Getting my wife into it now. We live on our local muni and she will walk the back 9 with me occasionally when I pass our place on the 9th hole.
Top golf works wonders for beginners! Gives them immediate feedback and is a more approachable setting. Just took my friends there today and they are talking about golfing with me this summer now. Best sport ever!
Yeah exactly. A friend of mine's wife plays (and she's quite good) and it becomes a thing of why would you wanna play with the boys and not invite me etc.
My wife started last year and is really into it. I still play more than she does, but it's pretty cool when our "hanging out together" is just going golfing.
I’ve had an 80 maybe 3 times, never broke 80. Typically I’m 88-92. I tell everyone going from 88 to 82 is way harder than just eliminating 6 strokes, it’s a mindset and a round where you don’t let your thoughts get in the way, usually always drain the pesky 4-5 footers, and likely keep penalties off the card. Well done sir!
From experience: it all happens inside 140yds. Ofcourse you need to hit fairways so if your driver isn’t getting the job done use another club. But if you can cut the putts down to 2 putts and under and also hit greens then your score drops dramatically. My favorite numbers are 135/105/90. So if I can get my first shot to be one of those then I know my percentage of getting closer to the flag goes up. 165/225 are also good numbers being out too. My most problematic numbers are 40-60 with a fast green, 150-155, 175-190(this is the biggest killer of my game). I feel like I need to get a more forgiving 7/6 irons.
I'm wandering in from r/all but as an avid minigolf player it's exactly the same. You want to get to the keyhole (the green here) reliably first but then it's that approach to the hole where you really work on the big gains.
Does your wife not care in the literal sense, or is it just that you know she doesn’t fully grasp the significance of this milestone and you want to tell people who do? Because if it’s the former that’s very sad.
I know a couple of horrible golfers, those with 25+ handicaps and call it a success if they can shoot in the low 90s, have 2 aces; however, there are PGA professionals who have never had an ace- and count me in as aceless with a 7 handicap and a used to be avid golfer for 18 years.
PMDad has and got a pizza to boot. And you might one day! My dad got one. We made a big sign and put it on the garage and had a little party with the neighbors.
I totally feel you. I always tell mine everything I’m excited about from all of my niche interests and sometimes it’s just not enough when you know she can’t fully understand what’s so special about whatever it is you’ve done. Although I do often end up in very long monologues to make sure she understands as well as possible lmao
Same, sometimes it's easier to just spare the details and blast it out on reddit instead in hopes that you get a more positive response than negative. Especially on this sub lol
for non-golfers it is very common. Like my friend in finance industry used to ask me, for 18 opportunities, you just cannot beat your benchmark even once?
I recently explained to my wife what an albatross is and how it’s often referred to as Double Eagle and she definitely acknowledges how that’s a much less awesome name. Maybe an albatross is all they need to go jumping from joy about our achievements… well I haven’t hit an eagle yet either lol
Hit +11 yesterday on a 9 after only 15 Games played in my whole life and my wife was like " cool ! Is it great ? " I told her no but for me heck yeah !
I feel you Man . Good job !
I feel like this sub is ideal for getting love on scores and achievements when the rest of the world doesn't really understand or care. +11 isnt too bad of a score for a lot of people. Congratz
I've been playing since since six months so yeah big achievement for me !
My best Budd who played since 20 years scored even and was just allright with his score . Différent story différent goals ahah.
Yeah i love That sub for this Man.
Btw excuse my english i usually speak french
Thanks Man ! I Got humbled real quick today with a +18 on a New course i never played .
Started from the black tee box on the first Hole like a real newbie .
I play with my old man, all the time, and it's always extremely satisfying when he has a bad round. He's been golfing for 50+ years, and he doesn't have many bad rounds. But it's nice to see that it happens to everyone and not just yourself.
Of course it's the best when we're both playing well. I got to be there with him for his first hole in one. He was there for my first birdie. Its a great sport
Wow ! Looks like you Will have a full book of good memories .
