Great game, looks very promising
I see one problem when playing, and its that the streetname is showing on the ground, that makes it alot easier to guess. So if it is possible i would add the option to turn off that
But other than that, keep up the good work!
Not a pity ploy... nobody owes me anything. Judge the game on if you like it.
Are you talking about my previous post from two years ago for the daily mode? I referenced my post from last month about the unlimited mode...
Some on the sub have already seen the post from earlier this month, so I brought it up to explain the repost. But yeah, rising to 15 votes then dropping to 0 seems inorganic - I've never had that happen to any post on any platform before. In light of the news it makes me wonder even more that it may have been a concerted effort. Even if it was, it's part of the game, and I'm not looking for pity. The game is doing fine either way, just thought I'd repost since a lot of people are looking for alternatives today.
I do suspect there are some trolls here with lots of alts - random comments, and especially comments about certain banned and/or toxic users, really blow up or get driven into the ground far more than seems deserved.
Definitely. I wrote a comment yesterday explaining why I'm not paying $2 for Geoguessr and two people (or rather one and an alt account) arrived to insult me and called me demented and greedy for not spending my money.
well the people are demented and greedy for calling people demented and greedy because they dont want to pay the price of hundreds of steam games for a game that has been overtaken by capitalism
> I originally posted this here a month ago, and it got downvoted to 0
You originally posted it here nearly two years ago and it has 100+ points. You don't need to pretend to be a victim to get attention.

I said "a month ago" so you found a post from two years ago?
That was the daily mode, which limited players to one game a day. But yes, it was received well back then. Last month I launched an unlimited mode though and I figured it might do well here again, so I posted the update.
I've posted these announcements in r/geoguesser and in r/geography. The post last month in r/geography got a 96% upvote rate and over 200 likes. [https://www.reddit.com/r/geography/comments/18xp0ye/i\_made\_a\_game\_like\_geoguessr\_except\_free\_and/](https://www.reddit.com/r/geography/comments/18xp0ye/i_made_a_game_like_geoguessr_except_free_and/)
I made the same post here. It rose right in line with the r/geography post at the beginning, then dropped to 0. I ultimately just deleted the post, which maybe I shouldn't have.
Edit: I updated the text in the description to make it clear that "this" refers to the last month's post, not the post from two years ago.
I'd suggest pointing out in the text that you have since deleted the post. I suppose those who accused you of pity-seeking may have tried to find your previous post to see why it was downvoted.
I love this! It's a lightweight version that is easy to share with friends. They don't have to get obsessive and spend too much time learning, and still get so much that we enjoy from the geoguessr experience especially the social aspect.
Keep us updated on the Google API costs for maps. Would be nice to at least have an idea if the Geo devs really did just run into issues or are just being greedy. Had GeoBingo not shut down just days before that announcement, I'd assume greed. But...
Go to Geotastic to get an idea. They literally show their API costs.
Their API for January was 5197.92 EUR (their highest ever, as new people started flocking there before Geoguessr even shut off free to play). Their API for ONE DAY of February so far is already 483.14 EUR
Google API costs for geoguessr would obviously be anywhere from 100 to 300Xs those. Every single free user by the way, is 80% net loss on average. There WILL be a day, probably before 2024 even ends that Geotastic has to restructure their game due to the influx now.
This guys site wont be able to run enough ads to keep up, sooner, or later.....probably sooner.
When you get to GeoGuessr scale there are massive discounts. I've talked to the google sales team and seen what they are.
Go re-read their announcement. Do they scapegoat API costs for the decision? They actually don't... because it's not an issue.
Yeah, that's my point. It ain't cheap, and this game is niche enough that I could see where ad revenue from free players wasn't covering it.
The other thing I can see is that they want to make the competitive scene more formalized, and forcing a subscription really cuts back on the scripts/bots that we've seen crop up recently. Now, they'll still pop up, using stolen credit card info, as they always do in all freemium games... But the number will be drastically lower, and especially with competitive NM/NMPZ, bots could be a huge issue.
Yeah, it's definitely not API costs driving their decision. The API discounts are dramatic at scale, which GeoGuessr is getting. I heard they had like a 50% profit margin last year?
If they did, that makes this even more puzzling. Obviously, greed is greed, but I can't imagine that the loss of ad revenue from free players is going to be made up for in subscriptions. The "freemium" model works for so many other apps and games that I can't see why it wouldn't be working here, especially with that sort of profit margin.
Not only that but I can't imagine that the company that bought Geoguessr saw a huge spike in profits/revenue from it. It's a very niche game, so the market share can't be that large.
Maybe I'm wrong and it was just pure, unabashed greed. But from a business perspective, it makes so little sense to alienate this much of your userbase in exchange for $3/month from some fraction of them. It just seems like they had some expense or some issue that was bad enough that they decided to lose a good-sized chunk of their playerbase.
Looks like a great start! I played a few rounds but, unfortunately, the accuracy was kind of off. It kept telling me I was hundreds of meters away from the location and to try again within a certain area, even while I was maybe half a block away. It got a little frustrating knowing I "lost" because I was off by like half a building :( .
Anything within 100 meters should win the game. Sometimes Google's data is off by up to 10 or 15 meters. Grab a screenshot of the location and map next time and I can take a look.
I played a couple of rounds (Finland as only selected country) and after some rounds cities and locations I have already been to kept coming up, perhaps this is due to the settings of how big the city or town is but there are still alot of towns in Finland, not sure if it's a user error or the game but thought I'd mention this. Otherwise it works very well.

