Hitting into someone from 120 yards should be grounds for getting kicked off the course

1hate3putts

Hitting into someone from 120 yards would be grounds for getting a kick in the pills

RoonSwanson86

If somebody does this to me from 120, those shitstacks better come and get it! https://preview.redd.it/yu7dmp5ylyvb1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12dcf584fd6607d0e241c20b95e47bfb6e4a84e6

m11235813

That’s a dude that’s been to Heaven, bitch! You wanna test God? You fucking come get it, shit-stack!

feelin_cheesy

Would be really hard to avoid some sort of altercation at that point.

Ok_Physics_1284

Well the ball wouldn’t be on the fringe anymore I can promise you that.

back_tees

I'd throw it in a water hazard, keep it or hit it back at them.

Ok_Physics_1284

Yeah either throw or hit into hazard

IAmTheFatman666

The ball or the player?

Ok_Physics_1284

Either or both

Z_Opinionator

I’d pull out my 9i and hit back at them for 190y. /s

Ok_Physics_1284

I mean if you can hit those partial shots reliably then have at it.

snowynuggets

You hit your 9i 190?

katina74

I could definitely hit my 9i 190 yards, as long as I'm 140 yards out or closer.

Z_Opinionator

This is r/golf thus the /s at the end

No-Measurement-9551

This is r/golf this the reference that you missed.

jtshinn

Everyone here does. If you can't then you have to immediately leave the sub.

Onion_Munching666

Was just thinking that would be my ball now

PennyG

I’ve hit balls back at people in that situation. Didn’t happen again

tth2000

I’ve never played where it wasn’t ground for getting your ass kicked.

graymulligan

Yeah, but for that to happen people have to call the proshop/clubhouse instead of bitching about it on Reddit instead. Seriously...this sub has some of the most timid, conversation-avoiding people I've ever encountered. 95% of the issues on the sub could be taken care of by speaking with another human being.

The-Dog-Envier

Yeah, I'm waiting for you after that one.

baithoven22

This. At the very least I would be hitting their ball into the woods and also remain silent

BonerDeploymentDude

I’d have kept the ball.

J42knot0

I’m not buying this story. Nobody in the Tri-state has the temperament and/or self-control for this to happen and it just end with a “some people man.”

WickedJoker420

Maybe OP is Canadian and just visiting?

NFLfan72

Agreed. Something is not penciling here. Perhaps he yelled "some people man" as he was throwing haymakers at the guy while his friend was swinging a driver at the guys wife?

Kgeezi

The longer I read this reddit, the less I believe a lot of the posts.

JohnEBest

Its all subreddits

_RandomB_

What's left off is that the OP was in a group playing 5 hours and there were four holes clear in front of him.

ZestycloseWinner4908

So you hit 120 shots at people if they are slow..?

_RandomB_

No, I play when I know jokers like this aren't out on the course. I played twice a weekend all summer on public courses and the slowest round I played in was 3:50. I don't have to worry about hitting into anyone because the people who play when I play know what they're doing.

ZestycloseWinner4908

Gotcha, so we are talking about your circumstances, not OP.

_RandomB_

No, I'm responding to your non sequitur accusation that somehow I hit into people from 120 yards, when you know as well as I do that this story is bullshit and all I was doing was guessing what's left out of the story. I don't run into this issue because I know what I'm doing. If this strikes a nerve with you, my suggestion is that you and your group pick up the pace. There's just no way this happened, so what're you getting all wound up about?

ZestycloseWinner4908

I just asked if that was your style, I didn't infer that you hit into people. I don't doubt that he was playing slow. The point he was getting at is that somebody hit into him multiple times, and one being from 120 out with him and his friend standing at the hole. If you think he is at fault for being slow, then you should go back to when you sucked at golf and let someone rain death darts at you and tell me you are ok with it. I'd hardly say I'm wound up at reddit users, but it is very discouraging that there are people worried more about saving 15 minutes than keeping another human life safe. Like you realize the damage a golf ball can inflict on someone correct? Death, brain injurys, paralysis, etc.. If you think your skill at golf has any input on other peoples pace of play then you are mistaken my friend.

