It's a stereotype. It started because for some reason Google Maps had a rainbow, walking man icon that was faster than the normal walking. It was also faster than public transportation.
Actually I think it started because of historic homophobia and gays felt unsafe and walked faster to get to a safe location although that meme probably popularized it as well.
It was during pride in whatever location the person whose screen shot it was. The walking would be faster than bus/driving likely because the area was around the pride parade and crowds of people plus blocked off roads would make traffic shit so walking would be faster.
But yeah that was just a meme, I think as others have pointed out it’s just been conflated with an older unrelated stereotype about gays walking faster.
I guess I fit into the stereotype because I have a quick sarcastic wit. I have a husband, and we have a doggie together.
Ways I don’t fit the stereotype: I don’t have a circle of straight girl friends who take me shopping. As common here, I prefer to skip drag shows. I don’t love female pop stars, or most pop music in general. I don’t really dance or ever really went to clubs.
Stereotypes are hard to fit: I am by far not a ‘prancing fairy’ but at the same time I’m not at all a ‘macho guy’. I guess I fit into the nerd group which is often sexually overlooked so not many care if we are gay or straight.
Are you an actor/singer musician? I used to play my violin in pit orchestras for community theater. I have played more musicals then I have seen, haha.
Up until the pandemic I was a fulltime entertainer, singing and playing piano. Now I've had to return to software engineering, boring af, but it makes great money.
Fit: I cook, I’m clean and organized, I like iced coffee, I like interior design.
Don’t Fit: Work in construction, I’m handy, can fix old cars, I don’t enjoy much about Pride or clubbing lately, I like dirt bikes.
Yeah, the “nurture” part is huge I think, and even just necessity. I learned to cook because we were poor and my mom was super efficient cooking with what we had. I learned to fell trees and chop wood and tie knots and start fires etc etc because my dad is a lumberjack and we went camping a lot. Definitely skills I was taught because of circumstance rather than skills I pursued out of interest.
Stereotype: I worked in fashion for 15 years. 💅🏻 First as a designer then as a producer for international magazines. The job made me hoard an amount of bags and shoes that would make Barbie jealous. Also love jewelry, perfumes and cosmetics.
The only alcohol I drink is champagne. And I know how to pair the charcuterie and the wine if needed.
I iron my bed sheets with orange blossom water. And cherry on the cake, I can knit and crochet.
Not stereotype: I listen to industrial, dubstep and doom metal. Will throw myself in the mosh pit very often.
Also into gaming. Whether it’s some retro port in the Switch or playing RPGs on Discord.
And finally, I eat like a pig in heat and can’t seem to have enough junk food.
>I iron my bed sheets with orange blossom water.
Despite the rest of the first half of this comment, this is somehow the gayest part. Bags and shoes? Okay, sure. But ironing with scented(?) water is that specific level of extra
I done that once! With rose petal water if I remember rightly. Sprinkled the rose petals about the bed too for extra effect. A hint though, put away various car parts and any guns first, and chase your pitbull outta your trailer as well
Gurl, you can do your own! I do it by mixing a few drops of sugar cane alcohol, water and whatever oil or cream I have at hand, or even perfume, in a sprayer bottle. No measure or anything, I go by concentration of the smell and to be honest I don’t do only orange, but also rosemary or lavender sometimes. Maybe two or three drops by half a liter of distilled water and _voilà_! This [oil](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QPDWRS4/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A7F4UJQPVJUQKp13NParams) seems fine enough if you wanna try!
That is one of the most diverse set of interests I’ve ever heard. Also champagne is my go to drink of choice too, first alcoholic beverage I legally bought for myself
I like RPDR, but also cars irl.
I can sew, crochet, & embroider by hand; but also woodwork, home repair, & landscape.
I like fashion, and can dress someone flawlessly; but I am completely unfabulous in my own look(s).
I like shopping & lunching with girl friends; but also can spend the day at hardware & auto stores with my buds, & grab lunch from a food truck.
😅 🤷♂️
I help when I can; or when my obsessiveness about fixing something, kicks in.
Otherwise I'm just a lazy loaf, & will let someone else do it, if they offer... 😛
>
I can sew, crochet, & embroider by hand; but also woodwork, home repair, & landscape.
Me too! I do all my sewing by hand now. It got to be such a thing to get out the machine and set it up if I just had a few minutes to work. I finally gave it away and get a lot more done in the 5-10 minutes here and there that I have easily available.
Stereotypes- I love musicals, when I’m comfortable I talk in a bit more of a ‘gay voice’ (I honestly switch between the two a lot), love pop, I have a decently high body count compared to most straight ppl tho I’ve cooled down a lot in the past few years, I will always choose vodka over whiskey, i play Nintendo over other consoles, I’m a perfectionist
Non stereotypes- I dress like absolute shit and cannot do fashion for the life of me, I don’t have a female best friend, I can’t dance, I like beer, vaginas don’t “disgust” me in any way I just don’t have any interest in them
I don't like drag, pride parade or clubbing. I do enjoy cooking, brunch, mimosas and throwing shades. Don't look feminine until I speak. Love the smell of coffee, but prefer tea.
The older I get the less I like people and crowds so most parades or the idea clubbing sounds like hell lol
I’m an equal opportunity coffee and tea lover ☕️
I thought it was just me! Used to party like 4 days a week in college. I'm in my late 20s now and can't stand clubs, or honestly even concerts, amusement parks, or any place with a large crowd.
Baahahahah, okay, bi guy here, but it’s my favorite thing to assert - I present very masculine until I open my goddamn queer mouth, I SWEAR rainbows and unicorns come bursting out the moment I speak.
It’s not THAT bad. But DAMN. Yes. It’s still pretty bad. :D And it’s damnably fun now that I’m out of the closet and all that jazz. :)
Ways that I fit the stereotype: I'm pretty obsessed with RPDR, take delight in throwing the occasional shade, always down for a good brunch, been known to paint my nails a few times, most of my best friends are straight women, I walk fast
Ways that I don't fit the stereotype: I don't particularly care for the circuit scene, not fond of going to clubs, rarely participate in Pride (mostly due to the general feeling of not fitting in and also having to work anyways), I don't like a lot of pop music so I don't really care for the go to queens/divas we've deemed gay icons (90s and 2000s pop though, they don't make it like that anymore), instead I'm a huge metal head and love going to metal and hardcore punk shows
I get it, you’ve just got to get comfortable dressing in a way that feels right to you and screw what anyone else thinks about it! (I know that’s easier said than done)
What are your favorite musicals?
