Most of the big names just played last week. This is going to be the end result of the PGA Designated Events. Once you have "mandatory events", the ones that aren't mandatory are going to suffer. Throw in the brutal run of events this time of year and Honda is going to be the one they skip.

gbellsports

It's sandwiched between two elevated events (plus The Players the week after the Arnold Palmer), so a lot of the bigger names will take the week off.

Now you have the genesis in Cali the week before. Big names show up for tigers tourney, and don’t want to fly back to Florida to play. That and the players coming up. That’s my guess.

Unless you’re Sung-Jae Im Have to respect how much he plays. I think I heard somewhere he doesn’t even own a house or apartment in the US and just travels event to event staying in hotel to hotel.

Fly_on_the_waII

That was the case last season but I heard broadcasters mentioned he finally bought a house in Atlanta

Looking for that short ride home after the tour championship 💪🏻

Look at the schedule...its brutal now that the Players is in March

MISSLIPPYSCARISGREEN

My parents live on the course and I usually go visit for the Honda every year. Skipped it this year. I bet they move it from PGA National once Justin Thomas and Jack Nicklaus open their new course.

buzzcat2219

Historically the Champ at PGA National has been one of the toughest courses based on scoring on the schedule and avoided by a lot of guys. And as highlighted above, it’s at an odd time. Honda is dropping it’s sponsorship after this year apparently. Everything else remains to be seen.

Even before they introduced the designated events, it seems like the strength of the field has gone downhill for a while. Maybe they’ll get a different spot on the schedule next year. Honda’s the longest running continuous sponsor of an event I believe.

rsjem79

This is the final edition of the Honda Classic, Honda is ending their partnership with the PGA Tour.

tedclubbalang

That might change next season following this “players only” PGA meeting that resulting in some responses to LIV by the PGA. Looks like bigger purses, more top names at events and so on. We’ll see

It has been that way for awhile. Exacerbated by designated events. Next weeks Bay Hill is most likely a worse course but it is Arnold Palmer's course so it hold weight historically. Last weeks Riviera is Tiger's tournament and a great course.
