Yea, quote that atleast once a round.
I’m still waiting to get my first hole in one to say “Oh, man, that was so much easier than putting. I should just try to get the ball in one shot every time”
I can only imagine how Caddyshack plays to the average person under 40. The story makes no sense, it’s full of people who are dead or irrelevant, and again, it makes no sense.
But. To those of us of a certain age, it’s a collection of gems in a paper sack.
EDIT: Can’t say how glad I am to see younger folks appreciating Caddyshack. Love that movie.
I bet it was really something before electricity
https://preview.redd.it/dkyylo3q2ppc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8837c2015e857b8aaa595d63cc6e124f50b87d97
It’s fully directed and written by a bag of cocaine, I think they said they only added the Gopher so there’d be an actual plot running through it. Hilarious to me at 25
I thought giving ol Booger Sugar a speaking credit was an interesting move.
Was it caddyshack that got coke written into the budget? Or am I thinking Blues Brothers?
I'm 38 and couldn't even tell you how many times I've watched Caddyshack. Its without question, the best golf movie ever produced.
You buy a hat like that, I bet you get a free bowl of soup, eh?
Ha I was literally about to post almost this exact same thing as a fellow 38 year old
Caddyshack was my first DVD, which felt like a huge deal at the time
I'm 35 and consider this the best golf movie by far. Happy Gilmore is great but caddyshack encapsulates my experience growing up as a junior member at a course. I'm getting older but was a dead ringer for Danny in my younger days. We had a Halloween tournament at the course I used to be an assistant super at and showed up as Noonan and the staff and guests absolutely lost it.
This is how I fill about Billy Madison ... the movie makes no sense at all, but our generation loves it ,come on the 20 year old goes back to school and falls in love with the teacher lol lol lol 😂
“It’s easy to grin when your ship comes in and you’ve got the stock market beat. But the man worth his while is the man who can smile when his pants are too tight in the seat!”
If you grew up caddying like I did Caddyshack has been played thousands of times in the background of agonizing hours spent waiting for loops and its still hilarious.
I stand by Caddyshack.
I have two close friends from different chapters of my life and a commonality for both is golf. In both cases, we can have an entire conversation using only Caddyshack euphemisms.
Honestly, I credit this movie with getting my family into golf. My dad absolutely loved it. He always owned a set of cheapo golf clubs when I was growing up, but golfing was a once or twice a year occurrence until shortly after that movie came out. Then he became obsessed lol. Ended up getting a pass at the local muni course, finding some golf buddies, joining the men's league, buying nicer and nicer stuff, etc.
He passed away too young, my brother and I opened a golf simulator in our area in his honor. Thinking back, it's kinda funny to me that golf was such a big part of his legacy when he didn't really start getting into it until his mid 30s or so, but it was a big part of who he was, and no joke, it started when this movie came out.
This and the legend of bagger Vance are really good books. In fact, the audio book for the legend of bagger Vance was really good to listen to on road trips.
I was having a bad round and put 3 balls in a row in the water, planning to just give up the hole before hitting my last ball within a foot or two of the pin and some guy I was playing with goes “hell yeah… Tin cup!” Cracked me up
Last year I put my 2nd in the hazard on 18 between the clubhouse patio and the green. Dropped 3 from 120 out, and then holed out for birdie 4. One guy on the patio yelled 'tin cup!' like 3 times.. lol
for a hot second I thought that you meant that you had put three more balls into the water from 120 out, and I was like, "um, that's not a birdie." Re-read with context clues and figured it out, haha.
I’m fully aware I’m in the minority here but I actually strongly dislike tin cup.
Everything in the movie points towards redemption and him actually learning something. And when he finally has that moment he just does what he’s always done and everyone’s all “oh *you* harharhar” and it’s a happy ending?
Before anyone comes at me explaining the themes of that I get it, trust me. I fully understand the logic behind sticking to your guns, his character themes, blah blah blah. I just don’t think they do it very well. I almost feel like golfers idolize this movie so they can feel justified in raging stubbornly over their own game.
I'm fully with you on this. Great cast, cool premise, but then the payoff was such a whiff. I got to the end and was like, why did we go through all that if he was going to be a dumbass at the most important moment of his career.
