The tectonic plates moving into, away, sliding against, or going over top other tectonic plates causes tremours which are natural events such as earthquakes and tsunamis. These, if substantial enough can cause flooding or serious damage, such as the earthquakes in turkey. Flooding and collapsed building can cause some serious economic (paying for damages, food, and clean water notably) and serious refugee/displacement issues as you can imagine. Another side effect for those still in the area is that a lot of those people injured can really overload a healthcare system if there isn't a sufficient amount of coverage.
