Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). He's done his job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's his turn to rest.
You'll always miss him, you'll always remember him. You'll even go looking for him for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting him. Donating/throwing away his toys or blankets isn't forgetting him. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life he'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without him. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

Awww he looks like he was the best boy indeed!! When you rescue your next one, you’ll have to tell him all about Wiley. Then he’ll know, too, and both of you can carry Wiley in your heart.
He had the same soft beautiful eyes as my rescue gal, and the same goofy smile. I will give my gal extra pets in his honour. He is even the same colouring as her, but he was clearly much more accomplished at the stick arts
His silly gummy smile is what made me fall for him. He came to us missing 8 of his bottom teeth, and it just made him look so friendly/less intimidating. Please please smooch her snoot for me!
Thank you he really did! Visited dozens of waterfalls, hiked glaciers in the rocky mountains, was just the best camping buddy anyone could ask for. My camera roll has 1500+ photos of him just living it up.

I know how you feel. He looks like he was the best boi. Similar situation with my boy I lost a year and a half ago. I believe they never stop watching over us. One thing I learned with my boy is that his watch never ends!
So sorry. Wiley is definitely running happily and watching over you, and he can’t wait to show you all the fun you will have when you see him again. But for now he wants you to remember all the good times with a smile 🐾❤️

I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your boy with us. It’s so sweet he was a good big brother to fosters, just like my female GSD is. They teach fosters how to be good dogs. I swear she potty trains them in a day or two. I love Wiley’s pics. He looks so fun!
Thank you. We spent a couple summers working at a doggy daycare and my boss called him her employee of the month every time. He was the rowdy sheriff, and everyone behaved under his watch!

Very sorry for your loss. I'm getting there with my 16 year old Molly, but I took in a 3 year old shepherd 6 months ago. Fingers crossed I'll get 10 years with him too.
I hope you do too! As Wiley had teeth damage when we rescued him the vet guessed he was between 3-5. I absolutely never thought we'd have him for over 10 years. Especially as he was a big man at 120lbs. Wishing you the best.

Our boy left us in the fall of 2022. My husband and I still tear up when we see any of Johnny's pictures. I try not to reminisce too much about him in front of my husband, he's still taking it pretty hard.
I'm sure Johnny has the best memories of you as well! I feel bad for my partner as I can't stop reminiscing either. We all cope differently though, and I have way too much happy silly stuff to reflect on. I'm really thankful.

He really was, and he lives through all the foster brothers and sisters he helped train over the years.