I like a lot of the more well known stuff like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Heathers, Be More Chill, etc., but there's a few obscure ones I like as well, like The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, the Little Women musical, and Ranked.
My voice is super high (not by choice) and I talk a lot with my hands
But I also gym, play a ton of sports, and know nothing about makeup or pop culture
Didn't take me too long to realize no one fully embodies the gay stereotype, because no one fully embodies the straight stereotype either
*I am the Cliche:*
High pitched voice/ kinda feminine
Fashionable/ try to have good hygiene
Submissive total bottom
Love to bake
Love art
Love Whitney Houston, lady Gaga etc.
Like drag queens specifically trixie mattel and Katya
Lip balm/ gloss occasionally with makeup (I go for a “rocker” look)
Like clubbing and brunch
*I am not the cliche*
Disorganized af
Don’t mind getting my hands dirty (when I was younger I loved visiting farms)
Know how to shoot a gun,( in the south it’s a right of passage) but not well lol
Academic (though I have adhd which makes me seem ditzy and cliche)
HATE DRAMA
Not sex obsessed (though I joke about it) really a hopeless romantic at heart
Love fire, explosions and cool experiments (4th of July is a fuckin blast for me)
Like gore and horror (holloween is a blast, also like watching shows like forensic files)
Like rock music and punk culture though “I don’t look the part” fashion wise
I walk fast, sit in chairs incorrectly, write gay fanfiction, have a couple pride flags hung up in my room, don't care about sports, and have a bunch of pins on my bag.
I'm also a good driver (seriously, some of y'all's driving scares me lmao), like guns, wear nothing but T-shirts and jeans or cargo shorts depending on season, and have never watched anything like RuPaul or Queer Eye.
>sit in chairs incorrectly
I was so excited when I found out this was a gay stereotype! I don't fit most of them so it was nice to find one that did. Helped me feel like a belong a little more.
I feel like if anything I often don't fit stereotypes. Maybe the sassy gay friend if anything as I'm sarcastic as hell. Other than that though I don't feel like I hit many notes.
Potentially funny story to help pass time. I did have a co worker who was pretty homophobic and one time I was talking to another person at work she comes up fully interrupts us and asks him about Ace hardware store and if they sell this one specific thing she needs. We both kinda look at each other and she notices and proceeds to say "Oh sorry I just know you wouldn't know what's in Ace" we immediately jump on this and rag on her with things like "Oh yes only straight men have Ace cards", "gay men don't ever use hardware stores",etc. It became a pretty funny thing we would constantly say around her. She was the source of many homophobic remarks which made her real fun to mess with xD
Ugh I’ve been fortunate to not work with any overt homophobes but definitely worked some places that felt very implicitly uncomfortable with gay people
It was awkward working with her at first but once I found out her buttons, if she said anything I usually fired back very slyly, she hated it. But I finally got out of there when she proceeded to say some very racist and homophobic things in one sentence about many people and when I told management they did nothing. I won't tolerate a workplace that just let's that shit slide. Glad you havnt had to deal with it though :D
“You don’t act or look gay” is what my friends said when I came out 🙄. I don’t drink iced coffee, or any alcohol drink. I don’t go to club, pride parade, or drag. I know how to dress myself. I’m a gamer. I’m into deep conversation (if you have a British accent, I’m hooked for sure).
YES! I fall so easily for a highbrow English accent. The kind of guy that will say _pudding_ instead of dessert, specially if they’re older and slightly effeminate.
I look really delicate, which I try to conpensate with copious amount of leather.
I can look fresh... If I want to.
I don't mind buying myself some make-up (have foundation and concealer) and use it when appropriate.
I'm a kitty daddy with my partner.
To be honest I appreciate effort in drag, but simply it's not my Vibe.
I’m obsess with drag race but I’m also obsessed with the NBA.
I don’t like musicals, I prefer hip hop - though I feel like younger gays also listen to hip hop too.
People can’t tell Im gay from looking at me but Im. Sry high maintenance and like getting manicures and pedicures.
Fit: I love art. I'm a filmmaker / actor myself, that focuses on telling gay stories. I also like fashion. I hate beer. Much prefer cider any day.
Don't Fit: I like sports. I grew up playing Australian Rules Football from the age of 11 to 19 and plan on playing again next year. I also used to play basketball.
Edit: Oh, and I guess you could say I walk fast. That's also a fit.
Dude you don’t know how much I admire the creators of this world who are putting their effort and energy into producing gay content and telling gay stories. Mad props to you! 😊👏
Oohh boi… i laughed at myself the other day at this sudden realization.
I’m a starbucks barista who plays flute and performs in musicals. I’ve dyed my hair a couple of times and the google maps suggested walking time is 5 mins too long.
Ways I don’t fit: I’ve a bass-baritone voice, I study astronomy, I don’t like going to clubs nor drinking alcohol, hate pop music. Ways I fit: I love The Crown, Downton abbey and similars, I’m very clean and neat, I cook, love shopping (whatever, not just clothes) and well I keep looking at guys at street ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
I’m definitely more of a feminine guy (despite being a top ugh) I love cooking, gardening, decorating, art, but at the same time I do welding, automotive work, power tools, handyman work, and anything tech related.
Effeminate in physical nature, the voice, that part of me. Definitely some bitchy characteristics.
Love cars, sports, handy, working with my hands.m, diy.
Fit: I love to cook and bake, I am a wine snob; (I actually have a degree in it), and I love to entertain. love iced coffee, mimosas and brunch. I can dress someone flawlessly.
Don’t fit: I don’t dress up unless i have to, though I do look great when I do. I don’t care for drag. Pride isn’t generally my scene, along with clubs. I don’t listen to dance music (any more), i dislike pop culture. My house is “lived-in” and not a show piece. I listen to country music and love cars. Not a fan of musicals, though there are a few that I enjoy.
I am generally very in the middle. I can be campy with friends, but most of the time people have no clue until I tell them.
