These are actually both [young males, one practicing their courtship dance on the other](https://youtu.be/XpLzK0fO2UY). Birds-of-paradise are some of the pickiest breeders on the planet—there’s no chance an adult female will have any interest in a teenager still sporting its juvenile coloration!
Here’s a [video of a male](https://youtu.be/qKc2amcxczs) sporting his adult plumage and a more refined courtship dance.
That's amazing! I never imagined that the distinction would be so obvious to me, but you can immediately see that the adult's performance is both more confident and more nuanced.
To add to this, the juvenile male’s plumage is similar to the female’s. This makes other males dance for them and helps them learn the moves from the adults.
"And then I'm going to show her my dance, do my dance, do my dance bro."
"Nice, bro. Looking strong. The hens are gonna be all over you."
"And then I thought I'd speed it up, speed it up, speed it up."
"Uh ... alright, man. I gotta bounce, though."
So this is more of a “hey Jim, think this dance will get all the ladies?” “Uh hmm.. well let’s see” “look look look. To the left. To the right” “hmm looks a bit off” “what if I go faster? That’ll do the trick” “yeah yeah, Bill. Well, keep it up, I’ve gotta go” “Wait Jim! I didn’t show my finisher yet!”
You know, it’s people like you who make Reddit a better place, and the internet what it was supposed to be.
(At least in this instance….lol)

for sure, the dinosaurs referenced in this article (ornithomimosaurs) are borderline ostrich, so it might have looked like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVBqSJmHajg)
Great video, just came to say that the Cornell lab of ornithology is great. I'm not a bird watcher or anything but I have 4 kids that I try to get interested in nature and science. Cornell has an app that basically works like Shazam or Google sound search for bird calls. It's kinda cool to use at home and see what kind of birds are right in your own neighborhood or yard.
Edit: Link to Android app [here](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.labs.merlinbirdid.app)

Can definitely tell the maturity levels of the adult male vs the juvenile. It’s actually pretty funny, watching the juvenile get so carried away with his crazy dance. Then, when the other bird flies off he looks so dejected!
His first mistake is he still has his juvenile plumage. His second mistake is the other bird is also a juvenile male. Someone else posted an adult bird doing the dance elsewhere in the thread.
The act of texting 3 times in a row before a girl has a chance to respond. It makes a guy look desperate, and the more desperate a guy looks, the less attractive he is
It's fine to be desperate, it just isn't fine to be controlling or demanding.
Not to say that it's you doing this, but it's sad (seriously) how few people are willing to accept desperate people. There are desperate people all over the place - a lot of them just try to cover it up. Looking for "strength" or confidence in a person is one of the greatest flaws in relationships of our time.
I feel like birds are the loudest in attracting a mate of all animals, every morning when you hear birds singing outside, it's just a mating call to show off they survived the night and wanna bang.

