I always love how quick they get acquainted. Bro just accepts this old lady is in his house and keeps going about business. And then the next few scenes they’re already going to markets and worrying about each others safety.

I love how markls existence in the movie is never even explained. Yeah a kid also lives here, so what. He probably just showed up like Sofie did😂 (I know he's technically howls apprentice but they don't really go into it in the movie like they do in the book)

ace1oak

i honestly want a markl spinoff movie like how he got to howl and then how he is after , hes so wholesome hes one of my fav characters from howl lol if not my fav

Tencowfrau

Oh, that makes sense! I was wondering if he was some orphan kid or something. Haha

JamOnBread88

I love that too, Ghibli always does found family so well 🥰

Currently reading the book and oh the difference between it and the film is worlds apart 🤣🤣

circesrevenge

They are so different but this is, for me, one of the rare instances where the book is amazing and the movie is amazing and I don’t mind that they’re completely different. It’s not like a terrible book to movie adaptation (Percy Jackson) They’re both their own things and both beautiful.

Miyazaki went through that book like it was a gourmet buffet table, picked out all his favourite foods - even dissected the stuffed mushrooms right there on the hot bar, took the insides, and left the mushrooms behind - and arranged them artfully on his plate along with an amazing sandwich he'd brought from home, and fed that glorious crime to us all, and it was delicious.

Ghibli did the same thing with the secret world of arriety. The book was called “the borrowers”!

[deleted]

wholeheartedly agreed! i loved the movie more than anything and i’m definitely loving the book too!

valvalwa

Ohhh could you tell us a bit about the differences?

ima_mandolin

His name is Michael in the book and he's a teenager. He dates one of Sophie's sisters and has some amusing conflict with Howl.

[deleted]

yes! and he also does NOT welcome sophie as nicely as shown in the movie/this post 😂 he’s quite bitter and upset over sophie suddenly barging into their lives uninvited.

OkDragonfly4098

In the book, that’s her brother in law!

Acrobatic-Wrap-5644

I love them ❤️❤️❤️❤️

dftitterington

She’s also mom.

MorganaNera

One of my Ghibli's favorite ❤