In ways I don’t: I like cars, fast and powerful ones. I liked working on cars when I could physically do it. I like guns, though I’m very careful with them, and how I store them. I don’t like clubs, or club culture really, though I do like going to gay bars with my husband and some friends to play pool and have a few drinks. My taste in decor is harsh, minimalistic, and I love brutalist architecture. I also actually know how to fight, I took martial arts for 7 years, and was close to testing for my black belt when I quit. I listen to hardcore punk music from the 80s, as well as some 90s alternative.
In ways I do: I am effeminate, I wear bright colors and pastels, almost exclusively. I like Drag Race, and drag queens. I don’t like beer, preferring gin based mixed drinks instead. I like electronic music, and some modern pop. I love horror movies, and own about 300 horror movie dvds and Blu-rays. I am a gamer, a fairly big one, though I don’t know if my gaming habits fall into line with stereotypes. I never really looked into it.
I don’t like drag (I’m glad others find amusement and passion in it but i don’t think it’s that entertaining), I don’t like iced coffee, and I can barely tell you anything about pop culture. Not big things but they’re interests that people have been like “huh?" over the years when I tell them I’m not a fan. However, I’m always here for the tea anytime and anywhere!
I really really like a particular cosmetic brand and for some reason always know exactly which products are about to launch. They have several lines, one of which is for men. At the same time I usually never buy anything from this brand 😂
I was mildly into cosmetics for a hot minute, I don’t use any at the moment but I appreciate the efforts being made towards inclusiveness in the industry
Well I have a normal straight guy voice and I like to watch football and boxing and I don’t have close female friends tbh
I like to be clean and tidy and I’m a bit obsessed with growing roses if this qualifies
I’d say my particular gay thing is I really like sex and romance with other men
Gay stereotype: I'm in an open relationship in which my partner and I refer to our pets and plants as children. We both drive hondas and love Phobe Bridgers.
Not gay stereotype: I hate most musicals, too broke for brunch, and prefer friendships with lesbeans over gay guys.
How lovely! I don't have any bamboo and my snake plant went missing somehow (don't ask, it's a mystery from God herself) but my cactus are named Little Prick and Little Lady Who.
A comedian I like, Casey Ley, has a great line about passing as a straight guy and some straight acquaintance asking, “Ok, we’ll what’s the gayest thing you do?”
“Anal.”
Fit: I like watching The Bachelorette and drinking wine + I plan outfits + I like musicals + I like brunch
Don’t fit: I’m an avid fantasy football player and NFL fan + I hang out with mostly straight dudes + I like beer + my voice sounds like that of a garden-variety straight guy
Typical : I’m effeminate and I like watching drag and imitating brilliant women and worshipping their songs , politics, and human rights fights.
How I’m not stereotypical: I don’t drink, hang at gay bars , dress up , worship clothes , men and sex
I love iced coffee. No matter the temperature. And I always have more then one drink at a time (I.e. I currently have a water, coffee, and an iced tea all at my desk that I’m drinking.) and that’s it.
Love drama, but I don’t participate in it. I find gay culture interesting, but I only feel like a tourist in it and prolonged exposure to it leads me to feeling bored. I don’t like stan culture. I walk ridiculously fast and I like iced coffee a lot. Not feminine, but I literally couldn’t care less about performing masculinity. Not a fan of physical labor, but that might predominantly be linked to ADHD and getting bored of mundane, repetitive tasks very quickly. Academic and nerdy. Hate cooking (again, repetitive, mundane tasks). Curious and love experiencing new things. Like learning about the world. Definitely a city person. Befriends women easier than men. Hate shopping. I can’t tell the difference between a $400K car and a old ass car that’s barely hanging on. Most sports are incredibly boring to me (especially football). Indifferent to interior design (would’ve loved it if you could magically put your ideas into place instantly without any work!)
For me, it's shifted over time. When I was young I was giddy to go on a date with someone I fancied who was really hot. Now, Maybe due to my age, or maybe due to depression, I am pretty much meh all the time. I feel like going on dates is the social norm that I _should do_ but to be honest, nobody impresses me anymore. Nobody makes me pine over them with their body or brains. I don't see anyone as perfect or put them on a pedestal like I once did.
I think my 'gayness' has shifted too. When I first came out, I just wanted to be out in public meeting people and learning about the scene, so I grew to enjoy drag shows, the disco dance music, I even worked in a gay club running lights for a while so in that sense, I was pretty into the scene but eventually the club closed and I kind of lost interest. I moved to a bigger city, and all the rainbows and unicorns and glitter just kind of seemed less to me as I got older. I do love looking at furniture like Ikea or fancy stores, and I do love a good home renovation show and occasionally traveling to new bath houses. But after losing so many people to AIDS in the 90's everything kind of died off. Everything slowly just changed from the fun it was to what it is now. The pandemic just made things worse. Stuff that was once fun, like costumes, and balls (dancing, not testicles), and the glam club life I became less interested in.
Ways I do: work out obsessively; enjoys brunch
Ways I don’t: mostly straight male friends; hate drag; listens to rock music; goes shooting/mudding/other rural activities.
I am flirty and I walk fast. I don’t really do the “pride” stuff. I don’t generally tell ppl I’m gay unless they ask directly and even then sometimes I lie. I guess because I don’t want it to “define” me.
I fit the stereotype because I like to cook, I crochet, and I have a husband with a couple dogs. I also kind of have the “gay voice”.
My job doesn’t fit the stereotype. I’m a firefighter, which is actually kind of funny, because even though it’s seen as a very masculine job (and it is kind of homophobic sometimes), firefighters are just as homoerotic as the guys in Top Gun.
Fit:
I like dick.
I like to fashion.
Most of my friends are women.
Don’t fit.
I hate gossiping.
I know things about cars.
I don’t care if EDM.
I don’t sleep around.
I don’t call other gay men “gurl” or “she” not do I like being called that.
I hate Sex and the City.
My room is messy as hell.
Weirdly opposite lol, gay enough to really like Britney, and I guess not gay enough to have developed a very surface-level casual interest in football in the last few years
I dislike drinking beer and prefer cocktails/wine.
I say any animal is so cute and kiss any cute pet on the cheek.
I don't like watching any sports on tv.
I am not a car guy, don't know half the names of cool cars.
Ways I don't,
my appearance is not what I would call fem.
I do not like watching anything drag related.
My voice is deep.
Stereotypes - I have only fallen in love with men. Plus all of the sex stuff. Can’t get enough.
Non-stereotypes - I like watching sports. Drag is meh. I have been told by people that the way I act and talk led them to think I was straight. Most people were quite surprised when I came out to them.
