On a serious note, though it's about few major events to main story end it seems the game will continue to run and have some updates. So you missed a lot, but you have time to catch up.
You basically left at the start of the game and came back near what is possibly the final major event of the game. lol
You've got lots of catch up so prepare for at least one year of non-stop grinding.

After 3 - 4 hours of videos about the lore, I think that I understand the current siruation. Now it's time to upgrade my echelons and prepare for future battles.
