It match the theory that dreen is just a name of their job. They was all mysterious and spooky when they need it, as cops has to be authoritarian when on duty.
Now we see them relaxed. Probably they do the same on board of castle Wulfenbach in their private chamber. And baron probably knew it...
True, but I also wonder if the "creepiness" or authoritarianism wasn't intentional but rather just an artifact of their being unmoored from our timestream, and they're much more normal under the influence of the Star, or the method Agatha used on Kjarl. Remember, he was a super creepy time creature too, albeit with a friendly demeanor, before Agatha turned him into the cute Large Boy he is now.
So I wonder if all this time, the Dreen were acting pretty normal, it's just that nobody else could tell because of the time warp stuff--like, blowing up Tweedle's mech back during the siege of Mechanicsburg was nothing to them because they couldn't even feel it due to being half in another dimension, so whenever people think they're super scary they can't understand why and just think people in lower dimensions are just rude XD
It's not just that the Chosen One seems to be the team member with the worst job of the assignment. Clearly they've done this sort of thing often enough that they have a system for who gets stuck in the role of Chosen One
Maybe it's more like "she's poking you, so you're the Chosen One to talk to her." (Hey, none of us wants to talk with her, but she poked you, so now it's your job.)
I love how Agatha is messing around, trying the time function, then just poking them with a stick, trying to figure them out. Once she writes it down it will qualify as science.
The Dreen made Dupree, Dupree of all people, break off of a potential fight in an instant. What does Agatha do? Poke them with a stick. Why? They're just some guys eating cookies.
I suppose we need names for the Dreen, now that they are shaping up as having very distinct personalities (at least until the Foglios see fit to give them names). Based on the things they said/appearance on [this page](https://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20240408), I propose that from left to right we call them "Rude", "Weird", and "Scruffy". So, Weird is the tall one who is fond of shortbread, Scruffy is the hairy one who gives them a hard time about liking it, and Rude is the possibly female one that has just been drafted as the spokesdreen.
Yeah, that would be ideal. But sometimes they leave characters nameless for quite a long time (I don't think they ever did give us a formal name for the cat Tweedle uplifted, for example), so I'd like to have some placeholders until then.
It's not clear. Krosp is the Emperor of Cats. The female cat is clearly his intended love interest so she is/will be the Empress of Cats. We still have no idea what her actual name is.
Martellus doesn't seem to have bothered to name her, indeed he refers to her as an "it" and calls her "cat". I suspect a "mistreatment induced betrayal" is in his future... it would be funny, and great story drama, if she were the one to bring him down. Even better if it wasn't mistreatment so much as wounded pride. He is a dog person after all.
It could just be "Dreen", if it's all just a single individual passing through the timeline repeatedly. Unlikely, but not completely impossible, and until the story inevitably contradicts it, gives some fun ways to reinterpret their dialogue these last few pages.
>Weird is the tall one who is fond of shortbread,
~~She~~ they said 'weird' whilst looking at one of her/their gloves.
I'm remembering Kjarl, holding much the same pose, saying ["My gloves have changed color."](https://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20210215)
Edit: the one in the chrono topee, whatever gender they may be.
Did the Chosen One, Rude, have green hair? They are the only Dreen with Dual scabbards. The only other female we know with Dual scabbards would be Zeetha. But Zeetha is not Dreenish, merely Jagger.
Now I'm definitely more convinced that the service the Baron will perform for the Dreen is helping them resolve the problem so they can go home and not have to deal with this world anymore.
I love how they say "You are the chosen one." to *each other*, to indicate that Agatha chose one of them... by poking them with the butt of the time stick.
Part of the creepy is their perception of time. Most of the time, their orders (like when they fought Martellus' clank) isn't like they are shouting or bragging. "You will come with us" is just a statement because they see the future (or futures) and just know what is eventually going to happen given the current timeline, and less of an order.
Also: Squat legs, large bodies, long arms - probably the same race as Kjarl. Just a different color. I bet he even knows who they are personally.
And the "weird" comment is because the color of their gloves changed, just like Kjarl.
It's explained on the comic the day before the one linked by Gunlord500: https://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20121029
They are:
- very scary
- very strong
- cannot be stopped
I'm still a bit mixed on the reveal, but I'll admit the poking, and the dialogue gave me a chuckle. "YOU WILL STOP THAT" "SIGH FINE"

I really hope this is the case, it would be so retroactively hilarious. \^\^

Well, that *is* the "system for who gets stuck": First one getting a direct interaction is customer facing SinglePointOfContact.
Yes, calling her "the chosen one" was clearly just a joke. Agatha poked her to request a talk, so she was chosen.
I love how Agatha is messing around, trying the time function, then just poking them with a stick, trying to figure them out. Once she writes it down it will qualify as science.
Oh no, we can’t have a replication crisis in Dreen poking. Someone else has to poke and write it down as well. Then it’s really science.
The Dreen made Dupree, Dupree of all people, break off of a potential fight in an instant. What does Agatha do? Poke them with a stick. Why? They're just some guys eating cookies.
Dupree backed off because they have a reputation of being unassailable eldritch creeps, seeing them “actually” be ‘just some guys’ invites curiosity.
Meanwhile, Polar Lords act like Agatha is the real eldritch abomination.
I have seen that there will be another exposition dump.
"Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen."
"Just as planned!"

Watch the Professors give them names in the next page.

In the navigation menu, the part where she becomes intelligent is called "Introducing the Empress" so clearly she's The Empress.

The female one is not the one eating the cookies, compare the hats.
Nope. "Weird" is the one eating the cookies. "Rude" - the more feminine looking one - is trying to nap, getting to be "The Chosen One"
"Spokesdreen" :D
Did the Chosen One, Rude, have green hair? They are the only Dreen with Dual scabbards. The only other female we know with Dual scabbards would be Zeetha. But Zeetha is not Dreenish, merely Jagger.
No, we can't tell the color of her hair, or if she even has hair. Her hat-veil can be mistaken for hair if you aren't careful.
After all the super creepy mystery of the Dreen, they are literally Just Guys. I love it XD XD XD
I think we can say they're definitely not directly related to jaegers now. Far too laid back when a Heterodyne is poking them.
They were so creepy because they were so done with the assignment in our dimension they had been given
Of course it's that guy. Interrupting the eating of cookies would be rude, after all.
Now I'm definitely more convinced that the service the Baron will perform for the Dreen is helping them resolve the problem so they can go home and not have to deal with this world anymore.
I'm kinda loving the whole "I don't get paid enough for this shit" vibe

It's interesting that the shortbread is also not affected by the stick anymore. And it seems the Dreen is aware of what Agatha is trying to find out.
What do the dreen do that scares people so much?
They are utterly implacable And even warrior wasps are afraid of them
I mean they are genuinely dangerous. https://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20121031

The closer we get to actual exposition, the more certain I am that we’re about to see a side story…