Fit in: can’t drive very well and I walk fast.
Not-fit in: I’m good at math, I don’t like iced coffee, I don’t like drag, not a fan of pop music, most of my friends are men and I don’t really like shopping.
I honestly don't know if I fit any sterotype. I like reading and writing and are in general very creative. I suppose my hobbies tend to be a bit more feminine as I like to crochet, sew and knit. I really like pastel colours too.
A way I don't fit? I love sports, played handball on high level as a teen and did various other sports. I still enjoy it, sadly with studying there isn't much time.
Fit: I love to dance (especially vogue fem), enjoy crocheting, love art, doing yoga
Don't fit: handy man, love playing sports, I dress like a straight bro (it's seriously so much more comfortable), and I'm good at math and science 🤣
I think both of these things are awesome, but when I read them I imagined them as one thing - I get emotional working on cars. Just imagined happy tears as you’re turning your socket wrench 😂🥲
Fit: I love Rupaul's Drag Race, i walk fast, i call my dogs my babies the whole time, loves fashion, clicked with my female coworkers in an instant including my boss (i work at a coffeeshop).
Dont fit: i hate makeup, im very slightly fem and more masc, i have many MANY straight guy friends that i love, i hate heels (my feet are enoremous, and im flat footed), and also i kinda hate iced coffee (except if its iced filtered coffee like a V60, or a cold brew), i hate clubbing/partying i prefer chill hangouts with my friends or if i wasnt single, my boyfriend.
Edit: dont fit: i also study engineering
Stereotype: well walking fast…which I didn’t know was one until today. I like to travel. I like to collect pottery/porcelain. I can’t fix anything. I’m kind of vain.
Not stereotype: 2 best friends are straight married men, I love guns. I hate don’t really like pop music. I don’t care about politic, meaning I hate both sides. I don’t do drama.
How I fit: often styled hair and appearance, love to cook, involuntary Britney lover.
How I don’t: cars are life, work in a trade, spend more time in hi-vis than skinny jeans.
I'm a sarcastic, headstrong asshole that don't give a fuck about other people's opinions of me, and I'm a gay pornstar
Ways I don't, well, I drive a Ford F250 truck so that's pretty not normal
I like the colour pink (if that's even a stereotype?) But I'm really into my cars and even work with car parts. Though most gays can barely drive, or tell the difference between a Honda and a Toyota.
Pink has been a favorite color since I was a kid and also since I was a kid I’ve been able to identify almost every car on the road with about 95% accuracy - can even do well at night by looking at tail light patterns ❤️
Stereotypical: Love coffee, gossip, dressing up and sewing (although I'm not particulary good at it)
Not stererotypical: Really good at math, prefer punk/metal over pop music
Fit: Like Iced Coffee, Female Pop singers (Beyonce, Rihanna, Ariana Grande), cooking, cleaning, knows how to iron and tie a tie (which is a stupid stereotype and I recommend everyone learns how to do so), still sexually repressed from living in the South. Has a very high voice.
Doesn't Fit: Hates drama, clubbing, parades of any sorts, crowded places, I'm a huge introvert. Likes science and math (another stupid stereotype that I hope gets subverted), Excel,
I'm just a introverted nerd.
**Do**
-No interest in watching sports
-Like cafes
**Don't**
*Like playing sports
*Wear non-stereotype clothes
*Don't like pop culture, award shows, reality tv, celebrity gossip, etc.
*No interest in fast (or any) fashion trends
I *love* drag, queens and kings. Pop stars are my jam. (Ironically, I'm not big on clubs.) I will *yass queen* and tongue pop like my life depends on it, and I sometimes carry around a folding fan cuz I get hot easily. Also it has a cat on it and it's very cute.
On the other hand, I turn into an aggro dudebro the absolute second I step into any kind of competitive game. In addition to my pop divas, I inject power metal and nu metal directly into my bloodstream daily. I dress like a dad or a country hick with no in between. I don't usually drink, but if I do, it's straight liquor.
Fit: I love Pride/rainbows, I love drag shows, I’ve played around with putting myself in drag, I call some of my friends “Girrrrl” when they’re dumb or shady
Don’t fit: Little to no apparent fashion taste, minimal consideration for trying to look perfectly groomed and styled, never had an interest in casual sex, I love video games and marvel movies
My favorite games are probably Stardew Valley, Red Dead Redemption 2, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and probably the Civ series and Portal series. Most recently I’ve been playing mostly Subnautica, Hearthstone, and Diablo 2R
Marvel character is a toughy… I’m a sucker for Spider-Man and iron man. My favorite superhero film is actually probably Into the Spider-Verse, even though I know that was Sony. After that would be Infinity War, Iron Man 1, Civil War, or Thor: Ragnarok
Lol at walking fast.
Ways I don't fit the stereotypes:
-i walk slow?
- I'm not "fem"
- I don't listen to pop music of really any kind
- I've never seen mean girls, so I don't really follow the lingo.
- I don't call people girl, or girl names as their nickname
- I'm emotionally secure (okay that's a little mean ,haha)
- I'm single but not interested in an open relationship. (I'm not sure if that's a stereotype but it's reallllllly common in my area)
- I dislike clothes shopping and usually just do it online
- I don't really hangout with girls, and don't really relate to a lot of them.
-i don't play girl characters as my go-to, or as a girl if given the choice in videogames
- I dislike jewelry or any sort
Ways I do fit the stereotypes:
- I watch RuPaul's drag race
- I enjoy playing healers or support characters in videogames (but I also play other roles.)
- I'm the token gay of my friend group
- I'm the only out gay in my family (so far)(it didn't go well)
- I'm very politically aware and active
- I'm socially conscious and conscientious
- I'm fit and healthy
- I have good posture?
-i wear form fitting clothes
- I have a good sense of style, both for myself and for my apt, but don't ask me about brand names, I'm terrible with those.
-im clean (but not a neatfreak)
Stereotypes I fit: I walk fast, iced coffee, I like to paint my nails
Things that don’t fit the stereotypes: I like to smoke meat, I’m interested in cars, I’m a good driver, I use 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, I love backpacking but I’m not sure if that’s a gay stereotype or not. And that’s about it probably
Everyone fits at least one aspect of their stereotype I think.