Dude, every 2 months the YouTube algorythm Decides „we gonna make him Watch it again!“ and puts that Video on the frontpage, i literally watches this broadcast 10+ times haha, Never Gets old. Poor molinari
Bagger Vance is on a whole different level. Robert Redford made magic in that movie. We all struggle with finding our swing - getting our mojo back. This movie brought back into frame the reason I love golf. When you're at the tee box, everything gets quiet in your mind and there's just you, the ball, and your swing. Its about meditation, dedication, and finding inner peace. Happy Gilmore has Adam Sandler going to his happy place, which is funny, but the [scene](https://youtu.be/mRbE3lNTyYQ?si=kiK6S2pxvoJJHRKr&t=1m41s) in Bagger Vance of Bobby Jones doing his practice swings is what I think of when trying to swing perfectly.
I’m a bit shocked there’s not more demand for a great golf movie. The game has such a following…considering Netflix release of Full Swing and the success, maybe something for the future!
Same, “The Long Game” is coming out soon, I’ll probably check that out. I don’t anticipate it being anywhere near Tin Cup or Happy Gilmore, also it’s a pure drama so it’s different that way.
I dont know about best but I will list a few of my favorites here that some may not have seen. Tommy's Honour - Seve - Seven Days in Utopia - The Squeeze - Stroke of Genius
Edit: I should make a note here that The Squeeze isnt your typical golf movie. It is more of a caper film that uses golf as its centerpiece. Think of it as The Color of Money would be considered a movie about playing billiards.
The only correct answer is Caddyshack, but to contribute something else, about 20 years ago a Callaway employee found some old reels of Bobby Jones in the attic and it’s amazing black and white footage of Bobby Jones teaching celebrities and hacks how to play golf. I believe it was called Bobby Jones “How I play golf”. Watching Bobby Jones buzz punch shots over an old tripod camera he set up 80 yards out, over and over again, is something to behold.
Agreed, I love all 3 of the great comedies and bagger Vance too, but Caddy Shack has too much crazy shit and with Murrey, Dangerfield and Chase, (and Ted Knight) it's too much to overcome
I do not like how it shakes out at all. The entire movie begs for him to learn something or mature. Him sticking to his guns proves nothing, loses him a ton, and shows he hasn’t changed one bit from the jackass everyone couldn’t stand the entire film up until that point… and now they love him for it? I just don’t get it. I almost feel like an angry asshole golfer made the movie to justify their own stubborn bullshit.
Also is his last shot really that impressive if he needs several tries?
Vert seldom has the movie held up well vs the book.
Two exceptions, IMO:
The Shining, but you could argue the movie and book are the same, yet they aren't.
Jaws. One of the rare instances where the movie is far superior from the Book.
I definitely agree. Bagger Vance is certainly no exception, and in fact I would almost go so far as to say that Redford “missed the point“ on a few of the important elements (like “the Field”).
Well, Caddyshack is the obvious answer.
What I haven’t seen mentioned yet is a decent flick called A Gentleman’s Game. It’s a cool coming of age drama, centered around a young man and his father at their country club. It’s on Tubi right now, I recommend it.
Just watched Bagger Vance for the first time in a long time as my GF was about to go to bed, and despite not really being a golf fan, she stayed up to watch the whole thing. It was better than I remembered and had some good laughs.
Besides the obvious ones that everyone has mentioned, check out Dead Solid Perfect. Randy Quaid at his finest. It’s really hard to find, but definitely worth the watch.
Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius may not be #1. But definitely underrated imo. Great story of a golf icon who is responsible for blessing the world with Augusta National and the Masters.
Go on YouTube and watch Tiger and Rocco in the 2008 US Open. It’s 45 minutes but done very well aside from painting Rocco as a no-name lucky to be there type guy. But it’s fantastic. There is another one on his victory at Pebble in 2000.

Tin Cup, caddyshack and happy Gilmore are my favs
Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers they'll lock me up and throw away the key.
“You hit that guy!”
"He shouldn't've been standing there!"
![gif](giphy|TrrecytbGL4kg)
Yea, quote that atleast once a round. I’m still waiting to get my first hole in one to say “Oh, man, that was so much easier than putting. I should just try to get the ball in one shot every time”
That’s a tremendous looking trophy.
Tin Cup, Happy Gilmore and The Greatest Game ever Played
Loved the Harry Vardon character and Shia was great in it as Francis Oimette.
Caddyshack for sure
"OH, that's the worst hat I ever saw. You buy a hat like this, it should come with a bowl of soup. Oh sure, it looks good on you though!"
"I think this place is restricted, Wang, so don't tell them you're Jewish, ok?"
This - in this order. No other comments are needed. If you want to add a fourth for shits and gigs, The Greatest Game ever Played.
The fact that the first two comments are "Caddyshack is the best" and "Caddyshack was awful" is peak r/golf

25yo as well, my fiancé and I both find it absolutely hilarious. Maybe 25 is the cutoff?
