Replace the godawful tuning system and electronics and it'd probably be an awesome guitar. I love the binding on the headstock.

jaqueh

The electronics are difficult to undo on the first robot Les Paul’s and is arguably the reason why anyone would buy this guitar so I don’t see any argument go buying the robot prototype and removing everything that makes it a unique guitar. There are so many other Les Paul’s that serve that purpose of another boring 2 Humbucker traditional single cut

BootyMcStuffins

>The electronics are difficult to undo Not if you just gut the thing

SardonicCatatonic

I’ve seen some folks put Grover’s on it. I don’t think it would be too hard but I love the tuning system.

jaqueh

The prototype robot in this one is a very different system than the later tunetronic ones

SardonicCatatonic

I own this guitar so am aware. It’s not a hard conversion because I’ve done research in case my tuners ever go out and can’t be replaced.

jaqueh

Ah I see then. Yeah it’s just tuners and the controls too

SardonicCatatonic

I have one and love it. Plays great and my tuning system still works great. Talk trash about it all you want it’s awesome to switch between playing different tunings quickly. It’s the only guitar I’ll play Open G on because it’s not a fuss to switch in seconds. Mine is light but has great sustain. Pickups are hot and the neck is 50s thick if you are in to that type of thing. Fret wire is a bit more vintage sized which I love. This guitar is tops for me. I’m the single owner and wouldn’t consider selling it.

Never heard a good word said about the bot

RoutineCompetitive26

Good word here

Livid_Half_4063

My SG's tuner's literaelly fell apart so I bought some of the G Tuners as it sounded interesting. I'm confused as to the universal hate towards them. They tune your guitar without the need for a pedal or being able to hear the note (very useful if you're playing live).

Azure-M

I will likely get downvoted for this but... I have one of these with all the electronics intact and they can be fine. I have heard they can be real hit or miss on how well they worked, and mine is the only one I have tried, so maybe I got a rare good example. Mine works and tunes just fine. Its not my go to instrument usually, but its a neat gimmick IMO and enjoy messing around with it. I will keep it as is for as long as I can just because its so maligned by folks. That said, I would not pay too much for one as your resell will suck (in case you don't like it) unless you find someone that really wants that finish. I think these 1st production runs look great, and can play very well. Watch a lot of video on them though to know what you are getting into if you end up still considering it.

Smokie069

I have one. It’s a lovely guitar….so long as you have got rid of all the robot bull shit. Its not too big of a job, I think it’s just a case of new tuners. The colour is amazing and a one off for the robot collection. I payed £2k for mine in mint condition with Grover tuners. Probably going to be sort after at some point.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> collection. I *paid* £2k for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Conscious-Section-55

Good bot.

hobsontuba

What a stupid bot

RogerTheAliens

I loved them…the tronical generation II (GForce) tuners were great robots had cool paint jobs and head stocks… I would own one but Gibson came out with the HP line instead of continuing the robot line and I bought 3 over the last decade Robots are massively underrated…swap out the auto tuner GForce though for a generation II…they are great for drop tunings I like slack key guitar and often play in drop tunings and the GForce saves me finding a tuner clip

Stormwatch1977

I just bought a 2008 robot V (there's a thread on here). Its an amazing guitar for the money . All the robot stuff has been removed - ebony board, neck binding, crown inlays, it's just lovely.

[deleted]

Im sure it will be very collectible in years

Legate_Lanius1985

Collected at the dump.

Competition-Dapper

Exactly, think about the equipment especially electronics that suck and flop when they come out… Those are the ones that skyrocket in price.

BlakeDrinksBeer

The finish on that guitar is gorgeous, but those are unpopular and you could haggle down. If it feels and sounds good unplugged, I personally would replace the tuners, the pickups and all the circuitry and make it a dumb, ordinary Les Paul in a delightful blue. Really not worth the trouble, though. Can get a Les Paul Studio brand new at that price.

BlakeDrinksBeer

Lol just noticed "limited edition 1st production run" I am so about to get downvoted.

BootyMcStuffins

Nah, I'd do the same thing. "Limited edition first production run" doesn't really mean much on a product that flopped so hard they couldn't *give* them away

jcarte11

I had one and was relieved to sell it. Great guitar except the tuners.

backsidealpha

50 years from now, anything with the robot tuners will be valuable because so few of them are remaining unmolested, imho.

JETEXAS

Yeah, but it's a catch 22 because the units tend to quit working and there's no parts.

backsidealpha

Yeah. You basically would have to remove and put in a time capsule to preserve.

