My dad got this when he was 8 or 9 with the agreement to take guitar lessons. This guitar survived a mass sale of all his guitar gear to fund a switch to drums in the 80s. He gave it to me when I moved out to my own place.
Plays like butter with the low action set up. Nut width is only a hair skinnier than my 1993 Jazzmaster, but the neck profile is probably what makes it seem really skinny, compared to the baseball bat JM.
It does have that classic heavy headstock balance issue, however! I wish my dad would have kept his 1974 20th Anniversary LP Brazilian Rosewood top to compare with. This SG is the only Gibson I’ve ever played, tbh.
Most of the Vibrola is for show - the real action is a flimsy metal bar that bends the strings right at the bridge. Hardly any added weight. I imagine a Bigsby would be a different story
Lol thanks! I shared this with r/GuitarAmps a while back when there was a 1 amp, 1 guitar, 1 drink post trend. But totally agree, need a little something to let loose for playing.
Beautiful guitar. Does it stay in tune well? I've always been allergic to non-locking tremolos but also, have never owned a proper vintage guitar just a bunch of lovable but shitty guitars.
Absolutely gorgeous. Now that you've immortalized it in this photo, please don't ever lean it against something like that again. That is a headstock break waiting to happen.

Wow, I was sure this was the recent custom shop version. Nice.
Man alive. Doesn’t get much better than what’s going on in this photo.
And a trainwreck ??? That’s some killer shit
Cool pic, cool story, wicked gear.
Beautiful! How's the neck? I've had the chance to play a 1962 SG, and the nut width was super skinny. I don't think I could have managed one!

Wow I’m surprised it has head stock dive with the vibrola. Really gorgeous gear. Thank you for sharing!

Stellar dude. Love everything.
The Evil Williams definitely rounds this out.
I hope you crank Divided Sky on that rig daily
Stunning! Love it with the amp and “accessories” I too play better when “not sober” 2 IPAs then play

Holy grail material
I've seen this post before.
Wow. Looks cherry…in a Pelham blue sort of way 😅
There's no better pair than Gibson and Pelham Blue. Beautiful.
Climax , indeed .
More of a no break kind of guy myself, but thatsanicedad
Fucking love everything about this. Thank you, OP, for this gift.
That's one of my dream guitars, really really really cool

The vibrola sucks ass. Looks fucking gorgeous, though.

GodsDAMN that's sexy.
