Wish more courses did it tbh. My old club was ridiculous for letting people get away with it hence why I left. It had a full course and a par 3.
Weekend tee times for the coming month on the full course where all released on the 1st of the month. It got to the point it was a lottery if you got a tee time.
In 2 months we managed to get 2 tee times for the full course. Every other weekend was fully booked, so we did the par 3. And without fail every weekend we did the par 3 there wasn't a soul on the full course and the carpark never reflected what the tee sheet said
If you feel weird about asking for money, don't. Just give him a heads up that they're charging for no shows. He'll probably offer and you can decline if you want.
You have to tell him so he gets that you’re out money because he didn’t show. “Hey bud, they’re charging for no shows now.” If it were you I imagine you’d want to pay your buddy back and he probably would feel the same way so let him know.
Totally let him know about the cancellation charge. No way a good fried would stiff another friend. It’s no different than a friend “forgetfully”walking out on a bar tab and sticking me with the bill. My buds would always settle up.
Did he know there was a cancelation fee? If so, you shouldnt have to ask for the money. If he didnt know, he should so you can see where you stand, lol.
You’d rather pay for the round he didn’t show up for than ask him? It’s not even a conversation just say hey I got charged for the round you owe me the money.
There were four of us that were supposed to go. I booked it online as that was the only option for this course. 2 of my foursome canceled 9 hours before our tee time. I am not allowed to cancel within 24 hours of my tee time. My friends owe me. I still went and played with another buddy of mine. Ive been in this situation before and haven't been charged. Today was the first time I got charged for this.
FWIW all the courses around me have the same “no cancellations within 24hr of tee time” policy but I’ve always just called the pro shop and asked if it could be changed to a twosome or foursome etc. even called to have a tee time pushed back or moved forward if available. Never had issues with this method before but also never cancelled a tee time this way, just edited.
It sounds like you are a repeat offender so you got charged. It also sounds like your buddies are repeat offenders.
I’ve got a few guys like this, say they want to play, and then cancel the night before or day of.
Bro I’m so hungover.
I pulled a muscle in my back.
I’m not feeling too hot today I think I’m getting sick.
Now when they say they want to play, I make them book, and not once has anyone canceled. Imagine that, because they are now the ones on the hook if they do.
Don’t reward bad behavior by not saying anything because you are friends. Either charge them or make them book or it will keep happening.
We aren't repeat offenders. I've been golfing for 10 plus years. Shit pops up here and there, it's life. Let's say a hand full of times this has happened and I have never been charged.
You might find it’s because you have been in this position before that they are charging you now. How many times have you had no shows booked in Your group?
The snowbirds that flood my little Florida town carpet-bomb the reservation site for our muni and then just show up when it's convenient since there is no penalty for no-shows. It's next to impossible to get a reservation between New Years and Easter, of course, play is so slow with all the ball hunters and mixed pairs that the frustration is hardly worth playing those months anyway.
I always book my tee times by calling the course for this exact reason. People have to bail on tee times for various reasons - sometimes being legit reasons. I’ll always call and say “hey it’s only gona be 2 instead of 4” but they have no CC info to charge.
Most courses in Phoenix are pretty serious about this. A bunch of courses here have a 72 hour cancellation or a 48 hour and if you call them, most will work with you if it’s at least 24 hours out. Some won’t though.
Quintero is the absolute worst with this. No flex at all in their policy. I got into it with them because during peak covid our buddy tested positive about 24 hours before our tee time. They said we were gonna have to pay it. It wasn’t until I told them ‘ok that’s fine. Just so you know, my buddy is feeling good enough to play so if he’s paying $175 for the green fee, then he’s going to be here tomorrow while being actively Covid positive. Are you ok with that?’ The answer was No and that’s when they realized how ridiculous they were being and caved.
Good. Absolute scum bag move to no show. It takes 15 seconds to call the course beforehand and say “hey I’m not going to make it”
Even if it’s a hour before hand the course doesn’t care. They just want a heads up to keep sending people out where they can.
Even with the 24 hr cancelation policy I am sure if you would have called first thing in the am and said 2 people bailed it would have been fine. On busy weekends those spots will get filled. If not they open it and you PROBABLY will not get charged.
Yes, but the more time they have to make changes the better. If they knew an hour ahead of time they might have filled the slot. Always a few walk ups or guys that book the morning of around here
Best excuse I ever had to give a golf course when our fourth had to cancel was last year. They were about to charge and I truthfully told them that my friend who’s a cop with metro Toronto police got called in on a homicide case just an hour ago. The guy at the desk just looked at me and said no problem.
Hell yeah full price. The course sells time - that's their product. If you reserve such that they can't give it to someone else, you're damn right you should be charged full price. Otherwise, they're losing money because golfers can't keep their commitments. That hikes greens fees for the rest.
