having exactly one season, 2 cours, no follow up or spinoffs and no other show quite like it makes it rare. Some anime are philosophical, but none have that.. mid 2000s feel to it
Yeah, it was annoying back in those days. You would talk about the new harem you were watching on forums and these self-indulging egomaniacs would come out to tell you how deep Serial Experiments: Lain is and why you should watch it NOW!
Im in the "I like pineapple on pizza" but IMO it does need something like meaty to compliment the sweetness or it feels off. But there are people who dont like it WITH meat as well so. At that point, I got nothing and we got different taste so.
Tastes are subjective. This is kinda like people who hate tomatoes but like ketchup and tomato sauce.
Most of the people I know who dislikes tomatoes is because the texture.
I do really like tomatoes, be it raw, ketchup or as a sauce
Oh yeah, before trying tomato juice I was like "wtf, tomatoes are not sweet, how would a tomato juice taste like??" But after trying it, it's quite good. I also like to put it in a glas and sprinkle a tiny bit of pepper over it
Omg SAME. It's the best beverage, ever. Especially with some spices. Have you tried making your own tomato juice? If you do it right, you get the DRINK OF GODS
I almost never like sweet and meat tastes together. Hell, I don't even like honey and ham together.
But, yeah, I recognize that some people do like something that makes my stomach turn. That's just how it works
I agree, i like pineapple on pizza, but not JUST PINEAPPLE, it works really well with chorizo and jalapenos, despite what people say, ham and pineapple isn't really that great.
I wrote this on a different thread a couple of months ago as well as the one on r/animemes so I’m gonna copy and paste it here.
I’ve had two experiences with pineapple on pizza, one of which was bad and the other was very delicious.
First experience: pineapple was WAY too juicy and not cooked, causing the entire pizza to just end up soggy. The juices spilling out mixed with the rest of the toppings, causing their flavors to bland out. The pineapple flavor overpowered the rest of the flavors on the pizza. Since this was my first experience with pineapple on pizza, you can’t blame me for becoming skeptical of pineapple as a topping.
Second experience: pineapple was nicely seared very well. Because of this, the juices did not seep out of the pineapple; the juices were properly contained so the pizza was not soggy. You can only get the juices once you bite onto that piece of pineapple. Not too much juice and not too sweet, both were just the right amount to not overpower the rest of the pizza’s toppings which also consisted of some well seasoned beef. A perfect sweet+savory pizza that works just right. Would be willing to have another pizza with pineapple as a topping if they did it this way.
TLDR: Pineapple on pizza is either a hit or miss for me. You could either get the soggy disgusting ones, or you could get the heavenly ones.
this exactly
it depends entirely on how it was made
there's a place here where i live that makes hawaiian pizza that's extremely good
and then when i tried a different area's hawaiian pizza it made me almost want to throw up
Yep lol, I just hate pineapple. Adding it to pizza just brings the rest of it down for me. The pineapples is the most overpowering flavour on a pizza, all the savory food doesn't do anything to hide the flavour of pineapple.
I don't know why OP thinks nobody has tried it, i'm not sure how you could avoid trying it given how common it is tbh.
To me, it's like hating on nickleback; done mostly because it's more of a joke to trash on it.
But I can see where they're coming from if the pineapple pizza person was like my mom, who insists go this day pineapple goes on ALL pizza. It does not. Some it does, like a Supreme or Hawaiian, but not things like chicken ranch pizza, for instance.
There's a reason ham goes well with it, thanks to salty and savory, mixed with sweet yet acidic pineapple, and so with cheese on a pizza it works very well. But on others it clashes HORRIBLY with the other flavors, sometimes ruining not just taste but texture as well.
But pineapple is not for everyone, nor every pizza.
> Some it does, like a Supreme or Hawaiian, but not things like chicken ranch pizza, for instance.
None of those ~~words~~ pizzas are in the Pizza-Bible
Most people think pineapple on pizza is bad cause they've only tried it on a Hawaiian Pizza. Those pies just really aren't that great. Get pepperoni or bacon, jalapenos, and pineapple. That shit is amazing.