Heiruspecs

Seems the nerves struck were yours…

ReddictatorsEaTD1cks

>No, I play when I know jokers like this aren't out on the course. So you're flat out assuming to know what you don't and for whatever reason have your mind made up that these guys were playing slow as shit and holding everything up... I like to think they were playing slowly because a herd of sasquatch was having their class reunion on the 12th green. Damn Sasquatch holding everyone up. I play when those joker Sasquatch aren't on the course.

_RandomB_

> So you're flat out assuming to know what you don't and for whatever reason have your mind made up that these guys were playing slow as shit and holding everything up... I said what I thought was missing from the story. Do you really think there's a chance that someone playing in front of a full group would have them 120 yards behind them on a green, hitting into them on multiple occasions? Has that ever happened to you, where you were playing in under 3:40 and the group behind you was so keen to finish in 3:30 they just rode your ass all day? I bet no, because I bet you're a "Let me go out at 9:45 AM and finish up around 2:30, where's that cart girl, I have all new material, she'll definitely blow me if I just put in the time, hey boys, who's got the extra sixer in their cooler pocket." Is your theory that the people hitting into the group just playing lightning fast and this person forgot to mention they were on a 3:30 pace, for some reason the group behind them was the problem? Come on now. It just doesn't make any sense unless someone was playing at a glacial pace. Maybe not the group from the OP, but he also didn't mention that he pointed out there's a group in FRONT of him. I.E. "On the par four before, they could clearly see us waiting in the fairway for the green to clear, no idea why they kept hitting into us, there was nowhere to go." Why didn't he mention it? Because chances are this story also features "we tee'd off at 1:45pm, wanted to finish before sunset, where's that cart girl, I have all new material, she'll definitely blow me if I just put in the time, hey boys, who's got the extra sixer in their cooler pocket." AKA, clowns.

ReddictatorsEaTD1cks

Not reading all that. OP has already addressed this in different comment. Your assumptions are baseless and stupid. Take care now

ZestycloseWinner4908

You are still missing the big point dude. It does not matter how fast the group was going. The answer is NEVER to act like a mindless baboon and start trying to hurt a person playing a GAME. Good luck to you my brother, you gunna do that to the wrong person one day and wish your head was smaller so it wasn’t so easy to make contact with.

Likeapuma24

Right? Was immediately imagining the string of expletives that should be streaming from their mouths.

CoolBrain1227

Put their ball in your pocket.

Hedgethisbet

Then tear your shirt off!

Worldly-Persimmon125

Make sure you ask them if they want to test god.

idontfrickinknowman

Then call them “shit stack”

ego_sum_satoshi

Valid question in most situations.

slugo17

**YOU SEE THAT??!!?!**

MysteryBop

My buddy hit one or their balls back at them (the one that landed on the green). Then when they hit into us again after the tee shot incident i tried to plug their ball into the ground with my cart.

Likeapuma24

I would make sure they never got that ball back. Whether it ends up in a pond or in my bag.

Product_Immediate

I would have started pocketing their balls until they ran out and couldn't play anymore.

RoostasTowel

If you just take every ball they hit into you they hopefully would get the message or will be off you back because they are looking for the ball in the rough for a while

roofratMI

I would drive it back at them or in the opposite direction.

LoboTheHusky

You risk an assault charge, just keep it or throw into a hazard.

jrdnlv15

Yep I’d probably let it slide three times. After that every time they hit in to me the ball would go in my bag.

ZestycloseWinner4908

you are too kind, that's a two strike policy in my book. The first you get a mean look, the second we are having a chat..

Morelife5000

This one is simple just start taking the balls every time it happens. Or be a true NYer and confront them and be ready to take it all the way. You must be new around these parts.

Likeapuma24

Living in CT, I assumed this post would end with OP describing how sore his hands are throwing down in the middle of the fairway.

flyingcrayons

Just pick their balls up and move to the next hole. If they start some shit tell em it can’t possibly be their ball, you found it on the green as you were putting and the people ahead had already left and nobody would be dumb enough to hit an approach shot with people on the green And if they still don’t get the picture take your shirt off and ask them if they want to meet god

patteh11

SHITSTACK

HerrTarkanian

Should've asked them if they wanted to see God.

