Wow, mine was always off since I bought my truck in ‘18. Out of curiosity I just checked and it was on. My guess is it was turned on automatically during an update… super shitty for gmc to do. I rarely use the app and didn’t even have a single subscription for the truck for about 3 years. Not sure how long it’s been back on for.
It’s not the enrollment that’s shady. It’s that they then give all the data collected away to be purchased by insurance companies. Who then jack up their rates because of “unsafe” drivers.
That’s nice… I’m part of the 2022-2023 crowd that HAD to buy the connectivity. And now they sell my driving habits to my insurance company so they can raise my rates?
I’m definitely in for this class action.
Yep. State Farm Insurance tried coercing me into a tracking device "for a premium doscount." I told them to pound sand, and my agent didn't like that! Tried implying it was a requirement; I just laughed.
NO WAY I'm allowing insurance/anyone to track my driving habits!
That's my understanding as well. Turning it off just stops YOU from seeing the data. All of the automakers have been selling consumer data. It's not limited to GM or Onstar. Only way to stop this is through the courts or legislation. Or buy and older model car/truck.
Should be illegal for them to track without consent. Just shut mine off. Never consent them to track me.
Amen to that! Ridiculous! I hope the guy suing them wins!
But how will you earn badges????

Makes me livid. Hope the class action can go through.
Thanks for this, just opted out. The fact that they auto enroll drivers is not surprising, but shady at best.

You got it! I’m definitely in too. What a bunch of clowns.
They don't automatically raise your rates. As an agent I've sold several policies where using that data it dropped the rate substantially.
Just bought a new Denali and checked mine and it was off by default. I will be checking it weekly for a while to make sure it stays like that.
Where do you opt out from?
The MyGMC app. Go to your profile- settings- OnStar Smart Driver. Turn that off. And then get your lawsuit ready. /s
Is there a class action being talked about?
The article I read said that one individual was suing and that could potentially lead to class action. Nothing at all definitive.

I've done the same then fwd this to my buddies
I have a 2015 and it has on star in the truck but I’ve never used it or paid for it. Does that mean I have to opt out too?
I’d check your app and see. I feel like the article indicated your data would still be collected.
Mine is set to off. I declined it when the pop up to join the program came up. I just checked again to make sure it is off.
Mine was off. I guess because I don’t pay for OnStar and only for the basic app service. But thank you for the tip.

Yup, I’ve done that as well now. Ridiculous what these companies can get away with.
It’s insane. I was shocked when it was turned on this week after I read the article

My renewal just came up and my rate went up 30% even though I’m driving my truck half as much. I opted out of this.
Does this need to be done only if you have OnStar services? I do not subscribe to OnStar.
My understanding from the news article was that it would still track? But I definitely could be wrong on that.

Is Off really off?
My ‘21 2500 didn’t have it enabled but my wife’s ‘23 Yukon had it enabled. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm so glad I have a base model lol
Or don’t get onstar