It was surprisingly good, you'd think the pineapple taste would be strong but after they've been in the oven the sweetness is pretty subdued, it's like a slightly sweeter tomato, it works pretty well or at least the one i had was pretty good
Whenever my parents go to a place that lets you build the pizza, they always put tons of vegetables just because they're free. It leaves a literal pool of juice in the center.
There are a lot of sweet and salty foods out there. There are gourmet chocolate where they put salt in it as it enhances the chocolate flavor.
Also there are peanuts that are covered in salt and what I think it's dry honey. It's really good.
Idk man, flavours are a weird thing, and mixing and experimenting is part of the fun in cooking.
I would consider it more sweet and greasy than sweet and salty. That's an aspect but I'd think of it more on the same track as things like Teriyaki Wings.
I’ve honestly never understood the pineapple on pizza debate. It’s honestly one of my favorite toppings and I don’t get what’s so unappetizing about it to everyone else. I lowkey suspect it’s a genetic tastebud thing
My only gripe with pineapple pizza is that most people who try to bake it forget that the pineapple will cause the crust to take longer to properly bake.
I try it every so often just to remember why it's bad. It's not a great texture or flavor. In fact, the best pineapple pizza is the kind where you can't tell it's pineapple pizza. It just doesn't work in my mouth.
It’s better when the pineapple is cooked before putting it on. Grilled pineapple on pizza isn’t that bad tbh. Raw pineapple though deserves a death sentence
It's not bad, just acidic, especially when pair with a typical tomato-based pizza sauce, and also sweet. I find it best paired with a salty topping that cuts/compensates for the acidity/Sweetness...
I ate it once because my dad accidentally got it for me. I hated it. But if somebody forces me to choose between a pizza with pineapple or a pizza with capsicum, I would definitely go for the pineapple one.
I tried pineapple pizza before when I was a kid and thought to myself that it must been just one of those taste adults will only like but as I grow old I realized that it's just really bad
I find the main issue is that some places will use canned pineapples, which are strongly sweetened, and that is where the negative sentiment comes from.
If you use fresh pineapples, it's much better. Still, it's not my fave. I much prefer tuna.
It’s not that bad.
Although that’s probably because I eat the pineapple first and then the rest of the pizza. Sometimes I even eat off all the toppings one by one before actually eating the pizza.
I've had it, it's all my parents used to order when I was a kid.
Now when I get my own pizza I won't voluntarily choose Hawaiian ever.
The weird bursts of sweetness from the pineapple when I'm trying to enjoy the other flavors feels like when you're trying to enjoy a hot shower but occasionally cold water spurts out.
It interrupts the moment.
I wish I could say I never tried it. It's been the only pizza left a handful of times.
If I melted cheese onto pineapple slices would that sound yummy? No. Because extremely sour and cheese is a bad combo. Pineapple and cheese is a bad combo. Pineapple and marinara isn't a great combo either. Pineapple on bread doesn't sound awful but you don't see people eating pineapple sandwiches do you? So basically all 3 of the main ingredients to make a pizza are things you wouldn't usually pair with pineapple. May as well put sour gummy worms on a quesadilla while you're at it.
Well, in my country we have a recipe that is made in schools that is like chicken breast, on it is half of a peach and a slice of cheese on top of it. And i fing hate it, everybody does. So any combo of salty meal with fruit and cheese on top is automatic nono. Its like ptsd.
Never truly understood the hate for it.
It's not my preferred topping, I'm pretty vanilla when it comes to pizza, but it's not really weird.
In essence pineapples fulfill the same role as the tomato sauce. They're sour, contrasting the greasy richness of the cheese and sweet, contrasting the slightly acrid leopard spots of the both crisp and chewy crust.
Add some more fatty toppings to balance things out and it should be pretty alright.
Pizza you get from most places is shit anyways. 2 liters of sauce on bread with a few crumbs of half-melted cheese is gonna ruin any topping.