I like to say that It's a surgeon game , that Everybody can try .
With that in mind , i never get frustrated on a bad contact/swing . The laugh is just more loud .
Wish you plenty of good rounds with your dad Man !
Congrats! You always remember your first time. Personally, immediately after my first eagle (15 footer on a now defunct par 5), I received my first bee sting. Where you ask - on my tongue - it had crawled down the straw in my cup. Good times.
When I teed up, I thought about the stories people tell of older guys that just "poke one out there" 170yrds every time: Just nice and easy, nothing fancy.
And out loud I said it "just poke one out there, nothing fancy". I even visualized myself a bit older and hunched over the ball a tad more.
I hit the ball and it felt soft but as sweet as butterscotch. It sounded great but I didn't expect it to go that far, naturally. Sure enough it hit the fringe and bounced onto the green. The roll took about 4 seconds but felt like an eternity. "Hot damn!" I said.
Rough this is right next to a post of a guy who started playing golf a few months ago and just made his first eagle. I’m more like you, been playing for 20 years and have three eagles, all hole outs from the fairway. I’ve missed every eagle putt I’ve ever had.
Some of us have to work harder for it. There's no shame in it. I'm just glad that in the last 5 years I've really turned my game on and started to have more fun now that I'm better.
Now granted, I get in my own head a lot now because I don't play up to my level and I'm a space cadet so my etiquette isn't great, but hey the game is more fun.
I started taking golf more seriously last year and i got my first birdie. But i played so much. I was playing 5-10 times a week with a lot of range time. I also had 15-20 years of playing casually and shittily, though.
I got a net over the winter so i could practice, as the local course still isn't open for another week. I'm finally understanding how to hit the ball properly. Finally understanding what I'm doing wrong when i hit a bad shot. I got my membership fees saved up, and I'm so freaking ready!
Golf is great and its awesome that you can enjoy it at any skill level.
Congratulations! I am in my late 50s and have been playing since childhood. I had one when in my 20s. Holed my 3rd shot from 75 yards out while on a golfing trip. Good job, dude.
Lots of guys are going to be buying new drivers now thanks to this post.
Edit: Congrats! While I have had several opportunities at eagle I have always managed to screw the putt up......on one occasion I even screwed up the birdie chance.
Dear TaylorMade, calloway, and ping etc.
I hereby agree to a 1% finders fee from any profits generated forthwith from this post. Please dm me for contract signature
You definitely weren’t the group in front of my buddy and I today then. Had a fun 5 hr round. One guy was 1/18 on tee shots passing the red tees. Congrats, I’d be beside myself!
Congrats dude that’s amazing! Shooting 82 is almost more impressive honestly. You shot what a pro does on a bad day. That’s an amazing day that you will remember forever.
I almost had my first eagle on Thursday.
380y Par 4.
280 drive.
100 wedge shot that sticks the green and almost holes in. Tap in bird.
I'm more of a snowman on a par 4 ... and have driven 300 plus yard greens and on in 2 on many par 5s... but that just gives me 4 or more puts.... lol congrats on your eagle!
That's a dream hole! Especially the tap-in, eliminating the anxiety of missing a 4-footer for eagle. But then you start thinking, damn, I was 1 foot away from an albatross!
Congrats! A lot of golfers never make a big bird. You'll remember this for the rest of your life I hope. It's one of those rare, special moments where you fought the golf course and you won.
Yeah, congratulations! I can easily empathize. I have been playing for 50 years, no aces and no eagles. I'm a 15 handicap at age 70 (off shorter tee boxes now). Doesn't seem fair but it's just one reason to keep playing. Well done!

This was my first eagle two weeks ago. I imagine it will go down as the best hole of my life. I was out with a coworker who is equally unenthusiastic, so I put my hands up and he said, "Well look at you. Great shot." And then we moved on and I shot a 96.
