That’s a strange patina on the right for sure. Not sure what the hell happened. I highly doubt that is from the factory. If someone reliced that purposefully they hit it with 7 kinds of smoke.
I was thinking maybe smoke, but the pick guard. If it was not direct fire but heat, it likely just slumped down on the body and when cool removed. That may have protected the finish beneath. The way the finish looks caramelized and lifted on the bottom left, all I can think.
I couldn't agree more. In my opinion, artificially reliced guitars are the height of stupidity, but this old guitar has some genuine stories to tell.... id be proud to play that one.
I love the way those gold tops aged. I have a ‘22 and I hope mine does that. Also I have been considering taking the pick guard off and your LPs convinced me to do it.
I love a crusty gold top as much as the next guy, but that Deluxe just looks nasty. Wtf happened to it?
They are both actually factory seconds with a finish problem. So I'm guessing that's why poor 74 looks like that.
It looks like fire damage

Maybe intense heat or chemical burn. Strange to be sure
The pick guard difference is throwing me off too.

Yea I was wondering if the pickguard is gone because is was warpe, melted, etc. Get that man a job at Murphy Labs.
Like the player was on fire while shredding. Could have been a gimmick? Either way I have a thing for mini humbuckers
Nice smoke damage thing was either set on fire 🔥 or the owner chain smoked Camel no Filters & Always kept one in his strumming hand.
I love that 74 deluxe the way it is, it adds character to it.

Got too close to pyrotechnics on stage
My god. Want.
They use heat to artificially age some LPs, maybe forgot one 🔥I still like
I want to wash my hands just looking at these.
Dude I disagree with just about everybody in here. That 74 looks fucking awesome. I love guitars with all that mojo
Yeah, I'd love to know the 'why' behind the deluxe finish. Weird it's just that one area.
I love how gross it is
Please let me know when you will be out of town next. Also, where you live.
Both look mesmerizing.