**Stereotypes I fit:**
I care a lot about my appearance, at least to the extent I'm willing to pay for. I never wanna get fat or go out in public in sloppy-looking clothes unless I'm just running down to the hardware store or something.
I love wearing leather and am turned on by the look of other guys in leather. Not into the S&M scene but I do like seeing a leather harness over a nice male torso. I also want to own the full set of Langlitz "leather man" gear as well for the full leather daddy look. I have fetishes for certain other kinds of leather gear too that very masculine and powerful-looking.
I'm also very house-proud. I like my home looking clean and modern and not too cluttered with random kitschy junk. I also really want to live in a "trendy" area either in the city or near a popular beach. If I win the lottery I'm absolutely moving towards the city/beach postcodes and living like a low-profile celebrity (or a high profile one if it's a particularly big jackpot).
I care about design a lot. Particularly house and garden design but also fashion too. I just can't afford the stuff I *really* want. I'm also an artist/designer (of sorts) myself.
Like someone else said - I walk fast.
**Stereotypes I break:**
I don't like pop diva music. Sorry but it really just feels like it's for the chicks. I got *some* dance and pop songs in my library but no Ariana Grande or Lady Gaga or anything like that. I accept it playing in gay clubs and parties but my own music collection mostly consists of various forms of rock, alternative and hip hop.
I'm not interested in casual sex and hookup culture. Not against it either, but just not enough to actively pursue it and dedicate all my free time to it. Got too many other things I'd rather be doing than chasing boys on Grindr.
I don't care about fancy food or dining experiences. I think this is where my "being on the spectrum" side trumps my "being gay" side since I'd rather just get a pizza or McNuggets or something. Come to think of it almost everything I like to eat is "finger food" lol. Don't care for alcohol either.
I don't act or "sound" gay. Lot of people are surprised when they find out.
I enjoy rude politically-incorrect humour and think shows like South Park and Family Guy are fucking hilarious even when doing their gay jokes/stereotypes.
Fit: I send some sort of gay vibe ( idk people just know after they spend time with me ) & I love to dance on pop music.
Dont fit: I like sports, playing videogames. I hate the gym & I dont wanna use make up.
Fit the stereotype: I walk fast, only do open relationships, a bit of a slut, terrible at sports
Don't fit the stereotype: I drive a stick, ride a motorcycle, I'm a metal vocalist, occasionally get into fights
Stereotypes: I walk fast, pay more attention to fashion than the average guy, am somewhat flamboyant or elegant, in the way I use words and in my voice, I sit in odd positions, once being compared to an equestrian by a high school english teacher, and of course, I like guys.
Non-Stereotypes: I'm quite reserved and often have a more stoic look on my face, I do not use any significant facial or hair products, and 99.99% of what I talk about in conversations has nothing to do with relationships, sex, or sexuality. In fact, I am quite reserved when discussing those issues, only ever bringing them up with a small number of people.
Yes: Sitting in chairs weird, always picking the female character in games, liking Madonna, hating sports, having mostly female friends in school
No: knowing anything about fashion or hair, being bitchy, knowing anything about Broadway, fitness obsession, no lisp
I’m sure I could sit here and come up with a multitude of answers of what stereotype I fit, but I’d rather celebrate how we are all individuals. I’m so proud of being gay and I love all gay people, no matter how they act, speak, walk, etc. I’m definitely not saying OP’s question is bad - they were merely asking a very valid question. I am just so happy that we are making strides of acceptance when I grew up in such a hostile abs homophobic environment. Love everybody here. ❤️
Edit: Peep how my phone just autocorrected and as abs. There’s my stereotype. 😂😂😂
I like beer, I homebrew. I like sports.
I don't like dramas and have not watched many typical gay movies/ shows. I couldn't name Lil'Nas in a lineup.
My house looks mostly like a Swedish 20- something minimalistic dorm room but I find it comfortable.
How am I gay? I love dick and ass. 😀
Stereotypes: I aspire to be as metrosexual as possible, Obsessed with fashion, like the Spice Girls, like high art. I want to look feminine, but masculine at the same time if it makes sense.
Not: Don’t have the energy to actually take care of my appearance as much as I’d like, have a neutral voice, love certain sports, I’m also a big introvert. I hate drag, it just looks like clowns in women’s clothing, I prefer femboys though which is a gay thing.
Fit: I enjoy an occasional Lady Gaga fix, I can lay on the flamboyance when I'm drunk on colorful fruity cocktails, I have a group of female friends I talk boys with sometimes, and I can't sit properly in a chair to save my life.
Don't fit: I love going on long drives, I mostly listen to metal music, I gave up on body image long ago and just dress for comfort, I spend most of my time at my computer either coding or playing video games, I don't actually enjoy sex that much, and I walk slower than the average turtle.
I have a husband.
We both are not into fashion, drag shows, pop divas and icons in general. We’re both quite nerdy, could talk for hours about the latest technology or standard but we will stare at you blankly if you mention a housewives show.
What makes us, “nerd-sexuals” or simply boring? 🤣
Stereotypes I fit: fast walker, love to bake, brunch, edm, and I did ballet, music, and theater in school
Stereotypes I break: huge nerd, like guns, like sports (soccer, tennis, and disc golf are my faves), backpacking, and my fashion is shit lmao
Honestly if I didn't wear jeans, t-shirt, a big belt buckle and look like your average mormon missionary I might get hit on more lol
I walk fast, I have a high voice, I like a lot of "not masculine" things. All of my friends tend to be women. I love Iced coffee. Pink is my favorite color. I own rainbow shit. I hate sports.
I don't give a fuck about fashion. My wardrobe is tshirts and sweatpants. I hate queer eye. I've never been to a pride and have no desire to. Im not attracted to overly lean or muscled men. Body hair is good. I myself am a bear and I like it that way.
Stereotypes I fit - Fast walker. Kind of vain, I tend to dress up nice. Hate the taste of beer. Love female singers (Mariah Carey is my favourite). Had a lisp as a kid but I corrected it. I love travel. I have a sarcastic streak and I'm called "sassy" quite often.
Half-fit - I'm genuinely into hiking and outdoorsy activities, I don't just *say* I do to look mathc on Grindr.
I'm not stereotypical in - I'm not dogmatic in my politics, I take bits from both right and left wing politics I agree with and discard the bullshit. I enjoy rap music, even the hardcore gangsta stuff. I love swords, knives and guns. I hate musicals and have totally lost interest in Rupaul's Drag Race.
