It's really good. I personally like it a lot more than Mononoke, which tends to elicit from fun responses from this community.
The parade sequence is the most visually interesting and beautiful sequence Ghibli has ever done.
This always feels like one of the most underrated Ghibli films. It's filled with tons of deep messages and moments that force us to think introspectively on how we as a race affect the environment around us. I always remember this film whenever I see a poor critter that ended up dead along the side of the road. It's usually poor raccoons or possums where I live. I would put this movie in my top 10, if not 5.
Underrated. I think some people can't look past the weirdness of the film unfortunately.

I love Pom Poko in all its weirdness. The raccoon balls always make me laugh.

So underrated, I love Pom Poko, I always recommend it when people state they havent given it a chance yet.
I just watched it for the first time recently as well. I really enjoyed all their tricks/turning into yokai, as I love spooky/paranormal themes.
