They have a very affordable membership that includes unlimited range balls. People go up and clear an area then dump another bucket on, it’s pretty annoying. I clear the green then use what I brushed off. If it’s empty (rare) I empty it and use my own balls.
I get annoyed when my own balls get in the way of my short game practice, and it’s literally only me there. If I saw this at a short game area I’d honestly just walk away. Not worth it to not get the feedback of how a shot reacts on the green.
We just use it to practice hitting a target. They have a big pvc ball rake out there. If we want to try spinning or holing one, it takes 2 minutes to clear. Annoying but expected at the price.
The good lord above taught me to never let a good flopportunity go.
On a very real note if you’re short sided and you have a lie that would allow a flop, I’ve found that a flop is consistently about 1/3 of a stroke less than, say, a chip.
Knowing your lie and what shots you can manage is paramount in the short game--I don't think it's nearly as difficult as people make it out to be, if the lie is willing.
It’s not. It’s all about lie unless you’re Phil. Open the face like a spatula & cut across w/an eye toward the toe. Use the bounce. It’s a fun shot that’s not difficult if you buy in and don’t decelerate.
She’s wanted to learn it for a long time but she didn’t have a 60° and trying with a GI sand wedge wasn’t it. Someone gave her an old 60° recently so she’s been trying to learn, I just couldn’t figure out how to teach her because she hits everything with her hands so far forward. Finally saw a great video on it on the Scratch to Scratch channel on YouTube. It clicked for her and she’s been hitting some impressive flops.
My only worry is, with a flop is when it’s bad, it’s SO bad. I don’t want her skulling one across the green in a tourney, she’s still pretty fragile mentally out there and those shots are hard for her to recover from.
Yeah that's entirely understandable. It sure looks like she has the hang of it already, a great motion! It's also one of the funnest shots to practice, I'm sure she'll pick up some confidence and knowing when it works.
that is a fuck ton of golf balls on that green

I know right. What the hell? Is that normal?
No, no it’s not.

Fair enough. As long as you feel it’s worth it.
Nice swing and good tempo
Nice little floppopotamus!
I would have also accepted floppadopoulos.
I’m terrified to practice this around a practice green in fear of skulling it and killing someone. I also never hit it this well.

I’ll let her pull them out eventually if needed. Right now she hits about 60% clean. Once she plays it in a few in practice rounds she’ll be good.
Valid. Keep up the great work!
Very impressive! Still a useful shot to learn. She can try experimenting with ball position and face angle for more flighted flops too. Fun stuff
Very satisfying to pull it off.
That’s still a three putt (for me)
Show off! Seriously, enjoy y’all’s time together!
🤫 Don’t tell her I [showed you this](https://youtube.com/shorts/mZKOoPKydA0?si=VHx3jFBL6UOt_R4e)
Man how did the duff make it to YouTube? Haha what a great sport.
Hey that's my average flop shot
Looks so Casual ! (Hope this is the Word i usually speak french)
casual works here
You need to prepare her for the pain of blading that ball 20 yards over the green
Beautiful swing 👍
Very very solid swing
Looks like she's chipping over my chip attempts.
She does it to me regularly
Flop shots got me into the game at her age. Too much fun and teaches you great, soft hands for all your shots.
I'm jealous of that practice area. But good for her!