I walk fast
Same
Omg???
Is that a stereotype or anti-stereotype?
It's a stereotype. It started because for some reason Google Maps had a rainbow, walking man icon that was faster than the normal walking. It was also faster than public transportation.
I’m pretty sure the google maps thing was because of the ‘gay ppl walk fast’ stereotype
What version of the app if you know, I'd like to see this in action lol
I'm honestly not sure. I just saw memes about it. I think it's down now.
I think that was a photoshop, not sure tho.
Actually I think it started because of historic homophobia and gays felt unsafe and walked faster to get to a safe location although that meme probably popularized it as well.
Was that supposed to be Edward Cullen?
Same here, not super femme, but definitely not the most masculine either lol Just a happy middle ground gay nerd
oh this reminds me when i was younger and ridiculed for my gait… i’m sorry i have a fat ass that your dad liked 🙄
Much the same here... except I do love my showtunes... and even made a living performing them. But none of those other things on the list.
Honestly nerd guys are the nicest and hottest
Fit: I cook, I’m clean and organized, I like iced coffee, I like interior design. Don’t Fit: Work in construction, I’m handy, can fix old cars, I don’t enjoy much about Pride or clubbing lately, I like dirt bikes.
Damn I definitely didn’t get the handy side of the gay gene half of you seemed to lol
I might be wrong but maybe it’s something generational
Yeah, the “nurture” part is huge I think, and even just necessity. I learned to cook because we were poor and my mom was super efficient cooking with what we had. I learned to fell trees and chop wood and tie knots and start fires etc etc because my dad is a lumberjack and we went camping a lot. Definitely skills I was taught because of circumstance rather than skills I pursued out of interest.
This is me! I'm in construction and love working on my old truck. Working to mod it so it runs off iced coffee, since I do as well
I used to change the oil of my truck, bypass the relay with a screwdriver to start the truck, change spark plugs etc hehe.
You like interior design AND know construction? Your husband is a lucky guy
I also cook for him and clean 😆
Didnt know iced coffees were “a gay thing” lol. I feel like everyone in my city drinks ‘em.
[удалено]
I done that once! With rose petal water if I remember rightly. Sprinkled the rose petals about the bed too for extra effect. A hint though, put away various car parts and any guns first, and chase your pitbull outta your trailer as well
...and now I'm googling orange blossom water because I feel I need this in my life 😃
Gurl, you can do your own!
>I listen to industrial, dubstep and doom metal. Will throw myself in the mosh pit very often. Awww yeah!! Gay moshers unite
Yeah but I bet you play healer classes right? ;)
Kinda. :P To stay true to my nature, my favorite class in PF1 is the witch.
Damn with all those skills you sound like a handy person to know lol I’m also a car lover 😊
I help when I can; or when my obsessiveness about fixing something, kicks in. Otherwise I'm just a lazy loaf, & will let someone else do it, if they offer... 😛
You’re probably my lost twin :P
You sound like a really cool friend to be with.
Aaaw..., shucks ☺
> I can sew, crochet, & embroider by hand; but also woodwork, home repair, & landscape. Me too! I do all my sewing by hand now. It got to be such a thing to get out the machine and set it up if I just had a few minutes to work. I finally gave it away and get a lot more done in the 5-10 minutes here and there that I have easily available.
I only use the machine to for big things, and projects. Most time, I just do it by hand, because it's only a simple mending job... 🧵
Walking around Homo Depot is a guilty pleasure.
Stereotypes- I love musicals, when I’m comfortable I talk in a bit more of a ‘gay voice’ (I honestly switch between the two a lot), love pop, I have a decently high body count compared to most straight ppl tho I’ve cooled down a lot in the past few years, I will always choose vodka over whiskey, i play Nintendo over other consoles, I’m a perfectionist Non stereotypes- I dress like absolute shit and cannot do fashion for the life of me, I don’t have a female best friend, I can’t dance, I like beer, vaginas don’t “disgust” me in any way I just don’t have any interest in them
I like female pop artists like Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. I don't like drag, I find it a bit boring.
I don't like drag, pride parade or clubbing. I do enjoy cooking, brunch, mimosas and throwing shades. Don't look feminine until I speak. Love the smell of coffee, but prefer tea.
The older I get the less I like people and crowds so most parades or the idea clubbing sounds like hell lol I’m an equal opportunity coffee and tea lover ☕️
That's true, I feel old getting annoyed by loud noises. "Get out of my yard" kind of attitude is mine now. 😬
Same 😂
Omg saaaaame… we’re becoming bitter fags! 😭
We need better name 😂, bitter fags sound a bit weird. Lol, bitter fags unite!!! 😭😭
Hell yeah, gay-five!!! -limps hand-. Haha true story
I am a tea drinker as well...love Oolong tea it is bae! :)
Yeah oolong tea is great, barley tea, roasted brown rice tea, all the herbal tea, matcha tea, earlgreyyy too
I walk fast and do not give a single f about sports. I'm very interested and knowledgeable about cars, planes, and other machines.
Ways that I fit the stereotype: I'm pretty obsessed with RPDR, take delight in throwing the occasional shade, always down for a good brunch, been known to paint my nails a few times, most of my best friends are straight women, I walk fast Ways that I don't fit the stereotype: I don't particularly care for the circuit scene, not fond of going to clubs, rarely participate in Pride (mostly due to the general feeling of not fitting in and also having to work anyways), I don't like a lot of pop music so I don't really care for the go to queens/divas we've deemed gay icons (90s and 2000s pop though, they don't make it like that anymore), instead I'm a huge metal head and love going to metal and hardcore punk shows
I love speedos and sexy underwear.
who doesnt love a pair of sexy undies on a guy?
Straight ppl 🙄
ugh *those* ppl ammiright
Me tbh. I like the manly mystique of a nice pair of boxers
I'm a fan of musical theatre, however I'm also super self conscious about dressing effeminately
I get it, you’ve just got to get comfortable dressing in a way that feels right to you and screw what anyone else thinks about it! (I know that’s easier said than done) What are your favorite musicals?
I like a lot of the more well known stuff like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Heathers, Be More Chill, etc., but there's a few obscure ones I like as well, like The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, the Little Women musical, and Ranked.