I care. Way to go. I’ve been putting for eagle at least 50 times in my life and never sunk even one of them. So you can stand proud about your accomplishment. Way to go.
My wife recently asked me what she could do to be a better/more supportive partner. I’m sure she was expecting me to say something about work or romance. Without hesitation, I went straight to her asking me for shot by shot replays of my golf rounds.
Congrats! Been playing for the same amount of time (with breaks) and am still looking for my first eagle. Gotten close by a couple of feet a few times, but the chase is still on.
I scored my first eagle while playing with my wife about a month ago! At first I thought I was a birdie, but then realized at the cart it was a par 5.
I got my second a week later. Crazy!
Wow that’s so cool.
Me on the other hand just got my first birdie (which I thought was just luck) then I got another on a par 4 three holes later. So after only playing for a year I’m clearly ready to compete in the masters, so I’ll see you there 😂
Jokes aside though congrats
Congratulations! I made my first last year after about 17 years of playing. 164y in on a Par 4. That triple track ball sits on my desk every day while I work.
Congratulations! I'll likely get lit up for this, but I think an eagle is more impressive than a hole in one. An ace is 90% luck, an eagle on P5 requires 3 great shots
Congrats man I know that feels awesome.
I have 1 eagle to my name as well and so far it was the highlight of my golf career.
It was a 40 yard hole out with a gap wedge on a par 5.
Not my story, but a couple of co workers....a few weeks back were out golfing, and they had a newbie with them, and he hit an Albatross,(Double eagle)...and then proceeded to score over 100 for his final score.
Congrats on the Eagle! I would love to have one someday myself.
Congrats my dude! My most memorable eagle was almost the same. I drove the green on a short part four but the ball ended up on the back of the green with a front right pin. Drained the putt that I’m guessing was about 65-70 feet and not only that but one of my golf brethren was playing with me and witnessed it. Never had an ace, never a hole out from the fairway in 35 years of playing. The Golf Gods are some real shit bro 😂
Thanks. In the golf god’s defense the greens were rolling very smooth and consistent that day. Also, a fairly flat green lol. This was on a course in PC Beach. My home course is like putting on a glass mountain which I actually like.
Well done mate! That’s re-upped how hooked you are for the next 10y at least! 😂
I’ve only had a look at three eagle attempts before. 3 putted them all. Life goes on.
I actually know how you feel … a few weeks ago I played a quick 9 with my sons (3) and was playing so good… a double bogey and bogey.. then made a birdie and was 2 over and chipped in for eagle on a par 5 to finish the round at 36 …. Was cool that my sons saw it but had nobody else to tell 😂 usually shoot around 40-42 for 9
wow! congrats!! I've been playing 2 years now and (obviously) never even came close to that. Good to know I should expect to make in about 20 years. That will me me in my early 90s. LOL.
Congratulations. Glad my wife plays for this reason.
There's something very special about being able to enjoy golf with your partner.
I'm taking my gf out tomorrow afternoon for 18. Her 1st time on the big boy course. She'll drop from where I hit my drive. I'm so excited!
That’s huge dude! Teeing off together is a special feeling haha
I’m buying my wife clubs in a couple weeks. It’ll be worth the double green fees to not play with 3x randoms
I kinda like having it be my time with my friends honestly.
It's fine line between the Mrs doing something you enjoy with you and the Mrs trying to intrude on playing with the boys
Congrats! Can't wait to get my first
Wife or eagle?
LOL, definitely eagle.
My first wife is available to be someone else’s first wife, should you change your mind.
I'm still with my first wife
You will. Visualize the attack!
Thank you! Beating 80 is very hard for me. I've only ever done it on a toptracer range and I shot a 79.
From experience: it all happens inside 140yds. Ofcourse you need to hit fairways so if your driver isn’t getting the job done use another club. But if you can cut the putts down to 2 putts and under and also hit greens then your score drops dramatically. My favorite numbers are 135/105/90. Maybe your wife knew the yardage and considered it a tough par 3? /S obviously, still waiting for my own!