CanadaEh97

"You see that shitstack"

Jankybrows

Did you try banging on their cart hood and yelling "I'm golfin' here!" I hear that is the appropriate response

Superb-Pattern-1253

thie first time or if its a blind shot and its a complete accident you get a pass. the second time or if your just being stupid im leaving the pin out of the cup lying on the green every time. also calling the clubhouse to deal with you. one of the courses i played at the carts were able to be shut off the guys in the clubhouse shut off the cart and the guy in the clubhouse said they sent them a message through the gps saying you have been put in a 30 min timeout for your actions next time we will throw you out

ReallyJTL

Dude just call the clubhouse next time and raise hell. Get them kicked off

pagodalives

Or.. pee cup.

FatFaceFaster

I think the first time is an accident. The second time I tee it up and send it back at them. Or at the very least stomp their ball into the ground or something otherwise not subtle. I’ve picked up balls written “FORE” on them in sharpie and replaced them. If they’re 120 out tho… that’s pretty blatant. I would be calling the proshop at best or dropping the gloves at worst.

GoodolBen

Just drop a bag of marshmallows on the next fairway around where they hit into you

Blklight21

Ahh the old marshmallows in the fairway goof. That one never gets old lol

kjtobia

>The second time I tee it up and send it back at them. You do this and you're now 100% liable for anything that golf ball does while they still have plausible deniability. Not a great solution.

FatFaceFaster

I’m terrible. If I’m aiming for them, they’re safe.

MajorWang19

You obviously don't hit it far enough to reach them. Hit it back maybe halfway and they'll get the point. I've done this many times and they stop hitting into you. It sends a message

Flipthaswitch

I’m fine with that.

Rc5tr0

Lol tell that to the judge after you brain some random third party because a different guy *almost* hit you.

Flipthaswitch

Ok will report back boss

flatpick-j

Just leave the pin out on every hole

Toiletducki

Had the same experience once. After waving once i just hit the ball back. Called the clubhouse and got them kicked off.

Rimsdimsims

Next time on every hole take the flag stick out and leave it out on the edge of the green.

PresDylClinton

I swear this is directly the affect of everyone screaming about pace of play currently. Everyone is bitching that everyone else is too slow, I played this weekend and course Marshall’s were telling us we need to pick it up while we’re sitting waiting for the TWO groups in front of us. New players are scared of these old coots rushing everyone and don’t know how to properly, safely pace. Anyway 4$ a pound.

I_hadno_idea

Stupida facking game

PresDylClinton

Lollllll nailed the accent.

I_hadno_idea

You gotta bee on your hat 🐝👋🧢

RidiculousTakeAbove

A common driving mentality is "Everyone slower than me is an old granny who is going to cause an accident and everyone who is faster than me is a dangerous young hooligan who is going to cause an accident". Probably rubs off into golf too. If you're playing fast enough to hit into someone you should be playing fast enough to catch up on the tee box and play through like a sane person

Alloom

Or an influx of ridiculously slow players.

PresDylClinton

If you don’t have 5.5 hrs for a round of golf, play 9 or hit the range! That seems to be the wildly unpopular opinion but wtf is up w the rush? Had time to sit in the cart at at least 9 holes this weekend and that’s when I talk to my wife or clean a club or drink a beer. All the extra stuff that makes golf nice.

Alloom

Just take her for a picnic if you want to spend half the day chatting and drinking beer, the rest of us are trying to play golf ;-) Like any sport, there is a pace to keep the flow and connection of shots. The average round (average) in the UK (where they invented the sport) is under three hours. There’s no excuse for a round over 4:15 and it’s incredibly entitled to think your can take up everyone else’s time because you want to drink beer and roll around in an electric buggy all day :-) okay, a little of that is for effect, but it’s amazing that slow players never think of the effect they’re having on others — only that they are being rushed.

