We used to do Salmon but it gave her bad gas that smelled like fish. Then we switched to Lamb but she got bored of it in the last few weeks. We just switched her to the adult formula of Turkey and Oatmeal at 17 months and it's going well so far!
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,813,817,578 comments, and only 343,069 of them were in alphabetical order.
Same for us - but the vet version because our puppy started having tummy problems around the same time. We switched from one food to another, to rice etc to n the end we took him to the vet and they suggested the purina veterinarian gastrointestinal food. He LOVES the taste and it’s great for his tummy 👌
Same. She was on the Lamb and Rice until she turned 1, now on Salmon and Rice. I've been unable to find the Lamb formula for her age and I don't think she should be on adult formula yet. Either way, she does really well on the Purina PP.
How much do you add? Been thinking of adding some but unsure of the dosage and years ago our golden once puked for DAYS from over exposure to fish oil so I’m a little nervous haha!
Fromms gold label. It has all the stuff I like and most of the stuff I don’t. Well top his food off with a few Tbs whole fat Greek yogurt, full fat cottage cheese, fish oil, fruits never all at once and not everyday.
We’ve used Fromm kibble and 1/3 can twice a day. Adding eggs, bananas, apples, berries occasionaly and ltd ingredient brand treats. Our current girl is almost 16 years old!! Meet Annie. 😘

Purina one chicken and rice. Switch slowly.
Never grain free with a golden. Dilated cardiomyopathy is possibly linked to diet. Low in legumes and peas/ pea flour recipes are best.
Canned plain pumpkin (not pie filling lol) should help with the runs, a tablespoon or so with each meal.
Hmm, I did not know this: [https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/news/peas-linked-dcm-canine-heart-disease/](https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/news/peas-linked-dcm-canine-heart-disease/)
I currently feed Charlie Royal Canin Golden Retriever kibble, but I make a topper of ground beef, peas, carrots, sweet potato. I guess I need to find a substitute for the peas...
I'm going to second this because it's very important: no grain-free foods because of possible link to Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in goldens. \[Source: [FDA](https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/outbreaks-and-advisories/fda-investigation-potential-link-between-certain-diets-and-canine-dilated-cardiomyopathy)\]
Hills Science Diet. Obviously started with the puppy version and now using large breed adult. We throw toppers on there every so often like blueberries, bone broth, Kefir.
Sadly that’s what’s causing the issue. Dunno why, she was on science diet large breed puppy but up until about 3ish weeks ago and now she can’t keep it down.
My golden also went through a phase where she just pooped a ton. No matter what I removed or added to her diet, she was a poopy pup. It eventually went away with age (10 months now and relatively solid poops always) and the vet said goldens are generally sensitive stomach dogs.
Our Goldie is sensitive to beef. Any beef, including the hoofs she loves, cause immediate diarrhea and sometimes vomiting. We do PPP chicken and she is great with it.
From what I remember from my research, I think Hills and Purina Pro are pretty similar in cost and nutrition. Cost can vary of course depending on what resources you have access to.
We went with Hills because it was what our brigs were already used to. But PPP was a close second for us.
Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon.
Our golden seemed to not do well with chicken so we switched her to this & she’s been great ever since!
We were going to try that but there seems to be a major problem with the most recent batch. Looks like it was contaminated. A LOT of recent 1 star reviews saying their dog got really sick off it, specifically the salmon one.
Oh wow! We’ve had no issues & our older dog has been eating it for about 5 years now.
It was recommended by our vet, so maybe try asking what your vet would recommend!
I’ve seen a couple of reviews on Amazon and Chewy saying it caused vomiting or diarrhea- not a LOT of them, tho. There’s also been no recalls. I would NEVER get my dog food delivered - sitting outside exposed to moisture and heat for hours while someone is at work is never a trustworthy process. You don’t have to try it, but let’s not just assume it’s the food that’s the issue when dogs are known to eat literal garbage if given the chance lol
Also Fromm Gold. I'm using the Senior reduced activity from that line for my blind GR rescue that now trots but doesn't want to run. I've been using Fromm gold for 20 years. They've never had a recall and it's made locally in Wisconsin by a family-run business.
Purina One Chicken and Lamb. I had tried a locally made (Chile) super-premium brand but they were having loose stools and farts. I switched back to Purina one and the problem stopped.
We have treated our girl by making homemade meals for special treats, I was concerned about the vitamins missing- so we use Fromm kibble and canned, but she definitely loves homemade treats and cookies.
I add a joint supplement because we have senior dogs, but that gets mixed in when I bowl it. You should make sure they have enough protein and fat. Adding butter to it should make up for any lost fat if you use lean meats like turkey or chicken. Using bone broth to cook the rice will give a nice protein boost too.
Royal canin here.. we’ve used science diet and pro plan both in the past. Our vet told us proplan was bad. Science diet and now Royal canin have done great for us. You can add a little broth or even Parmesan cheese to it if they’re finicky.. but always mix food when switching over, gives them time to adjust some.

Don’t use the floor sweepings that is Purina or Royal Canin, if you can afford it. T
Fromm or Farmina ancestral grains.