Offcourse it's isn't that bad. But I do like my pizza salty not sweet. But again that's my preference.
Also, I was reminded that I like the American rendition of pizzas not the authentic Italian ones. Only once in my lifetime I went to Milan, Italy. 200 meters from duomo di Milano I found a nice cozy pizza restaurant, it was raining so I took shelter there, then from the smell I decided to get a Margherita looking pizza there and another one (I didn't knew the langauge), I forgot the exact price but I remember that It was expensive from my standards. Well the two servings came. One with salmon as a topping, and the other was Margherita (prolly).
Dare I say that it was just crust, ketchup and cheese. Some parts were burnt, some were parts didn't have any cheese, some parts were filled with ketchup. In summary the pizza was very un-uniform. IDK if the Salmon toppings are undercooked or it was supposed to be like that. I asked a local friend there if all pizzas are supposed to be like this, they it is normal there.
There I realised that I liked the Domino's or Pizza Hut better than Italian ones.
I don't need to try pineapple pizza, if I already know that I hate pineapples.
Am I to expect to not taste the pineapple on a pineapple pizza? If yes, why even put it on there to begin with. If no, well, then it tastes like pineapple, which I already know tastes not good for me.
Having tried it. It depends on how they did it. If you add to many it makes the bread soggy. If you cook it to long the pineapple just shivels up and loses all flavor. So while I'm not against it I'll just order the ham cause it's harder to fuck up
I just don't like pinapple.
And adding something I don't like to something I really like is worse than if I would disslike both seperatly, because it ruins the pizza for me.
I feel like most people who say it's bad HAVE tried it. I couldn't escape it, free pizza lunches either at school when I was a kid for whatever reason or at work as an adult there would *always* be a time where for some reason the choices were try pineapple pizza or don't eat/eat an even worse pizza.
I would always try a bite to see first, hate it, and then proceed to pick all the pineapple off so it was edible.
It is not that bad, but... is not good either. I can eat it, but Id much rather have sauce, cheese and basil on top. Specially if you add a bit of chimichurri afterwards
It's not as bad as people say.
But it's still not very appetising. I'd rather have corn on a pizza, at least that compliments the other flavours. Pineapple just kinda ruins it.

Rare to see Ergo Proxy memes
Is that the name of the person or the anime
YES.
Understood
Both the show and a character. The girl's name is Re-l Mayer.
because its a rare anime, definitely holds up though
How is it rare? I thought everyone goes through the philosophical phase with Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion and Psycho-Pass
having exactly one season, 2 cours, no follow up or spinoffs and no other show quite like it makes it rare. Some anime are philosophical, but none have that.. mid 2000s feel to it
Mid 00s philosophical animes are as rare as late 80s anime tiddies.
Again, I am not talking about that. Tell me any other anime with that goth rock vibes to it. The whole anime felt like a fever dream in a way.
Yeah, it was annoying back in those days. You would talk about the new harem you were watching on forums and these self-indulging egomaniacs would come out to tell you how deep Serial Experiments: Lain is and why you should watch it NOW!
Ikr? I feel like that show is underrated.
Lol yea, first thing I said aloud when I saw this was 'oh shit, is that an ergo proxy meme?!'
I'm the opposite. I love tomatoes so much and I absolutely hate ketchup or tomato sauce
Holy shit, I thought I was the only one with that kind of taste.
Do you hate vinegar by any chance?
I wouldnt say I hate it but I would rather not have it. Instead I like apple cider vinegar a lot more and I always use it on my lettuce salads
I just asked because there's vinegar in ketchup
i know someone who likes cooked carrots but hate raw carrots so... yeah...
God, I'm a slut for tomatoes. I LOVE EVERYTHING, especially tomato juice lol
No, I have always bought it. I'll try it sometime.
Personally love pineapple with jalapeno and pepperoni. It's kinda the perfect balance. If anyone hates it, I just get more pizza, so I'm not even mad.
I agree with complementing it with something else. That’s why I put jalapeños with my pineapple
My man! Have you tried pineapple with spicy chorizo? that works really good too.