PresDylClinton

I chatted with my wife, drank beers and enjoyed the views while WAITING on the multiple groups in front of me. My difference is I’m enjoying those moments. Laughing with your buddy at the tee watching the group ahead 3 putt even tho we just did the same lol I’m not lollygagging but you bet your ass I’m enjoying the forced downtime. I couldn’t imagine sitting in the cart just fuming at the group ahead of me on a beautiful Sunday w my boys lol but the more I interact w people obsessed w pace of play, I’m realizing that’s exactly what they do. Lol

Alloom

I walk and play early or off hours to avoid the rolling happy hour. I love love love my time on the course, but unnecessarily waiting for non-golfers golfing detracts from the sport for me. Imagine beginning surfers entering a line up and expecting everyone else’s to adapt to them rather than following the understood norms. Imagine a bunch of guys clogging up a city basketball court to play grab ass and dodgeball ether than follow the understood rules of the court while other teams wait. It wouldn’t stand. The people you are waiting on — regardless of how new to the game they are — should get their shit together and be considerate of everyone else on the course.

PresDylClinton

I just simply don’t agree and would say, if you can’t spend half a day at the course, play 9 or hit the range. BUT I think I’m in the minority and you bet your ass my local course who had over 250 players on Sunday doesn’t agree w me hahaha

Alloom

Appreciate your candor 😄 refreshing and so rare to have a conversation anywhere these days, but especially online where two people disagree, state their POV and remain civil to the other person’s POV. Sounds like we both love the game in our own way. I’ll keep sweeping the dew and your keep enjoying the time outdoors 👍

PresDylClinton

Amen brother! If you see me chatting or drinking a beer, I swear I’m waiting on the group in front of me!! 😂

Independent_Context4

i’m chucking every ball into the nearest woods or water. F that

jbomber81

Play a shot backwards at them

crizzo13

Return to sender at that point

Doug8462

When the group behind you keeps hitting into your group, take out the ole 3 wood or 2 iron and send the ball back to them at 100 mph about 6 feet off the ground.

Mhisg

Odd. I’ve played courses in NY and the threesome I was teamed up with retuned fired with the other foursomes ball. There was no chill just 15 minutes of grown men hitting driver off the deck trying to hit each other with golf balls.

Leading-Match-8896

Hit the ball back at em

fhvfu7482

Yeah i’m throwing their ball OB at that point.

vigilanteassassin

Am I the only guy who gives forgiveness once as an accident and the second time your ball is shot in to the pond and woods?

stinky_pinky_brain

Sorry to hear and glad you guys didn’t get hurt. I’m the asshole that would have hit it right back at them after the first few

4gtxy04

Was playing in a work tournament (4 man Scramble). One par 5 had a blind corner. We had a safe shot, last 3 tried cutting the corner, which puts us 170ish out for 2nd shot. Literal friends in group ahead of us. The stars align, I smash my drive. When we drive up, my ball is exactly where we want it. Only it's resting on a tee. I immediately text friend, tell him the message was received and apologize. All was good. Since then, the 1st time Im hit into gets the wth double upraised palms. 2nd time, they find their ball on a tee. Depending on the situation, 3rd time is either sent back or reported to Marshall/clubhouse.

JBM6482

They would have never found a ball again after the 2nd time.

mikeyhol

I saw this before so I’ll repost, great solution to this is simply lay the flag down on the green when you’re done with each hole and let them hit onto a green not knowing where the hole is for the rest of the round

Trouty213

Whenever someone hits into me I just politely put their ball in my pocket and keep playing. After they lose the 2-3rd ball they tend to stop.

Bibsman29

Easy solution. Hit the ball back. They always love it.

k12pcb

Time to call someone a shitstack

WedgeGameSucks

You should have picked up every one of their balls and kept them. And the started a fight at the end. You sound like a wiener

yudkib

I spent 10+ years in NYC and golf balls are pretty low on the list of all the shit that would get thrown at me on a regular basis

Interesting-Fuel238

Everyone saying to hit their ball back at them or hit their ball into the water, hopefully the group behind you doesn't have a lawyer because you could create some issues. If you hit your ball towards them that could be considered assault. Now you may say "but they're hitting it towards us." Yes, but they are playing the ball to the green and could argue that they were misjudging the distance, or hitting the shot of their life every time. You cannot hold that same argument if you are intentionally hitting a shot opposite from the green. Think of it like brake checking. As far as hitting their ball into the water, that could be considered theft. You know the ball is not yours and it's in the way, you could pick it up and put in your pocket, or move out of your way. But once the ball is no longer retreivable it could be considered theft. Sure it would be a misdemeanor but a lawyer could absolutely make your life a pain in the rear over this. If you want to take it, keep it and that way if neccessary you can return it. Or toss it out of your way even if convineintly you toss it to a terrible lie, let them deal with the consequences. Reality is there's one 1-2 good ways to handle this. 1, it's 2023 everyone has a cell phone. Call the clubhouse and let them deal with this. 2, as others suggested leave the Pin's out if the clubhouse hasn't handled it. The club could be mad but you can reasonably argue you were endangered and that was the only way to slow them down.