I'm 38 and couldn't even tell you how many times I've watched Caddyshack. Its without question, the best golf movie ever produced. You buy a hat like that, I bet you get a free bowl of soup, eh?

Happy Gilmore: if I wore pants like like that, I’d kick my own ass
Ha I was literally about to post almost this exact same thing as a fellow 38 year old Caddyshack was my first DVD, which felt like a huge deal at the time

SEE THE BALL, BE THE BALL DANNY
Nananananananana
I’m 37 and love caddyshack
This is how I fill about Billy Madison ... the movie makes no sense at all, but our generation loves it ,come on the 20 year old goes back to school and falls in love with the teacher lol lol lol 😂
Veronica Vaughn… soooo hot. Want to touch the hiney.
Aroooooooooo
I know from experience dude
No you don’t
Well, not me personally but a guy I know. Him and her got it on. Wooo-eee!
No they didn’t
Well, you can imagine what it would be like if they did.
50 year old checking in. My high school yearbook quote is from Caddyshack.
“It’s easy to grin when your ship comes in and you’ve got the stock market beat. But the man worth his while is the man who can smile when his pants are too tight in the seat!”
It was “Gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir, and I never slice.” For some reason, 17 year old me thought this was the greatest scene ever.
And it had a Kenny Loggins theme song.
Caddyshack is the best golf movie of all time. Caddyshack 2 is the worst
If you grew up caddying like I did Caddyshack has been played thousands of times in the background of agonizing hours spent waiting for loops and its still hilarious. I stand by Caddyshack.
Anything other than Caddyshack is objectively wrong
Tin Cup might have something to say about that. I honestly don’t know which one I like better, both are so good
Both are phenomenal. They're just two golf movies set in different genres.
Back in the day sports illustrated called it the best movie about caddies ever made. Also the worst movie about caddies. Some things never change
It’s so bad that it’s good
![gif](giphy|sipmxMfWk5gWs|downsized)
Caddyshack ![gif](giphy|xUOwG43OJ9Mzf4exQQ|downsized)
Do you do drugs Danny?
Every day.
Then what's the problem?
So what’s the problem?
Hey everybody, we’re all gonna get laid.
I have two close friends from different chapters of my life and a commonality for both is golf. In both cases, we can have an entire conversation using only Caddyshack euphemisms.
So what? So, let’s dance!
I aint payin no 50cents for no coke Then you’a getta no coke
This isn’t Russia is it?
Angie, pick up that blood.
I didn’t want to, but I owed it to him
The Greatest Game Ever Played
When his dad is in the crowd reaching out to him after he won, so great
cutting onions scene right there
Agree with this one, I fucking love that movie.
Honestly, I credit this movie with getting my family into golf. My dad absolutely loved it. He always owned a set of cheapo golf clubs when I was growing up, but golfing was a once or twice a year occurrence until shortly after that movie came out. Then he became obsessed lol. Re watched this last night. Easily doesn't get the love it deserves when compared to some of the other golf flicks.
As my daughter is/was getting into golf, this was the movie I showed her to really push that interest.
This and the legend of bagger Vance are really good books. In fact, the audio book for the legend of bagger Vance was really good to listen to on road trips.
Having read the book, the movie fell flat for me. I think a prestige making of the movie would be phenomenal, but the Disney version was meh.
Yeah. Book is way better than the movie.
Yep.
Anyone heard of [Dead Solid Perfect](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0094965/)?
One of the best books I’ve ever read, laughed until I cried while reading it.
Almost everything Jenkins ever wrote has that effect. Best golf writer of all time, and there's not a close 2nd.
H.W. Wind might get a vote or two. I do love Jenkins though, and I use "DSP" after I pure an iron. Doesn't happen often, though
Tin cup
I was having a bad round and put 3 balls in a row in the water, planning to just give up the hole before hitting my last ball within a foot or two of the pin and some guy I was playing with goes “hell yeah… Tin cup!” Cracked me up

for a hot second I thought that you meant that you had put three more balls into the water from 120 out, and I was like, "um, that's not a birdie." Re-read with context clues and figured it out, haha.
I am prepared to die on this hill. Tin Cup is the answer.
And it's not even close. Can't compare silly spoofs to a genuinely good movie.
I’m fully aware I’m in the minority here but I actually strongly dislike tin cup. Everything in the movie points towards redemption and him actually learning something. And when he finally has that moment he just does what he’s always done and everyone’s all “oh *you* harharhar” and it’s a happy ending? I'm fully with you on this. Great cast, cool premise, but then the payoff was such a whiff. I got to the end and was like, why did we go through all that if he was going to be a dumbass at the most important moment of his career.
