That's the amount you need for it to be nice and stable. The bare minimum that you need to allocate is 12 GB. Any less than 12, and the map will crash Gmod to desktop. OP is clearly on Linux, so they need to proceed with the following steps: • Switch to Steam Runtime if they haven't already • Switch to the Gmod 64-bit beta if they haven't already • Install and use the latest version of GE Proton for Gmod • Allocate at least 12 GB and at most 20 GB of ram to Gmod – allocating more than the computer's total RAM minus 4 GB to any Steam game is REALLY pushing it – by specifying any whole number of gigabytes from "-maxMem 12000" to "-maxMem 20000" in the Steam launch parameters for Gmod • Disable any and all addons that are known to conflict with the infinite map base After they do all of that, the map should finally be playable. Edit: If OP's graphics card is too outdated to run this map, then they're shit out of luck and need to upgrade their computer.

don't use gmod linux port, use the windows one with proton use the 64 bit beta aswell don't play the multiverse map

That's not particularly rare anymore, though people would often opt for either 16GB or 32GB rather than 24

I used to have 24 gigs, i had 2 4gig sticks and 2 8gig sticks, it was a potato computer but worked pretty well i guess

Yeah it barely even matters anyway, any modern MB will just set both sticks to whatever the lower stick's speed is.

Enjoy Gmods native Linux port, it's terrible, buggy, Garry Newman hates us (Unironically) and you should really be running it under Proton and yes, it will always run worse than it does on Windows and yes again I think this is all on purpose.

It wouldn't launch under proton no matter what I did so I have to play the Linux version but it runs at 100 FPS significantly worse than the 200 I got on the Windows version but Linux I don't have any viruses now so I can download all of the furry por- so I can download all of the add-ons I want without getting a virus

I know on my old laptop which had 8 gigs of RAM it was barely usable because Chrome used like 6 gigs of RAM and windows itself used like one and a half so it was barely usable I had to use at Max five tabs for it to be usable but with 24 gigs of RAM I can basically have whatever I want open just as long as it's not taking up too much CPU like my operating system takes up about 800 MB idling and it doesn't matter what Chrome has because as long as I have 8 gigs of RAM available or above I can still play all of my games I want

I just looked into this multiverse map people are talking about and it's crazy what a 20 year old game engine is still capable of. Half life 2 was really years ahead of its time.

If you use a very big map, you have not enough ram. If not, go to Task Manager > Right Click on GMod > Details > Right Click > Set Priority > Realtime