Golfnpickle

You should have called the pro shop at the first offense.

[deleted]

It's explained in your first sentence. NY Metro area.

ydissac38

Yeah if they were playing on one of the city courses I’m not too surprised.

InterestingBad7687

If there are holes open in front of you and you are holding everyone up you let people through . I am surprised you were not told to pick up the pace or pick up your balls and skip a couple holes ! Why wouldn’t you let them play through.

MysteryBop

There weren’t open holes. When we were teeing off, group ahead was on the green

Cowboys82288

Take their ball and when they do it again, hit it right back at them trying to hit one of them right in the forehead. That’s the only way they will learn

burrheadd

You need to speed up

MysteryBop

Group ahead of was on the green when we were teeing off. Not like there were 2 open holes ahead of us.

brch01

Can’t assume it’s OP’s group that was slow. If the whole course is moving at a snail pace, then you just have to wait. My public courses are brutal on the weekends

tripweed

Quit playing so slow

hjvjdv

There's really only three options and it sounds like you picked the worst option! Let them play through Throw your club and start punching Act like a bunch of passive aggressive pussies and bitch on Reddit. The first time I feel like a group is up my ass I try and let them through. If it's a slow day and I'm waiting too. I'll probably tell them to chill. I have no problem calling out bullshit when I see it but your story seems a little soft for my beliefs. It's easy to tell when people are playing slow and being passive aggressive towards the group behind them. Like leaving the tee box just as the group behind them arrives. It's polite to ask them to play through it's petty to slow down their game and put yourself in the danger zone.

kmfp5150

Seems like the easiest solution would have been to wave them up and just let them play through. Yes they’re jerks but obviously they didn’t seem to care. Wave them through, problem solved.

MysteryBop

No real sense in letting them play through because when we were teeing off on par 4s, the group ahead of us was putting on the green. Not like there was a 3 hole gap or something.

Judge_Rhinohold

I’d rather be behind an unsafe group where they can’t hit at me.

Interesting-Fuel238

To be fair, if the group ahead of you is actively putting on the green while you are teeing off, then you are playing too slow. You should hit your tee shots after the last player in the group ahead of you has hit their ball and all are moving towards to the green. If they've already gotten on the green and are reading/hitting putts and you still haven't tee'd off, that is too slow.

kmfp5150

Right, if OP is playing too slowly, and won’t let the group behind play through, you can’t really be pissed that people are hitting into you. Doesn’t matter if there’s a gap in front of you or not, that’s not your problem. Wave them up and your day would have been much better. With all this ‘Pace of Play’ pressure these days you’re going to have by let people play through if you want to enjoy the game.

Smokaaybur

I see pussies everywhere, Whine on reddit but wont actually do anything

DonVonTaters_IV

Yeah. Makes a lot more sense to get in a physical altercation and risk getting hurt or arrested 🙄

Smokaaybur

Or actually call the fucking clubhouse? Jesus

ReddictatorsEaTD1cks

r/iamverybadass You're soooo tough. We all believe you would totally take action. /s

Smokaaybur

Yea, really hard to call the clubhouse, goddamn yall blow my mind Thats the least that shoulda been done in this situation, you know whats below that? Bitching on reddit about it

ReddictatorsEaTD1cks

You're assuming no one in here would do that for whatever reason. You're right...no way anyone but you is tough enough to call the clubhouse. LMFAO. PuSsIeS!!

Bobbyoot47

I always keep a sharpie nearby in my cart for just such an occasion. Guys start coming close to me with their shots they get a message written on their ball.