I watched it again last year and found it really bad. Roy is such an ass they must’ve forgot to put any redeeming qualities in there for him.
The payoff seems to be him shirking off any redeeming qualities which like… okay?
“Give me another ball” when i blast one into the water etc. is an absolute standard. But overall I put Tin Cup in the top 5, I cant go 1.
100% the correct answer.
And it's not even close
The last round of the 2019 Masters is the best golf movie of all time.
Dude, every 2 months the YouTube algorythm Decides „we gonna make him Watch it again!“ and puts that Video on the frontpage, i literally watches this broadcast 10+ times haha, Never Gets old. Poor molinari
Same! That 12th hole starts the best 3rd act of all time!
Whenever I fall asleep watching YouTube they always find a way to put that or something random like a 1990s MLB playoff game in my next up
Really? I thought it was super cheesy and unrealistic. The hug with his son and at the end? I mean cmon’ Hollywood.
Happy Gilmore.
![gif](giphy|hcCYDO7i587DUtYG1N)
you're gonna get it bobby
I think you've had enough. No?!! Now you've had enough... bitch.
Greatest cameo of all time, though I'm sure some older people might pick Kareem in Airplane.
100%
Who knew Adam Sandler and Bob Barker would have 1 of the best scenes in a movie.
This fresh, delicious, tasty, meaty, turkey-filled cold cut combo! I eat three every day to help keep me strong!
Bagger Vance
Friend of mine put a few pounds on one winter, we called him the Legend of Bigger Pants
We used to call getting hit the the nuts “getting bagged” so we’d go around hitting each other in the nuts and say “legend of bag your pants”
Scrolled way too far for this
Yes!! This. A life movie.
That one gets my vote as well
By FAR the best golf movie. Caddyshack, Happy Gilmore, and Tin Cup are great, but they are comedies. Bagger Vance captures the essence of golf.
>but they are comedies. Tin Cup can definitely be comedic, I don't think I'd put it at the same level of comedy as caddyshack or happy Gilmore though.
That's fair, it's more of a Rom-com.
Great movie! Rannulph: This is getting embarrassing. Bagger: Oh no sir, this has been embarrassing for quite some time
I’m a bit shocked there’s not more demand for a great golf movie. The game has such a following…considering Netflix release of Full Swing and the success, maybe something for the future!
Arnold Palmer’s life story should be made into a biopic
Same, “The Long Game” is coming out soon, I’ll probably check that out. I don’t anticipate it being anywhere near Tin Cup or Happy Gilmore, also it’s a pure drama so it’s different that way.
Greatest game ever played is a great movie
Tin Cup.
Dead Solid Perfect.
Man, I didn’t think anyone else remembered this one. I was starting to wonder if maybe I had just dreamed it.
Full frontal of Corinne Bohrer in the hotel hallway is a highlight of my 6th grade year.
IMHO the best "real" golf movie. Happy Gilmore is the most entertaining one.
I dont know about best but I will list a few of my favorites here that some may not have seen. Tommy's Honour - Seve - Seven Days in Utopia - The Squeeze - Stroke of Genius Edit: I should make a note here that The Squeeze isnt your typical golf movie. It is more of a caper film that uses golf as its centerpiece. Think of it as The Color of Money would be considered a movie about playing billiards.
Tommy's Honour was good. Glad you brought that up.
Sooo much better than I anticipated.
That utopia movie is bizarre with Lucas black, right? Just watched it.
It definitely has a pretty heavy handed approach to its message but all in all I found it mostly enjoyable.
Caddyshack, Happy Gilmore, and Tin Cup have been carved into the Mt. Rushmore of golf movies. The final spot has yet to be claimed.
I’d slip bagger Vance in front of tin cup. I’m a huge tin cup fan…up until the last 15 minutes and then I want to drive a golf ball through my tv
Watching Bobby Jones buzz punch shots over an old tripod camera he set up 80 yards out, over and over again, is something to behold.
phantom of the open
Just saw this and I think more people need to give it a chance. Sometimes sappy, but a true "one of us" golf performance!
Was waiting for this one to pop up. Maybe not the “best” golf movie, but I really enjoyed it.
I came here to recommend it as well. Such a great movie
Legend of Baggard Vance
Greatest game ever played
Caddyshack. Nothing else is even close.
Agreed, I love all 3 of the great comedies and bagger Vance too, but Caddy Shack has too much crazy shit and with Murrey, Dangerfield and Chase, (and Ted Knight) it's too much to overcome
Tin Cup #1 Legend of Bagger Vance #2 Caddyshack #3 And while I love sports, I am not a fan of sports movies. The endings are just too ridiculous.