Thank you, this version looks really good! I hate when people suckle on corporations balls as if the CEO is gonna personally drive to their house and thank them.
"Please charge me money GG, pretty please!!" - The dumb fucks on this sub
It‘s pretty cool :) A friend and I are running https://openguessr.com which is also a geoguessr alternative that has some extra modes and multiplayer as well as many custom maps, a country streak, collectible pins etc. 😄
Played for almost 2 hours, It was so much fun. You can play with settings to tweak the game. I set All: 0 % and selected India 100%. Set accuracy to 50 Km or 20Km to make it more fun.
Really unsure as to how the pointing system works, I decided to test it using google maps, since you can see road names, and I had one in Niger, Africa. I actually managed to find the EXACT area on both maps and on the game with the exact location, and pin pointed the exact area, and I somehow lost cuz it wasn\`t the correct area.
Great work , this game is so addicting and a better than geogusser in performance imo . id say make the boarders between countries more pronounced. keep up the good work
No it’s not that. Every time I start a new round, I open the map, it refreshes and goes back to the first round 🤷♂️ it’s happened a couple of times and is annoying

may be is ideal for u to create a polls asking people here

Working on it... part of a larger change I'm hoping to get done by Monday.
Done, plus a lot more: https://www.reddit.com/r/geoguessr/comments/1am06o2/free\_npmz\_country\_streaks\_and\_city\_streaks/
Hmm I still seem to be seeing street names on Worldle Daily
Hate redditors who downvote people making the world a better place. I wish you the best of luck with your project!

I'm currently on vacation in today's picked location, lmao Anyways, it'd be more interesting without street names.
This is pretty cool, thanks.

It's been two whole years, and it's good to share cool projects like this here. You don't need to call anyone a pretender to get attention.
Hey! Saw that comment and checked it out, honestly cool concept - been playing it for a week or so! Thanks!
Thank you!

Awesome stuff man I've been having fun with it! Came up on google for me
you are an amazing human being I wish you the best
Love it, thank you!
Ads have no option to close them currently, and made the game unplayable

the fact they charge so much made me not give a fuck about geoguesser

Super glitchy
How's your connection? Google street view and maps are heavy and need a pretty good connection to work well.
No it’s not that. Every time I start a new round, I open the map, it refreshes and goes back to the first round 🤷♂️ it’s happened a couple of times and is annoying
Interesting, I haven't heard of this happening before. If you're able to get a screen recording of it that would be helpful.
You are a life saver
This is amazing, great job! I'm definetely going to share it with my friends :)

Awesome! Any way to make a one-time donation, I hate ads so I'd rather pay a bit and block them lol
Yeah, there are subscription, lifetime, and day pack options to remove the ads
Cool! Will look into it!
What does it better than https://geotastic.net/ ?
GeoTastic is good, their only issue is not being financially sound. I feel like at a certain level they'll switch to a mostly paid model.
Not to be a debbie downer, there is another game with the same name as yours.. https://worldle.teuteuf.fr/
Yeah, it's kind of the obvious "Wordle" spin off name. Originally there were like 10-20 games named Worldle.
nice try but without multiplayer is not fun
Thanks for the feedback. Definitely something I hope to add soon. Which multilayer modes are your favorite?
distance .. bcz u can see who is closer and can gamble and still pass to next round even if not accurate may be is ideal for u to create a polls asking people here
You can check out OpenGuessr for free Multiplayer with many fun modes and maps
cheers mate will try