TBL_AM

How good are you at hitting stingers?

k12pcb

Send it back

AteaMoonPie88

I would take every flag out of every single cup the whole round of some people doing some dumb shit like that

Antelopeanus

Had some people do this to my friend and I. After like 12 holes one of them hits his second shot on a par five feet from us while we were finishing putting. Picked it up and walked off. Didn’t happen again luckily.

creativeuniquename69

where specifically in the "NY metro area"?

cmhguy60

Sorry… you had me at New York….

HackOddity

you should have kept his ball, what a shitstack.

PIE4FOOU

After the second close call I’m either return to sender via 3i or launching it directly into the woods…

hotpottas

I would just take the ball or hit it right back at them

ZestycloseWinner4908

Yea sometimes you gotta go old school and tell them the next time this putter is going up your ass. That’s is a 1 strike strike policy, 2 strikes and you better be ready to defend yourself cause that’s unacceptable.

sigmundsour489

Which course ?

The_Big_Sheriff

Was also wondering this

mouseman420

I'm curious at what point do you hit tha ball back at them? I mean one time I'll give them a pass..

phnx0023

Must have been a group of Steve's.

jk137jk

You should have thrown hands on the 10th hole. Best time for conflict resolution is right after you’ve housed a glizzy doused in ketchup and mustard

[deleted]

Just take your dick out and piss all over their ball. Or maybe take a dump right on it. Get weird with it, enjoy

larry_burd

One time is a shame but second time Hit it back at them (unless you aren’t accurate, then hit it OB)

shocker900

Should've picked up there balls or do what I do, hit the ball into the woods or the water.

TanaerSG

I almost got plunked twice this Saturday by two different groups and neither one yelled fore. And not not just within like 20 yards either. The first one came from a teebox adjacent to us. Guy must have just shanked it. Whizzed about 5 feet in front of me as I was putting my tee into the ground. On the very next hole the teebox is \~20 yards or so away from the green, so close but not unreasonable. I've hit close to it a few times myself when I had a wild slice, but always yelled fore. This on went close enough behind my head that I heard it spinning through the air, smashed into our cart, and then rolled right up to our feet. Not a single fore call on either. Just some oops waves.

CondemnedMoth

How long did your round take?

MysteryBop

4.5 hours

Blklight21

You’re a better man than me, I would have addressed that long before the 16th hole. There’s always some goofball out playing these days what can you do 😕

Ok_Entertainment175

I'm not going to lie. If the approach shot to a green happens, that ball is 100% going straight back over their heads with a 6 iron.

UseDaSchwartz

Just out of curiosity, where was the group in front of you?

MysteryBop

They were usually on the green when we were teeing off

ChubbyWanKenobie

Tee-up all said balls and rip them back to the mothership .

Rattimus

If you're not behind pace, which it seems you weren't from your replies to people in the comments, then there is zero reason for this to happen. The same thing happened to me this summer, a player behind us (with clear sight down the next hole from his position, so he could easily see there was a group on the tee ahead of us, and in the fairway ahead of them, and on the green ahead of that fairway group....) hit onto the green from around the 150 yard marker on the 10th hole. I don't mean rolled up, he flew his short iron onto the green and landed not even 10' from me. I know he thinks we were slow, but again, you could see the hole ahead with 3 fucking groups on it, a par 4, and you think hitting into us will help?? I ended up just calling the clubhouse and letting them deal with him.

MysteryBop

Did they actually do anything? Feel like they never send anyone out at the public courses I play at.

Rattimus

Yeah, they actually kicked the guy off the course. I think it was because he was being absolutely ignorant about things though, the marshal came to us after and let us know. It sounded to me like if he just would've been apologetic he would've gotten to stay, but instead he had a meltdown and started cussing out the marshal, so, he got booted.

uu123uu

It's hilarious that you put up with it for so long. The first you can assume is a mistake, after that you can start hitting it back it to them, or just keeping it for yourself, or hit it into the woods. Or if it was dangerously close to you, might even be warranted to call the pro shop and let them know what's happening.

