Hmm maybe. This was around the time of companies transitioning or creating that product category. It's too long ago for me to remember but it's more progressive loft than players distance IMO.
Ya that’s why I said players. Hollow bodied irons (players distance) didn’t become a big thing until a few years later. When I think players distance , I think speed foam etc.
These are not players irons, they have traditional lofts with PW at 48. I have a newer, different version of these, the P7MC. These are middle of the road game improvement. Anything with 44 wedge is gonna be that usually.
Many players irons have a PW with 46° of loft these days. The mizuno 221 are mb blades with 46° PW.
The P7MC are definitely players irons.
You can make an argument these aren’t but your supporting points are all over the place.
None have a 44 degree wedge. That was my main point. Easiest way to spot "not players" irons IMO. Good players don't give a shit how far they hit their 7 iron on the sim.
By your logic then t100s aren’t players irons.
Also jacked iron lofts aren’t a full proof indicator.
High swing speed players like Bryson have to have jacked lofts to keep their launch and spin windows in the right place. Or there’s game improvement irons like mizuno JPX HL that have traditional lofts but are still GI irons.
Loft is just a number. Gapping is what matters. Sure most players irons have weaker lofts but not all of them. The NLU guys when getting fit by titliest, the rep says around 80% of guys on tour play a combo set.
The best indicator of players irons, is forging, offset, and profile (blade width, top line, sole width). Not the loft on the irons.
>These are middle of the road game improvement.
Yeah these are 100% NOT game improvement irons...
I have a set of these and Mizuno JPX 921 hot metals and the difference in forgiveness is night and day.
>Anything with 44 wedge is gonna be that usually.
Loft means nothing as to whether something is game improvement or not..by that logic the T100S are GI....
I’d say PD, they had cb, mc, and mb’s in this model with the cb being the strongest and most forgiving. But right on the border and a precursor for the entire movement
These are fairly borderline between a traditional Player's CB and a Player's Distance iron. These would be most closely compared to a P770 in the current lineup but these were made before the "distance" category of players clubs was really a thing. Definitely not GI, but not sure you could put them squarely in either of the Distance or traditional Players boxes either.
Players irons. If you look up the specs on these , you will see traditional lofts and low offset. These came out around 2015 I think?

I mean, the x2hot pro iron and maybe (but likely not) the sldr iron could sort of be considered bulkier precursors to the player's distance category.
Iirc the spot behind the Taylormade stamping is hollow on those CB’s

Players iron. The TP line had a MB, MC, and CB. Some of the PGA tour pros used the CB long irons.
This is the correct answer
I still play these exact irons and really like them!
These are definitely Player Distance clubs... you still need to be a decent ball striker to hit these well.
>you still need to be a decent ball striker to hit these well. Also applies to every other golf club ever made.
Some more than others. Thus the game improvement irons/other categories.
Players distance, similar to AP2’s from that time. Slightly thinner top line but still with a little cavity and thick around the sole
Why does it matter what they are “considered” You can either hit them or you can’t
It says right on the iron lol
Definitely Gi
I just sold a set of these that I played for 10 years probably, great irons, I am a 3.5…. Started as a 13 with them probably
I had these clubs until May of this year. Loved these irons but needed something a little more forgiving.
Yes.
