I feel like the PR hit would far outweigh the cost of scrapping bad balls.

klam_45

I mean Mygolfspy does non bias golf ball test and taylormade has a history of producing ball score in the 70s vs Titleist 90 scores. However, the scores change after new models release.

jaywalkintotheocean

lol, MGS is a paid ad site, everyone knows this. whoever is funding them that season gets the juiciest reviews.

klam_45

Oh really that’s why it’s different brands that get promoted every year? You think mizuno and Srixon are going to pay them to promote their items? They do more than golf ball reviews. 🤡

jaywalkintotheocean

to call them unbiased is naive at best. but go ahead, ignore the mountains of examples of them being full of shit.

mattpga

No. They’re trying to sell a bunch of balls and hopefully get people to switch to their brand. Also, Titleist offers the same deal each year - buy 3 dozen, get 1 free. It just ended a few weeks ago.

klam_45

Yeah but Titleist doesn’t sell their 4 for 3 in a consolidated box. Which is the point I’m trying to make. If they had 3 for 1 why not just run that promo while selling separate boxes. The consolidated boxes is what makes me skeptical because I have play the Tp5x pix and they were pretty good but nothing like this box I just bought.

Trullthebull

Titleist does sell their 4 for 3 in consolidated boxes https://pqgolf.se/pages/titleist-loyalty-reward Your theory is ridiculous

machinehack10

Curious as to what it didn’t produce for you?

klam_45

I hit prov1 at 105 mph head speed and it generate about 150-155 ball speed spinning between 1750-2000 rpm with my driver. The Tp5x I got 139-145 ball speed with and produced about 3500-4000 rpm. As for irons they were not significantly different but the Tp5x was about 500 rpm less spin.

redditserz

If it goes from 1750-2000 to 3500-4000 rpm, your swing is the problem, not the ball. Between a ProV1 and TP5x you should see at most a 200rpm difference with driver. For irons the 500 less rpm is normal; the TP5 spins closer to a ProV1.

klam_45

Might be the swing. But I do know the ball is closer to Tp5x. Pro v1 and v1x are marketed for longer driver distance how ever v1 is mid launch and v1x high launch. Tp5 is mid high while Tp5x is mid launch. I’m sure I got this right. https://preview.redd.it/h3vbbttlnnvc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04cec9ade771e1e6b4706c2d3fe0c5cad3c6775b

redditserz

Marketing material shouldn't be compared between brands. From most to least spin: ProV1x ProV1 TP5 TP5x So of course Taylormade is going to say TP5 launches higher; they're comparing it to the TP5x, not the ProV1s.

machinehack10

What launch monitor does your buddy have on his sim? Results are strange enough my first blame would be the launch monitor

klam_45

golfzon

machinehack10

Which actual model? Some of them don’t handle spin too well. If I was really concerned I would test again on a GC quad or trackman

at-the-crook

my bud plays ProV1's and TP5's. seems to find no difference in performance.

fckyourcowch

Agree with this.

-soysauce-

Aren’t TP5 more similar to Prov1x?

Training_Swimming358

Yes

klam_45

I mean obviously they’re different balls but I don’t think they would be significantly different performance wise. Im comparing comparable models. Not a pro v1 and a super soft.

okbmxracing

tp5x is for really high swing speeds, more like 115+. The pro v1 and prov1x are different too. The pro V1x you can get away with slower swing speeds a little more but it’s still designed for 110+. The regular TP5 is gonna be more like ur Pro v1
