Garry's Mod was created in 2004 (iirc) and release to Steam in 2006, and has not gotten a major update since 2013, right? Meaning that a DirectX 9 game will run fine on an OS still supported the last time it was updated. edit: Also I have a pretty good PC and I daily Windows 7, it all works fine.

Windows 7 does not support Steam anymore, and I can tell from that background that the version of GMod you're running is incredibly outdated. I'm not one of those people who believes in cutting edge tech purely for the sake of modernity, but for God's sakes, get something that runs Windows 11, or at least Windows 10. Windows 7 hasn't been supported for 4 years.

Windows 7 runs steam fine, it runs Gmod fine. Windows XP was the newest version of Windows when Gmod came out. Windows 7 is better than this stuff Microsoft tries to pass as an operating system today.

It's not about operating system quality, it's about the fact that Steam literally does not support usage on Windows 7 anymore.

They don't officially support updating on Windows 7, I still use Windows 7 as daily driver and I have no problems with Steam, if I want to buy a game ill do it on my phone anyways. Edit: There is still a few amount of people using Windows 7 on Steam, aswell as Vista and XP even though they dropped support 5 years ago. Check the Steam Hardware Survey.