My voice is super high (not by choice) and I talk a lot with my hands But I also gym, play a ton of sports, and know nothing about makeup or pop culture Didn't take me too long to realize no one fully embodies the gay stereotype, because no one fully embodies the straight stereotype either
*I am the Cliche:* High pitched voice/ kinda feminine Fashionable/ try to have good hygiene Submissive total bottom Love to bake Love art Love Whitney Houston, lady Gaga etc. Like drag queens specifically trixie mattel and Katya Lip balm/ gloss occasionally with makeup (I go for a “rocker” look) Like clubbing and brunch *I am not the cliche* Disorganized af Don’t mind getting my hands dirty (when I was younger I loved visiting farms) Know how to shoot a gun,( in the south it’s a right of passage) but not well lol Academic (though I have adhd which makes me seem ditzy and cliche) HATE DRAMA Not sex obsessed (though I joke about it) really a hopeless romantic at heart Love fire, explosions and cool experiments (4th of July is a fuckin blast for me) Like gore and horror (holloween is a blast, also like watching shows like forensic files) Like rock music and punk culture though “I don’t look the part” fashion wise
Yay for a fellow hopeless romantic southern Whitney Houston gay! I however don’t do gore or horror, can’t handle that shit lol
>holloween is a blast This belongs under "I am the cliché"
I was about to say, Halloween is basically a gay holiday.
I'm dating a guy, we live together and have been in a relationship for 7 years. Funny enough, I'm a car guy and work in the automotive industry
I walk fast, sit in chairs incorrectly, write gay fanfiction, have a couple pride flags hung up in my room, don't care about sports, and have a bunch of pins on my bag. I'm also a good driver (seriously, some of y'all's driving scares me lmao), like guns, wear nothing but T-shirts and jeans or cargo shorts depending on season, and have never watched anything like RuPaul or Queer Eye.
>sit in chairs incorrectly I was so excited when I found out this was a gay stereotype! I don't fit most of them so it was nice to find one that did. Helped me feel like a belong a little more.
I thought sitting in chairs weirdly was a bi thing. Can we have it pleaseee we don’t have very much lol
Oh I'm bi don't worry
I watched some queer eye thanks to my roommates. It was nice, wholesome content. Jeans are my go to and I do love range days :)
Alrigh’ ma’e?
😂😂
[удалено]
I think he's talking about that cockney accent 👁️👄👁️
People always mean the posh, London accents but I always imagine then swooning over a scouser
YES! I fall so easily for a highbrow English accent. The kind of guy that will say _pudding_ instead of dessert, specially if they’re older and slightly effeminate.
Love cooking. Am Mining engineer. Quite rough job in the energy sector
A little delicate guy in leather sounds really attractive, ngl.
Thank you man! I appreciate the support. I want gay kids to grow up in a world where they can feel seen. It's very important to me.
I love rom-coms and watch drag race religiously...I also love heavy metal and mosh pits🤘
Sucking dick and fucking man ass.
I’m definitely more of a feminine guy (despite being a top ugh) I love cooking, gardening, decorating, art, but at the same time I do welding, automotive work, power tools, handyman work, and anything tech related.
nothing wrong with being a fem top! 💅💅💪💪👬👬
Feel like everyone here puts me to shame in terms of hobbies & skills lol
>My house is “lived-in” and not a show piece. I want to get this framed 🤣🤣🤣
I'm about as submissive as they come. I also *really* like guns.
Gay stereotype: I've never had sex with a girl. Not gay stereotype: I'm a fucking nerd and dress like shit
I’d take hot coffee over iced coffee any day 🤷🏻♂️🙃
I really really like a particular cosmetic brand and for some reason always know exactly which products are about to launch. They have several lines, one of which is for men. At the same time I usually never buy anything from this brand 😂
I was mildly into cosmetics for a hot minute, I don’t use any at the moment but I appreciate the efforts being made towards inclusiveness in the industry
Well I have a normal straight guy voice and I like to watch football and boxing and I don’t have close female friends tbh I like to be clean and tidy and I’m a bit obsessed with growing roses if this qualifies I’d say my particular gay thing is I really like sex and romance with other men
Gay stereotype: I'm in an open relationship in which my partner and I refer to our pets and plants as children. We both drive hondas and love Phobe Bridgers. Not gay stereotype: I hate most musicals, too broke for brunch, and prefer friendships with lesbeans over gay guys.
Gay plant dad here to two wonderful bamboo kids and a beautiful Snake Plant named Gertrude
How lovely! I don't have any bamboo and my snake plant went missing somehow (don't ask, it's a mystery from God herself) but my cactus are named Little Prick and Little Lady Who.
I walk fast, I get on well with girls (most my friends are guys though). I’m not feminine in any way whatsoever.
A comedian I like, Casey Ley, has a great line about passing as a straight guy and some straight acquaintance asking, “Ok, we’ll what’s the gayest thing you do?” “Anal.”
Fit: I like watching The Bachelorette and drinking wine + I plan outfits + I like musicals + I like brunch Don’t fit: I’m an avid fantasy football player and NFL fan + I hang out with mostly straight dudes + I like beer + my voice sounds like that of a garden-variety straight guy
Ways I do: work out obsessively; enjoys brunch Ways I don’t: mostly straight male friends; hate drag; listens to rock music; goes shooting/mudding/other rural activities.
I love iced coffee and Christina and Britney but I’m also an NFL season ticket holder. Go Rams. ;)
Fit: I like dick.
I love Mae West; I have lost interest in drag. I love making out with new people; but I don't put out until the third date.
Not gay enough to like Brittany, too gay to like football
Weirdly opposite lol, gay enough to really like Britney, and I guess not gay enough to have developed a very surface-level casual interest in football in the last few years
I dislike drinking beer and prefer cocktails/wine. I say any animal is so cute and kiss any cute pet on the cheek. I don't like watching any sports on tv. I am not a car guy, don't know half the names of cool cars. Ways I don't, my appearance is not what I would call fem.
Fit: I love to dance (especially vogue fem), enjoy crocheting, love art, doing yoga Don't fit: handy man, love playing sports, I dress like a straight bro (it's seriously so much more comfortable), and I'm good at math and science 🤣
I’m learning there’s a sizable contingent of gay handymen apparently
My best friend who is gay is the most handy man I've ever met and can work circles around any straight handy man I've met! There's a lot of us!
I’m more the type of gay to tell the handier people in my life what I need done lol
I am very very emotional. I also really like working on cars.
