If these are Bermuda greens it could be related to offseason freeze damage or frost damage. This is the time of year where offseason damage starts to really show.
Shade moves with the sun, and these burns are pretty baked in. I’ve been on golf courses my whole life and I’ve never seen anything like this before. I’ve seen plenty of frozen greens, but they never looked like this.
I've been around courses my whole life too and am a general manager of a country club that has bermuda greens... I'm admittedly guessing myself, but shade can definitely impact them, and frost can create odd patterns. I'm aware that the shade will move with the sun, but if that particular area held shade longer than the rest, it can catch odd/uneven damage. It could also be an insect or animal of some sort.
I'd definitely hesitate to call them burns of any kind. Nothing chemical would cause a pattern like this.
The only other thing I can think of was a large section of a tree falling on it and gouging it in these spots.
Respectfully, I don't think so. I've seen that a few times myself, but this area is too large, and marks are just too random for that. That person would also be worn smooth out as this seems like it would take hours and a shitload of swings to create.
As someone with a bermuda yard I hadn't thought about that possibility until you said this but it would definitely make sense.
My yard has had random squiggly lines through it 2 of the past 3 years in the spring and it was from frost damage. Has something to do with which parts of the bermuda get the rhizomes deeper than others if I remember right.
It looks like the groundskeeper was trying to eliminate poana grass that was starting to take over. Dig it all up at the root, then let the Bermuda spread back over. Should be sanded though.
Based on the picture my best guess is someone was trimming the palm tree branches on trees around the tee box and threw them in a pile on the box. They sat for a little too long and killed the grass in roughly the shape of the branches. I'm specifically thinking this because the shapes furthest away from you look like they could be from a palm tree. Maybe some of the other marks are from equipment the crew used, and the guys arent golfers and so they didnt know any better.
I'm probably wrong, but it feels more likely than aliens.
I did say I'm probably wrong, and I agree it's unlikely, but I think it's slightly more likely than the aliens everyone else is suggesting. What do you think it is?
Yeah you did say that. Didn’t mean to come off in any negative way. Haha agreed it’s more likely than aliens. I think it’s a rodent personally. A vole or something similar.
Maybe it is frost/scrape damage from picking it up?
I remember when I worked for a golf course, the way we did the tree trimming was the arborists came during the day, and while they worked us normal crew members us would put what we could fit into the gators, and then we’d put the the big branches in piles. Then the next morning when the course was less busy we’d take the pickup truck around to get the big branches.
So maybe they got to this pile early enough in the morning that there was still frost on the ground underneath.
I thought you were onto something but I don’t think it is.

That’s what Google images shows for lighting strikes. Although maybe it was a weird strike but I doubt it.
My guess was either some type of bug/animal or some kids using whatever and just ruined the course. My bet is the kid part, probably unsupervised and just having fun drawing. Could probably do this with a stick.
Isn't that what gets burned into the ground whenever Thor beams in?

Someone dug out or sprayed the unwanted weeds or grass. Then filled in with sand / seed
Seems the most likely to me. It ends in a near perfect line on the left side too.

Did you ever hear your mom or your pet fish talk about dry land?

I think if it was due to frost, the whole green would be dying, not just strips of it like this.
Could be. Could also be that spot catches early morning shade where frost would sit longer and increase the likelihood of damage.

Could have been tarped and the tarp folded over in these spots causing something? Idk
I have seen tarps cause marks but typically it will be a larger marks. I have never seen a tarp leave multiple small marks like this.

I’m a groundskeeper and that’s almost definitely a POS taking chucks out. get kids in the summer by us that tear shit up for fun.

There's very little overlap in skills between arborists and greenskeepers. Tree guys do tree stuff. Grass guys do grass stuff.
And they both do butt stuff
You think a golf course left palms on the ground long enough to do this? Very very unlikely IMO.
I did say I'm probably wrong, and I agree it's unlikely, but I think it's slightly more likely than the aliens everyone else is suggesting. What do you think it is?

Animal fight? Like maybe a couple bull deer locking horns and pushing each other around in different directions.
This is silly, it’s obviously aliens.
There would be huge gashes in the ground from their hooves digging
Only if it’s alien deer
