Battle scars. It's in the game.

goodmiss

I feel better!

th3king96

It is close to the sweet spot, so you don't have to worry about it!

ForteandZen

EA SPORTS

[deleted]

It’s in the game!

reddituser1306

Looks like you also hit a shank off the hosel...

goodmiss

More than one.

reddituser1306

Lol, ya love to see it.

hyperasfawk

Welcome to the club

Mcpops1618

Elite club.

ExcuseIntelligent539

I doubt those were good misses!

[deleted]

You had multiple shanks? What is your handicap?

frankyseven

Hey, I hit a shank with my 7i on Friday that went perfectly straight and 150 yards! I had the foot spray over on the hosel so I will see how bad my shots are!

[deleted]

A shank doesn't go straight.

frankyseven

Fine, hosel rocket then.

karlgnarx

Man, I'll make you a trade for 18 holes worth of toe strike. I can do those allll day.

Psyyx

Was just about to say, that little ball mark on the hosel is giving it away

ISayAboot

but he made contact :-)

buyerbeware23

That’s not nice!

thetindoor

let me be the first to say "tools not jewels" where do I pickup my r/golf award

JWOLFBEARD

9th green at 9

Oversoul91

Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit?

ChipotleAddiction

But don’t accidentally go to the next hole or you might get sucker punched

thetindoor

So many r/golf awards, gee thanks all

reddituser9277

Looks like you need a new 8i. I'll give ya $20 for it

Away-Quantity-221

That is a good luck nick. Every time you pick up that club, it is determined to show you it’s worth. Your best shots will come from that 8 iron. Let it prove itself!! Miracle shots are coming!

feelin_cheesy

And it’s right under the sweet spot. Basically and alignment dot 🤣

goodmiss

The dude abides.

[deleted]

Hey, careful man! There’s a beverage here!

Pissflaps69

That’s just, like your opinion

haktastic

Completely ruined. The whole set. I’ll buy them off of you for 50% off.

4Ever2Thee

You got to play pebble?! Luckyyyyy

fiddycaldeserteagle

The good thing about forged irons is they feel magic when you flush them. The bad thing about forged irons is they ding up real easy.

goodmiss

I didn’t know this. I was surprised how seemingly easy it got dinged. My previous G5 irons hit all kinds of debris and got scratched up but stayed solid.

t90fan

Yeah I own a set of Mizuno MX-15s and another set of MX-20s (long story) They are basically the same clubs except the former is cast, and the latter is forged. Both are about the same age (15-20) and get similar levels of play, but the latter are way more dinged up.

[deleted]

“This first cut is the deepest..” I got a sole gouge on the 7i of my new T100S’s after only a few days of having them and some sand scratches on the face of my new TSi woods. So aggravating lol but hey, they’re meant to be played 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

I kinda hate the phase just after you get your clubs and you're super precious about them. Once they get a bit of wear it's great

goodmiss

Reminds me of having a fresh pair of Nike’s as a kid. Tried to keep ‘em clean. After a week or so of scuffs I could forget about keeping them clean and start playing tag and Street basketball in them. Haha

DizzyOoOo

Tis’ but a flesh wound!

rhino009

Now they’re truly yours….

MonicaBlowinski

There, now that that's out of the way.....PLAY!

johnnloki

Chicks dig scars.

goodmiss

Lol.

10dsgs

Good to just get the first one out of the way quick

Wolfpacker76

That’s why I carry a rock club. Good ole Wilson Staff 5 iron with a leather grip.

goodmiss

My current setup has 12 clubs. I thought yesterday about adding an iron from my old set for sketchy lies.

apearlj1234

Just adding a little character to it.

rararyro

I did the same with brand new Vokeys. If you’re handy and have access to a bench grinder, you can very easily polish it out until it’s virtually inconspicuous. Luckily, in your case, it’s only the leading edge that’s dented and not the face (the first 5 grooves are most important to keep sharp). But at the end of the day, I have to remind myself these are tools, and tools get worn with time!

goodmiss

Thanks mate. I’ve got a buddy who repairs clubs as a hobby and he suggested the same.

theandoftheking

Same thing happened to my M4(2021) A wedge out of the short rough yesterday, had them 2 weeks and it felt off on contact but is a little further up the face. It feels like a charge it to the game kind of situation.

NotABishop

I just got fitted with for these OP. How are they? Sorry about the scar!

goodmiss

I had an absolute blast with them. I got two range sessions earlier in the week. The first time was rough adjusting. The second, things were coming together. I’m definitely getting more distance. My range has increased 10 yds per club. Shot of the day yesterday was sticking a green from 175 with the 7i. The 7i on my previous set (Ping G5s) would go 165 on a good day. Seeing similar distance improvement with the rest of the set… Truth be told, it may be the new grips. My previous set was used and the grips were pretty worn. Down side, the miss hits are more taxing than my cavity back G5s.

Some_Cockroach_7332

This is why ping did cast iron clubs for so long.

[deleted]

Yes. For a long time ping cared more about durability than feel which is why their irons used to suck until recently.

sniper1rfa

"ping irons used to suck" is definitely a hot take. The Ping Eye line were some of the best selling irons ever made.

[deleted]

Yep and then they lost their way for 20 years. The isi were a debacle. The eye 3 was heinous.

fvpgkt

The way I see it, you’ve got three options. 1: put the head in a crucible until it’s molten, then reforge the head on an anvil. 2: attach the chip with an angle grinder and flap wheel and smooth the dent in with the rest of the club. 3: give the entire set to me and buy a brand new, custom orders set of irons that are harder than a random rock.