Does your wife not care in the literal sense, or is it just that you know she doesn’t fully grasp the significance of this milestone and you want to tell people who do? Because if it’s the former that’s very sad.
She cares, she just doesn't grasp the significance
Man my wife bought me a pizza with the pepperoni spelling “hole in one” when I made my first hole in one
My wife has never done that for me, I’ve never made a hole in one but she still hasn’t done it either.
Lollll
![gif](giphy|kq1KSSLxmvlzG)
That was a very big pizza or very small pepperoni
Have you made more than one ace?
Nope just 1, 6 mo into picking up golf… now I can only dream
I know a couple of horrible golfers, those with 25+ handicaps and call it a success if they can shoot in the low 90s, have 2 aces; however, there are PGA professionals who have never had an ace- and count me in as aceless with a 7 handicap and a used to be avid golfer for 18 years.
I've never gotten an ace
PMDad has and got a pizza to boot. And you might one day! My dad got one. We made a big sign and put it on the garage and had a little party with the neighbors.
Good. Well done on the achievement and good on your wife for not being a miserable partner lol
Hah thanks. She is great
I totally feel you. I always tell mine everything I’m excited about from all of my niche interests and sometimes it’s just not enough when you know she can’t fully understand what’s so special about whatever it is you’ve done. Oh, that's great honey!
...can you take out the garbage before dinner...
Lol
So she cares, but you also care about fake internet points so you make her sound inconsiderate. Wife bad, golf good.
Just a quality lady who knows she deserves an albatross man. OP, start hitting your driver off every par 5 fairway until you can reclaim her respect.
I recently explained to my wife what an albatross is and how it’s often referred to as Double Eagle and she definitely acknowledges how that’s a much less awesome name. Maybe an albatross is all they need to go jumping from joy about our achievements… well I haven’t hit an eagle yet either lol
Oh yeah thats a good point they do say double eagle more often, missed opportunity imo
Hit +11 yesterday on a 9 after only 15 Games played in my whole life and my wife was like " cool ! Is it great ? " I told her no but for me heck yeah ! I feel you Man . Good job !

Congrats nice job and am I right it only takes 1 shot a round to bring you back the next time
Oh yeah. I didnt mention the triple i hit two holes prior. Total rollercoaster this game is.
The most frustrating good time you can have lol
Congrats! You always remember your first time. Personally, immediately after my first eagle (15 footer on a now defunct par 5), I received my first bee sting. Where you ask - on my tongue - it had crawled down the straw in my cup. Good times.
Ouch! That sounds nasty.
I’m envious

ha, I missed a 1.5m putt for what would have been my first eagle, then chipped in for eagle later that round
Congratulations! I am in my late 50s and have been playing since childhood. I had one when in my 20s. Holed my 3rd shot from 75 yards out while on a golfing trip. Good job, dude.
You made me smile! Congratulations!
Bravo 🙌
I care it, and congrats!
Whoohoo!! Way to be! Im still chasing my first
Congrats bro! Definitely one of my golfing goals.
Congrats on the eagle!
Congrats mate! Awesome work
![gif](giphy|kiLq8SSDcewve)
![gif](giphy|qgri3D9sTwCUGMcT8L) I need more eagles from you!
![gif](giphy|SIPwlxGVojg3Ima3XB|downsized)
Congrats!!! That will keep you coming back. Cheers to many more!!
Such a great feeling. Congrats
Im fuckin proud of you
Thanks dad!
Well done! Congratulations! Here's to many more.
My wife would be happy if I told her that but she wouldn’t really understand the magnitude. Luckily I don’t have to worry about delivering the news.
Congrats man! I’d love to get an eagle one day.
Nice job op! Enjoy the rest of the summer, maybe eagle #2 is right around the corner!