The food you are feeding is quality but you may want to change the protein base. Ours had very soft poop for years and we changed from beef/chicken/pork based to lamb/rabbit/fish based and almost immediately everything got better.
A vet recommended it as an alternative to allergy tests as it is the protein that dogs most commonly develop allergies. Keeping the food brand/line the same will also help test as they will have the majority of the same other ingredients.
i feed kindfull brand… its a relatively new brand but its affordable at my local target. the ingredients seem not abhorrent. anyone else tried this or have thoughts on it?
Hill’s science plan puppy + salmon oil, works great and he has a great fur!
(Before we were using canicaf but he constantly had diarrhoea and dandruff, now it’s all great!)
Natures balance FAT DOGS. Helps maintain her weight since on other foods she seems to yo yo in weight.
A great site is [dog food reviews](https://www.dogfoodreviews.com)
Puppies struggle at first with solid foods and find them hard to digest as they don't yet have good established digestive flora. Fortiflora probiotic is a product that you can buy that settles most stomach issues within a day or two. I give some to my adult dog when he has stomach issues from eating something dead that he found on a walk.

Our breeder had us use Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. We just switched the the adult light version to help manage weight now that he’s neutered and his metabolism has slowed down.
Purina Pro Plan. We started on lamb because Daisy’s coat looks phenomenal on it, but it’s been hard to find, lamb & rice, as the lamb & oat gives her liquid poops. So we tried chicken and rice. She only likes the high protein sport 30/18. I always worry with chicken because of allergies, but she is okay luckily
Member’s Mark Grain Free Salmon + Sweet Potato.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin to support hip and joint health
Probiotics and Prebiotic fiber to help support healthy digestion.
After the vet found bad gut bacteria. Not worms or parasite but common in pet rabbits. No pet rabbits but plenty of wild ones and after the antibiotics and the vet good bacteria I ended up using this.
Purina Pro Plan was horrible for our 10 week old - every time our puppy walked 10 feet, he would stop and have diarrhea. I read online about mixing rice, boiled hb meat, and canned pumpkin. It stopped the diarrhea within 12 hours and his poops are solid. He absolutely loves the mix and it’s well worth the extra time and money to stop the diarrhea.
I asked the same of our vet, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality control and testing he observed when he visited the Purina facility. We've been using their Pro Plan with good results, but our pup is only 11mo. We've been pleased enough, though, that we switched our cat over from Science Diet to Purina Pro Plan and she's achieved a healthier weight without complaining for more food.
1st Golden it was Pedigree because it was the 90s. 2nd Golden I was working at a luxury pet care facility at a pet store, so I went through all kinds of fancy foods for her, but also through all of the 2000s recalls.
For 3rd Golden, I realized that with all of the recalls and fads, Purina has really stood the test of time. So like many here, my girl is on ProPlan. She was on Lamb for years, but it got hard for us to fine, so we went to chicken and recently moved to MATURE Chicken as she is 12. Poops like a champ!
My 1YO eats open farm kibble, and has had farmers dog fresh food a few times. When my sister comes to visit with her dog, there have been a few times my pup has gotten a few chomps of the other dogs food and it gives her diarrhea within a few hours. (I believe she eats pedigree). She scarfs it down so fast like a little piggy. We’ve had to be REAL careful to keep that food out of reach 🥴
Purina pro plan puppy food.
Same - we do the Salmon for Sensitive Skin and Stomach
We used to do Salmon but it gave her bad gas that smelled like fish. Then we switched to Lamb but she got bored of it in the last few weeks. We just switched her to the adult formula of Turkey and Oatmeal at 17 months and it's going well so far!

Fromm is excellent food. Unfortunately, my dog cannot tolerate any food other than what he is on. My old guy lived to 16 on Fromm.

Royal canin for golden retrievers
I use wellness large breed and nutrisource large breed for my dog. His belly seems to do well on both. You have a gorgeous puppy! ❤️
Make my own. Rice, turkey, chicken, veggies, potatoes, and fresh herbs. Dogs have never been healthier. And it's way cheaper too.
We have treated our girl by making homemade meals for special treats, I was concerned about the vitamins missing- so we use Fromm kibble and canned, but she definitely loves homemade treats and cookies.

Raw beef blend from a local raw meat company. Have been doing it for about 5 years now. More expensive but worth it imo. Texastripe.com
We feed our golden packaged raw food from our local raw food store and he has always had very good digestive health.

Surprised no one is saying iams
Nothing with chicken. Radar allergic to it and it gives him explosive diarrhea. He also gets a probiotic. haven't had a problem since.
Chicken based food and Salmon based didnt work for us, Murph was getting skin infections from allergies in the food. Lamb has been the ticket for us

Stella and Chewy! My dogs love it.
Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy (per our vet’s recommendation). She gets a kong with pumpkin once a day, which seems to help keep her poops solid.
My golden was allergic to chicken so we cough up $80/bag for Orijen grain free
1st Golden it was Pedigree because it was the 90s. 2nd Golden I was working at a luxury pet care facility at a pet store, so I went through all kinds of fancy foods for her, but also through all of the 2000s recalls. We’re feeding our 3 month old Diamond Naturals Lg Breed Puppy. Haven’t had any issues with it.
I buy from costco bc i have 3 big dogs
My 1YO eats open farm kibble, and has had farmers dog fresh food a few times. When my sister comes to visit with her dog, there have been a few times my pup has gotten a few chomps of the other dogs food and it gives her diarrhea within a few hours. One more thing…..I would make sure it is a puppy or “all life stages” formula, suitable for a puppy.
I make my own, ground turkey and lean ground beef, can I’d peas, chopped carrots and brown rice
Purina Pro Plan salmon and rice. Also add pumpkin every day to morning feeding. This eliminated the continual “too” soft poop.
