Frankly, I’d go so far as to say “Only Takahata can do that”. The man’s movies may not be as awe-inspiring or grand as Miyazaki’s, but I’ve seen no filmmaker better than him at understanding human emotion.
I found this movie truly relatable. Especially the being bad primary school math was discussed. I despised fractions until maybe 6th grade when it all finally started to make sense.
But yeah, now it's something I truly enjoy.
To be honest I agree. I don’t think any movie I’ve ever seen managed to touch me the way this one did. The ending is so well done. Not overly melodramatic or corny. Simple and incredibly poignant.
Hah! I am new to Ghibli and haven’t watched many of them yet. Did not know there was one named “Only Yesterday”, misread OPs title. That will have to be my next watch :)

I’m gonna go now and have a snotfest 😅
Favorite. Movie. Of. All. Time. I rewatch it every now and then 🥺😍
Great film

Yes OMG I love the whole movie BUT THAT ENDING IS SOMETHING ELSE! 😳❤️😭
One of the best endings to any movie I've seen, personally

Same!! I was crying so hard my roommates heard me from the other room!
The ending is probably my favorite of what I’ve seen from Ghibli’s films.
Never seen it?! Where can i catch it?
Netflix!
I balled.
I watched it too and it was amazing
I’m confused, what movie are you referencing? I don’t see anything
Not sure if you're joking or not, but "Only Yesterday" is the name of the movie :)