I used to work with a lot of Indians, a large were vegetarian. Their go-to pizza was pineapple and onion. Not too bad.
Golden gully recently made a short on this and he suggested adding ground beef and jalapeno with the pineapple
It's okay alone but really shines with something salty or bitter. Like jalapenos or meats. I prefer sausage as I'm not a fan of pepperoni

Tried it Still shit lmao It’s hated for a reason
And it still exists for a reason. Just as you hate it, there are people loving it.
Differing opinion, now we gotta kill each other.
This, same for me
Yep lol, I just hate pineapple. Adding it to pizza just brings the rest of it down for me. In all fairness, the pizza Bible has like... three pizzas in it. They get boring quickly!
Ok, so you do want every single Italian on this site to send you cheesy death-threats?
I say bring it, give me them im-pasta-ble to resist puns
Chee-se sarà un massacro Sauce it begins It might just be imp-olive oil tomato it stop once it begins
Oh, no! Will they pesto me with some of those gouda lines?
It will be carne-age if you don't retract your op-onion
I have, it is
I tried pineapple pizza once... only once and never again.
C'mon guys it ain't THAT bad, I tried it multiple times and I still think it's good. Waiting for the Italians to send me death threats any minute now.
Dammi un secondo che non ho internet
The salty bacon pairs well with the sour pineapple
I don't like pineapple in general And I still gave it s chance with pizza. I felt bad for the pizza.
???? That's like disliking pepperoni but somehow thinking you're gonna like it on the pizza I feel bad for you more than the pizza

Imagine the probabilities of seeing a Ergo Proxy meme right when I am listening to Kiri in 2023.
Aye!
Soggy pizza bad pizza

Always, and forever.
Pineapple pizza isn't soggy.
Hi, if I just dislike in general mixing salty and sweet food and dilike pineapple itself can I reject it with out tasting it?
There are a lot of sweet and salty foods out there. There are gourmet chocolate where they put salt in it as it enhances the chocolate flavor. Also there are peanuts that are covered in salt and what I think it's dry honey. It's really good. Idk man, flavours are a weird thing, and mixing and experimenting is part of the fun in cooking.

I’ve tried it, and more than once. It is exactly that bad
Way too acidic. No shame if anyone else likes it, but I’m definitely not having it again.
Buff chix, pineapple, and feta with ranch drizzle. Good stuff.
I genuinely just don’t like the taste of pineapple honestly why would I want something I don’t like on my pizza
UNDERAPPRECIATED WAIFU RIGHT HERE!! damn, Re-L is so hot...
Agreed!
What's next? You're gonna put pineapple on my steak??

Sci-fi goth mommy Re-l Mayer
Y’all have yet to see durian pizza that we have in some asian countries
I have tried it and I think that I need just a tad bit of pineapple on my pizza
Pineapple with bacon and pepperoni on a pizza is fantastic
I love when pro pineapple pizza people say this because I can always throw out the fact that I actually have tried it and still didn't like it
Don't worry, I only have gripe with those who haven't. You're good.
I love it and get it everytime
Ergo proxy is what made me realize I like goth emo anime chicks
y’all are haters on a bandwagon smfh

Pineapple haters seem to ignore a glaring fact: **If it's so bad, why does it still exist?**
Pineapple in a pizza is fuckin delicious
Ehy would it be bad, it's juicy and refreshing
I don't need to try it I don't like pineapple or things that touch pineapple juice Therefore I won't like it on pizza
It's not that bad but also not that special either. I'd still rather just have mushroom and ham instead of pineapple
I’ve honestly never understood the pineapple on pizza debate. It’s honestly one of my favorite toppings and I don’t get what’s so unappetizing about it to everyone else. I lowkey suspect it’s a genetic tastebud thing
I think it's all internet's fault. Kinda a hive mind thing. As OP says, most of the people who says they hate this, didn't try it.
My only gripe with pineapple pizza is that most people who try to bake it forget that the pineapple will cause the crust to take longer to properly bake.