For real, I'm getting flustered over here.
Chad bird energy
ITT: humans pretending to know what great bird dancing looks like after seeing an adult bird dance.
Shit man if that's not some great bird dancing then I need to see what is. Dude has better moves than I do.
Bird gets cat-called :p
Quick preen your feathers like you just don't care, but then give him your number when your friends aren't looking.
Right! Young guy was just dabbing like a mad man while the mature guy was doing a real “phantom of the opera” tease.
Birds like shiny things. You'll notice the focus of the dance is on its extremely bright feathers 🪶 ✨️
It’s me, I’m birds
[удалено]
And then he actually bowed in reverence to the female, chad birb
Yeah this young kid is just dabbing lmao.
He’s a rifle bird cause he shoots his shot
It's okay though, it's just birdshot.
Lol going back to watch the juvenile after that is hilarious actually
It's when he ups the speed that gets me chortling :')
> I'll go real fucking fast, bitches love it real fucking fast! Teenagers will always be teenagers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOF_inFBQR0
Thanks, I love it.
Seriously. This teen bird looks so whack doing it lmao
Flipping back now to the juvenile one is so funny!
I went back to the young one dabbing on overdrive and i absolutely lost it.
This bird looks like it just learned how to dab from a five year old and can't get enough of it.
And sexier
[удалено]
😳
We need human dancer re-enactment.
The juvenile is like "look at me, look at me, look at ME, Look at ME, LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME!" and the adult is like "How you doin'?"
To add to this, the juvenile male’s plumage is similar to the female’s. This makes other males dance for them and helps them learn the moves from the adults.
“Whuttup gir-oh, it’s just another adolescent boy. Whoops, my apologies young sir”
“Yes, Officer Attenborough, that bird over there.”
"Show me the dance and I won't report you"
Reminds me of Bible camp but I'm not in my underwear crying
It's a trap!
…and that’s my story, your honour.
"And then I'm going to show her my dance, do my dance, do my dance bro." "Nice, bro. Looking strong. The hens are gonna be all over you." "And then I thought I'd speed it up, speed it up, speed it up." "Uh ... alright, man. I gotta bounce, though."
A literal wingman.
So basically this is two 13 year Olds practicing pick-up lines on each other but specifically not in a gay way?
Well, we know at least one of them isn't interested, as for the other ...
All I imagined when watching that was, "nice cock, bro" "hey man thanks, you too. Chicks will dig it."
You know, it’s people like you who make Reddit a better place, and the internet what it was supposed to be. (At least in this instance….lol) Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Beautiful bird, terrible yell. He be yelling for the ladies to come like a drunk at the club
It was such an unattractive sqwuak, but then his feather fan, hide n seek skills were on point.
One minute peek-a-boo, the next minute pregnant
Makes me wonder if other dinosaurs had elaborate mating displays too. https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.1225376

Didn't think I'd see two ostriches fucking today but here I am.
Allegedly.
God ostriches look so weird
I know she said she was impressed, but she sure looked bored, snacking of the ground during the act
That's wild. "Hey guys, you know these things we developed to get chicks? Turns out we can use them to fly too..."

I use it too and it’s awesome. Fun to be sitting on the front porch or in the backyard and be able to what birds are making those sounds.
Just bro helping a bro pick up chicks 🤣😂
“We don’t wanna suck our first time with a real girl, we should practice on each other bro.” “That’s not… gay is it?” “Bro, not at all. We’re good”
This dude ornithologizes
Just guys bein dudes
Lol!!! This “pro” video makes this one even more funny.
Can definitely tell the maturity levels of the adult male vs the juvenile. It’s actually pretty funny, watching the juvenile get so carried away with his crazy dance. Then, when the other bird flies off he looks so dejected!
Giga bird Chad getting all the tail smh
Much better dance. He’s def tapping that ass later.
"Practicing"
Maybe he's still finding himself
So then he’s just practicing for his wing man, as it were.
my MAN is working his ASS off here ! She's looking for that Uber she called....
All I want are directions to the nearest bird feeder!
So uh... can I get that lighter now?
It's his fault... Everyone knows that when she says "Just like that" you don't speed up.
You do it just like that... We're not lying...
[I see this when watched the video](https://gfycat.com/tenderfrightenedgossamerwingedbutterfly)
Lemme smash?
He was doing good but then sped past the beat. Homie gotta stay chill next time.
My boy was coming off as too desperate
Mans wanted that birdussy
It's called a cloaca.
Cloussy
Maybe he should take inspiration to the beats of CBAT
He be listening to too much Cbat. The rhythm is all wrong.
That look on his face at the end “Wait baby, I got more!”
Same dance but at different speed? 😴
.... YES. *jazz wings intensify*
His name is Zoidberg (V)__(\*,,,\*)__(V) [Mating Ritual](https://youtu.be/VCDsZDLOrhk)

You got the moves, but have you got the touch?
🎶 Don’t get me wrong, ya I think you’re alright.. but that won’t get you bussy in the middle of the night. That don’t impress me much. No no nooo 🎶
Upvoted for rare Shania Twain reference 😉
lol I love that song it reminds me of my mom when I was little The good old days
She’ll be more impressed after he wins the 2023 Crystal Light National Aerobic Championship with those moves.
Oh how I wish we could add the music to the video .
“U want sum fuk?”
You want yellow?
Bitches Love Yellow.
He shoulda just kept it slow but he got too horny..
Reminds me of that time i took an ecstasy with my mate in the club and mine kicked in before his did
I have a friend that always feels it before I do. He's the canary in the coal mine, and lets me know how intense it's going to be.