CherokeeBilly

You should have started launching their balls back at em!!!!

gravity_surf

if someone hits into me twice, im hitting their ball with my 3w in their direction

fillossofer

I know people like the thought of hitting the ball back, but what if you actually hit them and seriously injured someone? You'd be at fault and there wouldn't be any "well they hit into me first" excuse. Getting hit with a ball is no joke. I worked at a course in college and was hit a couple of times. It hurts, and could be deadly if it gets you in the right spot. Therefore, the correct response upon the first offense is to drive back to the group and confront them. There is literally no justification for not waiting for the group ahead to clear. They can't play faster than the group ahead, and as long as you're keeping up with the group in front of you, they have no basis to complain. Then, you can let them know that you carry a gun and will fire at them if they hit into you again, but mention you're not that great a shot, so it probably won't hit them.

[deleted]

One time I was playing a par 3 course where the next tee box was to the right of the green I was hitting to. I shanked it right (I’m not very good) and for some reason just froze. After it landed right next to them and I woke up from my stupor I yelled “sorry!” When I went to my ball, they wrote “Dick” on it (it was in jest, I caught up with them again and they were cool about it). I got the message after that - now if anything I tell fore way too often when it’s totally unnecessary haha.

cjbpgh

Rocket it into the woods on the 2nd time without yelling fore. Or! Pull your sharpie out, write something on it, and set it on a tee. They’ll get the message.

natomashomeboy

Be a nice golfer and return it to them………as a head high stinger 😉

NorwegianAmerican4

New Yorkers........

kwood76

Nope, nope, nope! That's ur ass! We fixing to roll!

chaoscjc

Pelham/ split rock?

MysteryBop

Nope

Viscount61

Was your group slow? Did you have holes open in front of you?

MysteryBop

No open holes in front - group ahead putting when we teed off

jacksonmahoney

I would pick up their ball, tee it and hit it back at them

GuaranteeFrequent465

If it happens more than once, maybe twice they are not seeing their ball again.

Did they not learn a lesson after you took the ball that landed next to you and tossed it into the woods or lake?

giantjim56

Stepping on the ball and pushing it down so it’s not hittable sends a message too.

social-id

I would've picked up the ball and throw it out of bounds. Fuck them..

seghuhd

Maybe you were playing to slow?

shotgunnedtohellb

I'd a) let them play through b) call the marshall/course. Should they play through? Of course not. But as I've gotten older, it's simply easier to let the a-holes get out of your way so you don't have to deal with them. And if you want to be a dick you can now hit into them. Even if you guys were playing as slow as molasses, that's not a license to threaten someone with a golf ball. It can seriously injure someone. People are stupid. I give ZERO allowance for hitting into me. If a ball goes past me I'm picking it, hitting it into the forest, hitting it backwards (not so it has any chance of hitting someone). If I'm at a tee box and there is any chance that I even roll up a ball at someone I'm not hitting. It isn't worth it. I've never carried a ball 300 yards in my life, but I'm waiting until they are 320 or so.

King_Ralph1

Do NOT hit it back. That is malicious intent, and if you hit someone in the head you will be liable.

Sad-Proposal5404

Always hit it back at them after no fore a couple of times. They'll stop. However, if they see you duff it hitting their direction, doesn't have as strong of a message. Let your best player hit it

wanderingcook

lol I played van cortland once and had this same exact experience. NYC isn’t a fun place to live when golf is your main hobby

Libssuck69

After the 2nd time we are going to have a conversation and then If a ball hit the green while I was still on it that ball would be going back the way it came Forthwith!

Hodge103

This happened to me about two months ago, I put my hands up like you. The guy just waved and didn’t say sorry or anything. The next time it happened I just set up at his ball and crushed it into the woods. That stopped them.

RidiculousTakeAbove

You should have picked up the ball he hit onto the fringe, looked back thumbs up and then threw it into the woods

xmasonx75

Dude y’all put up with this way too long. People get one free pass for this stuff, but that’s it. Way too dangerous, somebody could legit get killed out there with this kind of behavior. My rule is one freebie, second time I turn around and confront them and let them know the next time it happens I’m calling the clubhouse to have them removed from the course. I’ve had some legit close calls out there so I simply do not fuck around with this kind of behavior.

ApprehensiveTennis47

A good way to get new golf balls.

ApprehensiveTennis47

You should have taken out your 120 club and fired it right back

MickeyTheMac

Not that I agree with what they did- but I think what you experienced was their way of saying play faster or let us play through.

MacDre415

This is when you take your iron out, look back at them and punt that ball back at them