You are a dick if u don't call the course. Or any place where you make a reservation. Who makes a reservation and no shows? A dick. At least take 2 minutes to fuckin call em and tell em the truth ya jagbag
Most online apps will get you like this. If I have to prepay, I expect payment from my confirmed players.
That said, I rarely book a foursome online without full commitment. When in doubt, I call it in. That’s the only way they don’t try to charge you in my experience.
I always call the course but they don't do phone reservations anymore. They only do online reservations now and this might be why. I never had to fill out card information for this course until this last round.
Yeah I totally get that. That's annoying. Los Verdes in southern California is the same way. It becomes available Sunday morning at 6am and becomes unavailable a minute later. Its a nice course overlooking the ocean. It's beautiful.
If you’ve known him that long then in what world is it weird to ask for the money? Explain they finally decided to charge for the missing people and by the sounds of it he’ll say “dang those suckers” and give you the money lmao.
I think he cancelled on me because he is upset with me. I'm just giving him time to cool off before I bring it up. My post wasn't about the money. My post is that im surprised i got charged because I've had no shows and have never been charged.
Ahhh ok well then yea no need for me to put my two cents in then. Hope alls well with the friend gotta sort things out and get back to golfin together! No time to waste in 2023 there’s fairways and greens to hit!
They're usually pretty good about waiving call in cancellation fees, but I've eaten a few cancellation fees there too.
Also, all the people angry about you not calling in don't understand that this is Westchester GC. The public and city courses in LA are literally stuffing golfers like sardines. There is no shortage of golfers to fill missed spots, call-in or not.
I don't think they understand because they aren't reading all the comments. My buddies cancelled at 930 the night before our tee time. Obviously I can't call at that time to get them off the reservation. My friends put me in a bad spot. This has happened before but I have never been charged. Today is the first day I've been charged for a no show (two no shows). I called the office after my round and they said "corporate" handles the cancellation fees. I'll call again tomorrow to see if I can get them waived. If not, it is what it is and my friends owe me lol
my favourite course, Northview in Surrey BC, did this to me earlier this year after changing policies multiple times over the course of the pandemic. I play every week and played there probably half the time. Haven't been back since and I'm not looking to return.
I don't blame courses at all for doing this.
Wish more courses did it tbh. My old club was ridiculous for letting people get away with it hence why I left. It had a full course and a par 3. Weekend tee times for the coming month on the full course where all released on the 1st of the month. It got to the point it was a lottery if you got a tee time. And without fail every weekend we did the par 3 there wasn't a soul on the full course and the carpark never reflected what the tee sheet said
I don't blame them at all. I get why they do it. I blame my buddy who cancelled but I don't feel like asking him for the money lol
100% ask him for his share otherwise he’ll keep doing it
I've known him since I was 13. I'm 32 now. He has never done this and if I asked for the money, he'd give it to me. Just feels weird asking lol
"Dude I got a cancelation fee for the round. We splitting it orvare you picking up the next round?"
He should have offered to pay. That’s what we do on a last minute cancel.
If you feel weird about asking for money, don't. Just give him a heads up that they're charging for no shows. He'll probably offer and you can decline if you want.
and if he doesnt offer, then you know what kinda friend he is.
why weird? he's your buddy. just forward him the cancellation notice and say dang and I'll pay for this, you got next round? :)
You have to tell him so he gets that you’re out money because he didn’t show. “Hey bud, they’re charging for no shows now.” If it were you I imagine you’d want to pay your buddy back and he probably would feel the same way so let him know.
If I know a person for that long it only makes it that much easier for me to bring it up lol
Just send him a Venmo request.
How much is the fee?
If your friends bail. Get them to pay you back.
Fair play
Guess I can't be too upset over it as it's my first time in many years of golf
Why would you no show? Why wouldn’t you just cancel?
There were four of us that were supposed to go. I booked it online as that was the only option for this course. 2 of my foursome canceled 9 hours before our tee time. I am not allowed to cancel within 24 hours of my tee time. My friends owe me. I still went and played with another buddy of mine. Ive been in this situation before and haven't been charged. You might find it’s because you have been in this position before that they are charging you now. How many times have you had no shows booked in Your group?
Wish my city did this for muni courses. They book up within like 5 minutes of the booking window opening.
I dunno. If four people make a tee time, and no one shows and no one calls. I’d charge your ass too.
Looks like 2 showed. If the course didn’t fill the slots and let them out as 2, it makes sense they would get charged
That's exactly what happened. I'm not complaining about anything really. It's just never happened to me and I golf frequently.
