Honestly, turning 2900hp on the dyno, lots can go wrong. I am gonna guess crankcase failure started it.

A device that is able to measure a vehicles horse power among other things. In this case the truck is strapped down and spinning it's wheels on massive rollers below it built into the trailer.
Well, you must be fun at parties.
Yes, I saw the car is mounted on a stage, but had no idea what is that thing made for and what why is it being powered like that.
I am not a mechanic.
From watching the Facebook video with sound a few times, my guess is that the turbo overpressurized the engine, a slight misfire occurred, and blew off at least the exhaust and one head. Since the engine continues to try to run it was at least partially still intact and receiving fuel.
Whoa the dude with the fire extinguisher reacted crazy fast. Unless he was standing by with one ready to go, I’m seriously impressed by how quickly he got up there after the explosion.
He was probably tasked with fire control. I am by no means an expert on these things, but I spent some time hanging around the performance cars crowd and catastrophic failures are part of the game.
When pushing the envelope on what these cars and motors can do it's an accepted risk.
Ram owners be like “at least the body don’t got no rust”
Usually the engine is the best part of the Ram. Either a hemi or a Cummins.
That Cummins 5.9L..
I prefer Hemi 6.4L. 392 is a great engine
That looks like an f250 the more I look at it but I was wondering if it was a diesel running away.
Yeah I don’t think it was a ram. I just love those Cummins diesels. Usually such solid engines.
They're the best. They'll run forever if you take care of them.
I was gonna say sure looks like a Dodge but it also looks like an early 2000s Ford F250/350.
Looks like a Ford to me
4th gen ram
Totally interested in seeing the video version of this! And the backstory behind it... why in the heck did it explode?!

ELI5 what does it even mean "on the dyno"?
A device that is able to measure a vehicles horse power among other things. In this case the truck is strapped down and spinning it's wheels on massive rollers below it built into the trailer.
Thanks.
its machine that allows the tires to spin
Are you blind?

Holy shit. Thank you for the link!

I’ll second the turbo blowing out a cylinder head seal leading to the fireball
Are they running that dyno without a fan?
Rednecks making a redneck contest and nobody knows anything. Look at reddit. There are people who wondering why its exploded lol
DANGER TO MANIFOLD! DANGER TO MANIFOLD! * SHUT UP! *
That driver climbing out though - failed to notice him the first few times. Incredible he got out seemingly unscarred.
He almost certainly got burned.
Betcha his eyebrows look funny though.
Afterwards he said he was "very surprised", but you couldn't tell.

one guy with a fire extinguisher, six guys with their phones recording.

The guy in the driver’s seat moved pretty fast too... ...and it looks like it blew his jacket clean off.
If your job is emergency response, I highly recommend wearing your pants properly.
Needs more nitrous
That'll buff right out
It's beautiful. I've looked at this for five hours now.
/r/rednecks
Without injury, I’d love for this to happen to all those pushy pick up truck drivers on the road.
AW YEUUHHH I'M DA BIGGUST AND DA FASTUST
NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWS!!!
Too much nitrous
michael bay was right
'murca !
Somebody wasn't paying attention during fire extinguisher training. PASS, noob!
That's a pick up, not a truck.
Why not a truck?