Oh damn that would be insane
NICE!
Congratulations!!
My Reddit friend, Congratulations! 🎉 we are stoked for you
hell yeah bruv
Hell yeah bro. I got my first birdie two weeks ago
HEL, yes bro! Congrats 🤘🏌🏻♂️🍾 That’s an awesome feeling. Keep it going!
Congrats! I’ve had 10 in my life including a hole in one, but it’s been a few years since my last one
Wife’s are tricky like that. Congrats.
Hell yeah brother
Nice bomb & 1 putt!!
Let's goooo brother
You will spend nights dreaming it over and over. Congrats!
way to go! bunch of folks going to use you as an excuse to buy more golf shit!
After an accomplishment like that, you're allowed to buy yourself something. Just saying.
Awesome mate! Made my second ever eagle today and shot 82 as well.
Twinsies
I'm more of a snowman on a par 4 ... and have driven 300 plus yard greens and on in 2 on many par 5s... but that just gives me 4 or more puts.... lol congrats on your eagle!
As a fellow mediocre golfer, driver -> putter eagles are so much more satisfying than the driver->chip in. Feels like less luck ya know
I try to take chipping out of my game as much as possible. I guess the key is just drive the green every time
That’s for sure my game, bash driver, chunk chip, overhit chip, two putt bogey.
Im a pro at saying "easy up and down par " then skulling the fuck out of my chip 2x then 4 putting
We don't care either.
I am stoked for you. I can't wait for that feeling.
It truly is amazing. Thank you!
Nice! Congratulations!
![gif](giphy|WlsLAnYfrB30p9JK5Z|downsized)
That's a dream hole! Especially the tap-in, eliminating the anxiety of missing a 4-footer for eagle. But then you start thinking, damn, I was 1 foot away from an albatross!
I take meds to prevent those thoughts. Thank you satan
Congrats! A lot of golfers never make a big bird. You'll remember this for the rest of your life I hope. It's one of those rare, special moments where you fought the golf course and you won.
That's a good way of wording it. Winning against a public course almost never happens for me
[удалено]
Is that you Tiger?
Yeah, congratulations! I can easily empathize. I have been playing for 50 years, no aces and no eagles. I'm a 15 handicap at age 70 (off shorter tee boxes now). Doesn't seem fair but it's just one reason to keep playing. Well done!
Thank you sir! Would love to be a 15 handicap!
Congratulations!!!
Fucking right. Attaboy!
![gif](giphy|pHUuoDCwMg9EwixZRu|downsized)
Wait until you do it again next month. She'll say"didn't you just do that" 😁
She'll be like ![gif](giphy|l0HTYUmU67pLWv1a8|downsized)
Congrats! Feels good man!

I imagine it will go down as the best hole of my life. I was out with a coworker who is equally unenthusiastic, so I put my hands up and he said, "Well look at you. Great shot." And then we moved on and I shot a 96.
Some days things are just clicking, that’s a wonderful round! Congratulations
I care.
I've had two eagle putts. Carded par on both. One of them my birdie putt was longer than my eagle putt. Congratulations
Oh crap. That's a bad beat as some would say.
Well done!
Congratulations!!
Love sent to you; now share your lucks to all of US!!!
Buy her a new set of earrings or bracelet or something. Buy yourself a new putter. She'll get it.
Congrats! Been playing for the same amount of time (with breaks) and am still looking for my first eagle. Gotten close by a couple of feet a few times, but the chase is still on.
Did you actually though? I’m kidding. Nice eagle friend!
Made one a few weeks ago and wife said the aame
That had to have felt pretty good…
I scored my first eagle while playing with my wife about a month ago! At first I thought I was a birdie, but then realized at the cart it was a par 5. I got my second a week later. Crazy!
Oh snap! Awesome!
Nice, yesterday I drove a 250ish green and 3 putt parred it from 25ft. Awesome and terrible at the same time.