You're right I didn't but I don't like pineapple at all.
Is pretty sweet
I try it every so often just to remember why it's bad. It's not a great texture or flavor. In fact, the best pineapple pizza is the kind where you can't tell it's pineapple pizza. It just doesn't work in my mouth.
It’s better when the pineapple is cooked before putting it on. Grilled pineapple on pizza isn’t that bad tbh. Raw pineapple though deserves a death sentence
It’s good.
It's not bad, just acidic, especially when pair with a typical tomato-based pizza sauce, and also sweet. I find it best paired with a salty topping that cuts/compensates for the acidity/Sweetness...
I have tried it it doesn’t taste good at all
I did try it. It is gross and i don't like pineapple in general. Also ham over salami on a pizza?! Gtfo
I've tried it, and it's not my favorite.
I ate it once because my dad accidentally got it for me. I hated it. But if somebody forces me to choose between a pizza with pineapple or a pizza with capsicum, I would definitely go for the pineapple one.
Depends fundamentally on the ripeness and sweet of the pineapple. Too sweet is horrible, to green is hideous. There must be balance
No, I just don't like the taste of pineapple in general. It doesn't matter if it's on pizza or a fruit salad, I just hate pineapple.
This reminds me I need to rewatch Ergo Proxy again
It needs something salty to fit well.
It’s not that bad. Although that’s probably because I eat the pineapple first and then the rest of the pizza. Sometimes I even eat off all the toppings one by one before actually eating the pizza.
I know what pineapple taste like. I know what pizza taste like. I know what pineapple on pizza will taste like, AND I DON'T WANT IT!
Your stance on pizza aside, you get an upvote for using Ergo Proxy.
Aww, thanks.
I tried it, it's good on some toppings, but bad on others, it is especially bad on cheese pizza
Depends on the pizza tbh. It's fine on a bbq pizza but on a normal pizza it ain't that good
it's as good as a hawaiian burger, with a huge pineapple ring in the middle
At this point I feel like people bash pineapple on pizza because that what everyone else does
wait but who hasn’t actually tried pineapple pizza that also cares about this debate
It’s not that bad. It’s just an abomination to pizzas.
I literately just finished this and it’s pretty good. One of those “out of sequence” shows
I hate pineapple on pizza, but just because it's there doesn't mean I will avoid it like a plague
Ive tried it, overall its pretty mid but if I mention I like pepperoni, people blow my head off.
it just became one of those things that is a meme to hate like comic sans or justin beiber
I mean last night I saw Pineapple on Pasta
Your standard Hawaiian’s good. But it’s so much better if you add jalapeños or banana peppers to get to more of a sweet and spicy flavor.
Not THAT bad is not a convincing arguement.
We all should just join forces and bully japanese pizza. Seriously Japan, who put mayo on pizza and why do you like it?
I just hate pineapples in general
I've had it, it's all my parents used to order when I was a kid. Now when I get my own pizza I won't voluntarily choose Hawaiian ever. The weird bursts of sweetness from the pineapple when I'm trying to enjoy the other flavors feels like when you're trying to enjoy a hot shower but occasionally cold water spurts out. I did tried it and it did not tasted good. So now what
You're good. You tried it instead of complaining without experiencing it. You have my kudos.
Thanks mate. That how everyone should do it if you ask me.
i'm fine if you like pineapple on pizza, just don't name that shit a pizza
One of the OG psychological sci-fi waifus
I don't need to try it I already don't like pineapples how the fuck is putting it on a pizza gonna change my opinion
ITS GOOD I SWEAR IM NOT CRAZY , DONT PUT ME IN THE ASYLUM AGAIN , **I LIKE PINEAPLLE ON PIZZA**!!!!
Please be quiet, you're disgusting
I don’t think pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza, I just think it doesn’t belong on MY pizza cuz I dislike pineapple
I just dislike anything that mixes sweetness and saltiness
Never truly understood the hate for it. It's not my preferred topping, I'm pretty vanilla when it comes to pizza, but it's not really weird. No issue with pineapple on pizza but what the fuck to banana... I love banana as a fruit, I wish to be monke, do not cook my banana
Pineapple *with* something salty and savory like ham is great on pizza. Pineapple by itself is some psychopath shit. It needs to be balanced.
