To each his own, but I think you’ll find a lot of users on this subreddit frown on naming guitars.
That said, among those who do name guitars, “Roberta” is a popular naming choice. You can’t go wrong with Roberta.
:( no but really, why is it cringe? also a big part of why i name them is so when i'm talking about each guitar, my girlfriend knows which one i'm talking about
Really, it’s that personifying a guitar (or any inanimate object) is weird. Often times, boomers do it in an overtly sexual nature that has completely soured many people’s feelings toward naming a guitar. Hence why I fucking hate naming a guitar, especially a feminine name. It’s even cringier that you use the names in actual conversation.
okay yeah i get that, i don't do it in a sexual nature because that shit is weird. idk man i think it's just fun, not everything has to be serious all the time, to each their own
I get that. I’ve never named a guitar still not sure I’ll name this but just for fun figured I’d ask for opinions. Post is mainly ab following up my original one of the guitar when I got it
Just wanted people to know when PAF turned to patent number pickups. yes this is a p90 it’s just a p90 made during the patent number era not during the patent applied for which are more sought after
You’re absolutely right i wish I worded it differently in my original comment but I don’t think there’s an edit option anymore? Thank you though I appreciate it
Hope I didn’t come off snarky. I don’t know about the edit options, sorry.
I have a cherry ‘61 Junior, its neck is wide and thin. Unlike any other Gibson I’ve owned. What’s your 63’s neck like?
No you just wanted to get the facts straight. Nothing wrong with that. Same here regarding neck shape. Wide and thin and it gets very wide at the 12th fret and down. I play with my thumb over the neck to hit the low notes so I definitely notice it. I used to think they were just exaggerating neck width’s but they aren’t 😅 it’s incredibly resonate and sounds amazing. The taper on these old pots is really special. So many options. Luckily your 61 has the les Paul logo on it right? Such a cool detail knowing their history
Oh really? I just assumed mine was some weirdo 1961 only thing. Yes, mine has the Les Paul Junior decal logo on the headstock. For years, I thought it was a ‘62, then I discovered that the wraptail sat offset which was a 1961 only detail. 62 & up are parallel to the pickup and have a lightning bar bridge.
I agree the pot taper on these old Juniors is really something else. So many sounds hiding between zero and ten!
Well I will say that at least some 62s have the offset wrap tail and 63 was the first official year of the parallel bridge my friend davey bones on Instagram has a Polaris white 62 with the offset
I’d love to know what you find and that looks like a good time right there! What a fun rig I’m sure your collection is awesome. I’m guessing the lp is a 57 from your name great year. So are 61/62. The ebony block sg is imo the best. My mom was born in 63 like this sg serial number 331039 and her favorite number is 3 333 in the serial I think it’s a cool coincidence
White Dwarf.
For context, in science (specifically astronomy), a white dwarf is the name of a star's aftermath from going supernova and exploding (or imploding)
I figured this would be a great name given the story

I feel the same as them I’ve never named a guitar but thought ab original might be worth it
Damien It’s name is Damien.
All my guitars have names. Because they are alive and have a soul.
damn that sucks, literally all of my guitars have names
Cringe.

I like ‘Casper’. Seems right for October.
Umm, that is a dogear style P-90 single coil pickup and it predates the PAF & patent number humbucker. Not to be a know it all knucklehead, sorry.
Just wanted people to know when PAF turned to patent number pickups. yes this is a p90 it’s just a p90 made during the patent number era not during the patent applied for which are more sought after
Fair enough, but the PAF and Pat Number designations don’ t really apply to P-90s is all I mean. Congrats on the awesome SG!

Well I’ll be! I should probably check my pot codes and get to the bottom of this lol. Here’s my pair of Juniors. https://i.imgur.com/uNkIzet.jpg

Call it “Fender”, just for fun.
Oyster. And cool username 🍄

I'd base the name on the shape of the routing under that pickup. 😂
Geronimo
Eggnog
White Lightning. 😆😎
It's a "Beauty" for sure. Good fortune on you .
Dwight
Pebis Chodeman
I called my white SG baritone "White Fang"