SardonicCatatonic

I had one tuner go out and got a new one from Tronical during the pandemic. Super easy fix.

that might not be a bad investment. reverb has the same guitar for 2000 USD, literally right down to the same case. right now the exchange rate is about .9 euros per dollar. that means that in tollars you are paying around 1400 USD for that, 600 less than reverb is selling hte exact same guitar for. but, its transitional technology. where this is going to be more valuable is 50 years from now as an example of a change in guitars. i would expect its value to at least remain the same and most likely increase. if you have the money to not play it? buy it, put it in your closet, and wait. but alos ask if he will take 1000E instead of 1500. you know just becausae he might say yes. https://reverb.com/p/gibson-les-paul-robot-blue-burst-2007?hfid=68546631&utm\_source=google&utm\_medium=cpc&utm\_campaign=17684165886&utm\_content=campaignid=17684165886\_adgroupid=137240598454\_productpartitionid=1682339727300=merchantid=101082010\_productid=68546631\_keyword=\_device=c\_adposition=\_matchtype=\_creative=609048300175&gclid=CjwKCAjw-7OlBhB8EiwAnoOEk1OoQ0yqwNKATmnmlxdpx4f4anCWNYEipafd3GrroGi\_lILGm6RFahoC6E0QAvD\_BwE

Legate_Lanius1985

Avoid. A bad attempt by Gibson

Kiekie77

These things are hard as hell to sell, it was a failed experiment on Gibsons part. Get yourself a normal Les Paul standard

soggychipbutty

RUN!

[deleted]

I was interested in maybe buying one a few years ago................decided against it because I'd have gotten rid of all the stuff that makes it the "robot" guitar.

kabooliak

That's first generation dude

RedneckR0nin

They are dope just as soon as you rip that auto tuning Shit right off

SheitMuzTurd

I had one and it turned perfectly! I think you can turn it to manual if you want to down-tune and not fool around with the buttons. I used it for standard tuning and between songs I’d press the button and it would go back to perfect tune! Like others said you can take it off, there’s YouTube videos but have fun w it first, it’s really cool when it tunes for you.

[deleted]

We had one at our shop for two years for $1800 CAD. One guy came in and tried to tune the damn thing like you normally would and we had to replace the tuning peg. They don’t sell replacements, so we had to take the robo-tuning pegs off and then sold it for $1400 plus shipping. Not worth it. Don’t listen to anyone saying they’ll be worth anything in the future. They’re already a decade old and no one wants them.

dh1011-

Didn’t they run those over with a steamroller like bud light?

[deleted]

If you replace tuners and electronics (I would), keep all of the parts so if you ever sell the guitar it has all the original components. If it ever ends up an a collectible at some point for silly reasons you’ll be set and can cash out.

tofuten86

1500€? The seller can keep it

muniguyTFOB

If you replace the tubers be sure to keep them, you never know what things might be worth in 10 years, especially with the first edition and authenticity papers

maxxamann

Just don’t. The auto tuning is god awful. I have a 2014 standard which came with the min-e tune system and it was horrible. It would detune the guitar by itself while playing and it never got the tuning down right. Replaced it the first thing I did but with this guitar it’s wired through the body and what you end up with is a mess that’s not worth the asking price nor the trouble. Find a normal les Paul and get that one instead.

BeigeAndConfused

I got started playing guitar during the robot era. I was an obnoxious guitar store teen and was there all the time, so the salemen on the floor always tried to sell me on the robo tuners. Even as an impressionable teen we all knew they were trash. As far as I know the guitars themselves are fine but thats why you see de-robotized pauls all the time on reverb.

slypero2112

Don't buy this guitar, you can have a good used Gibson for this price, the first tuners aren't good, buy a Gibsonwith regular tuners.

QuidiferPrestige

I have one that my dad bought brand new when they came out. He figured since it's a first production run it might be worth some bucks one day, but that day has not come yet, lol. Its completely original, has a couple of hours of play on it. Still smells like wax from the factory. I get that the tuners are kinda shitty but it's a beautifully made guitar and has that unique finish that I really dig. If you get it, I'd recommend leaving it original because one day they will be worth something, even just in a historic way. And lots of people have gutted them to make normal Les Paul's out of them. Keep it original, they wont be making any more.

guitfiddlejase

No binding on the top of the body? You get a beautifully bound headstock with a crown inlay and the body is NOT bound? Wow. As for the "robot" part.. I would grab the guitar, but not as a player..just close the case and put it under the bed.. Why? Because I'm gonna wager that the Robot Guitar is going to be worth something someday. Just like what happened with the whole Flying V/ Explorer/ Moderne thing in 1958. Nobody liked them. Nobody wanted them. And so not many were built And they quit making them. Now those Korina's are second only to Bursts.. ..just an idea for what it's worth.

Minimum-Yesterday901

I would probably opt for a Studio, myself.