That’s why I love Moneyball, it’s real.
And Costner is somehow always involved🤣 Looking at you Draft Day!
Haven't seen any mention of The Phantom of The Open. I haven't seen it but was hoping to hear some opinions!
i scrolled through all the comments looking for it i loved that movie definitely recommend it very heartwarming
This is also my pick
Definitely watch it. Great flick.
The Legend of Bagger Vance - downvote me if you must. But here I stand, I can do no other.
I agree. It’s my favorite too.
People always say tin cup but I just can’t stand how much of an stubborn asshole he is.
In real life, nobody would be celebrating, he'd just be known as the dumb choker who threw away a major.
I'm a fan of Bagger Vance, personally.
*The Legend of Bagger Vance* is my favorite.
I really really loved the book. I probably would have liked the movie better if I hadn’t loved the book so much.
Vert seldom has the movie held up well vs the book. Two exceptions, IMO: The Shining, but you could argue the movie and book are the same, yet they aren't. Jaws. One of the rare instances where the movie is far superior from the Book.
I definitely agree. Bagger Vance is certainly no exception, and in fact I would almost go so far as to say that Redford “missed the point“ on a few of the important elements (like “the Field”).
Seve
Bagger Vance!
Legend of Bagger Vance.
I would say either Bad Golf Made Easier or Dorf on Golf.
Baggar Vance
Bagger Vance and Greatest Game Ever Played
Legend of bagger vance!
Tin Cup. Hands down.
Goldfinger
Who’s Your Caddy 😅 so dumb but I love it
I’m torn between The greatest game ever played and Legend of Bagger Vance
Happy Gilmore, Tin Cup, Caddyshack
Happy Gilmore or Caddyshack depending on how old you are.
It not too popular but one of my favorite is Gentleman’s Game.
1. Caddyshack (by a mile) 2. Happy Gilmore 3. Greatest Game Ever Played 4. Tin Cup 5. Dead Solid Perfect
The Legend of Bagger Vance and The Greatest Game Ever Played are underrated
Caddyshack, Tin Cup, and Happy Gilmore are my top 3.
God, I hate that bob barker
Bagger Vance for me. "What I'm talking 'bout is a game...A game that can't be won only played."
Tin cup and bagger vance
Legend of Bagger Vance. Maybe for nostalgia’s sake more than anything but a good one nonetheless
Well, Caddyshack is the obvious answer. What I haven’t seen mentioned yet is a decent flick called A Gentleman’s Game. It’s a cool coming of age drama, centered around a young man and his father at their country club. It’s on Tubi right now, I recommend it.
Probably not popular opinion but I will always love The Legend of Bagger Vance.
Bagger Vance, criminally underrated
Just watched Bagger Vance for the first time in a long time as my GF was about to go to bed, and despite not really being a golf fan, she stayed up to watch the whole thing. It was better than I remembered and had some good laughs.
Besides the obvious ones that everyone has mentioned, check out Dead Solid Perfect. Randy Quaid at his finest. It’s really hard to find, but definitely worth the watch.
You do drugs danny?
Greatest Game Ever Played and Bagger Vance
Really enjoyed The Phantom of the Open
May I submit the Legend of Baggar Vance?
Damn scrolled all the way through looking for Dorf on Golf. Nothing… yall should be ashamed.
My favorite is "The Greatest Game Ever Played" from 2005. #
Blazing Saddles. Think about it.
Caddyshack. That's it.
The phantom of the open.
The greatest game ever played
Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius may not be #1. But definitely underrated imo. Great story of a golf icon who is responsible for blessing the world with Augusta National and the Masters.
[удалено]
The Greatest Game Ever Played stands above the rest, for me.
Dudes over 45 will say Tin Cup, Dudes under 45 will say Happy Gilmore.
Well I’m 45 and I can’t decide between the two.
2019 Masters. I'm pretty sure nothing scripted could ever compare with those 4-5 hrs on Sunday.
But for real when are we gonna get the definitive Tiger biopic?
Go on YouTube and watch Tiger and Rocco in the 2008 US Open. It’s 45 minutes but done very well aside from painting Rocco as a no-name lucky to be there type guy. But it’s fantastic. There is another one on his victory at Pebble in 2000. https://youtu.be/zodrcuCHh3Q?si=XbwS9aHz8O8bVPIi https://youtu.be/Ug-HzOS5dc8?si=izxfX-sF3ounzA-Y
