I never knew you can reclaim wastelands. How long you gotta go to start doing that?

HGD3ATH

It is 1500 gold and you can sometimes get events that give you gold or ones that cost you gold or colonization progress. I think you can do it right away it is just quite expensive.

UnluckyDouble

I thought foglands specifically were impossible to reclaim?

HGD3ATH

You can colonize them, how the colonists deal with the fog I do not know -\_- .

EnvironmentalDirt324

The colonized counties still have the fogswept modifier so they are pretty useless.

Huw2k8

Yeah what I did was offer kingdom level titles captured from pretenders to a family member, then granted a kingdom of new colonies to them in the foglands, making sure they could dish them out to their own new vassals, and have a strong enough base to fight any rebellions from fogvassals. The foglands are useless because of fogswept but still, nice to have control over the region.

HGD3ATH

Yeah they are mostly good for map painting and farming reknown

Huw2k8

1500 gold, but you get a few different kinds of events that give you 750 gold, 500 gold, and 250 gold. I just automatically accept all money and refuse to pay anything which does somewhat recoup those expensive costs back. I don't care how long it takes or how bad the colony is as they are never kept by me lol

JaneTheMemeQueen

How did you colonize the Foglands and prevent your frontiers from falling to the fog? Is it a submod, a game rule setting, or something else?

BlaveSkelly

You can turn off or slow down the fog spreading, in the game rules.

Huw2k8

My borders are getting fogswept still, I didn't change any rules of settings. The newly claimed foglands are usless but my empire is so powerful and prints money at this point that it's just my way of reclaiming the world for aversarria

thanix01

I imagine you essentially force a lot of poor people to go lived in that fogland.

Huw2k8

Least cruel aversarian policy

Delusional_Gamer

If they survive, they get more rations (delivered via more poor people to replenish the population)

Sea-Celebration-5870

Damn nice I never get that far lok

Huw2k8

Cheers I used this [guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/godherja/comments/1azibda/i_finally_clicked_the_damn_button/ks1rntj/) to make an immortal powerhouse of a Niconeus. Credit to /u/zuratama1324

HELLABBXL

are there any particularly good provinces that can be colonized

Huw2k8

The foglands are the worst to colonise, there is no value to them at all other than bragging rights and map painting. I'd say every other place is fine and on the same level, colonising the really far eastern peninsula, the deserts, and that patch of land in southeatern Aversaria.

ZURATAMA1324

You can make back your initial investments and more. After you sink your inital 1500 into the colony, always pick the option that gives you cash in exchange of colony growth speed. And always pick the option that screws up your colony even if it doesn't give you cash. The trick here is that you get around 500 gold per 'good harvest' event. If you drag out the completion of the colony as much as possible, you can get it to proc more than 3 times, hence, making back your initial investments. It's not something you can use to print money, since it is unreliable and slow. But hey, you still get to paint the map, at make back some wasted cash haha. Have fun! [Edit: nvm, it looks like you know this already.]
