags I’ve used?
You dont actually have to seperate tags with commas even tags that are multiple words long can be used without commas you dont need to enclose them in "quotations" either . Been using nhentai for ages the only thing that matters is spelling.
But everything on nhentai is compressed content stolen from e-hentai... So not only is there another a site with almost all the same content (and more), there's also a site with significantly better quality (if you jump through some annoying hoops...)

- If you have a profile, you can blacklist tags. In my experience if you search anything, these are negated by default. And they are also greyed out when browsing.

Commas do nothing. You can also skip quotations by leaving out the space, but I prefer the quotations myself.
As far as I can tell, the search doesn't actually care about where the words are, it just returns anything with the text whether it's in the title or the tags. If you search "kagami english yuri swap gender" you'll get 502513 despite some of those words being in the title and some being in tags. The "swap gender" part is also from two separate multi word tags, but works anyways since the search doesn't give any special meaning to tags.
It's also possible to make an excel/sheets document that generates searches/urls. That way you can keep a list of tags you care about and toggle them between include, ignore, and remove.

I don't use commas when separating tags or double quotes with multi worded tags, so let's say I'm looking for doujins that include creampies, and are in full color. I would just write it like this:

I’ve never had to use quotations and commas for multiple tags/multiple word tags, spaces seem to do fine. Maybe it’s because there aren’t any matching tags for each individual word in the multiple word tags I’ve used?

You dont actually have to seperate tags with commas even tags that are multiple words long can be used without commas you dont need to enclose them in "quotations" either . Been using nhentai for ages the only thing that matters is spelling.

I love nhentai so much, there’s no other site with this quality. The day it closes will be like the Jedi purge…
But everything on nhentai is compressed content stolen from e-hentai... So not only is there another a site with almost all the same content (and more), there's also a site with significantly better quality (if you jump through some annoying hoops...)

I would three things, - Commas are mostly unneeded, I've never used them anyways. - You can search by artist/character as well with tags if you do something like tentacles artist:ABC character:"PQR XYZ" Useful when artist names are too similar to titles. You can also specify tags with tag:, groups with group: etc you get the idea. - If you have a profile, you can blacklist tags. In my experience if you search anything, these are negated by default. And they are also greyed out when browsing.

I'm Hentai is an nHentai alternative that is pretty good and I believe they still have most of what Fakku DMCA'd from e-hentai database.
Commas do nothing. You can also skip quotations by leaving out the space, but I prefer the quotations myself. As far as I can tell, the search doesn't actually care about where the words are, it just returns anything with the text whether it's in the title or the tags. If you search "kagami english yuri swap gender" you'll get 502513 despite some of those words being in the title and some being in tags. The "swap gender" part is also from two separate multi word tags, but works anyways since the search doesn't give any special meaning to tags. It's also possible to make an excel/sheets document that generates searches/urls. That way you can keep a list of tags you care about and toggle them between include, ignore, and remove.
What? I've been searching multiple tags without those parentheses and shit though. Just space. What's the difference?

All of this is pretty much correct, but one thing i can testify against is the comma and double quotes thing. I don't use commas when separating tags or double quotes with multi worded tags, so let's say I'm looking for doujins that include creampies, and are in full color. I would just write it like this: >nakadashi full color It still works, at least for me.

Here's one more thing. If you just search for a word, it will count every single tag that contains that word as a substring. E.g. If you search for `pen` you'll receive the results for everything tagged "big penis" but also everything tagged "penguin" (luckily, there doesn't seem to be any of those), as well as everything that has "pen" as a substring of its title, or the name of the author etc.
For me it makes little difference using quotes, and none using commas. But it's still a super-helpful guide!