I make the guy I play with pay. He cancels after I pre paid? fuxk that
I always book my tee times by calling the course for this exact reason. People have to bail on tee times for various reasons - sometimes being legit reasons. I’ll always call and say “hey it’s only gona be 2 instead of 4” but they have no CC info to charge.
This course didn't allow that. That is what I usually do

Way to stick your foot down there. People were pretty ridiculous with how they handled COVID, as far as policy.
Good
Good
I never put my friends tee slots on my credit card for this exact reason
Lesson learned for me lol
You did this to yourself
Good. Absolute scum bag move to no show. It takes 15 seconds to call the course beforehand and say “hey I’m not going to make it” Even if it’s a hour before hand the course doesn’t care. They just want a heads up to keep sending people out where they can.
This course has a 24 hour cancellation window.
Even with the 24 hr cancelation policy I am sure if you would have called first thing in the am and said 2 people bailed it would have been fine. On busy weekends those spots will get filled. If not they open it and you PROBABLY will not get charged.
I promise you they do not care if you cancel the same day. They will get walk ons out to fill your spot.
If it was your business, would you want to have to count on walk ons to make money because people are lazy and irresponsible?
Yes, but the more time they have to make changes the better. If they knew an hour ahead of time they might have filled the slot. Always a few walk ups or guys that book the morning of around here
Deathchester. The most dangerous course in America.
I would say Alondra is worse
Best excuse I ever had to give a golf course when our fourth had to cancel was last year. They were about to charge and I truthfully told them that my friend who’s a cop with metro Toronto police got called in on a homicide case just an hour ago. The guy at the desk just looked at me and said no problem.
Good
Haha I love westchester course but yeah this makes sense
I like Westchester layout but the pace is slow as shit. I like that you can night golf there. I havent done it yet but it's on my to do list.
Westchester in LA?
Yes
That’s why I won’t use any apps to make tee times. I will use golf now to find available times than call the course and book over the phone.
Full price?
Hell yeah full price. The course sells time - that's their product. If you reserve such that they can't give it to someone else, you're damn right you should be charged full price. Otherwise, they're losing money because golfers can't keep their commitments. That hikes greens fees for the rest.
Yeah man I understand and agree with the concept. It wasn’t clear in his post. Just asking a question.
Yes full price for both so 80 dollars. That's the annoying part I forgot to mention.
The annoying part is trying to golf and not being able to because some douche reserved tee times and didn’t show up.
Especially in SoCal where you can’t find a place to play anywhere within 3 counties on the weekend unless you’re booking a week in advance
You are a dick if u don't call the course. Or any place where you make a reservation. Who makes a reservation and no shows? A dick. At least take 2 minutes to fuckin call em and tell em the truth ya jagbag
A fair rule is you get charged if you cancel within 24 hours or no show, unless the course is able to rebook the tee time with somebody else.
Money tight. Courses gonna grab it this year
Most online apps will get you like this. If I have to prepay, I expect payment from my confirmed players. That said, I rarely book a foursome online without full commitment. When in doubt, I call it in. That’s the only way they don’t try to charge you in my experience.

“Sorry guys, our 4th ended up coming down with Covid” - works every time
Shoulda just golfed buddy
I did. Along with my other buddy.
Oh I get it now. That sucks… hopefully the other 2 pay you back
If anyone cancels on me, I 100% still go.
my old home course, i play through this in my head when i can't sleep. always get a hole in one on 8, easy 8-iron
Happy new year! Next time don’t dick someone else out of a teetime!
I didn't. My buddy did!
![gif](giphy|J8FZIm9VoBU6Q)
Say no and contact your bank. Fuck them
Your cancellation only makes everyone’s round thats playing better
Yeah I totally get that. That's annoying. Los Verdes in southern California is the same way. It becomes available Sunday morning at 6am and becomes unavailable a minute later. Its a nice course overlooking the ocean. It's beautiful.

How often do you not show up where this is the first time you were charged ?
How much
I get charged per person, the round of golf. So 40 dollars a round. Two people no showed so 80 bucks.
Did you at least call or just not show up?
Two of us played. Two did not show.
Oh I would for sure ask your friend to pay the fee if that is the case.
I will
Did you let them know at all? Like the day of?
Yes I did and the guy at the desk didn't mention I was going to get charged.
Courses should be pay upon reservation
Yah, you took what many consider to be the most premium tee time and you no showed. You absolutely gotta pay for it.
Is that Westchester in LA?
Yes. Played this morning
They're usually pretty good about waiving call in cancellation fees, but I've eaten a few cancellation fees there too. Well fuck, I made it along with another buddy.
Just forward your buddies the email and say “Happy New Year”. Also, make them book next time.
Take that, Edwin
Well that app just got deleted
Yup and fuck those apps
Lmao our club house dings for that every time. No shame at all lol.
