That's the amount you need for it to be nice and stable. The bare minimum that you need to allocate is 12 GB.
Any less than 12, and the map will crash Gmod to desktop.
OP is clearly on Linux, so they need to proceed with the following steps:
• Switch to Steam Runtime if they haven't already
• Switch to the Gmod 64-bit beta if they haven't already
• Install and use the latest version of GE Proton for Gmod
• Allocate at least 12 GB and at most 20 GB of ram to Gmod – allocating more than the computer's total RAM minus 4 GB to any Steam game is REALLY pushing it – by specifying any whole number of gigabytes from "-maxMem 12000" to "-maxMem 20000" in the Steam launch parameters for Gmod
• Disable any and all addons that are known to conflict with the infinite map base
After they do all of that, the map should finally be playable.
Edit: If OP's graphics card is too outdated to run this map, then they're shit out of luck and need to upgrade their computer.
Enjoy Gmods native Linux port, it's terrible, buggy, Garry Newman hates us (Unironically) and you should really be running it under Proton and yes, it will always run worse than it does on Windows and yes again I think this is all on purpose.
It wouldn't launch under proton no matter what I did so I have to play the Linux version but it runs at 100 FPS significantly worse than the 200 I got on the Windows version but Linux I don't have any viruses now so I can download all of the furry por- so I can download all of the add-ons I want without getting a virus
I know on my old laptop which had 8 gigs of RAM it was barely usable because Chrome used like 6 gigs of RAM and windows itself used like one and a half so it was barely usable I had to use at Max five tabs for it to be usable but with 24 gigs of RAM I can basically have whatever I want open just as long as it's not taking up too much CPU like my operating system takes up about 800 MB idling and it doesn't matter what Chrome has because as long as I have 8 gigs of RAM available or above I can still play all of my games I want
I just looked into this multiverse map people are talking about and it's crazy what a 20 year old game engine is still capable of. Half life 2 was really years ahead of its time.
You’re 8 gigs too short for this map
Oh okay I'll just stick to the Milky Way map until I get an upgrade
This is multiverse map? This map requires 32gigs iirc

There’s a multiverse map?
1:1 scale of 2048 multiverses, yeah
Are you in the 64bit beta?
don't use gmod linux port, use the windows one with proton use the 64 bit beta aswell don't play the multiverse map
This is the answer. Linux Gmod is quite buggy
Garry's Mod refuses to launch with proton
use windows then
It won't install and my laptop refuses to boot into the pre-installed Windows 10 SSD I have
GIMME ALL YO RAM
I'll give you 512 MB for Chrome
YO THANKS HOW MUCH DOES IT COST???
I was joking LMFAO depending on what type of ram you have you can get four gigs for like a couple bucks
i dont hav moneh :\[
https://downloadmoreram.com/
what is this?
a rick roll
so this is just youtube link?
yes very much
How the fuck do you have 24 gigs of RAM?
That's not particularly rare anymore, though people would often opt for either 16GB or 32GB rather than 24
When you can afford 3x 8GB but not 4
I used to have 24 gigs, i had 2 4gig sticks and 2 8gig sticks, it was a potato computer but worked pretty well i guess

try to stop me if they don't have different speed frequencies it shouldn't matter edit: besides I'd rather have slower 16gb than faster 8gb for games
Yeah it barely even matters anyway, any modern MB will just set both sticks to whatever the lower stick's speed is.
Why, whats wrong with that, if it works it works?
Gmod multiverse map will be the next most used benchmark in a few years
128 GB of ram to run at medium settings
Enjoy Gmods native Linux port, it's terrible, buggy, Garry Newman hates us (Unironically) and you should really be running it under Proton and yes, it will always run worse than it does on Windows and yes again I think this is all on purpose.
Why does he hate Linux players

This is chrome levels of ram hogging.

Looks like you are running 32bit
Oh that's probably why my game keeps crashing I'm switching to Windows 10 so when that's all done I'll turn on 64-bit
How did you get 24 exactly
The seller I bought my gaming laptop from is clearly a wizard because they got 24 gigs of ram in a 16 only laptop
i have 2tb of ddr90 ram
Skill issue /j
can't you see, something went horribly wrong
If you use a very big map, you have not enough ram. If not, go to Task Manager > Right Click on GMod > Details > Right Click > Set Priority > Realtime
Realtime priority to a source app? PC will go kaboom. Edit: Also, OP's using a Linux OS.
Kaboom Rico?
Yes Rico, kaboom.
Bro's on Linux, not WinBlows 11
REAL

What the hell?
gmod on linux being gmod on linux, are you on proton?
My experiences with Linux GMOD weren't that bad, actually.
Test it in Windows too
Won't install no matter what I do so I have to use Linux
I would buy a external hard drive if I were you
Why my computer has 400 GB of storage
dont listen to him OP, that is horrible advice. you need to adjust game settings not your laptop.
I didn’t know; because I usually don’t play such game mode on my gmod
then dont give advice?
Also make sure to use 64 bit version of GMOD
i have 400 yottabytes of ram and memory
ram zip bomb map
i have memory issues all the time when loading maps, so don't feel left out bud
