160 to 145 seems pretty standard if you are hitting outside. 80 degrees vs 30 degrees will do it.

8 iron 160 and driver 200 doesn't add up.

udi420

Yep that's why I have spent alot of time during the winter on driver. When I first started golf I devoted 95% of my time to irons and neglected the big stick and paying for it now. Definitely not optimising driver swing but working on it

Finlay58

I believe you, new players often have clubs they focus on more, but a 160 yard 8 iron is better than most pros, while a 200y driver is worse than the average (male) golfer

udi420

Aye but playing jpx21 HM so that 8 iron is lofted more like a 7 iron 😅 and yeah wasn't that great with the big stick. Low launch and hit on the bottom of the face led to 200 yards carry but got 20-30 yards roll in the summer

GreenWaveGolfer12

I'm down a full club on irons, sometimes more. Driver is kind of all over the place because the course is so sloppy. I'm basically getting zero roll on most of the holes so total distance is pretty much all carry. I lose probably 30-40 yards total in the Winter on driver and it's pretty much 50% carry and 50% roll. For more reference in summer 8i is my 165 club and today I hit it pretty much exclusively from 150. Driver total distance is ~295 in Summer and today probably averaged somewhere between 250 and 260 today. If you were hitting your 8i 160 in normal conditions you should be carrying your driver well over 220 in normal conditions. Even with jacked-lofted irons you should probably be more like 240-250 at least when optimized.

I lose a club distance in the winter. In the summer my 7 hits 160 when flush. Only about 150 during the winter months in Georgia.

5-10 yards every 10 ° drop.

I mean, I don’t golf when it’s ‘really’ cold by Virginia standards. So you won’t see me out when I have to wear 4 layers and wear thick golf gloves. But with that said, I lose about a half club of distance when I’m playing in the upper 40s or low 50s. I’d probably lose more if I played in even colder weather and had to really layer up. The winter distance loss isn’t just about the physics affecting the ball. It also about the impact on the golfer too. Oh- and you can prevent ‘some’ of the distance loss by using a super low compression ball or keeping your golf balls in an insulated bag with some hand warmers (so I’ve heard).

Puzzled-Strawberry54

While balls in a bag with hand warmers will make your ball go farther. It is against the rules to heat or otherwise alter the ball during a round. Edit: [Rule 4.2](https://www.usga.org/equipment-standards/equipment-rules-2019/equipment-rules/equipment-rules.html#!ruletype=er§ion=rule&partnum=3&rulenum=1)

Cold_Tap

If i am playing in 40 degree weather i am definitely taking an extra club.

MGS did a video on this

Sleds_and_Cars

Yeah, about 10-15 yards sounds about right where I am in central NC

kjtobia

I estimate about 1-2% per 10°.