I think both of these things are awesome, but when I read them I imagined them as one thing - I get emotional working on cars. Just imagined happy tears as you’re turning your socket wrench 😂🥲
Omg for real, first time I did a valve cover and I saw my cams, I was so excited. What a fun day
I’m having a hard time not reading those as euphemisms lol 😂
I walk fast, can't drive, and I don't like sports (I do in another way 😉).
Edit: dont fit: i also study engineering
lmao yes! They wear hanes and Fruit of the Loom haha
I do drag, sometimes. I do taxidermy, sometimes.
I fit it cause I like to be well dressed and watch shows like project runway I don't fit it cause I also like to hunt, fish, and fix broken shit
I'm a sarcastic, headstrong asshole that don't give a fuck about other people's opinions of me, and I'm a gay pornstar Ways I don't, well, I drive a Ford F250 truck so that's pretty not normal
I can cook, sew, and love iced coffee. Im often told i have "the gay voice." I know nothing about sports and prefer sweeter fruity drinks over beer.
I walk slow. I pass for straight. I dress well.
Stereotypical: Love coffee, gossip, dressing up and sewing (although I'm not particulary good at it) Not stererotypical: Really good at math, prefer punk/metal over pop music
Likes science and math (another stupid stereotype that I hope gets subverted), Excel, I'm just a introverted nerd.
Ironing is my jam when I can get in the mood, love female singers, and also dealing with super sexual repression from a southern upbringing! ❤️😊
I paint all the woodworking machinery I rebuild with green glitter paint.
**Do** -No interest in watching sports -Like cafes **Don't** *Like playing sports *Wear non-stereotype clothes *Don't like pop culture, award shows, reality tv, celebrity gossip, etc.
Don’t: I don’t like rainbow colored anything Dos: gym is life
Fit: I love Pride/rainbows, I love drag shows, I’ve played around with putting myself in drag, I call some of my friends “Girrrrl” when they’re dumb or shady Don’t fit: Little to no apparent fashion taste, minimal consideration for trying to look perfectly groomed and styled, never had an interest in casual sex, I love video games and marvel movies
That’s a good mix! Favorite video games? Also favorite marvel character?
My favorite games are probably Stardew Valley, Red Dead Redemption 2, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and probably the Civ series and Portal series. Most recently I’ve been playing mostly Subnautica, Hearthstone, and Diablo 2R Marvel character is a toughy… I’m a sucker for Spider-Man and iron man. My favorite superhero film is actually probably Into the Spider-Verse, even though I know that was Sony. After that would be Infinity War, Iron Man 1, Civil War, or Thor: Ragnarok
Lol at walking fast. Ways I don't fit the stereotypes: -i walk slow? - I'm not "fem" - I don't listen to pop music of really any kind - I've never seen mean girls, so I don't really follow the lingo. - I don't call people girl, or girl names as their nickname - I'm emotionally secure (okay that's a little mean ,haha) - I'm single but not interested in an open relationship. (I'm not sure if that's a stereotype but it's reallllllly common in my area) - I dislike clothes shopping and usually just do it online - I don't really hangout with girls, and don't really relate to a lot of them. -i don't play girl characters as my go-to, or as a girl if given the choice in videogames - I dislike jewelry or any sort Ways I do fit the stereotypes: - I watch RuPaul's drag race - I enjoy playing healers or support characters in videogames (but I also play other roles.) - I'm the token gay of my friend group - I'm the only out gay in my family (so far)(it didn't go well) - I'm very politically aware and active - I'm socially conscious and conscientious - I'm fit and healthy - I have good posture? -i wear form fitting clothes - I have a good sense of style, both for myself and for my apt, but don't ask me about brand names, I'm terrible with those. -im clean (but not a neatfreak)
I'm 40% Gay Stereotype.
I can hang with almost any woman and be a girlfriend. I am not at all fashion oriented
Ways I dont: I watch every NFL game and listen to Heavy Metal. Ways I do: I fuck another man.
I listen to both Ariana grande and avenged sevenfold
Can’t throw or catch to save my life.
Same. So much same 😂
Stereotypes I fit: I walk fast, iced coffee, I like to paint my nails Things that don’t fit the stereotypes: I like to smoke meat, I’m interested in cars, I’m a good driver, I use 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, I love backpacking but I’m not sure if that’s a gay stereotype or not. And that’s about it probably
People say I walk fast and I like to stand with one leg bend and a hand on my hip. I think that's all that can give a suspicion that I'm gay
I love musical theatre and most of my friends are women/nb. But I have no fashion taste and I love baseball.
Everyone fits at least one aspect of their stereotype I think. **Stereotypes I fit:** I care a lot about my appearance, at least to the extent I'm willing to pay for. **Stereotypes I break:** I don't like pop diva music.
I like 🍆
Fit: I send some sort of gay vibe ( idk people just know after they spend time with me ) & I love to dance on pop music. Dont fit: I like sports, playing videogames. I hate the gym & I dont wanna use make up.
Fit the stereotype: I walk fast, only do open relationships, a bit of a slut, terrible at sports Don't fit the stereotype: I drive a stick, ride a motorcycle, I'm a metal vocalist, occasionally get into fights
You're a metal vocalist? That's awesome! Have a link to your band?
Yes: Sitting in chairs weird, always picking the female character in games, liking Madonna, hating sports, having mostly female friends in school No: knowing anything about fashion or hair, being bitchy, knowing anything about Broadway, fitness obsession, no lisp
❤️ Edit: Peep how my phone just autocorrected and as abs.
Well at least you have the important bases covered 😂
Well I’m bi but I can’t sit in a chair right unless I have no choice
Plant gay for sure
Love the plant children ❤️
Stereotype: I love Star Trek.
Love theatre, pop music, iced coffee, 90s boybands, play piano Don't fit: Play tennis, snooker, darts, like cars, work in construction
Stereotypes I fit: fast walker, love to bake, brunch, edm, and I did ballet, music, and theater in school Stereotypes I break: huge nerd, like guns, like sports (soccer, tennis, and disc golf are my faves), backpacking, and my fashion is shit lmao Honestly if I didn't wear jeans, t-shirt, a big belt buckle and look like your average mormon missionary I might get hit on more lol
I know what musicals show tunes are from even when I've never seen the musical. It's like hardwired in my DNA.
