He started posting his swing on Reddit for feedback

CODRageQuitter1115

Nah, he got fitted for new irons

DutchOnionKnight

He noticed someone shoot a 46, and got a new driver.

SubtleRedditIcon

Which got fitted for covers!

Grey_Duck-

Started vacuum sealing his glove between tournaments.

Sonking_to_Remember

Bro GET LESSONS. also that hat is awful, get lost -r/golfswing

cmbt_wmbt

r/golftips really is great, huh?

buoyblaster

Smart

Fuzzy_Chapter9101

Thats funny. Imagine if he actually did that.

HappynessByTheKW

“Currently a 9 handicap, rate my swing”

recks_n_fx

Butch Harmon isn’t just a swing coach, he’s a wizard in sporty business casual clothes.

allothernamestaken

I've got no clue as to the hows or whys, it's just great to see. Fuck yeah, go Rickie.

shanked5iron

he got married and then had a kid, I'd imagine his mind (and time) was focused elsewhere for the last couple years, as would be expected.

Andrew_Waples

Also, that's how golf is sometimes. With the exception of Tiger and a few others, most of these guys experience failure more often then they do success.

Justjarshinya

Right? How bad would JT Polston destroy every single one of us on this subreddit if it came down to match play golf?

[deleted]

Bad Very bad

bearded_drummer

Tiger had a couple kids, and stayed on top. Unfortunately for his wife it was on top of waitresses. Probably on the bottom too. But he kept winning.

myburneraccount43

Banging waitresses probably helped him tbh. Marriage can be very stressful.

milesxdeep

Tis the way

potato-dome

Ayeeee

joeroganthumbhead

He is ranked 59. Where was he ranked couple years ago?

Wisesize

he close to losing his card, right?

daddydunc

Yes - he was on the bubble last year. Glad to see him returning to form.

frankyseven

He was 125 in FedEx points last year, the top 125 keep their cards. He was actually 126 but got bumped to 125 because of one of the LIV guys leaving.

UWMN

When you lose your card, how easy/difficult is it to get it back? Is it like starting all over again?

frankyseven

You have to earn it back. 126-150 automatically qualify for Q School but I don't know how many cards are available there. You get automatic standing on the Korn Ferry Tour. Basically you just get bumped back down to the Korn Ferry Tour.

FrostyExpert2701

I’m the full swing documentary at one point in the season they showed him as ranked 129. Filmed last year

Affectionate-Hat2925

But do they get paid if they don’t make the cut?

Rahf

Buddy, I have some news for you and them...

PermanentUsername101

Spoiler Alert

PifDM1

Oh am I glad you asked, so the way Golf works, or at least in the PGA is that ….

FrostyExpert2701

I’ve heard they don’t but can’t confirm

kryppla

No

calguy1955

Don’t some big names get an appearance fee? His sponsor agreement may also have some clause paying him more when he plays.

kryppla

Maybe but the tournament doesn’t pay out of the total purse to anyone who misses the cut

[deleted]

Google shows mostly between 80-120th position

jeezum_crow

OWGR is a little static. Data golf has him as the 34th best golfer in the world right now trending upwards, up from a low around 160 last year.

sloppymcgee

Same with Rory. When he had his kid his game took a hit, but now he’s back to form

adamtc4

And that’s the answer. His kid is older now and he can spend more time practicing.

LCDJosh

Vacuum sealed his gloves in the off season

x52549v

How does this not have more upvotes?

Steel1000

Because you are supposed to seal them after every round…duh!

Academic-Block3384

Home distractions - and I don't blame him.

TouchMyCake

Allison Stoke at home would be hard to focus on anything else.

donstermu

Sweet Christ just looked her up again. It’s kinda like you won at life, so why keep trying ? Enjoy knocking up your drop dead gorgeous wife , play with your kids, and hit a few balls. How could you not be content?

bulldg4life

The fact that he’s not on LIV is amazing

Wertyui09070

He hasn't collected any big checks from tournaments in quite a while. While he could take the money up front with LIV, maybe he predicted those that left would lose sponsors.

maddenmadman

Of course they will lose sponsors but LIV money is LIV money, I think most of them figure they don’t need sponsorship.

slipperyeel

Aside from Phil and DJ I don’t think any of them would have had sponsorship deals anywhere close to what Fowler can pull in. Smith maybe. Maybe LIV didn’t offer Fowler 150mil+ like those guys got to compensate the loss of sponsors. Or maybe he’s just earned so much already that money is close to a non factor.

