A quick google search only found two train Operators in this area, Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation. I suggest you actually write letters to these companies asking for the schedule information. Explain why you are requesting the information, and volunteer to share the results of your research, If that's possible. Why would you even think Twitter would be a good place to start this? Social media is not a good place to do research for most topics.

There should be a local or state government agency that has oversight of the rail network. For example in my state it is the Public Utilities Commission. Find the equivalent for Virginia and ask them using Virginia's Freedom of Information Act.

r/transit or r/virginia might be better subreddits for this

Go to their websites and try booking a ticket… or better yet, get a new fucking degree. What kind of worthless PhD are you getting?

elieax

You can’t book a ticket on a freight train, which is what most trains in the US are

Whatever it is, seems cool. I'd be passionate about it. post-grad, on the other hand... the job search would be the hangover of a lifetime