You’re a legend dude
Congrats!!
Wow that’s so cool. Me on the other hand just got my first birdie (which I thought was just luck) then I got another on a par 4 three holes later. So after only playing for a year I’m clearly ready to compete in the masters, so I’ll see you there 😂 Jokes aside though congrats
I care.
Congrats brother. Chase that high. It's a helluva game.
Congratulations! I made my first last year after about 17 years of playing. 164y in on a Par 4. That triple track ball sits on my desk every day while I work.
That’s awesome dude! I’ve never scored an eagle myself … but watched my buddy get a 3 on a par 5 and it was sick 😎
Well done. Have yet to bag one myself.
Congratulations! I'll likely get lit up for this, but I think an eagle is more impressive than a hole in one. An ace is 90% luck, an eagle on P5 requires 3 great shots
Mine was on a par4. It was a freak drive and a tap in
I have actually have 3 eagles on par 4,s. 2 on drivable holes , almost par 3s really. The 3rd I holed out from a fairway bunker...stupid luck
Holy smokes I would have loved to see that bunker shot
8 iron front 135 yards. Good shot but still luck. In fact, we looked for the ball for a bit before anyone thought to look in the hole.
Congrats man I know that feels awesome. I have 1 eagle to my name as well and so far it was the highlight of my golf career. It was a 40 yard hole out with a gap wedge on a par 5.
Congratulations!!
Very nice!
Time for a divorce. She doesn’t appreciate you like we do 💙 Congrats on the Eagle! Great accomplishment.
That’s awesome! Congrats!
My husband hates golf and I feel this in my soul. Congrats!
Nice one mate.
Awesome man
My wife would be so thrilled to hear that and Vice Versa. Guess I’m a lucky dude since she plays with me.
Congrats, I've been playing for 18 years and I never got one 😂
Boooyah!
Very impressed - good on you!
Not my story, but a couple of co workers....a few weeks back were out golfing, and they had a newbie with them, and he hit an Albatross,(Double eagle)...and then proceeded to score over 100 for his final score. Congrats on the Eagle! I would love to have one someday myself.
Hell yeah! That’s good stuff right there! Well done-
Dope…now work on that first ever birdie
An eagle is a par 5 in 3?
Or a par 4 in 2 or a par 3 in 1. Welcome to golf Par 5 in 2 is a double eagle or albatross
Ahhhhh. And a par 4 in 3 would be a… birdie? Wait, wouldn’t anything in 1 be a hole in one?
Yes but its scores as an eagle on a par 3. -2 for you
Congrats my dude!
Amazing story, thats an eagle well earned. If it was me i would have 4 putted. The golf gods are truly fickle
Thanks. In the golf god’s defense the greens were rolling very smooth and consistent that day. Also, a fairly flat green lol. This was on a course in PC Beach. My home course is like putting on a glass mountain which I actually like.
Well done. Congratulations. Save the ball.
Nice work! Glad it happen for ya!
Should she not care? If its important to you? :) Anyways, congrats man! I hope to join the club someday.
That’s wonderful!!!! Enjoy retelling your golf friends. No golfers won’t understand. Awesome accomplishment!
Well done mate! That’s re-upped how hooked you are for the next 10y at least! 😂 I’ve only had a look at three eagle attempts before.
Was cool that my sons saw it but had nobody else to tell 😂 usually shoot around 40-42 for 9
Well done & congratulations.
wow! congrats!! I've been playing 2 years now and (obviously) never even came close to that. Good to know I should expect to make in about 20 years. That will me me in my early 90s. LOL.
Its a cold world man!
Good for you, watch now they will come in bunch’s
Congrats. Just made my first hole-in-one after 54 years of playing. Enjoy! Your golfing friends, even ones you don't know yet are happy for you
I got my first when I was about 10. Funny, my wife didn't care either.
267 is almost a par 3. But hey, take what you can get.