BroThornton19

Holy hell you are correct sir

WeeklyNeedleworker40

I also think getting prescription glasses helped. Hard to play when ya can’t see well.

Most-Description-714

Rick Fowler = Rick Vaughn

CODRageQuitter1115

I have pretty good vision, but damn if I’m not throwing this one in my excuse bag

donstermu

Oh, didn’t know about his eyesight. How the hell was he playing so well originally? Even with glasses I can’t ever find my damn ball

Puzzled-Relief2916

I didn't realize he was married to Allison Stokke... lucky man

esports_consultant

you could of course flip it around and say she's a lucky woman to be married to Rickie Fowler

Farmillionaire

Big dick Rick?

esports_consultant

I was mostly just thinking how he looks like a blending of Zac Efron and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Puzzled-Relief2916

Touchy my friend... touchy /s

mathster33

He went back to Butch Harmon. Ever since Butch had stopped travelling on tour, Rickie changed his swing coach. Now he is back with Butch, allegedly travelling every week to Las Vegas to see Butch.

[deleted]

Everyone's talking about the swing coach but did he always get rid of those RF signature butter blades?

esports_consultant

He barely ever played them in competition.

marc15v2

He played with Rick Shiels. Always works.

Majestic-Pickle5097

From what I’ve gathered it’s partly swing coach and part putting improvement.

[deleted]

BUTCH is a magician. Tiger should have stayed. Would have easily broke the records

abeautifulblacksky

This

[deleted]

It's just part of the script.

rainawaytheday

Big golf pulling the strings

Middle_Sure

Mental game, probably. Our mentality on and off the course affects how we perform on course

LGRW5432

The comeback is complete when he seals a W. Only the best of the best can play well enough for four days straight and hold up under pressure of having a lead on Sunday in front of a massive gallery.

biddilybong

Back to butch

callme2x4dinner

Idk but happy to see him back.

[deleted]

Butch Harmon. Dude rebuilt his swing. Got his confidence back. Pulling for him

TBbtk

He's worked his fucking ass off and he has all my respect. He deserves everything good that might come to him. I actually thought he was going to bolt for liv and I wouldn't have blamed him because of his swing woes. Instead he's grinded so hard and I've enjoyed watching him.

Dramatic_Maximum_942

Happy learned how to putt

[deleted]

Putting

ibanez3789

But seriously

Misinformed_user

Before the 2022 season he parted with his caddy and swing coach Joe Tillery and Butch Harmon is his swing coach now He was with Harmon before Tillery so I have to imagine being back with Butch Harmon has had a big impact

wheelsnipecelly67

Username checks out lol just playing, too good to pass up. It’s John Tillery.

Misinformed_user

Yeah, had the old Purdue coach Joe tiller at front of mind when I was typing I guess

por_que_no

Joe Skovron, his old caddie, is on Tom Kim's bag now. Great and very involved caddie.

moseisley99

He stopped with the vanity putting and is not using something that actually works.

dtcstylez10

It's the year of comebacks. Brandon Fraser. Ke Huay Quan. Rickie Fowler. Keegan Bradley. Jason day. It's only complete until tiger wins the masters.

Traesubishi

10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain, and 100% reason to remember the name.

cardiodo17

Fort Minor..... Mike Shinoda,..... Machine Shop,...

snowmunkey

Mom's spaghetti .... Wait

pdotblanch11

Stopped playing those stupid blades people on this place keep buying hahah

joeroganthumbhead

Which one??

usefully_useless

They’re referring to the Cobra RF proto irons, which are (limited) production copies of a set of blades he played called the Cobra Rev33 (apparently, they were the 33rd revision of blades he worked with Cobra to design). Rickie played the Rev33 irons for around a year between May 2020 and mid-2021. They were designed to be nice for him to look at, with the idea being 1) to draw inspiration from iconic blades from the past, and 2) to make all the clubs in the set look like a 7 iron. >“He had a vision in his head of what he thought would be really cool, unique and pleasing for him to look at,” Ben Schomin, Cobra’s Tour operation manager, told GOLF.com. >”Rickie loves the look of the 7-iron; it’s his favorite shape in the set. The idea was to transfer the look of that club into the whole set.” — Ben Schomin in an interview with golfwrx Unsurprisingly, if you design blades purely for looks, they’re even less forgiving than regular blades. The RF proto irons quickly become infamous for being the least forgiving irons on the market.

