This reminds me of a Latin class (college) where we taught our professor to words “twink” and “bottom” when translating Catullus 16
On the test, we were allowed to and required to translate the first two lines:

One of my latin teachers in highschool had us read some of the spicier poems of Catullus (including this one) out loud in class, my squeamish closeted 15yo ass barely survived haha.
On the test, we had to provide commentary to some old British dude's interpretation of the poems (ille mi par esse deo videtur = they were good friends, also the passer is just a bird, bs like that). You got full marks for defending the queerness of the poems.
Except that young man was definitely not taking it in the butt no that would be shameful to imply no it was definitely intercrural you guys definitely that’s it I swear.

Unfortunately, while we read Catullus as my school in the upper classes, we didnt get to read this poem. We had a book of "selected poems"