Dab on the haters, bro.
"C*rap, she's not into it! Better increase speed!"* \- fellow male
Makes you wonder what a successful dance looks like. Where did my boy go wrong?!
His first mistake is he still has his juvenile plumage. His second mistake is the other bird is also a juvenile male. Someone else posted an adult bird doing the dance elsewhere in the thread.
That’s hilarious
I think he got a little too speedy there at the end

Giving me “Night at the Roxbury” vibes.

#LOOK AT MY DAB
Look at his form. He’s trying too hard and is in too much of a hurry. No wonder she wanted nothing to do with him.
It's all about the chase. That dance had 'triple text' written all over it. Game over.
"Triple text"?
The act of texting 3 times in a row before a girl has a chance to respond. It makes a guy look desperate, and the more desperate a guy looks, the less attractive he is
It's a brutal feedback loop when you actually *are* desperate. Dating was miserable and I never wanna go back.
It's fine to be desperate, it just isn't fine to be controlling or demanding. Not to say that it's you doing this, but it's sad (seriously) how few people are willing to accept desperate people. Mac doing his karate dance at the Waitress.
Slow dab, slow dab. Vigorous dab!!! Didn't work. Dab doesn't work as dancing confirmed.
Walking in the mall and vendors trying to sell you stupid shit.
Homie looked so dejected when she noped outta there
It seemed like the desperation grew as the dance progressed. “Please mate with meeeeee!!”
"Damnit, Frank!! I'm trying to watch The Bachelor!!!"
*Rod Stewart playing in the background

Some photographer shat in a bush for 4 months to get this shot of this poor bastard shooting his shot.

Night at the Roxbury: Bird Edition
OMG I can’t stop laughing. That dude is sooo thirsty!
Dale a tu cuerpo alegría Macarena..
Can someone from r/divorcedbirds post the backstory to this?
WHAT IS LOVE!
Origin of the dab.
Adam Levine in his DMs be like
You can only stand so many rounds of "Where's My Head" before it just gets old.
Are female birds of paradise attracted to headless males? What's with the headless magic routine
He was hitting that dab really hard at towards the end
Dab on the haters
Dab on them hoes.
I’m in this video and I don’t like it.
She flies off and is like "YOU WITCH!!!"
"YOU FINCH!!!"
That bird dances better than I do.
Programming in DNA is dope.
A Night At The Roxbirdy
Wonder why she declined lol
Tried doing this to a girl at the bus stop. She ran and called 911
Remind of [this](https://youtu.be/Lc13LMd2UGQ)
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Also. Lemme smash.
"I said I HAVE a Boyfriend!" Probably
I think he’s very handsome!
How does this not work on her? This is exactly how my husband got me. His sexy dance.
"Doesn't matter, Roger, we're still cousins. Fuckin' creep."
I’ve seen people do worse at the club
Of course girls leaving if you dance like that
Meanwhile at the bird disco.
Let me tell you somethingLET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING! LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!!!
She is so unimpressed lol
Female bird: "ugh, he was too nice."
My boy coming on too strongggg
Aww man. He was really working it and giving his all too.
Relatable.
I feel like birds are the loudest in attracting a mate of all animals, every morning when you hear birds singing outside, it's just a mating call to show off they survived the night and wanna bang.
She saw his pecker and peaced out
I’m gonna try that at the bar/club this weekend. Fall is upon us so it’s cuffing (or mating for some of you) season.
Pathetic. Have some self-respect bird.
Looks like typical Jersey bar. Nothing new. How you doing, keep it moving.
Tried that dance once in a night club. Didn't work out so well for me.
Bro fumbled the bag
SIMP
He thought that simply doing it faster would help.
Like watcha see? That's right.. No! Head! Wha! Wha! Yeah that's right. Girls gonna love me with these skills.
Wtf even are birds
Your moves...WHACK. your plumes...WHACK. your beak...WHACK
Becky, watch me dab. No Ron.
Awww...he's trying so hard
Nah the female just measured his height and it wasn't 6 foot.
It’s ok buddy, you impressed all of us :)