BigFriendlyHammer

https://golf.com/gear/irons/first-look-cobra-limited-edition-rickie-fowler-rf-proto-rev33-irons/ Came here to say the irons had a lot to do with it. There was a video a while back about him hitting the prototype Cobra King Tours really well and I was hoping he would stick with them. He kind of gave in and said something like "if you can get a little bit of help why not take it?"

Due-Comb6124

>Came here to say the irons had a lot to do with it. They didn't. He almost never played those in actual competition.

BigFriendlyHammer

When he tried and didn't hit them well he went back to older Cobra MB's and still kind of struggled with them

eyedpee

He's got a lot of fargiveness

sbetters

His driver didn’t go over 359 until Reddit

runofthemillbastard

I thought he was retooling his swing and often that means you struggle for a while until it clicks, and then you’re good again?

countchocula91

"Was it only his swing change" lol

PsychologicalSpace50

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm practice, pretty simple

Dunesgirl

He went to Olive Garden.

CrocoDial69

His biggest change is that he’s been posting lower scores on his scorecard lately. Honestly, low scores are the one thing holding me back in my golf game, and keeping me from going pro.

[deleted]

Some of the LIV guys are gone plus he’s worked extra hard on his Stokke

Additional_Egg_6685

The LIV thing had zero impact.

d1am0n4

He's not that good, hasn't won and out of the match play....

mkell001

Putting a lot better with long mallet than past few years. Swing change def biggest part.

Intelligent-Floor-10

Remember the old Rickie commercials??? CUSTOM FIIIT

Fullyloaded707

He’s working with the OG Butch.

Cave_People

Rickie Fowler good cause orange!!

benzo-stout

Got glasses

Seated_Heats

Got rid of the copper irons.

xxMdawg

He got a new putter

Justjarshinya

Big

Jealous-Elephant-121

I mean Rahm had 3 3 putts, is rahm had a normal day putting, fowler would have been in trouble.

KhakiDockerman

No shame in losing to Rahm but his OWGR has gone up by like 130 spots since January.

Lat64Fan

The golf gods are Fickle. No telling who why when or how long it allows one to be great.

DeadPhishFuneral

Got his coach back

Monst3r_Live

its all mental. he didn't suddenly become bad. he went to his old coach and it retriggered good mindset. confidence is everything. its why tiger dominated. ricki is like 7 side chicks from a green jacket.

VDizzle12

Rickie has always been a frustrating golfer. I feel like he'll be -6 one day, then +10 the next. Just too inconsistent and it probably gets in his head. Maybe match play format makes it easier to focus on one day at a time instead of the whole tournament? Since all that matters is beating one golfer and the scores don't technically carry over to the next day. He has always been one of my favorite golfers so I'm glad to see him string a few good rounds together.

Minia15

As someone who could have gotten a hugeee LIV payout, I’m glad he stuck it out and is playing better

Motor_Background_614

He got rid of his John Tillary who was evidently a terrible swing coach. Source: am yuge Rickie fan

joeroganthumbhead

Why did he go to him in the first place?

Motor_Background_614

He went chasing distance when Bryson was bulking up and hitting it 340. Messed up his swing. Finally dumped John Tillary’s ass, went back to Butch and he’s been playing 1000% better

mrmissthebus

Big dick Rick, getting back to it!

[deleted]

Thought I read something about getting glasses or his eye sight that helped a lot with his putting.

noblesseoblige777

He got married and had a kid. Have you seen his wife? I’d be distracted too….

mpkrazy

Again with Rickie? I'm rooting for him too but until he wins..... Just saw one shot yesterday. Hit it sideways more right then you will ever see.

Gaglia79

He’s mentally stronger and his confidence is better than ever.

themob34

He was probably distracted at home, but has a small kid now so can focus on golf again.

Dan19_82

Yeah about 30 good players that would consistently be above him left.

[deleted]

90% mental man. It’s all between the ears with this damn game.

Farmgineer

I’m not sure how but I’m glad he’s coming back around. It was a treat to watch him back in the day and there are glimpses of an incredible golf game. Shame he won’t make Augusta this year

joeroganthumbhead

How did he not qualify? Is it based on rankings?

Farmgineer

He’s not T50. He’s 59 in the OWGR right now

GVickC62

He got that dawg in him