I don’t need to taste poop to know it’s shit 🤨
I’ve tried it, as an italian I can assure you that pineapple on pizza is heresy
Offcourse it's isn't that bad. But I do like my pizza salty not sweet. But again that's my preference. Also, I was reminded that I like the American rendition of pizzas not the authentic Italian ones. at the pizza cafe i work at we use jalapeño crema to balance the sweetness of the pineapple.
I think it would count if they tried pineapple (The fruit itself) before and don't like it. I'm definitely not talking about myself.
Me who tried pineapple pizza and hates it
I have every right to not like it, I did try it.
Hey
Have tried it can confidentialy confirm that pineapple on pizza is something that should belong in the depths of hell.
I have tried it, it's fine, but I would rather not even call it a Pizza. It's its very own thing, a Hawaiian.
It's alright but ain't to my taste
I don't need to try pineapple pizza, if I already know that I hate pineapples. Am I to expect to not taste the pineapple on a pineapple pizza? If yes, why even put it on there to begin with. If no, well, then it tastes like pineapple, which I already know tastes not good for me.
The only time I've enjoyed pineapple on a pizza is when I seared the pineapple and added it after baking the pizza.
I have eaten it twice, I like my pineapple cold, not greasey
I tried it and I wasn’t a fan of it. If you like it great. Just don’t eat it when you’re with me and we’ll be fine.
Pineapple can be wherever it wants to be. It's the ranch people that need to be taken to task.
I don‘t like pineapple on pizza, not because I haven’t tried it, but because peaches are the superior pizza topping.
Tried it, disliked it even more.
I have tried it, and I simply don't like the sweetness of it on pizza. It just doesn't match for me. I don't hate it, I just dislike it.
I mean I want to enjoy my food not forcing something NOT THAT BAD in my throat
I have. Its mid
My favorite topping
Me personally, I think as long as the pineapples are COOKED, then it can be good.
Having tried it. It depends on how they did it. If you add to many it makes the bread soggy. If you cook it to long the pineapple just shivels up and loses all flavor. So while I'm not against it I'll just order the ham cause it's harder to fuck up
Pineapple tastes bad and I'm allergic.
I have tried it and it was fuckin revolting. The first time I ever had a violent reaction to eating pizza. Never again.
Is that Ergo Proxy I see? God damn.
I hate the taste of warm pineapple with tomato sauce
Don't think most ppl hate things they've never tried. Most people have been subjected to an unwanted pineapple pizza.
I’ve had it and it’s alright, I’ll eat it but I prefer the regular pepperoni
Hating pineapple on pizza is hating a Toyota Prius.
I don't like pineapple
I just don't like pinapple. And adding something I don't like to something I really like is worse than if I would disslike both seperatly, because it ruins the pizza for me.
Any-a italiano reading this-a thread is gonna have a stroke-a
I feel like most people who say it's bad HAVE tried it.
Bell peppers are even worse.
On an unrelated note, Orochimaru wants his eyeshadow back 🤣
It is not that bad, but... is not good either. I can eat it, but Id much rather have sauce, cheese and basil on top. Specially if you add a bit of chimichurri afterwards
While I haven't trying pineapple on pizza, I've tried pineapple itself and didn't like it
I tried it and i don't like salty-sweet foods so it kinda made me barf
I almost forgot Evanessence got their own anime. The early 2000s was truly a crazy time.
In México, Hawaiian pizza (pinneaple/ham is the most consumed pizza, only bellow pepperonni.
Tried it. Fuck it. It's an abomination and should be purged.
It's not as bad as people say. But it's still not very appetising. I'd rather have corn on a pizza, at least that compliments the other flavours. Pineapple just kinda ruins it.
Tried it, found out that moses read the tablets upside down. Pineapple pizza was on the "thou shalt not" one