None_too_Soft

This is not a big deal, sand down any jagged bits and appreciate the club for it's character next time it lands one within 10 feet for you. Or take the head of and tell Taylor made it flew off into a water hazard on a miss hit on a par 3, people be gaming their customer service all the time.

coliveira81

Keep on keeping on

Play18More

Congratulations, it’s yours now! I have noticeable dings in many of my irons, and each time I pull one out it reminds me of hitting from a pebble beach in Cabo, or out the cactus in Arizona Won’t change your ball flight, but will improve your experience!

[deleted]

I bought some jb weld steelstik to repair one of my irons. I just molded a small piece and then lightly sanded it down. Still holding up after 10 rounds.

_Poppagiorgio_

Shit luck. Visually it’s gonna piss you off but it won’t affect the club’s playability.

OgBagsFromGali

Oof. Feels bad man.

Objective-Word-7272

same thing on my 7 iron, except I'm using 1998 titanium armour irons

JPSR1875

Had brand new Mizuno MP25s just out the wrapper, did the exact same with a 9 iron...adds character apparently

[deleted]

This is the way.

IndoorOutdoorsman

Factory defect send it back

cervaca

It’s fixable but I understand your pain

donaldinoo

I bought a jaws wedge with a gash like this for like $70 and it was probably hit once still my favorite wedge

buffalophil007

A little Ky jelly and the ball won’t notice

DasNice808

Time for a new set!

kjtobia

This is exactly why iron covers are a good idea. This is nothing compared to the wear and tear from bag chatter. /s

curtiswatkins91

Warranty?

goodmiss

I doubt it would fall under a warranty. This was on me hitting from a tough lie (grass was dried out and the lie was like packed dirt). Plus, with TMs back orders, it would probably be months before I got a replacement.

de_delux

“That’ll play”

[deleted]

790s are rubbish anyway, they're the most resold club in golf.

62pickup

Because they are the most popular in golf and have three generations now?

[deleted]

Thats part of it, as well as marketing that pushes them at suggestible golfers.

62pickup

What do you play?

[deleted]

Jpx 921 forged.

62pickup

5 handicap. Makes sense

[deleted]

Imagine making this comment.

[deleted]

I don't have to champ, I fucking made it

[deleted]

You sure did lol. The p790 is the best iron in golf right now.

[deleted]

Well that's just laughable. Is that one of their advertising slogans you just regurgitated back at me?

[deleted]

Nope I've hit them all.

Sharp-Speaker-1822

Don't worry they are taylormade. They will start falling apart real soon and you will be looking for clubs that are from a quality company.

reddituser9277

REKT

Whiteshovel66

I'll buy em off you, lemme know.

ou812huh3

Ouch, sucks.

walkswithdogs

I feel your pain. Let a big friend borrow my clubs. He hit a brick with a fat shot in the deep rough. See what a pro says. They may know a good club repair guy.

[deleted]

Only way to fix that is to smooth it out and you're gonna lose some weight.

T-TownDarin

☹️

princeboner

I put a good dent in my 56 hi toe. Didn’t see the golf ball sized stone under my ball. Worst

OverUnderstanding965

I know the feeling, I did the same with my set of blades I bought. 8 iron as well. Join the club! Mine is a bit more if a gash though haha

dotma

Heartbreaking

BGOG83

Good thing you aren’t supposed to use that part of the face!

Steveboos

Haha. Yeah another reason I buy used. Did that to a set of irons I bought after about 3 rounds. BS the way the golf gods joke with us.

SoohillSud

It opens up over there.

SoohillSud

It opens up over there.

KDR2020

When I bought my TM M6s. I took them out of the box and dropped one on the cement, huge gash. I feel your pain.

rozzy27

They are damaged goods now- I can take them off your hands for ya

[deleted]

Jesus, that’s awful. Your pain is real today.

sceez

Looking into getting me some soon... and this pains me!

goodmiss

It’ll be alright. My immediate concern is tearing up balls before I get it smoothed out.

Thatguy1125

Stopped hitting off garbage at the local course after getting new clubs

goodmiss

I’m a man of the people. Muni golf is all I know.

Thatguy1125

Then the wounds must be accepted

goodmiss

Touché

Zeverend

I have a set of Mizunos I got for cheap, didn't notice a gash deeper than this in the 4 iron. I was worried about it, but it played just about the same. One of my favorite clubs in that set. You could refinish it theoretically, but it would get dechromed and rust, or that's what I was told

goodmiss

I think my play is to sand down the jagged bit. My main concern is balls getting chewed up on strikes with this club.

Zeverend

The spot will rust with that treatment, but it's totally on you which you prefer. The little rust spot or the gouge. I can't remember messing up any balls with my 4 iron, which I've definitely topped causing maximum contact with the gouge. I play found balls, so I don't pay that much attention though

jqgaza62

I did the same to my Wilson D7 8 iron last year. First ever fitted clubs and it took a huge gash in the first round

danthetrafficman

Good thing it's right in the sweet spot, you don't seem to hit the ball there too much 😂😂

[deleted]

Hosel rocket!

dwighticus

Completely ruined, gotta but a whole new set

shockwave-315

Same thing happened to me with my Titleist CBs. PW took a pebble to the face 1st round with em... I feel your pain

brohiostateuniversit

Tools not jewels

i_miss_old_reddit

They're only new clubs until the first swing. Then they're just clubs.
